Has Michael ‘river of filth’ Wood been the government MP that has overseen changes that drive inflation/cost of living the most. From his refusal to spend on roads and dropping speed limits driving up delivery costs, to (un) Fair Pay Agreements that will drive wage rises across low margin operators resulting to cost increases to customers, to restricting immigration to drive up local wages with operators lifting their prices to cover.
The most anti-democratic minister (Local Government) surely goes to Nanaia Mahuta, with her removal of local councils able to hold referendums on Māori Wards, the Canterbury Ngai Tahu bill placing unelected counsellors on ECAN, the Rotorua Electoral Bill to over-ride the Local Electoral Act 2001, the grossly unpopular 3 waters bill and its associated entrenchment of privatisation element.
Is it any wonder people are waking up and getting pissed off.

  IMHO the so called liberal Left are illiberal and intolerant. They lack the capacity and capability to debate issues in a rational reasonable mature manner.
  Take co-governance. Anyone asking why this is necessary is called a racist red neck. The left are relying on a document nearly 200 years old and importing words and meaning that are included in that document.
  They are like the character in Alice in Wonderland who said words mean what I want them to mean.

      There are several issues. The first is that the spike protein is toxic. This has been shown in a number of studies. The nature of a mRNA vaccine is to use one’s own cells to produce the spike – and this occurs in large numbers. The second is that there are several untruths being used. Professor Nikki Turner from Auckland University’s Immunisation Centre is grossly misleading with her comment about antibodies in almost all blood when specifically not addressing the presence of the spike in vaccinated people. The other is that the NZBTS says all traces of the mRNA vaccine have disappeared by 14 days. This is untrue and proper testing has shown it to be present in blood after 4 months (might be longer but it is when the testing was stopped).
      
      Blood transfusion services worldwide offer a “nominated” donors service. This was something that was the result of the AIDS epidemic. It really is not hard to do and practically well within the capabilities of the NZBTS.
      
      The longer this child’s surgery is delayed the greater the lung damage and the poorer the outcome. This child needs its surgery and the Covid narrative needs to be cast aside for the good of the child.

        I’m with you, mawm. I heard her comments on the News: Nikki Turner tried to present the issue as a quibble over the presence of antibodies in the blood, and whether they came from a ‘natural infection’ or vaccination .. I don’t believe that’s the real issue.
        
        Nikki Turner should tell us if she can GUARANTEE there are NO Pfizer-designed Spike Proteins AND no synthetic mRNA, in the donor blood.. if she can’t do that — and I don’t think she can — she should back off trying to lecture these parents.
        
        If she DOES want to give that guarantee, she should cite some studies.
        
        Unfortunately — outside of communist countries and the 3rd world — we live in the World Centre of ‘one size fits all’ Nanny Statism’ .. so NZ’s deep state will close ranks on this.

    I completely disagree.
    
    The parents’ request for the use of blood not contaminated with mRNA proteins is reasonable, and they had 20+ suitable donors lined up.
    
    The doctors and health authorities are being intransigent and haven’t offered any reasons why the parents’ wishes could not be accommodated.

      They don’t want to set a precedent. It is the same logic used for vaccinating a population so a failing “health system” wouldn’t get overwhelmed. The politico/medico group simply place their wellbeing first, and it is nothing new.

        The only reason I have heard as to why the doctors/hospital might not want to accommodate the parents’ wishes is, in effect, that it might be a bit of a bother keeping the blood separate.

    @ Mcos: We don’t know the back story. The child is 4 months old and its problems would have been identified shortly after birth.
    I suspect that the first requests would have been made after the parents had done their research , and were perfectly civil until the doctors rejected their concerns, after which the parents became desperate
    I think that Sue Grey may well have been the only person who would support them, as most lawyers seem to have been captured by government dictates.

  Who are you to give advice MCos, just like Andrew Little a expert at everything but master of none. What is the difference with Andrew Little refusing to Listen to Doctors and Nurses when they said if the working conditions don’t change in our Wards and Hospitals there will be deaths from understaffing.
  To be quite honest how could anyone be sure the Health Sector is right with their opinion after what happened over Covid-19 and the lies that were told with that.

    There is a broader issue here. The NZ Blood Service just could not function if it had to meet the wishes of individual recipients. Although in this instance it could possibly meet the parents’ wishes at great inconvenience and expense, as a general case it would impose enormous financial and other burdens on the organisation. For example presumably the parents if they thought about it would prefer that the blood came from people who had no immunisations at all. There is also donor issues – it is hard enough finding donors as it is. Odds on the parents are not regular blood donors anyway. If the service becomes politicised, people would be less inclined to be donors.
    It is extremely doubtful that the Court could make the child a temporary state ward with a condition concerning blood source. If it did it would put the team responsible for the child’s health in an impossible situation. If the Court declines to make the order it lets the medical team off the hook but potentially exposes the parents to a manslaughter charge.
    For all the things said about Andrew Little, he has the right perspective on this one – with the support of what he learned at Law School.

      @ peterwn: The Blood Service could process the collected blood the same way it does for any major surgery. It would be no more expensive, and any not used could be used to the benefit of others.
      The mother is a midwife. Do you really think the she has not ‘thought about it’? She will understand the difference between a vaccine which has been used for generations vs the new ‘safe and effective’ product which is proving to be definitely not so. She is fighting for her child’s future, and not willing to compromise.
      Oh that all parents were as protective of their children.

        Any splitting of system processes will invariably lead to greater costs and other issues. As has been commented, the Covid vaccine as such would have been flushed out of the blood stream and any Covid related substances in the blood would be there whether the donor had been vaccinated or not. So frankly it is a big fuss about nothing.

      Why can’t the Blood Services meet the request to have CVD Jab free blood? They do extensive testing on blood to ensure the blood type matches, etc. That’s why they pull your unit plus the 2 extra tubes for testing. And they can add one question to all donors “Have you been Vaccinated?” I’ve not donated for a while, but I’d be surprised if they aren’t already asking this. Adding a CVD Jabbed/not Jabbed tag would add little and could be important given the now UNDISPUTED excess all cause (excluding CVD) mortality in many countries, including NZ.
      Also what does the parents donation status have to do with it? You assume they aren’t donors an what ground? The fact that they were able to get Jab free donors lined up implies they knew enough or were potentially donors themselves to be able to organize this.

        I’m a regular platelet donor, at least once a month recently. They do not ask about the COVID vaccine specifically.
        
        Would it be possible to go private and negate all of this?
        
        I’ve noticed that, according to the NZBlood app my platelets have been used consistently this year. A lot more compared with previous years anyway.

        Because the Service will start receiving all sorts of requests which would make the system quite unwieldley. If covid immunisation-free blood was offered as a separate ‘product’ then there would be demands for blood that comes from donors who have never had immunisations.
        Another problem in this case – time is almost of the essence. Even if the Blood Service could identify sufficient donors of the required blood group and who have not been vaccinated, it is still going to take time to obtain, test and process the blood. By that time, the blood will probably not be needed.

        Nope, not true Steve. One of our kids is O- and neither of us are. Because his blood is so sought after he donates once a month. Before he had surgery, they took 8 pints from him (in the US) in case he needed a transfusion. He can only receive ) O- blood and none of his immediate family are a match.

    The child and parents are in an unenviable position.
    Te Whata Ora is continuing with the “our vaccine is great and you plebs aren’t allowed mRNA free blood from all the donors lining up to give it” line.
    I was talking to an American friend yesterday and he said during the 80s AIDS scare you could specify blood from relatives or even your own for operations.
    The only difference is in this case Te Whata Ora says there’s no proof mud blood is harmful, probably true, but also no proof it isn’t, and one of the leading mRNA side effects is heart issues.

  The problem is if the Courts agree then I could demand blood only from a person born in Outer Mongolia. This is about pragmatisim and precident. I sympathise with the parents and their principle but the Blood Service would collapse if many people demanded their blood reference. People would die whilst their request was being processed.

    I don’t see that’s the case at all. The parents have 20+ people lined up to be donors, so acquiescing to their real and valid concerns would not be difficult in a practical sense.
    
    The reason the health authorities don’t wish to do this is IMO for reasons of control and keeping the narrative going.

    This Bay of plenty pamphlet already details the blood accomodations they make for jehovahs witnesses. “Cell salvage – Many Jehovah’s Witnesses will allow reinfusion of their own blood collected at surgery by cell salvage. Usually they will not wish the blood to leave the room and for it to be returned as soon as possible. Cell salvage should be available in theatre for Jehovah’s Witnesses, who consent to its use, having a surgical or obstetric procedure and who are at risk of significant blood loss. The procedure should be explained in advance to the patient for elective procedures. Some patients may have principles regarding how long the blood can be held before being reinfused, what the priming solution is, and the planned process. It is sensible to reach agreement on this with the patient in advance in the elective setting.”
    
    So there is already documented policy , based on law and medical ethics, recognising peoples alternate believes and accommodating them re blood transfusion. This is just another example of the tossing out of our bill of rights and medical ethics to force the still not fully approved gene vax.

  We were karakiaed at the begining. And at the end. That seemed to be the sole purpose of the presence of the person who lead the karakia as from what I could see the person made no other substantive contribution to technical discussions about engineering and urban planning.

    Happens all the time! There is a lot of excitement about exporting hydrogen from New Zealand! And guess what – it is like exporting water and energy. There is a big enough stink over proposals to export bottled water, and yet exporting hydrogen would be effectively exporting vastly greater quantities of water than for proposed bottled water exports. Also NZ is a net importer of energy so it makes no sense to try and export energy (which is what hydrogen is all about).

      Essentially the aluminium smelter at Bluff is exporting energy too. Aluminium is basically the result of bauxite (the ore) + a whole lot of electricity.
      
      There is some strange notion that hygrogen is “clean” and a fuel source. Nope. It is pretty much very inefficiently converted energy. Taking an energy source and transforming it into hydrogen for later burning in an ICE or fuel cell is about as wasteful as it gets.

      Russia has around 400,000 troops on the border and not committed, and Ukraine has no power, no food and is running out of ammunition.
      
      If that is dismantling Russia, what would losing to them look like? – how would it be different from having your entire army and airforce chewed up and annihilated, and your national grid systematically destroyed?

The Fair Pay Agreement law kicks in today, and already Unite Union is going to fill out the paperwork to apply:

Hospitality workers are expected to be the first group to apply to start negotiating a Fair Pay Agreement (FPA) with their employers.

Unite Union plans to submit paperwork with the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) today to get approval to start bargaining on behalf of hospitality workers.

The FPA Act, which also takes effect today, outlines a process for employers and employees to follow to negotiate baseline pay and working conditions.

Negotiations can only begin if the chief executive of MBIE is satisfied a minimum number (1000) or portion (10 per cent) of workers in an industry or occupation want to go to the bargaining table, or if a “public interest” test is met.

All employers and employees will fall under the agreement, including those who don’t want to be involved and those who aren’t union members.

Unite Union national secretary John Crocker said he had signatures from more than 1500 hospitality workers supportive of initiating an FPA.

Hospitality workers include those who work at restaurants, cafes, bars, accommodation providers, cinemas and theatres.

Crocker estimated that around 80,000 to 100,000 people could be included in the FPA

Several points arise here; how can 1500 people, less than 2% of the estimated hospo workforce, trigger a Fair Pay Agreement affecting everyone in the industry? It seems that employers’ fears, expressed as the law was making its way through the parliamentary process were well founded.

And why should FPA’s apply to everyone in a given industry, right across the country? Given that FPA’s are likely by sheer weight of numbers to be Auckland-centric, why should provincial employers have to pay Auckland wages when the cost of living in their region is significantly less?

Forcing provincial employers to pay wages out of proportion to the cost of living in their areas will be the death of dozens of small hospitality businesses in the first instance, and other businesses later as more FPA’s follow. Does the government not realise how many businesses are hanging on by their fingernails, or by returning to 1970’s style unionism, do they even care?

  This is of course where we’re heading, this is what Labour ultimately want, with the grocery commission, energy and petrol companies regulation, Labour seemingly intent of taking over the housing market and setting rents etc – so let’s just give up now and save ourselves a whole lot of angst and wasted worry trying to fight it.
  
  Let the state organise and run the whole economy, employ everyone and set the levels of all costs and prices etc.

    A little tidbit if of interest – I read recently that at the end of the Soviet system they were managing and setting the prices of 28,000,000 individual goods and services – and with the real kicker of attempting to maintain the price relativity between all 28 million items.
    
    An impossible task which they failed miserably at.

  This could be viewed as good news by some employers – just saying but as an employer who likes to pay in the upper quartile, pay equity for care givers in aged care has been a real bonus as they now have legislated pay rates we can point to.   To be fair as someone from Africa, when I see someone who is plainly African, I always, always, ALWAYS resist asking them where they are from, or even bursting unexpectedly into isiZulu.
  Which is sort of a shame, as I love talking to black people. But I know they generally have extremely thin skins.
  The Uber driver I got in Christchurch a while ago though, he was awesome. Had a full on convo in Zulu. Ngyabonga mfowetu.

    I always just ask them and say I’m from Africa too.
    But then I do that with everyone, regardless of race, so nobody can accuse me of racism.
    
    I have generally found African-born Africans to be a bit homesick and want to talk to anyone else from Africa even if from the other end of Africa (eg. the Kenyan nurse who looked after me in hospital a few years ago).
    
    I think the touchy ones are those that have been away from Africa for a few generations (eg. African Americans) who are African in name only and make a huge song and dance about it.
    
    The biggest problem with asking “uyasikhuluma isiZulu” is that the Uber driver might be Xhosa and kick you out!

    Before the welfare state there was charity providing the same service. Then the state took over to make it more efficient etc, but all that really happened is that it turned into a trough for activists.
    
    Whenever you accept funding you also accept the oversight/activism of the people holding the purse strings. In general these are now overwhelmingly wokesters.

Is this really a KO problem or is this really a police matter? Society is screwed when decent people have to live in fear because the cops can’t do their job.

The government have been given the job of protecting the citizens. When the government refuses to do their job then it is time for the citizens to take back this function.

    KO has a close relationship with the police. In practice, tenants are “risk rated”. There may be circumstances where KO would ask police to accompany a tenancy manager who is simply doing a routine property inspection. At any one time there will be many properties that are classified as so dangerous that they are out of bounds to any KO staff without being accompanied by the police.

  A bit of both.
  
  A landlord can evict a tenant who repeatedly behaves like an idiot and disturbs the neighbours. (e.g gets drunk and makes a racket late at night, throws beer bottles over the fence). Private landlords frequently evict them. KO in theory can evict them after “3 strikes”, the policy that was introduced early in 2022. However, I am informed that no tenants have been evicted using this new policy.
  
  If the activity of the tenants escalates to criminal offending (e.g punching the neighbour), that is a police matter. If approached, KO will advise the victim to go to the police immediately. However, frequently, the victims are fearful of reprisals.
  
  In summary, KO has all the powers to evict that are possessed by private landlords. The most common grounds for eviction are:
  
  – not paying rent
  – damage to the property
  – anti social behaviour
  
  KO does not, as a matter of policy evict tenants on any of those three grounds. Their policy is to not apply the law.

India’s Reserve Bank begins a trial of central bank digital currency today.

In four cities, four commercial banks will provide “digital wallets” through which retail customers and merchants in a closed user group will be able to make transactions of digital rupees.

The trial begins in Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengaluru, and Bhubaneswar. It will later be extended to banks in Ahmedabad, Gangtok, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Kochi, Lucknow, Patna and Shimla.

A central bank digital currency differs from cryptocurrencies in that it is a digital form of a country’s fiat (normal, physical) currency.

  CBDCs are best described as tokens that are loaned to you by the state.
  
  They can expire if not spent. You can be fined for spending on ‘unapproved’ things. You can be denied (or permitted) particular spending (eg travel). You can be forbidden from spending outside the area you live (eg lockdown, imprisonment).
  
  CBDC’s represent the most significant enslavement of humankind in history.
  
  Of course they’ll be introduced gently, and ‘kindly’. But once our closet tyrants get their hands on the levers you can expect freedom and liberty to become forgotten concepts.

I am still on a mission to find a workable Android ad blocker to make posting less frustrating while google steals cpu and bandwidth with incessant advt swaps.

I’ve tried Adblock add-in which was slow, didn’t stop the culprit ads, blocked links and left pages permanently trying to complete.

Then Adblock Plus browser stopped the ads but won’t resize or rotate, has no tabs or refresh and blocked my password manager.

Anyone found something better?

ACE (Accumulated Cyclone Energy) compiles data on the number of storms, their intensity and how long they last. Klotzbach noted that for the first time in 25 years, and only the third time since 1950, no storms formed in the Atlantic basin in August. Measured by ACE, it was said to be the least active hurricane season through to the end of August since 1988.

I’d go further. I would include drink driving, after your second or third disqualification you lose your license and after how ever long you are disqualified from driving you have to start from scratch again on a leaners license.

The Government is increasing penalties for motorists who fail to stop for police or refuse to help officers with identifying the driver of a fleeing vehicle. It believes the new enforcement tools will help police deal with dangerous and reckless driving on New Zealand roads.

  It is a truly pathetic response, in the context of the issues being faced today.
  The cars being used and almost exclusively stolen for the purpose, being Aquas and Demios which are easily taken/do not have immobilisers as standard.
  
  So how is disqualifying a driver, or impounding a car, going to affect car stealing ram-raiders, or the aggravated robbery smash & grabbers?
  
  These people are completely useless willful morons.
  Ordinary people are saying that lack of consequences are a key failure here, and these are NOT consequences for these type of offenders.

    This is a false dichotomy used to create a false premise for discussing the impact of ficticious sea level rise etc.
    
    So what if places are semi-regularly cut off by road? That happens to many places and the roads are often reopened quickly. For example it is quite common for the Haast Pass to be closed by a mudslide and reopened within a day.
    
    What does “every effort to keep roads open” mean?
    No government makes “every effort” for any policy.
    Seldom do roads actually get “wiped out”.

    Lol Most of those small rural roads were built one hundred+ years ago by hand. Now with millions more people paying rates and taxes and modern machinery we can’t keep the same roads open and paved to a high standard ? Bullshit. This is ideological to push us into high density cities.
    
    Ps. Rural roads might lead to low density towns but they also lead to our most popular holiday and scenic destinations. The rural roads and townships are manned by volunteer firefighters, volunteer coastguards, and volunteer surf lifesavers often from those same rural towns.

I don’t know if anybody has posted a link to this excellent and informative talk by British cardiologist Dr Aseem Malhotra “Has Big Pharma Hijacked Evidence Based Medicine?” Dr Malhotra has been an activist in trying to reform the NHS and is a campaigner for healthy diet in addition to0 being a published cardiologist.

After his father died as a result of the mRNA vaccine he campaigned against the NHS vaccine mandates and is now calling for cessation of the vaccine use until further research has been done.

It is particularly informative in this age of Pharma misconduct and misleading claims especially over mRNA vaccines. It is worth the 1hour 10min of your time.

Regarding the report about the abused and murdered child Malachi:
So a woman going to prison asked her pal to look after her kid (and presumably was paid by the state to so do).
But surely some welfare outfit would have made a few enquiries about the so-called care giver?
Or is this common place with the handing over of children to your friend- with no checks or questions asked?
And when family members of the child started asking – they were turned away.
What the heck do people at OT do all day?
I would have thought background checks and monitoring would have been mandatory in such a situation?

Is there some deliberate undermining of Cindy going on.

There is now apparently a “constitutional spat” over 3W and Cindy is saying there is “confusion”.

There should be neither of these. She’s the PM and this is the most important legislation in her whole time as PM. She should be on top of this.

Instead she’s out having “girl time” with the Finnish PM!

It looks to me like she is being deliberately hung out to dry and is being strong-armed by the Maori caucus.

Re : The horrific story of abuse and failed intervention of the little boy who died Malaki.

Are government workers or organisations ever held to account or named.

The independent review is out and there was an article saying everyone needs to work together better and other non specific comments.

But my quesion is why isn’t Malaki’s social work team named. His family rang Oranga Tamariki and complained and raised concerns…..so what happened to those reports. Who specifically failed to act? Or chose not to act. Surely this is a critical flaw that should see you lose your job. If it was a private company and a boss’s negligence resulted in death they would be fined thousands and possibly go to jail. I know the mother went to jail and placed him with her friend, but surely he had assigned social workers – who were they. And Who was their head of department.

What are Oranga Tamariki’s KPI’s. When a child goes to a new carer, how often do they ring. How often do they visit. When a person complains what is their policy. How many hours until their is a home visit.

And the doctor that didn’t do a full medical and look under his shirt and see the burns, was he given any professional reprimand.

And the family who were told by the daughter that she hated the child and wanted to murder him, were they charged as accessories. Or named. They literally lived on the front property.

I compare this to the farmers I heard ringing Newstalk Zb today saying they have bureacrats visit them for a shed check and they have been failed for the wrong type of thermometer and expired sunblock.

We check the pugging for cattle but don’t do the most rudimentary checks of children with brand new carers. Surely in the first month of new untested carer you would ring every day. You would ring the home, do a zoom call, zoom with the daycare, visit the home, visit the kid at daycare. And their should be a regulars doctors visit . And do social welfare not check in on the people who they pay to deliver foster care?

But when their is family complaints of harm to Oranga Tamariki and no action, why isn’t that criminally negligent.
