      Cass, he was the closest NZ had to a Savage type, revered by old Labour because of his humble beginnings on the ferries. I was not a Labour voter at the time but I was saddened to hear of his death. I learnt years later from an Air Force guy on Kirk’s last fatefull flight to Wellington that Norm was visibly a very ill man. The toll of high office showed on a man who at heart was a simple person, but with high ideals. CT’s abound about his ideas regarding our fuel supplies and Big Oil perhaps poisoning him but I think the stresses of office simply led to his health declining.

    He was in Wellington while his wife was in Christchurch – so she wasn’t available with the instrument used to wake him from his snoring – her elbow.

        both took on the big boys. Trying to rape their countries and rip their people off .
        Kirk was murdered , Whitlam was screwed when the Governor General( Kerr ) was paid to sack him , the first instalment to John kerr ( who joined ray clines payroll. ) was $200,000 nov 74.
        The trouble was Kirk had introduced a tough anti monopoly bill designed to redistribute wealth to workers through wages and price regulation

        ROWLING THE TRAITOR first move as pm was to withdraw kirks anti monopoly bill , and also his petroleum bill .

Japan has launched an official investigation into the unprecedented numbers of people dying after receiving the Covid-19 vaccination.

Kyoto Univerisity Prof. Emeritus Dr. Masanori Fukushima slammed Japan’s Ministry of Health for refusing to halt its Covid vaccination program

“People are already doing research all over the world,” Fukushima told health ministers during a conference earlier this month. “Japan’s prestige is at stake. You have vaccinated so many people. And yet, only 10% of the members of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, who are leading members of the vaccine campaign have been vaccinated. Is this a fucking joke?”

As at Dec 31, 2022, Japan had plunged 299 needles into every 100 arms, one of the highest ‘vaccination’ rates in the world. Looks like they are waking up.

Come on Ardern. Halt the damage you’re continuing to do, or resign.

I’d settle for both.

  Sooner or later the World will need to have Nuremberg 2.0. Some heavy prosecutions and heavy sentences. Not just fines, jail right through to pricks like Fauci. Rand Paul has got him by the short and curly.

This is the study of stop[ping] drug disaster[s]. That’s the mission, the raison d’etre. That’s why I’m involved with the COVID-19 vaccine problem. Because no scientists and only a few physicians have spoken out about the problem of vaccines.
    
    So no, he’s not a fringe “conspiracy theorist.”
    Here are some key comments from his interview on the 28th December. It is a startling interview.
    
    ….when I heard that Government and EU and USA started the messenger RNA program my first impression was this is so stupid. Because messenger RNA is evolutionary, and the cell system is degraded always in a very short time. Messenger RNA is fragile and should be degraded promptly in the body. But this vaccine is modified and manipulated to be stable and to be incorporated in nanoparticles.
    
    ……But it has became a kind of religion. Still, they believe in the effectiveness of the vaccine – it’s like a Messiah.
    
    …….The cases (vaccine damage) are accumulating but the Government has denied causality even for the autopsied cases, in which the pathologist has pointed out the causality. There is clear evidence of a significant increase in heart problems and vascular problems such as strokes and pneumonia-like symptoms and others.
    
    ……I asked the government to disclose the COVID-19 mortality in vaccinated and non-vaccinated people. This statistic is critical. If there is no difference, then the vaccine induced deaths do not justify the use of the vaccines. I officially requested this information with my attorney on August 1st. And the first answer was “wait two months”. And then the final answer was “no, we do not disclose”. So, the next step is to sue the Government.
    
    ……There are so many deaths. It is an unprecedented vaccine disaster. I can’t imagine how many people have really died. 2,000 is the minimum, the tip of the iceberg.
    
    Finally, to endorse Krazykiwi’s earlier post re vaccines fueling variants (as predicted by many.)
    
    PP: Finally, in your reports you said, perhaps particularly the booster shots, are damaging people’s immune systems, opening them up to all kinds of problems?
    
    MF: Yes, this has been known from the early days of the vaccine, that it may trigger ADE which is when the antibody accelerates cellular infections. And if you are repeatedly dosed this can lead to original antigen sin. The first-generation vaccine was designed to attack the first variant and second Delta. This was already clearly demonstrated by Catherine Reynolds’ report. So, vaccinated people do not produce appropriate anti-bodies for Omicron. The vaccines can shut down the innate immune system due to the first design of the vaccine.

  I think the difficulty is that Kevin McCarthy is a very moderate Republican. He speaks nicely, he looks nice, he seems like a nice guy. However the grassroots of the Republican Party is very unhappy with the direction of the country. There are cultural issues like highly sexualised drag queens reading stories to small children in libraries, biological males destroying women’s sports and the general craziness of far leftist intersectionality. Then there are economic issues like the huge debt, out-of-control government spending and massive inflation. There is the general decline of America’s standing in the world, the humiliating retreat from Afghanistan and the open border across which 5 million illegal aliens have past. There is out-of-control crime and security guards and police appear powerless to intervene when gangs of criminals rob stores in broad daylight.
  
  What the Republican base wants is a Speaker who will fight for their interests and will fight to save the country from far left Socialist governance. They want investigations done and they want to see people go to jail for criminal corruption. That’s what the fight is about.
  
  As we can tell these kind of issues are also very relevant to a small country we know well in the South Pacific.

    No one from the little clique voting against McCarthy is going to magically become speaker. Your talking points are fantasies that appeal to a small fringe of US voters.
    To take just one example – debt. These guys will vote against anyone who might support raising the debt ceiling. As there is literally zero chance of the HoR proposing a package of raised taxes and lowered expenditure that could, in theory, address the problem, in effect they want the US to start defaulting on debt.

      You think parents are not incensed by the highly sexualised curriculum they are bringing into primary schools? I have seen video of literally hundreds of parents at school board meetings protesting the sexualisation of their children and the destruction of their innocence. This is not a fringe issue.
      
      5 million illegal aliens crossing the border during Bidens presidency. It is the whole population of New Zealand. Democrats get incensed when 50 illegal aliens are sent to Martha’s Vineyard. What about the border towns that have to deal with thousands and thousands of illegal aliens? You think that is a fringe issue?
      
      Out-of-control crime is not a fringe issue. Here in New Zealand one of the reasons for the massive decline in popularity of Adern is that the labour government is soft on crime. We are having 500 ram raids a year! That is not a fringe issue. Not here and not in America.
      
      The debt has exploded to trillions of dollars. That is not a fringe issue. The Republican base wants a fighter, not a run-of-the-mill milquetoast politician as speaker of the house. And they have every right to expect one.

        I didn’t say that debt was a fringe issue. It is just one on which some representatives would rather see the debt payments in default rather than have to compromise over revenue and expenditure.
        On your other examples, perhaps you agree with Jordan, Donalds, Boebert etc, that it is much better to have no functioning legislature than one that might not provide all that they demand.

  Had 11 votes now with no sign of sanity prevailing. I think it now means they take the weekend off and think for a few days about whether it’s worth having a speaker at all. That suits some of them fine, as they don’t believe in any legislation that would need to pass a democratic sente or be signed by Biden, but most of them will want to get on with more important business like investigating political enemies and holding hearings on whether children should be allowed to learn about slavery, etc.

Glengarry’s Mt Eden store has been done over twice in the space of five days, seemingly by the same group of young offenders. In both cases, the alleged offenders were arrested by Police.

Labour launched a Youth Crime initiative less than a month ago, which was going to see “children who commit serious crimes will be dealt with immediately and receive the support they need to stop them offending again.” Has this policy actually been rolled out, or have Ministers and officials delayed it until after the holidays? After all, crims have holidays too, don’t they?

The one saving grace of the Glengarry offences is that they occurred in the early hours of the morning, when stores were closed. But just yesterday a Hamilton shopkeeper was robbed at gunpoint, and it seems only a matter of time before another worker or business owner is seriously injured or killed during a robbery. “failing to vote ACT or National is as good as a vote for Labour”

So said one of the Labour plants who infest Kiwiblog and have been saying similar things now for three or four elections. So each election we dutifully vote for the Nats and the country continues to slide to the left. Electing a National govt is not going to reverse NZ’s slide into a Venezuelan/ Zimbabwean style socialist sewer, and with the far left Luxon/ Willis combination leading the party, the above commenter should have just kept it short and said “a vote for National is the same as a vote for Labour.”

How do we know this? Luxon and Willis have both told us how far left they are. Luxon in his maiden speech to parliament where he boasted endlessly about his work at Air NZ, where he turned the company into his own little woke empire, with staff appointments made on a gender or race basis, and forced to learn the utterly useless dialect that is described as the “Maori” language. He said his proudest achievement there was converting the vehicle fleet to electric.

His commitment to Zero Carbon 2050 means he is locked into the same tyrannical govt policies as Labour, and waffle about achieving these targets by means of technology just doesn’t bear scrutiny. He should be saying its impossible, its unnecessary and its going to destroy NZ’s economy, but he wont, because the truth is he’s just Jacinda Ardern with a shaved head. (and that’s another issue- what kind of man shaves his head in preference to be seen to be a ginger? There’s some weird psychology going on there.)

Willis, one of the first in the party to learn to speak Maori, has been a “progressive” cancer on the party for a decade now. A leading figure in the clique that replaced Bridges with the buffoon Muller, thereby guaranteeing Jacinda Ardern a record win. She was also behind Luxon’s replacement of Collins. Its no secret around parliament that she has her eye on the main prize. She would be twice the disaster as a leader that Luxon, and praised Ardern’s speech at Harvard where the PM boasted of the progressive policies she had implemented.

NZ is desperate to free itself of the grip of the Ardern regime, and in this desperation is going to elect not the real National party, not a Ron DeSantis clone, not a conviction politician, but a gang of weak vacillating imposters who are really the Green Left, and who will take the party further from its founding principles as it has ever been. Luxon has frequently expressed his personal regard for Jimmy Shaw, and even expressed a willingness to collaborate with the Greens. Its not beyond belief that he he would make the Greens a coalition partner.

Luxon says he won’t release policy least Labour get the jump on it. Really, he’s holding it back because he doesn’t want you to twig that its basically the same as Labour.

Sid Holland is spinning in his grave. His party is gone. Vote for Nats if you must, but make sure you make full use of NZ’s MMP system by electing other parties that may amount to at least half of an opposition. ACT, Matt King in Northland would make a big difference. Just don’t give untrammeled power to Luxon/ Willis. I predict that for their betrayal of the man in the streets expectations, and just like Ardern, they will be the most hated people in NZ in two years time.

  Let’s compare Christopher Luxon to Adern. Luxon has a commerce degree and worked his way up to CEO of Air NZ. Adern has a communication degree and worked her way up to fish and chip worker. Luxon is wealthy and can easily earn multiples more than the primeminister’s remuneration in the private sector. Adern was a fish and chip worker.
  
  Luxon has managed large corporate businesses successfully. Adern was elected President of International Union of Socialist Youth.

    The Left have no qualms with strategic voting. There’s no reason the Right can’t do the same.

Whilst I initially had no problem with the full and final settlement of Maori treaty grievances (you need to invest money to solve the many Maori problems and treaty settlements killed two birds with one stone), the ongoing treaty industry is now nothing more than a farce.
      
      ACT’s policy of a TOW referendum could put the issue to bed and help us all move on to solving real problems with effective proven methods, e.g., Improving outcomes by providing rewards for learning to read/write; wrap around services to pull inter-generational criminals out of the mire; and early identification and intervention of troubled youths (the Dunedin study discovered that effective early intervention improves youth outcomes).
      
      Studies show that EFFECTIVELY investing money in solving the problems of the lower echelons, lifts the living standards of the whole country.

    There already is – the ACT Party. Remember however that many Kiwis have a social conscience and would be reluctant to vote for a party or potential coalition that swings too hard to the right. Their votes would go to Labour, Greens, NZ First, minor parties or they would not bother voting (ie effectively half a vote for Labour/ Greens).

Given the ructions in the US over the simple act of appointing a speaker, (Although it’s more complex over there given the rules on Presidential Sucession in that the Speaker becomes President if the President and Vice President cannot fulfill the office), Given that we will most likely see a change in Government this year, who would Kiwibloggers like to see as speaker?

The obvious candidate is Gerry Brownlee, but I wonder how someone like Judith Collins might perform in the role?

I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

      That’s led to multi-storey blocks on tiny sections with no off-street parking, and sometimes with difficult emergency access. No place for home EV recharging.
      
      If the national car fleet is overwhelmingly electrified, the policy Collins agreed to will cause chaos.
      
      It was a stupid move, and shielded Labour from blame for likely coming urban chaos from severe intensification.
      
      The intelligent thing would have been to stay quiet and watch.
      
      After that fuck-up, Collins shouldn’t be in Parliament.

        Collins probably supported housing intensification because its the right thing to do.
        Further sprawl just causes more traffic chaos and the productivity losses that causes.
        I personally dont agree with the no parking thing for 1 and 2 bedders in the tier one councils but I understand the economics of it.
        As for EV parking that will sort itself out in time. There is going to have to be MASSIVE works done IF our fleet does go electric but I think its a fair chance that autonomous/shared cars will be a thing for inner city dwellers and a lot of people just wont bother to own.

        Problem is BY that almost every aspect of government is broken in some way. Forget our issues with crime, education, local government and the ongoing shame of Oranga Tamariki, the mounting debt burden (mostly hidden) of Kainga Ora (truly scary), government debt generally, even usually boring-safe departments like Treasury, MFAT etc are struggling under this current government!
        
        If one were to construct a list of pressing issues, I think you’d struggle to keep it under 20!

Whilt I understand the angst surrounding Jacinda Adern’s dismal performance as Prime Minister, any assertion that Jacinda is running a clandestine marxist transformation project, or that Adern is secretly implementing the UN’s doctrines allots Adern more credit than she is capable of.

Jacinda Adern only has one goal (shared by many reading this blog) and that is to enrich herself. The difference between Adern and most of you is that Adern is willing to ruin the lives of millions of NZ Citizens to achieve her self enrichment (ironically the people who voted for her are most likely to be hit the hardest)..

The enrichment of the Maori King’s family at the expense of the NZ taxpayer is a perfect example. Enriching the Maori King’s family doesn’t help ordinary Maori.

The horrific Maori crime, poverty, ill health, suicide, child abuse, statistics will not have improved one bit (although Adern and her colleagues are busy skewing the statistics via cultural reports influencing charging and sentencing, reclassifying suicide as accidental death, and I even read police have to ring head office to seek permission to arrest a Maori).

None of these policies will aid Adern’s re-election – which is the typical goal of a politician.

The reason for the Maori King family’s good fortune will only be revealed with a forensic analysis of Maori and government accounts to discover where the billions of taxpayer money spent/wasted by Labour ends up. The audit may take the auditors to Tokelau.

    Loddenthinks, I can point out flaws or non-referenced opinions for every comment and indeed article on kiwiblog but what will that achieve? I’m basing my opinions on information I garner through reasonably extensive reading from many reputable sources but certainly do not have time to verify it all (just as you haven’t provided proof my comment is not true).
    
    However, the huge increase in the severity and occurrence of reported crime (think gun crime as an example) and the huge reduction in the prison population (traditionally over 50% of the prison population are Maori) suggests that my assertations aren’t too far off the mark.
    
    The reason I don’t nitpick is that I’m more interested in the over-arching themes and the solutions. e.g., the promise of a full published audit of public expenditure (including all organisations which received tax money over the last 5 years) could curtail largess and perhaps corruption over the next 12 months.
    
    Perhaps we can all work to improve the discourse by identifying problems then coming up with solutions rather than sniping?

      Surely those resourced with millions of dollars would be able to prove these people charlatans in very short order? Or are they totally incompetent?
      
      The best they have managed to come up with so far is smears, ad hominem and accusations of “mis/disinformation” without EVER explaining what exactly these things are.
      
      No, alt media is doing an extremely good job of destroying the fourth estate which long ago lost their way.
      The once proud field of journalism (with very few exceptions) has become an absolute joke. Journalists are now little more than poodles being spoon fed to produce whatever they are told to.

  The other take from this is how ECAN, after a failed safety check on 29/12 can’t organise a daily test follow up. Their next check was on 4/1 (according to the news report) – a week later. What would they care, it’s only the most popular time of the year for outdoor recreation! All their testing facilities are closed for Christmas – too bad for all the people who pay their rates and expect a service. It’s a pitiful response, and sackings should start from the top.

With all the hoohaa over potholes in roads and who is responsible for causing them, heavy vehicles are taking most of the blame (along with poor road management, inferior quality asphalt and lack of speedy response).
So it is worth noting that the average electric car is 200 to 300 Kg heavier than its internal combustion engine equivalent. This is because of the weight of the lithium battery, and the fact that the car underpinning has to be stronger (and therefore heavier) to cope with this additional battery weight.
I haven’t done a detailed analysis, but the NZ Car magazine car review summaries include vehicle weight, and when you scan them you will see the extra weight of the electric cars stand out.

  Note that the H (heavy) permitted 50 tonne capacity combination truck & trailer operating in NZ (still less than Australia/EU/USA/UK) requires (if I recall correctly) a 4 axle truck pulling 5 axle trailer totalling 32 wheels, or B train 3 axle tractor towing 2 x 3 axle trailers totalling 34 wheels, all fitted with anti-lock-brakes.
  That calculates as approx 1.6 tonnes per wheel.
  Also, H permitted vehicles are confined (again, as I recall) to specific roads, most (if not all) being designated SH1. This caters for bridge loadings.
  Someone (a Reg Civil Engineer) may be able to advise the min specs for SH1 load carrying capacity in foundation/base/top coarse/seal but I’d be surprised if it’s not at least 50% more than 1.6 tonnes per wheel over 9 axles.

The mega pack, on the back of a trailer, with multiple supercharging outlets attached, took down half of Baker station’s 40 stalls with it.

As it was put there to relieve a Tesla charging bottleneck – an unfortunate outcome.

Way back in the US, when the Communist party decided they would no longer compete in elections, they said (quite openly) their revised strategy would be to infiltrate the Democrat party fully and the Republican party as far as possible. I’m convinced they’ve succeeded in this ambition beyond their wildest dreams.

I’m also convinced the left in general has adopted similar tactics on a global basis, and NZ is no exception. We already know the Labour party has been infiltrated by the extreme left. This claim is quantified by the fact Ardern was a member of and led a defacto global communist group for ten years.

Helen Clark was a member of a similar group (The Internationale Socialist). Clark and speaker Margaret Wilson sang “The Internationale”, the one world government communist anthem on the parliament house piano the night she won govt in 1999.

I believe the National party has been likewise infiltrated, and although I used the term “plant”, “mole” is probably more accurate. Constantly hectoring about moving the party to the “far right, the extreme right”, or encouraging an appeal to the center is something such a mole would do.

DeSantis who won Florida with a record 20% margin never appealed “to the center”. Locally, Wayne Brown likewise won the Auckland mayoralty by an unassailable margin by being unfriendly to the woke media and rejecting progressive ideology.

As for Luxon and Willis (she stood on the steps of parliament with Grant Robertson and Jimmy Shaw and encouraged school kids to strike for climate justice) I’m only the messenger. They are convicted by their own words, and you can find them on my blog (especially the article “Willis is No Margaret Thatcher”) or on my Youtube channel. By their words you shall know them.

  BTW, your scenario is impossible because:
  1. No majority of the HoR would vote for Trump as speaker. One of the crazies has so far, that’s all.
  2. If elected speaker, Trump might not want to serve. he has a job already – running for president.
  3. Even if he agreed to serve as speaker, Trump would have no power to impeach anyone. The house could vote for impeachment, but the senate would not vote to convict.

Did Maori keep records of irregular weather patterns in this country in pre-colonial times?

Yes I know they had no written alphabet but oral and even pictorial history could have preserved some accounts of catastrophic weather events in NZ.

But I suppose we are never going to know because it doesn’t fit the woke narrative that the industrial revolution is to blame for global warming/ climate change.

I don’t know if any Kiwibloggers have been following the Transgender debate in Scotland and the UK. Scotland is in the process of passing a self identity law that is slightly less extreme than the NZ model. In Scotland there will be a 3 month holding period before you can change gender whereas I think in NZ you just need an internet connection. The debate is fierce with the UK Government threatening to pass a law that will the stop the Scottish law change. I was in discussion with a couple of people recently and they had no idea that someone in NZ can now change their sex with a simple online declaration. The NZ Government shut down the debate effectively so that I am sure many people in NZ are unaware of this extreme law change.

    I did, that is why I have a house in a Trust, two motor vehicles, two boats, paid off my ex Wife, some investments, and 2 holidays to Hawaii/Alaska. Some $50K on those holidays – we stayed in Lodges/Suites. All with no Credit Card (except for Hotel Bonds)
    Most places did not require is as the whole itinerary was pre paid through Flight Center.

So according to the CDC, the latest variant of concern, XBB.1.5 is apparently responsible for more than 40% or more of new infections.

As far as I am aware, we are vaccinating with something that was designed for Delta. Happy to be proven wrong on that. But even the updated “vaccines” are for up to variant BA.5

Variant BA.5 is only responsible for 3.7% of infections according to the CDC.

Delta up to BA.4 are credited with ZERO infections.

Even the Wall Street Journal is starting to ask questions regarding the role of “leaky” vaccines in driving more virulent and potentially deadly variants.
