Kelvin Davis is playing the race card with regard to the allegations against Matthew Tukaki:

Davis has also raised whether racism is behind the criticism of Tukaki: “He’s being condemned for being highly successful, and some people don’t like that. Some people don’t like the uppity Māori but I can’t fault his work.”

Davis’ response insinuating racism is typical of this government. Among those who are critical of Matthew Tukaki are the leadership of the Māori Council, who are in dispute with Tukaki over a contract worth almost a million dollars which was transferred to the NZ Māori Authority, in circumstances that are currently being investigated. Is Kelvin Davis suggesting that the Māori Council is racist?

But the bottom line is this; dishonesty is dishonesty, whether you’re Māori, Pakeha, Pasifika, Asian or any nationality. There are many questions around Tukaki’s appointment to key government roles, and the lack of scrutiny of his past, but the suggestion of racism is not one of them. This allegation does Kevin Davis no credit whatsoever.

Or that because Tukaki is a mate of the Maori caucus, issues of honesty and integrity are irrelevant? Now where I am I hearing that right now? …….step forward Boris Johnson!
    
    Regarding Kelvin. Tukaki has meant he has had step back in front of the camera, but an interesting question about Kelvin is how he is rated in the scheme of things….
    
    Kelvin is Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, so you’d think he’d be Deputy PM, but no, that is Robertson.
    
    Jax is out of the country, Robertson is off with Covid, so who is Acting PM in the absence of Robertson & Jax, is it Kelvin? Ehhhh, no, it is Minister Fixit, Megan Woods.
    
    So, the question is where does Kelvin fit into the scheme of things?

      A good analogy, but a couple of points:
      
      1. Megan Woods has never fixed anything. At best, and it’s stretching it a little, she has stopped things becoming much worse, but she certainly hasn’t improved any outcomes. Well, other than taking some heat off Cindy temporarily.
      
      2. I see that two of Boris’s senior Ministers (Treasurer and Health Secretary) have resigned, stating they could “no longer continue in good conscience” and “the public rightly expect government to be conducted properly, competently and seriously.” Those are statements any ethical Minister in this government could legitimately make about this cluster-whatsit, but I’m not holding my breath for it to happen. I also just realised I said “ethical” so you know, sound of crickets.

        I agree with you about Woods.
        
        You are correct about Johnson and his cabinet. Since the by election loses he has lost 2 Cabinet Secretaries and his Party Chairman (also someone who sits at the cabinet in the UK), plus a number of junior ministers and other MPs with jobs.
        
        Johnson has had a reputation for lacking integrity and honesty, since school (one of his Masters at Eton said of him, “he never believed that the rules of conduct ever applied to him”. Then before Boris was Mayor of London, he was a MP in David Cameron’s Shadow Cabinet as Shadow Culture Secretary. Cameron sacked Johnson then over an indiscretion.
        
        He is the old cliches about leopards never changing their spots, or the one about turning over a new leaf.
        
        As Ed Vazey (a tory peer) was saying this morning and David Davis (a tory MP from E Yorks) have said Johnson needs to go now. Davis paraphrased Cromell.

  Tony’ the issue over the contract arose after Tukaki was voted off the Maori Council and lost his executive role. The loss of confidence already existed.
  There was also an issue over pay when he was at Oranga Tamariki when he had to repay some $60,000.
  He does not seem to remain in any one position for very long — including being the Sec-Gen’s man on the UN Council or whatever it was and Drake’s guiding force against the ravages of Covid.

Fortunately the Prime Minister has broken with newshub’s demand for more covid restrictions and ruled out any move back to the red setting. We can agree with this especially since the red and orange and green traffic light systems have at their heart the vaccine mandate. You get more freedom if you are “fully vaccinated” and not much freedom at all if you are not. The vaccine mandate has now gone. And a return to the red traffic light system would seem totally out of step with the Prime Minister’s comments to Boris Johnson that New Zealand is open for business and open for tourism.

One wonders what newshub’s game is? Is an alarmist headline trying to get more clicks? Or are they preparing the ground for more lockdowns?

However the Prime Minister then tells us that the best thing we can do right now is mask use and vaccines. And she advertises the booster of the booster for older people. But is this really true? Has the vaccine made any difference particularly since she contracted covid after being boosted. Dr Fauci has had four shots and he got covid. The vaccine doesn’t stop you passing it on. Apparently all they claim now for the vaccine is that your symptoms will become less.

And do the masks actually work? Seeing we have had over a million cases of covid one would say probably not. We know that in England estimates are that 70% of the population has had covid.

So we can’t stop this. Eventually we are all going to get it. But for most people it is a mild illness similar to the flu. That’s certainly been my experience.

I actually think the best thing that New Zealanders can do is not get boosted, don’t wear a mask unless you absolutely have to and for the love of God stop reporting in cases. Stop reporting cases. Then our media will have to shut the heck up. Then we can move on.

Ignore the media, ignore the Prime Minister, don’t get boosted, it’s probably bad for you. Don’t wear masks because they don’t help and they are probably bad for your health. And don’t report anything. If you value your freedom don’t report covid cases. It just encourages them to lock us down.

  Best way to deal with covid is go back to normal. Be exposed to it as much as you can, and don’t wear masks. Regular exposure will build immunity naturally over time. Always has and probably always will with coronavirus. We didn’t exit from the Spanish flu (also coronavirus) pandemic by hiding and using vaccines that have little effect. Yes we did wear masks I have heard, but probably they did have any good ones in those days, and so let’s just assume they had no effect at all. So we got out of that pandemic based on natural immunity built up over time. Same will happen (and is happening) now.

    I’m not so sure. At the moment this should be the case for the few unvaccinated among us who are able to train their innate immune systems without the vaccinal antibodies interfering.
    
    But what about the majority vaccinated?
    
    I think we have now trained our immune systems to produce Wuhan based spike antibodies upon exposure to any COVID variant.
    
    In the case of Omicron, it appears that these vaccinal antibodies now enhance infection but reduce severity… meaning we are more!, not less, likely to get infected with a dribbly nose… This has certainly been my anecdotal experience so far in my friend/family group.
    
    But, if we start seeing more repeat COVID/flu/disease in vaccinees then this is a sign that we have damaged our natural immune defense, not just individually, but at a population level, meaning this affects all of us, independent of vaccine status.
    
    If this is indeed the case, then unfortunately vaccinees might need to be more, not less, careful… at least for the time being.
    
    If a C-19 super variant comes along, as Geert Vanden Bossche is predicting (link above) then God help us.
    
    Don’t forget the reason we are now in this position. The MSM, the “experts”, and the current government have directly caused this nightmare.

      Lucky I didn’t let my kids get done, and they have both had it and they are fine. No worries. If there is a super variant, then I guess that people who have had more boosters or whatever are screwed. So much for kindness. It’s the vulnerable (or people that think they are) that went for the boosters.
      
      I am guessing natural selection will be the order of the day, and that’s fine, it is what it is.
      
      No point listening to a hand-waving loon telling us to wear masks on the way out.
      
      If what you are saying is correct, we are screwed either way and so should just get back to normal. We attempted to vaccinate ourselves against a mild cold this time and screwed it up fantastically.

  Get boosted if you want, but if you do, make sure you understand it will not prevent you catching covid and any potential initial “protection” wanes very rapidly.
  Pay attention to the increasing amount of data emerging showing alarming numbers of adverse reactions including deaths, and the latest statistics showing large rises in all cause mortality around the world that are definitely not due to covid directly.
  Initial investigation is showing much of it is due to the effects of the ridiculous responses to covid by governments. These have put extreme pressure on all parts of society, particularly the health system. Lack of access to early diagnosis and treatment is causing people to die. Mandating health workers out of their jobs just one of the moronic things this government has done.
  Then there are the deaths directly caused by the vaccine. These are real, the numbers are disputed, but they are far higher than authorities will admit.
  It will be a long time before someone does a full study on the impacts of these various measures.
  
  Then there is the latest information which krazykiwi posted 2 days ago showing the apparent impact on fertility. I won’t repeat it all here. “Correlation is not causation” etc etc, but when startling numbers such as these start screaming out, it’s time to pause and consider what might be going on and asking what has been done differently recently that might be contributing to these worrying numbers? It isn’t rocket science. It’s isn’t “the science” as Ardern and Baker et al keep talking about. It’s SCIENCE. Science just is, it isn’t locked in a bottle, it is the ongoing investigation into matters. It isn’t static.

        Clan’s summary is spot on. All I can add to it is that drugs for early treatment need to be made available over the counter. They are safe and effective – certainly more so than Paxlovid and Remdesivir.

      One reason to seriously doubt a registered Medic opinion currently is the way they have been cowed by MoH threats to their continuing employment.
      I am very adjacent to several unexplained medical phenomena where clear connections are possibly related to recent injection of mRNA, as in within days, and several Drs refusing to even consider a possible linkage. The atmosphere of denial is palpably guilt ridden. Eventually truth will out and although too far removed by time, will be interesting nonetheless, to some.
      In a similar vein a mate recently positive to the rona by way of a RAT test whatever reliability one might give that. Symptoms of breathing difficulty, headache, fever, all within the gambit of admitted symptoms, however serious nerve pain in both legs causing severe sleep deprivation, vehemently denied as anything related to Sars Covid 19, a wall of silence beyond that rejection.
      Not very long ago a Patient suggesting such relevant connectivity to any series of medical mystery could have received a “Hmmm could be something there” now not so, merely immediate outright rejection as even remotely possible?
      Something could be rotten in The State Of Denmark, methinks.

      I’ve finally managed to catch the ‘VID. Given Chippie promised that this tricky little virus would hunt down the filthy unvaxxed, it’s taken longer than I expected.
      
      And what a non event. A light cough a few times a day and if I was searching for symptoms I did wonder if I was getting hay fever a couple days back – but it never went anywhere, hay fever is so much worse! Maybe there is more to come???

      They never were vaccines. They are prophylactics, and not very good ones either. They don’t protect you from disease. They might for a very short period of time, but the risk/benefit in those under 50 is shockingly negative.

Eventually a highly infectious disease will get through, and the only logical purpose of the lockdown delays would be to strengthen the Health system. We now know this was not done, and the extra spending was frittered away on consultants and establishing an apartheid system.

    The number of deaths growing aren’t because of covid. They are due to the reactions by Ardern and co and the impact of the “vaccines”.
    There is increasing excess mortality around the globe that is unrelated to covid directly. It remains to be seen how much is physically from the adverse effects of the jabs themselves, and how much from the negative impact of lockdowns like inability to access medical services, depression, alcohol abuse, family violence etc etc etc.
    
    Keep an eye on excess mortality numbers in NZ over the next year. They will tell a story I believe.

      Agreed. In the UK excess deaths minus deaths “with or from Covid” are strongly positive. Further, the location of death being recorded as “Home” has been in excess for many months. People of unusually young age are dropping dead in their homes at record levels and the authorities are “perplexed”, while the media is “wondering if it’s hot weather, or cosmic rays”. Seriously. As a state managed construct, ‘health’ is fundamentally broken. People like surfing, aunty, ross/mike et al simply can’t believe a system can rot from within. My advice: wake up!

Instrumental variables estimates using a plausible source of exogenous variation in the rate of booster dose rollout indicate 16 excess deaths per 100,000 booster doses, totaling over 400 excess deaths from New Zealand’s booster rollout to date. The value of statistical life of these excess deaths is over $1.6 billion. The age groups most likely to use boosters had 7-10 percentage point rises in excess mortality rates as boosters were rolled out while the age group that is mostly too young for boosters saw no rise in excess mortality.

Please can someone tell me that a 49 year old member of the Mongrel Mob and obviously a very bad abuser of family is about to change his ways before he seriously injures someone, what planet is this Judge living on and who will pay the consequences if he ends up killing someone.

  In Christchurch it looks like its on the cards. The thing is I’m not sure how much its actually going to help.
  
  My kids school is closed again due to staff shortages (they have been running short weeks or no school all term). Burnside High is the biggest school in CHCH and for some reason staff seem to be particularly succeptable to all bugs. School has had compulsory masking all term too.
  
  The hospital is overloaded. What will going to red do for them? People will still be sick.
  
  Perhaps if we allowed people to work when they had a cold (like every other year before Covid) staffing might not be so hard? Rocket science?

Got covid really bad the other day. It was terrible. It was almost as bad as the time I drunk two bottles of Peroni. Was just so tried by 11 pm. Couldn’t stop yawning. Must have been covid. Right? Went to sleep and by 7 am the next day I had recovered. I wish I had the vaccine then would not have gone through this.

  1) WTF is Te Poari Hauora ō Waitaha? Oh its the CDHBs new name. I see they have already updated the web site. Stop fucking renaming everything to meaningless Maori names and fix the problems with them.

        We don’t need to get rid of all signs of the Maori language, we just need to learn from every other nation on Earth with more than one language how to handle that.
        
        A sign that says Milk Miraka tells you in two languages where the milk is to be found. Likewise, a document which says the same thing, completely in English, and completely in Maori, is exactly how dual languages are handled overseas.
        
        A sentence otherwise completely in English with a couple of Maori nouns thrown is not intelligible in either language.

        However, I don’t have a problem with two languages adjacent to each other as long as they are given the same prominence. That said, why not have every NZ citizen’s language displayed? That way, we’ll have a store full of signs and no goods eh?
        I’m dreading the day when Road Signs and On-Road signage is given in more than the English language. The Welsh language will be longer than the road eh?

How do they know how many covid cases there are when the vast majority are by private in home RAT tests?
The MOH definition says RAT or PCR test and click on their link for the definition. The definition says a “Confirmed case” is “A case that has laboratory definitive evidence.” and only includes PCR.

So is the number only people in hospital and health care workers. Or is it “modelled data”? Even if it includes RAT data who is recording their RAT tests and where? And why can’t we see the flu data also. How many people with Covid also have Flu. What variant is the flu?

  Does anyone else know someone recorded as a covid death. The only person I know was someone who was in Hospice for terminal cancer and then I was told it was covid that took them. So how is this recorded. Will our Cancer deaths be lower? Or are the Covid deaths recorded separately by WHO and it’s still recorded as a NZ cancer death in our regular stats?

    Friend of a friend died from Covid in a resthome. He was 48. The fact that he had stage 4 Prostate Cancer was irrelevant. Poor guy couldn’t even walk – and then caught Covid.

There’s an article on Politik (paywalled) re Grandad’s Army, lamenting the appalling state of our Armed Forces. It makes the point that NZ spends $2.5 billion a year and Australia with 5 times the population $48.5 billion. ACT has committed to a 2% allocation which would amount to a one billion increase ie about 5 minutes welfare.

    Indonesia not so much – no capacity which warrants high end military equipment – but if you’re implying that Australia needs to spend more because it is closer to China then I think you miss the point. Our relationships and commitments demand a certain level of capability. We do not have it. Australia’s situation is no different (but not the same) and they are working towards it. No-one argues that we should copy Australia but if it is needing to use its capacity then, like it or not, we’ll be involved. NZ must pull its weight. A few hours further from China is irrelevant.

        The SI high country mainly, the other problem with high end fibers or other niche products is that if too many people jump on the band wagon they get commodatised.
        So why don’t we all produce ultra fine Merino wool? Because of climate, soil types, topography and market size.
        We also can’t all produce high end crops for the same reasons, people suggesting everyone moves from animal farming don’t realise their ideas are physically impossible or that cropping regimes are more environmentally harmful than pastoral grazing including greenhouse gas emissions.

        You also need to factor in the fact the meat returns from merinos is a fraction of the returns for faster growing sheep. BUT faster growing meat heavier breeds produce coarser wool so on the one hand wool is a by-product of the meat industry while simultaneously meat is a by-product of the fine wool industry.
        The finest wools are often produced on the meanest country which by definition also has the lowest carrying capacity. Feed a flock of merinos well on grassy pasture and the wool quality turns to custard.

    We do sell wool carpet to the US, mainly North America, but it’s aimed at the high end user, so it does not catch the full scope of the people. Synthetic carpets were marketing their oil products in the states using glossy pics of little lams running around, we took them to court and actually won which was not expected first up.
    We have contracts for the organic wool farmer which is growing which provides farmers with close to $3 a kilo of wool above the auction price, that wool goes into the high end carpet.

      Dutch farmers are protesting vigorously about Government clampdowns related to environmental policies. Protests have ranged from attacks on police cars to dumping a load of manure on the doorstep of the country’s “nitrogen policy minister”.
      
      Farmers are angry at the prospect of having to shrink livestock numbers to meet pollution targets announced in June. Nitrogen-based emissions will have to decrease sharply.
      
      Police have used dogs to break up protests, and have been making arrests.
      
      On a panel discussion on Al Jazeera last night it was stated that the Dutch are the world’s second biggest food exporters. Their agriculture is a heavy user of imported stock feed.

Headline. “I accept your challenge ma’am” as James Elkington who has 16 children handed a “get out of jail card” sounds like a lovely headline of a person who hadn’t learned about their whakapapa getting a second chance. No picture of the tattooed mongrel face like there were in previous police reports.
Elkington’s crime is he punched his pregnant wife so hard she went unconscious.
But a quick google shows in 2020 he was also in the news for strangling his wife and a three day assault on her and meth dealing and was sentenced to 21 mths imprisonment. “Elkington’s lawyer, Kelly Hennessy, argued that Elkington should be released on time served, due to his efforts to complete relevant courses during his seven months imprisonment including courses on emotional management, conflict resolution and tikanga programmes.”

So he’d had all the programmes except was still trying to get into drug rehab. Yet his lack of cultural support is still the reason he’s given a “get out of jail” for nearly killing his wife.

In 2019 he was on the run from police for meth dealing and dangerous driving. “Judge David Ruth acknowledged Elkington had completed some courses in prison to try “better” his position. ” So again he had more courses on the state and was remorseful.

The sentences are becoming significantly less punitive as the crimes get worse. And the media now not showing photos of the criminals identity.

Is the question what are the long term consequences of isolation, lockdown, multiple vaccinations and benefits of mask wearing.
Do we need the medical profession to produce some in depth research on the results of withdrawal from normal human interaction with regards to the immune system.

I have totally lost confidence that ‘Let’s get Wellington moving’ will ever produce anything but permanent stagnation.
No extra traffic lanes to the airport is unbelievable given that the city’s population is going to increase by 80,000 over the next 40 years.
And a slow tram to Island Bay at some monumental cost is utter stupidity in what is after all a small city. Island Bay is not exactly a destination, so this massively expensive pipe dream’s main purpose is to carry Island Bay commuters to work, something that could be achieved by putting a few more buses on using existing infrastructure.
And none of this is going to start for six years.

The refugee racket …

Nearly a thousand police from the UK, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, and Germany in dawn raids yesterday arrest gang members suspected of smuggling 10,000 people to Britain across the English Channel on small boats.

The Telegraph says this is a quarter of the 40,000 arrivals since the start of last year.

One of the ringleaders is in prison in France after a rival was shot 10 times in Osnabruck last November but survived despite serious wounds to his abdomen.

“This is tough organised crime. They are not squeamish when it comes to territorial disputes and in fighting for power,” an investigator told the German newspaper Bild.

  They’ve spent over $100k on legal fees defending themselves against a vexatious litigant … who ironically stood for election as a Dunedin City councillor on a platform of reducing Council spending.
  
  Vandervis has already lost in the High Court and the Court of Appeal and is seeking leave to appeal to the Supreme Court. Each time he abuses the legal process the Council has to spend money on defending the actions.

    I forgot to mention that the legal actions aren’t actually over the parking ticket. The Council decided that Vandervis had breached their Code of Conduct after he had a meltdown and harangued a Council staff member over a parking ticket.
    
    He has been seeking a judicial review of the Code of Conduct breach through the court system and keeps losing. And every time he loses he starts another doomed appeal.
    
    This case will be taught to future law students as an example of how the legal process can be abused by bad actors.

It is my understanding that when the US Supreme Court quashed Roe v Wade it is because “abortion” is not in the original Constitution.
Nor apparently are the 27 Amendments which have been added since – that is why they are Amendments, right. – not in the Constitution
So what of them now?

  The supreme court consider all the amendments, not just the original constitution. They don’t get to make the amendments. There are two available methods
  
  1. A two-thirds (supermajority) vote of members present—if a quorum exists—in both the Senate and the House of Representatives of the United States Congress.
  
  2. A majority vote of state delegations at a national convention called by Congress at the request of the legislatures of at least two-thirds (at present 34) of the states. (This method has never been used.)

  Your understanding is wrong.
  It comes down to two amendments:
  
  The 14th which states that people can not be denied their “rights” and the 9th which states that other rights, claimed “by the people” not explicitly in the Constitution can still be protected by the Constitution (“The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people” – basically, just because a right isn’t in the Constitution doesn’t explicitly mean it doesn’t exist).
  
  The 9th is widely regarded as a dumpster fire of an amendment because you could literally argue anything under it and therefore it is mostly not referenced by the Supreme Court (and why Clarence Thomas has stated that they need to actually work out what it means with regards to many undeclared “rights” claimed under the 14th amendment).
  
  The question re Roe vs Wade was actually about the right to privacy (because that was the one right that had actually been explicitly acknowledged under the 9th amendment) but the Supreme Court added Abortion without actually arguing the merits under the 9th amendment.
  
  Pretty much anything can be claimed as a “right” so the question is what the definition of “retained by the people” is? The “Conservative” position is basically that as this is Constitutional Law, the benchmark must be high and therefore the claimed “right” much satisfy a broad, historical acceptance of that right across the country (i.e. a Constitutional level of support for the “right”, not just a standard majority opinion).
  
  The “Liberals” want a much more liberal interpretation that the Court has the right to decide what rights the people get and seem to think a simply majority is enough.
  
  Given the clear intention of the Constitution was to give as much power to the States and people as possible, and nothing in the 9th amendment saying otherwise, the higher benchmark employed by the Conservative justices is clearly more consistent with the rest of the Constitution over what “rights” would be protected.
  
  Yes, it is actually a travesty, but it’s a far more Constitutionally sound interpretation than “the court gets to decide what powers it has”.
  
  Legislators across the US need to get off their arses and actually amend the Constitution to codify those fundamental rights that they claim are included under the 9th amendment. Abortion should be protected but unfortunately, should be doesn’t mean is.

    The Establishment Clause:
    “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”
    
    So, the Liberal judges (and media) have focused exclusively on the first part and are simply ignoring the second.

  The US Constitution was written to permit amendments, which then become part of it. There is nothing to stop the Americans from putting through further amendments, concerning abortion or anything else, if they wish to do so. Of course, it is a difficult process, as you would expect the amending of a Constitution to be.

      You’re probably right, but to be on the safe side I rang the Electoral Commission to enquire about this. The woman that answered didn’t know that Tauranga ratepayers couldn’t vote for the councillors that represent them, and her only recourse was to try and connect me with the receptionist at the Electoral Commission – I kid you not.
      
      I’ve since emailed the EC to enquire why they spent so much telling us we could vote for our local councillors when we can’t, and also to ask if this exercise would be repeated in 2 years when Mahuta is currently thinking about allowing us peasants to get some representation for all our taxation (July 2024).
      
      I’ll report back if I hear anything other than the sound of crickets.

Went up to clear the mailbox earlier and our neighbor was walking past with her Toy Poodle. Heading home from the shops.

Anyway, she was telling me when she came out of the Dairy, there was some silly old coot in a Mobility Scooter, (rug over his legs and flying a safety-orange Ensign), stopped right next to where she’d left Zoe tied up.
The cheeky old prick asked her….. if the dog was registered?
She asked him if he was an Undercover Policeman.
LOL!!
He sped off in a huff.

Funny thing is of course….nobody we know has EVER registered their dogs. I’ve had three in the last 25 years and it’s the last thing I’d do.

  The mask isn’t to protect you. It’s intended to protect the medical staff that are conducting your MRI scan and the other patients who will use the machine after they scan you.

    He learned his lesson about 20 years ago (b4 we met) when he discovered his CFO had been ripping him off. As he tells it…broke the guys jaw and threw him out the front door.
    Ended up HE got charged with assault and it cost him over 50k in legal fees defending it. Discharged without conviction.
    But then the Employment Court ruled he had to pay the thieving pr*ck 10k for not following the ‘correct procedures’ 🙁
    
    Contractors only these days. WIN-WIN all round.

  That could work if a business could sack someone who doesn’t perform to the level they signed up to in their employment agreement.
  
  Unfortunately, in New Zealand, when you hire someone it is like getting married to them. It is very, very difficult to get rid of a non-performing employee.
  
  Luckily we cureently have a number of really good employees but it has not always been that way.

In an excellent series of iconic LIFE magazine images, there was an image of JFK speaking to a rural community in West Virginia in 1960, during his successful Presidential campaign. He was 43.

To illustrate what a different time and place that was, can you imagine Joe Biden standing precariously on one of those kitchen stool-plus-steps sold by RonTel or similar, holding forth intelligently, without notes, to an audience comprising both blacks and whites?

Especially the white kid in the white t-shirt and buzz-cut, holding a toy gun to his mouth. A few heads would explode (no, not literally) these days at that. Sorry for the link to HuffPo, not wanting to drive traffic I assure you. But it was the only place I could find the photo unpaywalled – it’s the second one down.

Have you noticed that Stuff, whenever they reference National figures with a chequered past, use the word ‘disgraced’ and usually every damn time – but they don’t seem to use it for Labour figures.

Why is that?

(Note: for his sins, which I won’t describe here, Te Pou was booted both from his job and from the NZ Labour Party.)

  To a certain extent we should stop blaming the government funding for this since the same thing is seen in the USA when the MSM reporting on some crook will put the name (R) right up front of the article, while not mentioning party affiliation for many paragraphs if it’s (D).
  
  Same reason they’ve carried the Left’s water lately on hammering Luxon over the US abortion decision – I even glimpsed a entire NZ Herald front page on Monday – a week after the shit first hit the fan. Wankers.
  
  It’s ideological/partisan for the Left MSM. The money’s just to keep them alive – something that National/ACT should have front of mind when they become the government.

  Gilmore, when an MP, got pissed at a private dinner and was obnoxious.
  
  Someone at the next table, went to the media.
  
  Gilmore lost his political career over this. Perhaps Key knew of, or had a hint of, brewing or incipient problems with MPs’ behaviour in the Far South.
  
  Regardless, the penalty was in excess of what Gilmore’s “offence” warranted. And yes, the liberal-Leftist media welcomed the chance to whack Gilmore.
