      I think you’ll find ACT has been very vocal on the co-governance issue, Luxon a lot lot less so. In fact, as we all know, he stuttered big time when faced with the co-governance issue (in contrast, Seymour was threatened with poison once the bro-eaucracy worked out he was getting traction). And that was it, nothing of any substance from Luxon since then! I suspect he’s still trying to erase the links to the rubbish he spouted when he was at Air NZ before he issues his game-changing (for National) edict.

  very true – talking to my friend in Auckland this morning – she told me how in talking to the Pacific Islanders in their factory and office – they hate Jacinda – – were staunch supporters of Labour their whole life – but that has turned – on the basis that life is harder than ever, the lockdowns, the kids not going to school, the crime in their community, MIQ.
  
  All Labour have left is attack Luxon and maintain the fear and control. The have no successes to defend. Once Labour lose Auckland and especially the PI community, they have lost.

  The TVNZ news report a couple of nights back was careful not to mention much about the Labour case. They did say because of the National Party fraud issue Labour looked at their systems. This made it sound like Labour’s issue were uncovered by internal audit which is obviously trying to make them sound good but is it true.

    The problem is, Nats donations were declared whether there was known deception outside JLR or not (one charge is for deceiving the Nat party) but the money for the paintings or the other Labour donation were never declared, no names required under 15 k , but Nats weee still declared as donations

  That is consistent with our local art house trust which is a council funded building which offers well known artists residencies in exchange the artists give artworks.
  
  The public accounts say this “The Trust holds for sale limited edition art works created by the residents as part of the residency agreement. These have been provided to the Trust at no cost, and in accordance with accounting policy are carried at the lower of the net realisable value which is nil. These artworks have an approximate market value of $840,000”
  
  But because they record the value as nil there is no asset list in their accounts of the artworks. It essentially creates an untraceable tradeable cash asset.

1). No talk that our Finance Minister is taking a 2-week holiday over in Birmingham to watch the comm. games while the economy burns
2). No articles confirming the US is indeed in a recession. In fairness FakeNewshub did mention the US is on the cusp of recession.

When we do go into recession look for the same poor man’s Jedi mind tricks around recession definitions here and watch the feckless swallow it up. Also watch for Grunter’s surrogates like Liam Dann to argue this (a recession) is a good thing and New Zimbabwe’s economy is well placed.

The Road to Zero has to be added to the list of Labour failures. They are trying to spin the increase in fatalities as “on track”.
In Taupo its bean an absolute failure – two fatalities on the SH! section around town. There is an informal speed limit on it. The potholes are so bad that going over 80 is dangerous. And they have the cable divided highway starting on a LH bend. There are so many white lines on the road, drivers in the wet don’t know what to follow so three vehicles so far have gone up over the start of the cables. Looks like they are going to do the same with the Maroa stretch of the road, rather than fix those potholes. But building goldplated cycleways is a lot better use for the road users charge’s money. Yeah right!

        I agree, but I then attempt to work why he took these actions. To do this you need to look at all the actors and actions involved.
        
        It’s why my OPINION is that it is happening due to the actions of outside actors, particularly the US in fomenting and funding the coup in 2014, NATO arming and training tens of thousands of Ukrainians in the last 10 years and the current ongoing supplying of increasingly advanced military equipment to Ukraine.
        It is also (IMO) happening due to the actions of internal actors in Ukraine. The neo Nazis who effectively control Zelensky. This will be truly apparent when he is “disappeared” when things become untenable as I believe they rapidly are.
        
        I may or may not be right about my opinions. We might find out over time.
        Again, it’s my observation that if any outside actor attempted similar actions on the border of the US then we would likely be in a nuclear winter right now. We have historical context for this pov. The Cuban Missile Crisis.
        
        Observing and commenting on a situation in an accurate manner doesn’t make you a “fan” of one person or the other. It’s simply trying to get an understanding of a complex situation so as to better conduct my own life and to help pass on knowledge to my kids.

      The issue any reasonable person should have is that 18 months jail is a denial of due process. It sounds like he should definitely be in jail and the courtcase is open and shut so they should give him a timely trial as is his right. 18 months is not timely.

      I have no information whatsoever about this person or the case against them, but what sounds like detention without trial for a prolonged period seems very strange and very undemocratic. It really is the stuff we heard about in the old Soviet Union, CCP and North Korea etc.

        A very big proportion of prisoners in our jails are on remand. I was reading earlier about the South African woman charged with murdering her kids in Timaru. Her trial may not take place until 2024.
        BTW
        Two Uighur were put on trial in 2016 for a bombing in Bangkok the previous year. As far as I’m aware the trial was adjourned because interpreters couldn’t be found and it’s still adjourned six years later.

  I had a look at one story and just shook my head.
  
  As I have said before, I have no objection to people speaking Maori, or the use of Maori; what I object to is the inappropriate use of Maori. And Stuff’s habit of writing one paragraph in English, then one paragraph in Maori, then the next paragraph in English, and then in Maori … throughout the entire article, is just stupid. It utterly destroys the readability of the article, as you are constantly having to skip over every alternate paragraph.
  
  And the idiocy of this is that it is so easy to fix. If Stuff want to have a Maori translation of an article, simply add the ENTIRE translation before or after the English. Have the Maori version first, then the English. Or the other way around. Simple. It achieves the aim, while retaining the readability of the article.
  
  But Stuff seem to be so concerned with using the Maori language that they have sacrificed what should be one of the most important considerations for ANY news website – the clear communication of important issues. One News is just as bad – I’ll be listening to a story and suddenly some random Maori words are inserted and bang! I’ve completely lost the thread of the story because I quite simply have no idea what they’ve just said. And by the time I’ve live paused, looked the word up, grasped the meaning of that word, then returned to the story, I’ve lost interest. I find myself watching less and less of the TV News because I quite simply cannot understand it.
  
  So that was my occasional check-in to Stuff to see if it’s worth adding back into my browser bookmarks. But, much as I like to get my news from various sources, if one of those sources is becoming increasingly difficult to actually understand, because of how they have written the articles, then what’s the point? I may revisit Stuff again in another few months to see if they’ve improved, but I’m in no rush. There’s plenty of other news sites out there that write articles in a clear manner that I can read and comprehend without difficulty. And I’m perfectly willing to pay for quality – which is why Stuff won’t be seeing any of my hard-earned money any time soon.

  It’s hard to actually understand what it is.
  
  I don’t know why the need to add the virtue signaling words, given that the only people that actually ask whether you have an exemption are hysterical white women.
  
  Now when you ring Vodafone you get some Indian with a thick accent in a Pune call centre trying to fart out a few Maori words as well. That part seems more important now than helping.

    It’s not only Vodafone’s phone call centre. Try a Vodafone online inquiry and you will likely be chatting with someone with a multi-syllable Hindi name. Better to type the first letter and a fullstop rather than insult the person by mis-spelling their name.
    
    To be fair, Indians usually have a good grasp of written English, and they are usually polite and helpful. It’s the accent that can trip you, just as our accent can test folk when we make a phone inquiry to, say, America.

      Because I am rascist I assume all call centres are in Pune after I saw 250 kiwis lose their jobs to one a few years back.
      
      Interestingly those 250 staff had an average salary back then of $50k each. The equivalent cost of the offshore call centre was $5K US per person per year. A great saving for the business and the best bit about it was the service was so bad the customers stopped ringing.
      
      The call centre’s are polite, yes. Helpful, no. Stick to the script, avoid responsibility and transfer you to another department. They would make great politicians.

That would have been $50million spent to develop one of probably the top 100 courses in the world, plus all the spending flowing into the the area for decades. I remember when

Council’s call for water reform pause: Northern Outlook.
Kaikoura mayor said the information provided by the department for the future investment of Kaikoura’s Three Waters infrastructure was “fundamentally flawed and frankly ludicrous.”
Using the Water Industry Commission of Scotland (WICS) as a model, the department estimated $280 million would need to be spent over next 30-50 years.
This was based on modelling of a cap of $70,000 per connected citizen.
Their population is about 4260.
The council’s own estimate for the next three decades was just $27.2m.
One the face of it we could, using WICS numbers, replace of existing Three Waters network 5 times in the next three decades.

For his parting gesture I see Ashley Bloomfield is going on a crusade to force councils to start mass-mass-medicating by fluoridating drinking water.

He obviously isn’t aware of this Harvard study:

Turns out that when countries that haven’t fluoridated water are compared with countries that have, the drop in tooth decay is very similar. Mainly due to the introduction of fluoridated toothpaste and improvements in dental hygiene generally.

I think fluoridating the water is a complete waste of time and forcing most people, who already get enough fluoride through toothpaste to get more than they need.

Also, the reason that those who have tooth decay from a young age is largely to do with the fact that they tend to drink fizzy drinks instead of water. So, adding fluoride to the water supply is going to completely miss the target it is trying to hit.

Better to add fluoride to fizzy drinks.

  We make the assumption that the people (children) who are vulnerable actually use toothpaste and or clean their teeth regularly. As far as I know from people who have worked with children in places like South Auckland in dentisrty you find that a toothbrush itself is unheard of in the first place.     As the article points out, there are risks of harm with too much fluoride. In itself, I don’t think the concentration of fluoride in fluoridated water is problematic.       Back in the day, Christchurch had two councils, Christchurch City and Waimairi,
      
      Waimairi water was fluoridated, Christchurch City water was not.
      
      My dentist (in the city centre) reckoned he could tell which part of Christchurch kids lived from the state of their teeth, and Waimairi kids had the better ones.
      
      In the early days of the Tiwai aluminium smelter at Bluff, some folk reckoned there was fluorine in the air from the process, but there was never any proof of health problems for Bluffies.

        Yes, Waimairi had fluoridated water between 1965 and 1986 (see below).
        
        But I wonder if that there would still be a noticeable difference today in the general (tooth cleaning) population due to the impact of fluoridated toothpaste on those who have good dental hygiene.
        
        As I said in my first post, fluoridated water won’t help target populations if they drink fizzy rather than water anyway.

    Why should everyone be force medicated because some don’t do what they need to protect themselves? The same happened a couple of years ago with folic acid I believe? The only benefit is to pregnant women who can very easily take it themselves, as my wife did. But if it went ahead as I believe it it was put into bread. Anyone eating store bought bread was getting folic acid whether they wanted it or not.
    It’s government overreach. Give those who need and want that help access to it.

    Flossie – I would recommend UK Column News. I’ve been following them for almost 2 years. They were mostly focused on covid for a while (as everyone was). But they also cover other major world events. Their main website is here.

So Steve Hansen has a fairly pointed stab at the NZRFU Board when defending Fossie. Perhaps he is justified, but I guess the questions that need to be asked are (1) didn’t Hansen have his finger solidly in Fosters pie with regard to him getting the job? and perhaps more importantly, (2) after his outburst, what is in it for Steve Hansen? Are there rugby political machinations afoot?
I’d also make the point that Hansen’s comparison of Cane to Carter with regard to results after injuries, is tenuous at best, as Carter was still by far the best five eighth in NZ even when he wasn’t on top of his game. I would suggest there is evidence that says Cane isn’t the best open-side when he is on top of his game (and comparing Cane to McCaw is imo slightly out there).

  It does illustrate how nutritionally impoverished people were 100 years back. That can be seen also in the rapid rise in average height – a gain of over 15cm in many countries from 1880’s to 1980’s, and possibly that is also the explanation for most of the Flynn effect (increase in average IQ)

  The “Three Waters” referred to by Kate Hawkesby is a department established at CCC, and has been for some years. This has nothing to do with Mahuta’s proposed bill. Helen Beaumont is a very competent senior manager who has overseen this department, and, though not without fault, Christchurch is reasonably well served in this area.
  
  My point is, Mahuta’s 3-waters and CCC 3-waters are not the same thing.

    I advised her she was wrong and she chortled at me. I then advised her my advice came from the most respected Planning lawyer in Chch as well two other planning lawyers. She still chortled. I then advised her I got the same advice from the biggest Architectural practise in Nz and probably the most senior planner in Chch. Still more chortled.     I fnd it interesting that you think that a politician should never change their mind when faced with new facts… “there is no alternative”, “the woman is not for turning”.
    
    Personally, I think that never changing your point of view in the face of new and changing scientific information is an excellent way to deal with overpopulation and the housing crisis.
    
    I also read with interest how vaccination for measles in children has dropped off a cliff. IMO there is nothing better than dead children for educating a population and dealing with a dropping population IQ.

      Baker was asked if he had ever said masks don’t work. He didn’t say anything about “changing his mind”. He lied and said “no, never”. The evidence is in the video.
      
      Fauci stated he never advocated for lockdowns. The video from 2 years ago shows him clearly saying exactly that. He lied.
      
      The Bloomfield video explains itself. Bloomfield is lying. If you want to know why then watch it. If you disagree then explain why with some evidence.
      
      Re your comments on measles vaccination, I have no idea if that is true or not. Give me some links that resemble evidence to support your claim. If there is a reduction in uptake of measles vaccination then maybe they shouldn’t destroy trust in the health sector. It has been one of the greatest “successes” of Ardern and her experts in the last 2 years.
      Also, people have struggled to get access to many normal medical services due to the crisis which is completely the responsibility of these people.
      Anyway, let me know when the bodies start dropping in the streets.

    Covid is indeed mutating. All viruses do. This was widely known. So what was the point of creating a “vaccine” that can only target the original virus? That is unable to do anything to deal with the predicted and numerous variants?
    
    The problem is:

    The nub of it is, the more you vaccinate, the bigger the problem. Worse, it damages your innate immune system making it less able to fight disease. It can be hard to get your head around, but as Eugyppius says:

    All of the other endemic coronaviruses that regularly infect us work in much the same way. There will be seasonal SARS-2 infection spikes probably for as long as humans walk the earth. The vaccinators, unless they are stopped, will only make these spikes more dramatic and disruptive.”
    
    That’s the science riffer. Now have a look in the mirror and see what is staring YOU in the face. The clown show is just beginning. The negative impacts of this vaccine campaign are already huge and the more Ardern and co double down, the worse this shit is going to get.

  It’s probably not surprising that people who buy utes are still buying utes. They ultimately serve a purpose for many people and the fee won’t change that. Hopefully some business managers and accountants will decide they don’t need a Raptor for carting about their laptop and takeaway coffee!
  
  It has resulted in a big influx of hybrid vehicles to be driven by middle NZ on the school run, which is probably a far bigger pollution benefit for us all!
