What a gutless bunch of wimps we have in the New Zealand Media with the Bosses and Journalists prepared to go after Boris Johnson with all the gusto they can muster while they adore and promote the corrupt practice and other policy that is detrimental to the New Zealand economy. They allow our Prime Minister to call out the UN with words like they are morally corrupt while her Government is untruthful, corrupt and decietful to the population of New Zealand.

  On the matter of Boris. It reminds me of the late 1980s and David Lange and Margaret Pope. As was said at the time one screw and the whole Cabinet fell apart.
  Carrie turned Boris’s head. He let his dick rule his head. She planted Woke and Green Bullshit.She interfered in matters of State that as a little girl she knew nothing about.
  If Boris had kept her in the kitchen and pregnant to keep her busy this wouldnt have happened.
  
  Alas on a geopolitical note it is damaging to the West. China and Russia will be laughing. The Western Leaders ( if you can them that) are a bunch of weak spineless creatures full of their own Bullshit. China is strengthening its position both economically and militarily.

An interesting discussion on Kiwi blog on abortion law yesterday revealed one key fact. That essentially we have abortion on demand up until birth. The only requirement is that the abortion doctor consults another abortion doctor to see whether the abortion is clinically necessary. The language is very loose. According to family first –”The new law means that late term abortions will be available to women if the abortion provider “reasonably believes the abortion is clinically appropriate in all the circumstances,” having regard to the woman’s physical and mental health and wellbeing. This is a very broad subjective test.”

And there appears to be no penalties for abuse of the system. That is performing late term abortions that are not clinically necessary. Indeed abortion is out of the crimes act and so the police will not be involved.

Our media let all of this go through with barely any comment even though the law was enacted at the beginning of the global pandemic. Everyone was distracted but the media just let this sail through. Now they are ganging up on Christopher Luxon demanding that he commit to never change the abortion law. Our abortion law is as liberal, or should I say radical, as any abortion law in the world.

I would like to see Parliament revisit this issue next time we have a change of government. Here is the thing. Is it really true that an unborn child can be aborted in the third trimester? Is it really true that a baby can be aborted essentially the day before it would have been born?

How many people are comfortable with this scenario? Although polls show that there is broad support for some sort of abortion in New Zealand, that support erodes to around 25% support for abortions in the third trimester. How is it that a civilised person can be comfortable with the idea that an unborn child who is ready to be born can be aborted? That if that child was born and had health problems then medical doctors would move heaven and earth to save that child. But if the child is not wanted then it can be aborted?

I’m gonna say something condemnatory right now. If you support abortion in the third trimester can you really claim that you are a good person? There manifestly is a baby there. It’s not religion that tells me this, just look at a scan. There is a baby there. Maybe you are ignorant. But if you are in possession of the facts and you support abortion in the third trimester then I would like to suggest that you are not a good person. The abortion law should be changed. Hopefully a new parliament will arise, Princess Jacinda can return to rightful obscurity and we can have a leader that will lead us economically to prosperity and will exhibit a sound moral heart. And first order of business – change the abortion law. The law we have is completely unreasonable and unethical.

    Matt: I have to say I was deeply shocked when I read s.11 of the Contraception and Abortion Act. Frankly I thought those here who said “it’s now legal to have an abortion the day before birth” must be exaggerating, perhaps grossly so. Put shortly, neither in s.11 nor anywhere else in the Act is any kind of limitation on abortion after 20 weeks.
    
    I’ll say again what I said yesterday: As s.11 is written, provided a woman can find a doctor who will to perform such an abortion, it would be perfectly legal. Whether such a doctor could be found is another question; sadly I think in this day and age that might not be as difficult as one would think and hope.

      How can you have read s.11 of the Act without realising that two doctors are required to make the decision, the doctors must hold a reasonable belief that the procedure is clinically appropriate in the circumstances, the doctors must comply with all of the legal and ethical standards of their profession, and consideration must explicitly be given to the gestational age of the fetus?
      
      The law contains safeguards. Nobody undertakes these procedures out of convenience.

        The legislation requires consultation between two “qualified” health practitioners. This has a legal definition which is specified in the preamble for the Act
        
        >”A qualified health practitioner, in relation to the provision of abortion services, means a health practitioner who is acting in accordance with the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003.”
        
        One of the key provisions of the HPCAA is s. 8 which forbids all health practitioners from working outside of their scope of practice.
        
        The only people who can legally offer surgical abortions in New Zealand are registered specialists who must undergo regular peer review and professional development to retain their registrations. There are no loopholes in the legislation.

        This means that a health practitioner, like a doctor or nurse, may be able to provide some abortion services but not others. For example, they may be able to prescribe abortion medication, but not perform a surgical abortion.

        There are reasons a woman might want to terminate a pregnancy at or after 20 weeks. Like hormones, change of mind, mental health, climate change, pressure from a partner or others. When half the population is below average intelligence, reasoning is not necessarily top of the list.

    Genuine question – if an unborn child (or foetus if that’s how you want to describe it) is killed between 16 and 40 weeks gestation due to, let’s say a domestic violence or drunk driver incident, what’s the charge?
    I’m sure most people would be calling for murder or manslaughter charges, but considering the abortion laws, is this even possible?

  I abhor abortion, but I think there needs to be a great deal of education before it would be possible to even think about making the abortion laws more restrictive.
  
  The main problem to overcome is that it simply doesn’t occur to many people that there might be anything morally wrong with terminating the life of a baby in the womb.

    The law exists because medical staff need to be able to intervene in those sad and desperate cases where the fetus is non-viable, serious birth defects have been discovered, or the mother will die if the pregnancy progresses.

        In terms of rarity, there are statistics published. In 2020, 310 out of 13246 abortions were performed after 16 weeks (2.3%).
        
        As for convenience, you just need to observe that late terms abortions are much less convenient than early term abortions. Before 10 weeks (when the majority of abortions are performed), you can choose to take a pill that you administer yourself at home. In the late term, it requires a full-on surgery, becoming more risky the later it is.

      But that is not of interest to the forced birth crowd who seemingly prefer to focus on the suspended animation foetus and not the living, breathing and sentient woman.
      
      They would prefer that a baby with serious organ defects be carried to term, be birthed by a traumatised mother, and then suffocate to death outside the womb for a few minutes. That would be the outcome of their preferred legal framework.

If they acknowledge that the choice comes at conception, then they can’t make such ridiculous arguments based on choice to terminate. The choice has already been made.       Sorry gump, but “the mother will die” argument has long sailed. In case you haven’t heard, cesarean sections have been around since forever and are incredibly common, and safe. The “mother will die” argument is propounded by the rabid abortionists and should be ignored whenever it is used.
      And if you are going to get into the argument of “non-viable fetus” or “birth defects”, then you have to also get into the argument regarding do you consider the “fetus” to be a baby human being. Then you flow into the old horny dog of historical killers dehumanising their victims to justify their killing. And by the way, by describing the “life” in the womb as a fetus, you are taking the dehumanising side of the argument.

      BS. I personally know of late abortions where the women in question avoided dealing with the situation unril after 16 weeks. They knew, but hadn’t made a decision.
      
      I’m personally pro choice – but not Lea I g it that late. Make abortions a free for all up to 10, 12 weeks, whatever arbitrary number, but beyond that only due to birth defects or whatever.

  I believe we elect our representatives to make these decisions on abortion and agree or disagree that’s the situation so I think you can probably put me in the bad person category as I am ambivalent about it all.
  However I will say I think this third trimester argument is a smokescreen along with the religion does not tell me this statement because obviously your arguments around abortion are religious and all abortions are your concern and not just the hot button third trimester you keep referring too.
  Your opinion is yours and you are entitled to it but let’s be honest, if you had your way pretty much all abortions would be banned in NZ from tomorrow.

        Your question is perfectly valid. I was part of the protest in Rotorua a few years ago expressing condemnation of the killing of Moko and the bullshit plea deal which saw his killers get convicted of manslaughter instead of the murder that it clearly was.
        
        Despite the appalling winter weather, It was apparently the biggest protest in Rotorua’s history; a reported 600 people marching from the lake to the courthouse where the killers were to be sentenced.
        
        I have no idea how many of that 600 were “religious types”, but the protest was mainly made up of Maori women of all ages. What was notably lacking was much support from local kaumatua – ONE guy – who was apparently pretty much a nobody in the Maori world – spoke to the crowd before the march set off.
        
        The rest did what they usually do when some Maori baby or infant is bashed to death – fuck all.

  The law exists to permit medical intervention in those sad and desperate cases where abortion becomes necessary to prevent death or suffering.
  
  Your argument is founded upon the fantasy that all pregnancies result in viable fetuses, and that serious medical conditions that will kill pregnant women don’t exist.
  
  Countries with laws that criminalise healthcare have literally killed women due to confusion, delays, and reluctance of medical to risk prosecution. This is the outcome that our laws avoid.

    Other than those who object to pretty much all abortions for religious reasons, we are talking about abortions in the third trimester when any birth defect has long ago manifested itself.
    
    Yes, there will be a tiny number of cases where, to save the mother’s life, a late abortion is sadly necessary, but those numbers will literally be tiny: under the old legislation, 98% of abortions were supposedly done on mental health grounds.

      I am not misrepresenting the case at all. It’s not possible to detect all types of serious birth defects before a pregnancy is carried to term.
      
      The lives of pregnant women are routinely placed at risk in countries where outdated and overly rigid laws prevent doctors from offering life saving treatment. Here is one recent high profile example of a woman who was dying in Malta and had to be airlifted to another country where medical treatment was lawful.

      At the time of the Moko murder I was an occasional contributor on an established social media (family related) rural group .
      It was suggested that the group should make some sort of stand about what had happened to this child.
      However, debate about it was quickly shut down by the group’s moderators and a warning issued that as the people involved were “gang related” we had better all keep quiet and say nothing or there would be repercussions.
      I see Moko’s “mother” recently featured in the msm as a reformed character.
      No.
      And no to the cowards who wouldn’t speak up at the time for fear of gang intimidation and “visits”.

      If the mother’s life is at risk in the third trimester, the quickest and safest thing to do would be to deliver the baby by C-section.
      
      This would allow both mother and baby to live.
      
      There is absolutely no reason to kill the baby in these circumstances.

      The law exists because the sad and desperate cases that it needs to solve also exist.
      
      The only ‘obfuscation’ here is the cloaked strategy that opponents of abortion are using to try and restrict access to medically necessary healthcare procedures. Opponents focus on late term procedures because they hope that by first establishing a legal “bright line” they can then focus on slowly moving that line over time in order to progressively restrict access to abortion.

      I think that is basically medical. I know it is possible for a baby to die before birth, but at such a late stage that the mother actually has to go through with the delivery. So it seems possible the baby could be dying in the womb, in which case abortion might be the best option. It would be a ghastly situation to find yourself in.

  Inv we live in a nice area in the center of Hastings near Cornwall Park and regularly have people sleeping in cars in our street. Sometimes 3 or 4 vehicles a night.
  
  About 2 or 3 years ago I reported one to the Council after it had been there without moving for 2 or 3 days.

The families of dementia patients at a modern, expensive care facility in Christchurch received an email yesterday from admin staff asking for their help in toileting, dressing, feeding and entertaining their loved ones because the facility simply can’t find the staff to fill the vacancies they have. This is a disgrace and is a sad reflection of the inept policies of our current government both in the areas of health and immigration.

  Privately owned nursing homes/care facilities have a history of over-working and underpaying staff. They use unqualified caregivers, and pay the (compulsory) RNs at minimum hourly rate – and then complain when said RNs leave for better pay in public hospitals.
  Their business model is to make a profit, and not to risk that profit by paying generous wages, or to empty more staff than they are obliged to.
  Looking after people is expensive, but no-one wants to do it, or pay others to do so.

    By any objective standard, the Dutch protest is extremely newsworthy. It is a huge and significant event. But, this is yet another example that the “news” networks are not at all interested in news, only in promulgating contrived narratives that serve an agenda. The agenda of the narrative networks is to present the agenda of the elite decision-makers as having broad public approval. Something like the Dutch protests, the Canadian protests, and our own Parliament protests run counter to this objective, so they are not covered, or if they are, the coverage is so distorted as to be worthless.       Privates and NCO’s make up literally the “rank and file” of a body of soldiers on parade or presumably in formation on the battle fields of old. Usually a platoon at the most basic level. ( Not getting into sections here).
      
      The officers were /are not part of that particular formation, which are the ranks and files of the platoon ( by length and file by width as you look at it from the front) . The officers are on their own line in front of the platoon that makes up the R and F . And in battle either lead from the front or y from behind from where they could see and direct .
      
      On that basis I’d opine that the origin of “rank” is very tied up with the private . And that private is in turn a rank , just the most junior .

  If the answer is only ever to give more money to people who don’t work, the whole developing shithole that NZ is becoming will eventually collapse.
  A welfare state still requires productive people, so it cant be made too attractive to sit at home and collect free money.
  The way to earn more money is to seek education or work experience or work history, and seek a better class of job.
  Start now, Miss Chickpea-fatigue.
  
  If is not enough to simply pay the lowest skilled people more, or give beneficiaries more, but to provide opportunities, incentives and encouragement for people to advance.
  A very close look at families on intergenerational welfare is a start, and the long term unemployed.
  Even if they need to pick up litter or something, they need to get off their chuffs; unless they are stuck in an iron lung or have no arms or legs.
  And damn it all, uplift at risk children, and move then away into state schools and state care if need be.
  
  Never going to happen though.
  NZ is just going to suck harder, go softer and yet become harder to endure.
  If the government really must give money away, they need to start making some money of their bloody own!
  Better to make people pay a % into a charity of their choice than pay tax to the government, as you KNOW they are going to blow for too much of it for no great result even on core areas, or even worse allocate it to something utterly useless (transgender art therapy, Covid lapel pins, or Maori consultancy anyone?).

What’s with employment law and the idea of an “internship”?

Liebour don’t want the 90 day trial period, they hate the youth wage and are pushing up the minimum wage. We apparently have a labor shortage with companies struggling to find staff. So why does my daughter have a problem getting work, and are these offers even legal.

My daughter’s a recent graduate with a degree in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, finishing top of her class. She’s struggling to find work, and the two offers she has on the table are for UNPAID INTERNSHIPS of up to 3 months! One where they have stated up front that the role won’t lead to a permanent position.

I understand the concept of an internship as part of your degree, but to expect someone with a relevant degree to work for 3 months for free is unacceptable to me. Their justification is that they have to “train her up” into the role, but isn’t that just part of the cost of hiring new staff? Don’t you work that into the fact that you need to look after staff and keep staff turnover down so you don’t spend too much money retraining new staff?

Is it even legal outside of a study program to hire someone as an intern with absolutely no pay? Surely the least they should offer is minimum wage?

To create a more complete picture, she’s a non-smoker, drinks minimally drives her own car, is well dressed and articulate, doesn’t do drugs, etc. and over 25. She has supported herself since completing year 13, gone through other art related diploma courses and had regular work until she went to university full time in 2019, so not a slouch by any means.

  My guess is an ‘internship’ is, in effect a proxy for a 90 day trial. Employment law has employers tied up in knots when investing in new staff. Even the suggestion of taking your daughter on as a permanent hire probably has legal implications. She just has to suck it up; work for 3 months, prove herself, gain real world experience and build up a CV.

  LM, congratulations to your daughter and no doubt her family and friends for their support and encouragement. She’s laid an excellent foundation for a rich and fulfilling life, and as her parents you must be proud.
  
  I get that you think she “should be” paid for her work, but there’s absolutely an exchange of value here, if you look at it in a slightly different way.
  
  Three months work in a serious organisation (you don’t mention if it’s private, corporate, NFP or government) and a good reference, plus an introduction to whatever networks she can cultivate in 3 months are worth a lot. I suggest she treats it as say, a practical on-site assignment to complete that part of her education.
  
  Use the time to demonstrate a great work ethic and attitude, ask if anyone needs help, go to any event you can, network like crazy and don’t be afraid to ask someone for a job. Hearing the words “I’d really like to come and work for you” is like music to people’s ears. Good luck.

    Lodden, thanks, and we are proud of her. She’s aware of the benefits of being able to say “I worked at…” however there’s a lot of talk within the Graphic Design community of companies hiring interns then letting them go after 3 months, then hiring another intern and having them do all the worst jobs because you can and don’t have to pay them.
    While I agree with the concept I’m a firm believer that a worker is worth his/her salt, and if you are taking someone on, outside of an agreed study program, you should pay them, at least in NZ at minimum wage. At minimum wage she’d be getting roughly $10,500 (before tax) for the 3 months. That’s a hell of a lot to sacrifice just to say ” I worked at Joe blog Graphics and I know Joe!”
    To my mind if you want to see the persons ability have them do a day or two as an intern, I’m taking qualified person here, and see if they fit. After that pay them, three months is excessive, and the emotional impact of working for 3 months and not being paid is massive. It devalues people and it devalues their work. Even if the company is not “benefiting from their work”.
    One position is a small in house post with a manufacturer, the other is a decent size Graphic Design company with several branches around the country.

      I still think you’re looking at it through the wrong end of the telescope. Forget what you’re “giving up” for a very short period of time, think about what you’re potentially gaining by being given that opportunity to prove yourself.
      
      Having said that, I hope she steers clear of any organisation that’s set up a merry-go-round of interns to do the shit jobs and with no teaching or guidance, and no chance of a job.

    The world needs to produce food, regardless of climate change. It is best if that food is produced as efficiently and as sustainably as possible. Farmers already have incentives to use fertiliser efficiently. Because of (a) costs. and (b) regional councils monitor its use re water quality.
    
    Now the government will tax fertiliser. That will increase the price of food in New Zealand, increasing child poverdy. And it will make exports less competitive.

I’ve been critical many times about the direction of the Police under Cuddles Coster’s political left-leaning “leadership” and with good reason. Yet I fully acknowledge the unquestionable bravery, intelligence and dedication of thousands of rank and file officers continuing to do extraordinary things.

Officers in Feilding last year managed to bring to justice (some of it self-inflicted) a determined and desperate offender who, among other things that day had:

– fired multiple shots at police, on two occasions
– hijacked a woman’s car at gunpoint and then
– intentionally crashed it into a patrol car

They managed all this without injury to the public or Police, and without firearms being used against the offender.

There will be those who say “see, you can police successfully without guns” but when someone is shooting at you, driving at you to ram your car, and sometimes both driving and shooting together, I’d be a lot happier if the good guys could shoot back. That they didn’t in this case is almost certainly down to the fact this guy crashed heavily and took himself out of action. He wasn’t asking questions, and he wasn’t taking prisoners.

The devices are online to state authorities while the car is operational, and use GPS positioning to assess speed. The plan includes implementing centrally managed speed detection, and controls that are relayed back to the car CANBus management system as mandatory directives.

Under democratic socialism the state still controls and owns everything but the political system is “liberal and democratic.” (Although rarely if ever the case because if the state controls everything then it probably is authoritarian in practice but that is the definition. For an example look at how the state controlled the vaccine mandates and everyone reliant on the state for work is forced to take it or lose your job and access to society – far from politically liberal)

Whereas capitalism is defined by oxford dictionary as an economic and political system in which a country’s trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state.

But is Capitalism controlled by private owners. Or is Capitalism controlled by consumers and workers. Arguably it is capitalism that is democratic. The consumer votes with their dollar everytime they make a purchase and have significantly more choices and less govt control and surveillance. The worker has more choices about where he works and can negotiate his pay.

Even the word capitalism is outdated because in the knowledge economy businesses are not as reliant on capital or land.

If the Government put half the effort they put into advertising and schmoozing the media, to actually getting things done, they would have trashed 20 points in the polls in 18 months.

    Why 3D? 20mm nominal bore pipe (normal steel pipe, not tube)
    OK, 20mm NB pipe say 600mm long. 25mm NB pipe 150mm long. Use a lathe and turn out the inside of the 25mm pipe until it fits over the 20mm pipe.
    Now the 25mm pipe heeds to be threaded so you can put on a 25mm end cap. In the end of the end cap, drill a 3mm hole, sharpen the base of a 3mm drill. It goes in that hole – zap with mig welder.
    Now, the 20mm NB fits a 12G shell perfectly.
    In it goes, slide the 25mm NB into it, and fuckin BANG!

      One of mine was deleted a few months ago. Don’t know who exactly but I can guess. Had the usual smart arse comment. “Deleted! None of that conspiracy crap here!” – or words to that effect.
      
      I went away, triple checked the content of the post, triple checked that it was verifiable from a number of sources and emailed DPF with the evidence of what I had posted being truthful. He agreed. Said sometimes the mods can get a bit over zealous. As I say, I don’t know for sure who that mod was.
      All I ask is that if they deem a post “false” information then the least they can do is give an explanation why.

At 5.50pm RNZ had a piece on the return of Moriori remains from overseas.

Part of the piece talked about how Moriori had been ‘wiped out’ and that their numbers got down to as low as 200 people.

Funny, they made no mention at all of who did the ‘wiping out’.

A simple oversight I’m sure.//

They are reporting “cases” every day. This is after the medical definition of a “case” was changed in an Orwellian move to boost the numbers to fit the narrative being pushed. Hegelian dialect.

“Cases” are based on completely flawed testing systems. PCR tests in NZ are run at a cycle threshold of 45 making the results worse than useless. Look up PCR ct for yourself.
The RAT tests are even less reliable.

Many people have stopped testing, they realise this is bullshit. This also adds to the fact that the number of “cases” is bollocks.
