  Saw a woman on TV news (only caught the end of it) stating that no teenager or young person should ever be incarcerated.
  Yet lowering the voting age to 16 is being advocated.
  Why have laws if we are going to pick and choose to whom they apply?
  There has to be some accountability for criminal activity in order to set an example to others who think they are special and laws don’t apply to them.

    The judiciary never really seem to care that the act of murder or crime against the victim was manifestly unjust! We’ve seen the same reluctance to impose mandatory sentences for a while now – this is by no means an isolated case and shows an increasingly activist judiciary in my opinion.
    
    While there is always some tension in any system between the lawmakers, parliament, and the judiciary, who I agree need to be independent, I do feel the current situation where judges routinely use avenues such as the ‘manifestly unjust’ argument to avoid handing out sentences they disagree with, one has to wonder if we’ve reached the point at which the judiciary is taking the ‘independent judiciary’ argument a tad too far?

    If these “young”people don’t do serious time how many other lives will they destroy while not incarcerated .
    Prison was once a place to keep dangerous people away from and to protect decent , law abiding citizens .

    If they’re trying to sell Chippy as a fresh new face, then they are implying Cindy was useless. ie. All the Bad Old Labour that has tanked in the polls was Cindy’s fault and goes down the pan with Cindy.
    
    If Cindy had quit when she was at the top of her popularity then they could have got away with it: Cindy has to quit because she has nothing left in the tank from being so awesome, she’s handing over the reigns to the equally competent Chippy.

Rain in Auckland useful reminder that a lot of Auckland CBD is reclaimed land and was sea in the 19 th century. Billions investment in Auckland CBD by those who know climate change is fraud. People generally know climate change is fake but go along with it because it’s the system. While the fools in govt are all in on the fraud.

    There was substantial reporting on the volume of rain compared to the previous times. If this was not the very worst in terms of volume, then it was certainly close. I don’t recall having rain like that in the past. Not in such a sustained way.
    Of course for some commenters here, they are absolutely convinced there iss no such thing as human induced climate change, and any measures to combat it are nothing more than a WEF/Davos socialist plot. Interesting in that the Davos crowd are mostly billionaires. Maybe their plan is socialism for everyone else, but not for them.🤔

      The volume of rain yesterday was biblical and none of the above had any idea what was coming and what to do when it did. Hell Waka Kotahi and Auckland Council all logged of work and went home in the middle of a disaster

      Of course Wayne the volume of rain could have something to do with the extra 20% of water vapour in the atmosphere due to the Tongan earthquake, but of course that’s only the opinion of a few highly qualified scientists.
      My experience , having dealt very closely with politicians, including your Nick Smith( who was very knowledgeable and smart) , is that most of them know very little of climate change science, nor do they seem to care.
      Mostly , as in Christchurch, they just shriek 2m SLR, and can never quote any scientific papers where they got this from.
      We need to listen to the science , not just the science that politicians and media find that suits there bias.
      Unfortunately it’s a difficult job as politicians and media are some of the highest paid jobs relevant to qualifications and intellect. This I’m sure you’re well aware of Wayne

    Our rain guage measured 230mm yesterday. Most of it would been from 3pm to 7pm. Most rain in a short period I’ve seen on the shore. Some water got into the garage but not major. Different story for some low lying parts.

Labo under Cindy said pause on immigration until infrastructure upgraded. However of course NZ was to be blackmail or tricked into accepting Maori control over infrastructure before anything could be done.

A lot of areas that flooded in Auckland have had decades long infrastructure under investment. Henderson well known drainage and water infrastructure issues. It’s a poorer area so govt says fuck it we need a Grey Lynn to Airport rail link for wankers. Wairau valley area into Forest Hill well known for flooding for years.

All the flooding made worst by appalling infill housing is using sewage systems from the 1950s. All the mistakes by govt cretins on full display. There is a long list of govt fuck ups. And just watch them over react next time when there is a little rain. But again these same people jaxxed everyone. It doesn’t really matter. Govt cretins.

  To clarify matters.
  Henderson is fucked over by all in power, especially local government, when lefties are in, they only favour South Auckland, when righties are in they ignore West Auckland.
  In fact Henderson area is a fucking disgrace of under investment. The hospital is at best a half built clinic, nearly all serious treatment means an ambulance ride to Takapuna FFS. Lincoln road is NZ’s busiest and most clogged etc. The kicker is Henderson is a working-class area, a shit load of money flows around here, many businesses are surprised that their Henderson branch is their highest turnover. And yet all this taxed income is stollen and used elsewhere.
  Wayne Brown had to flee a meeting in Henderson due to a hostile crowd.
  So it doesn’t surprise me that there is heavy flooding due to piss poor resourcing and half arsed bureaucracy.

Governments that coerced their people into taking the experimental mRNA genetic injections now have an enormous pachyderm reclining on the chaise lounge. Their problem is excess deaths, which appear to be soaring.

By way of example, Australia. Their governments, supported by an apparently compliant media don’t say much about excess deaths, but they do continue to give these data to the OECD who subsequently publish it.

The latest drop shows that 2022 excess deaths at a 5000% increase over 2020 when the pandemic was front and centre of every news outlet 24×7. Here is the alarming chart taken from the OECD data.

The defense of ‘correlation is not causation’ only exists because those guilty of this cull are the ones needed to authorise the investigation.

Suffice to say that the net life expectancy of my vaccination friends and family is now lower than it was two years ago. I’m NOT OK with that.

    G – yes, they did. But that was a short term outcome. Obviously if people aren’t moving around or doing things there are fewer ways to kill yourself in accidents either at home, work, outdoor activity or on the roads.
    
    It’s why the deceitful authorities in NZ used the data over the 3 years from 2020 to end of 2022 to claim reduced numbers of death compared to prior years.
    Almost as deceptive as Pfizer’s claim that their “vaccine” was 95% effective by only referencing the relative risk reduction. A meaningless number unless you include the absolute risk reduction. That number was 0.84%. Not quite as compelling when trying to sell a dodgy product to people.
    
    As for deaths, the numbers of excess deaths over normal in the last 9 months or so is very high.
    
    This correlates almost perfectly with the rollout of the vaccine and the boosters.
    No, not all excess deaths can be attributed to the vaccines, but there are more than enough alarms sounding to see this programme halted immediately while a full investigation takes place. The rest of the world is waking up and stopping jabbing, particularly those under 50. NZ is in complete denial.
    
    The negative impacts of lockdowns were always going to take a while to manifest, they are doing so now with bells on.
    The negative impacts of mandates and the crushing of small businesses, likewise. All coming home to roost as predicted.
    The worries of many around negative impacts of the vaccine were always going to take time to appear. There is a massive elephant in the room and we can’t ignore it for much longer.

Last night was a systemic failure of all major services in Auckland due to a lack of leadership and coordination. I was in the Elton John concert on the field. Water was ankle deep on the field.

The promoter obviously was looking for advice from
Emergency Services and MetService. The fact they cancelled at 7.15 was incredulous. This call should have been made at 5pm.

Then it took me 4 hours to get home to Takapuna. Waka Kotahi and all emergency information shut down. I got my information from Marcus Lush on Newstalk ZB due to members of the public ringing talkback and sharing information.

The state of emergency call came too late from Wayne Brown. Do we even have to mention Auckland Transport and their disgusting failure?

This was a monumental screw up which has cost one person a life, ruined multiple businesses and cost many people their livelihoods in a time when we are already in crisis.

I am absolutely disgusted with the incompetence across multiple agencies, councils and weather forecasters who were asleep at the wheel last night leaving Aucklands to fend for themselves.

A night of shame indeed.

  What we con do is build infrastructure that can cope with heavy rain , not build houses in areas that are liable to flooding and last but not least , if adverse weather is forecast plan accordingly.

    Being in construction, I read a bit now and again on the climate change industry as it relates to infrastructure.
    
    There are a few brave souls who venture a contrary opinion that should climate change be man made, rather than destroying western economies in an attempt to stop emissions, considering that the likes of China and India will continue to build coal power plants and the like and emissions will continue to rise regardless of what the western world does, the few contrarians have argued that shouldn’t investment be made in resilient infrastructure, coastal defence and, in extreme cases, coastal retreat?
    
    They argue that this adaption and resilience approach would be a far more pragmatic avenue to explore rather.
    
    Without exception, these individuals are hounded and attacked for daring to have a different opinion.

  The CCO of Watercare and Auckland Transport were supposedly to protect them from political interference. Actually they were created to protect the politicians from the public.
  There was an Auckland Council councilor on the news yesterday, basically saying the latest debacle was nothing to do with her and the council but she would be asking questions of AT.
  Logically, funds from the tram to airport should be diverted to sort out the city’s water issues so people are not trapped at the airport due to road flooding.
  They would rather spend money on underground trains, not underground pipes.

Given it was a long weekend and how long it takes to get everyone to get off the road safely at that hour, it seems extraordinary they didn’t act with a bit more caution.   We know the 2022 Tongan volcano eruption put a massive amount of water in the atmosphere (according to one or two NASA(?) articles people have posted here previously), so presumably this summers’ high rainfall for the North Island and last night’s massive downpours around the wider Auckland region are linked?
  
  If so expect more unusual rain patterns over the next few months/one or two years?
  
  Would like to see some effort from NZ’s weather and volcanology experts to better explain this phenomena to the public.
  
  And if the likes of the Green Party and Greenpeace keep rabbiting on about “climate change” then credibility wise they are only doing damage to their own brand, surely.

    There was a story the other day that some scientists in Peking think the earth’s core has stopped spinning /about to reverse . Apparently it works on some sort of 70 year cycle but they don’t really know.
    
    Two thoughts.
    
    Our “science” curriculum is going to tell pupils that science is a western concept , so what business is this of two Chinese scientists ( //) and
    
    science knows so relatively very little about the basic structures and processes of our tiny bit of space rock . But we’re always learning , adding to that body of knowledge ( but oh so westernly)
    
    The real problem with “science” and education is the Commies have got involved with their dangerous agenda .

        One of the takeaways from it is that sometimes, it’s a bit hard to just blithely say “the science is settled” when the scientists actually can’t agree. Who’s to say which scientists are correct, and which aren’t? This of course is one of the issues when the media decide to blindly accept one body of opinion in ANY area (*cough* climate change *cough*) even when there are other respected scientists saying something different.
        
        In research published in the journal Nature Geoscience on Monday, Yi Yang, associate research scientist at Peking University, and Xiaodong Song, Peking University chair professor, studied seismic waves from earthquakes that have passed through the Earth’s inner core along similar paths since the 1960s to infer how fast the inner core is spinning.
        
        What they found was unexpected, they said. Since 2009, seismic records, which previously changed over time, showed little difference. This, they said, suggested that the inner core rotation had paused.
        
        “We show surprising observations that indicate the inner core has nearly ceased its rotation in the recent decade and may be experiencing a turning-back,” they wrote in the study.
        
        So this associate research scientist and professor have interpreted the data in one way. However …
        
        However, the speed of this rotation, and whether it varies, is debated, said Hrvoje Tkalcic, a geophysicist at the Australian National University, who was not involved in the study,
        
        “The inner core doesn’t come to a full stop,” he said.
        
        And this geophysicist has a different way of interpreting the data.
        
        I’m no scientist, so far be it from me to say who’s right and wrong. But isn’t it interesting that two different scientists can look at studies and data and come to two different conclusions?

So perhaps the priority for Councils (and Govt) should be to fix-up existing stormwater systems, start building new ones and come up with other measures to protect housing, CBD’s etc (eg start raising stop banks or providing new channels for water to overflow etc)?
    
    This would seem to be a practical and smart to deal with the so-called “climate emergency” … rather than diverting $millions to “green measures” like altering city streets to cater for cycleways, putting in speedbumps, slowing down the speed limit, spending up on Council/Ministry electric car fleets, Ute taxes to fund EV’s for the wealthy etc!

Waka Kotahi’s 500 person social media team signed off at 7pm last night in the middle of the biggest disaster on a state highway network in last few years. Cars blocked/stuck on flooded motorways and the team of kindergarten kids obviously needed to get to some bars in Wellington instead of doing their jobs

PM Chris Hipkins spoke to the Herald’s Claire Trevett about his plans for Three/5 Waters. He speaks of a reset and bringing everyone along, so is he planning a great big consultation/delay? Here is a transcript of the relevant part:

Q: Do you think that Three Waters has become something emblematic of that (feeling of too many reforms at once)? Opposition to that has now become so entrenched – more entrenched and widespread than you would think for what amounts to basically rejigging the way water infrastructure is funded and trying to make it cheaper more economical?

Hipkins: So look we acknowledge there is some baggage with that. Some of that came bcause you know it collided with the local government election and people were looking for a platform for the local government campaign.
The issues around co-governance I think have been poorly understood and that has created some anxiety as well.
But the case for change remains incredibly strong. If you look at the scale of infrastructure investment that is required and the potential effect that’s going to have on household budgets as a result of rates increases, I think government does need to take that seriously. I don’t think we can wash our hands and say this is a problem for local government to deal with. They don’t have the size, the scale or the funding to be able to do that.
So you know our water infrastructure is really poor. Look at the amount of water that is being lost in the Wellington region on a daily basis because of leaks in the pipes at a time we are also saying to people you can’t water your garden or wash your car because we don’t have enough water. And yet we are pouring water literally into nothing.

Q: But is the (final) change the one you guys are now doing?

Hipkins: We are going to look closely at the Three Waters program. There is no question there has to be change. I don’ think we can sit back and say this is not our problem, it’s a council problem. I don’t think that would be responsible. I don’t think a responsible government would do that.
But we also need to bring people along with us in what we are doing. So I think we will need to reset our work around Three Waters. I don’t want to speculate on what that might look like but I absolutely acknowledge that there is anxiety about it out there and we need to make sure that we are communicating exactly what we are doing and why we are doing it.

But of course that old be a lot less sexy than, say, light rail to the airport.   There is a simple fix to Wgton’s water leaks – introduce charging meters and charging, with equal reduction to rates. Kapiti did it years ago andwater use fropped as people saw a return for fixing leaks etc.

It seems the Govt/Media Nudge Unit wants you to pay your school donations and are going to shame label and divide anyone who doesn’t. Rinse and repeat it is the same methods they use to get us to comply with the vaccines.

Household budgets are going to be tiiiiiiiight as inflation and mortgage rates sky rocket and i would imagine that donations will be further down the priority list.

The nudge unit appears to be front footing it with an article entitled “Fear and loating of free – riding families who don’t pay school donations”.

I pay my school donations and am in a position to do so but what struck me was the venom, name calling and hate int he headline.

Just like “anti vax” they’ve created a label for people to think about you if you don’t pay – you’re now a “free-loading family”. It’s not disappointing or problematic for the schools, people are being encouraged to “fear and hate” you!

This is a disgusting headline and we’re not falling for it. It is ultimately a ‘DONATION” . Not a fee. If you can’t pay your mortgage, your tax, put food on the table then you might be rethinking the donation. I won’t be name calling you or excluding you.

The govt funded media’s abuse is more powerful, has greater reach, than anything coming from social media and boy do they like to whip up hate and divide.

The media/govt no longer write articles convincing you in a positive manner why you should pay your donation they use hard core social division and military style group coercion tactics. It’s not ok.

    Chris Hipkins was questioned in Parliament a couple of days ago and he waffled around umming and ahhing, restarting his sentence several times, and eventually just said very confidently that Christopher Luxon doesn’t know what co-governance is either. Willie Jackson’s Pravaganda RNZ-TVNZ merger
Auckland University academic Sir Peter Gluckman, who previously served as the Government’s chief science adviser, has given the planned merger of TVNZ and RNZ a fail.
…Gluckman said it was disappointing that [a select committee recommended] law change would still establish the new entity as an “autonomous Crown entity”, which is a type of entity that must have regard to government policy when directed by its responsible minister. – Stuff

Broadcasting Minister Willie Jackson cited “restoring trust in the media” as being the reason for merging RNZ and TVNZ, but –

“If the public is to place their trust in the entity that will replace TVNZ and RNZ, they need to be in no doubt that it is independent from any potential political interference.
“The bill still has a long way to go before that is achieved,” [Gluckman] said.

This will be the first policy ditched by a desperate Chris Hipkins, in a bid to stem the tide of discontent with his Government.

Nanaia Mahuta deliberately omitted a meeting with Green MP from her ministerial diary, because the topic being discussed was the entrenchment of the Three Waters legislation. This was explained away at the time as a mistake, when it is clearly anything but, and is part of a pattern of Mahuta picking and choosing which meetings she discloses.

Cranmer concludes by saying:

These diary omissions are not inconsequential or isolated oversights. They are deliberate actions designed to frustrate the good governance of ministers and officials. Mahuta is dishonest and entitled. She should be sacked without hesitation.

Chris Hipkins has a decision to make. Will he do what is right and proper, and run the risk of being one of New Zealand’s shortest-ever tenured Prime Minister? Or will he, like Jacinda Ardern before him. take the path of least resistance? It is a decision which could define his political career.

A few months ago the Learned Justices of the NZ Supreme Court spoke in favour of lowering the voting age in NZ to 16 years. The Green Party of Aotearoa has called for an immediate action of this issue, which was also strongly supported by the Greatest Prime Minister in NZ history.
Fair enough, their inalienable human rights take supreme precedence, apart from which… “I was 16 in 2020, which was probably one of the most consequential elections in our lifetime – and issues that mattered to me about mental health, climate change and the state of our democracy were things that I was not able to have a say in,” as one of so affected human rights campaigners and “Make it 16’s”co-founder, one Sanat Singh publicly stated.

But…someone has just thrown a proverbial spanner into the works. That someone is another Learned Trio, this time from the NZ Court of Appeal. The Learned Justices from that Temple of Themis decided that the life sentences given to three teenage murderers are to be quashed as unjust. One of the reasons given for this by the said August Body, was as follows:
“The ruling stated sentences could be deemed manifestly unjust not only because of an offender’s youth and lack of brain development(…)”.

Youth and lack of brain developments. Hmmm…me says…
Perhaps not only the “youth” suffer from the latter affliction?

  Human development is a complicated process. Children mature at different rates and in different stages. ‘Adolescent’ is a term for a fairly mature child not yet accorded full status as an adult.
  There is no magic moment at which a person can be regarded as an adult. Possibly reflecting this, our laws recognize different ages for different types of responsibilities and privileges. Understanding this, perhaps you could also understand why a threshold for eligibility to vote might sometimes not be the same as the threshold for suffering the severest sanctions of the criminal law.
  A few other examples might help – such as comparing ages for compulsory schooling, eligibility to join the armed forces, etc – but we needn’t get into too complicated a discussion.

A mother who believes a pothole caused her son’s death wants the country’s roads improved before anyone else loses a loved one as she has.

Steph Pukepuke’s son Thomas died in October on the Kaimai Ranges, driving home after helping family shift furniture.

Hamilton-based Pukepuke said police told her it appeared his car blew a tyre in a pothole, making him lose control, cross the centreline and crash into another vehicle.

I’ve read it a couple of times now that Damien O’Connor will ensure that the emissions level on farmers will be as low as possible.
The lowest possible levy is zero, so farmers will be rapt if that’s what happens.
I think O’Connor doesn’t actually mean what he says.

I’m pondering the parade of politicians to the annual Ratana festival. This has been going on for yonks, and so I suppose it has some semblance of tradition now. And, of course, tradition makes it all okay. And, of course, representatives of all political hues make sure they’re in at the fest.
But I’m also thinking of the time that Don Brash was excoriated for spending some time chatting to the Brethren.
Hmmm. Ratana okay; Brethren not okay. (Don, perhaps you should have invited the other parties to be in on the discussion too.) Actually, why is Ratana okay when government doesn’t front up en masse to any other religious gathering?

  They are dealing with a hostile audience that don’t want them there, borderline hate them and are never, ever going to listen to them or ever consider voting for them. Most importantly the attendees are mostly out-of-touch elites, middle class luvvies or rent-a-mob protesters with little in common with most Kiwi’s. Why bother going?

Does anyone think that this flood in Auckland (awful as it is) could provide a handy opportunity for Mr Hipkins to display Ardern-style heroics and wonderfulness of leadership?
Will he be touring round suburbs in gum boots, hi-viz jacket, looking at damage, hugging folk, patting dogs and offering financial help?
Come election time, the media will be praising his “empathy and kindness during a time of crisis” just like Jacinda-our-Saviour.
Or am I being unduly cynical?

I was out an about in last nights deluge.
A pizza run around the back of no tree hill to feed people at a staff function, and then the trip home via the office as we had a bit of a flood due to road run-off making its way into our office building.
Lakes in places i expected to see ponding, Ponding in places i didnt expect to see ponding – Manukau Road, the upper reaches of Greenlane west, run off pouring out of walls driveways and cross streets. Eden park no2 underwater, The local rugby club ground the same. Cars abandoned and underwater.
My car managed to keep on going when others didnt, although in a couple places there was some sideways action in cross currents.
Spent the morning clearing out the water from the office and going back tomorrow to repeat the process. even once the bulk of the water is removed it will be a bastard to dry the place completely. and we are only a small office.
Thousands of others in the same boat. not a good start to the weekend.

Like there used to be compulsory 3rd-party insurance for motor vehicles.

    Because I subscribe to the idea that people should take responsibility for themselves and not rely on someone else coming to their rescue all the time.
    You do not buy a house ( or rent a house ) and fill it with stuff without considering that something bad could happen.
    Everyone has heard about insurance.
    Basic cover is not expensive.
    It is time for everyone in this country to front up to their responsibilities and stop sucking on the welfare tit.
    
    In a 1959 speech, party leader and Prime Minister Keith Holyoake encapsulated the conservative and liberal principles of the National Party:
    
    “We believe in the maximum degree of personal freedom and the maximum degree of individual choice for our people. We believe in the least interference necessary with individual rights, and the least possible degree of state interference. ”
    He perhaps should have added ” and the least possible dependence on the state” to that last sentence.

In an act that could be best described as sabotage, Cindy vandalised Auckland maliciously during the Covid hoax. It was cruel.

I suspect that this was part of the socialist grand plan to turn New Zealand into the the Socialist Republic of Aotearoa.

Obviously, the centrepiece of such a socialist State needs to be a dreary hellhole called the “socialist model city”. Auckland, a city in crisis, seems to have been chosen by Cindy and friends for special treatment – although admittedly every city in NZ is a mess.

Sadly, these floods come on top of the Covid vandalism. There was always going to be short and long term consequences from hysterically destroying society and the economy during the Covid hoax.

I underestimated how much damage Cindy and her collaborators could do to NZ in a few short years. Our economy and society have been burnt to the ground. It is sad to see.

I fear for New Zealand’s future. The Team of $55 million are furiously trying to get these vandals re-elected. Even if they fail, National / ACT will face a desolate country, if and when they win power.

The Ginger Hipster failed to fix anything when the going was good. The storm clouds will continue, at least in a metaphorical sense, over our country for years to come…

Things will get worse before they get better…

  @Cake… I often wonder how much NZ better off NZ would have been, if labour had stayed in bed and done nothing over the last 5 years. The BILLIONS spent/wasted is unbelievable.
  No one seems to be able point to even one successful planned and executed policy.

I’ve just watched the press conference with Chris Hipkins and Wayne Brown.

The media basically turned the entire conference into a witch hunt over why Wayne Brown didn’t start engaging on social media while he was trying to co-ordinate his council and emergency services to save lives during an unprecedented natural disaster in this country’s largest city.

These people are completely mental.

How many people are going to die as a result of rioting due to video of (black) cops beating (black) Tyre Nichols to death? How many 100’s of millions in damages?

What is the right way to deal with it to minimize harm? Personally I think put draconian response measures in place now, smash the shit out of any rioters, and allow highly policed daytime protests this weekend.

Of course, in some ways this is like watching athletes from the past, and realising what was head and shoulders the elite performers back in the day, are no longer top of the tree today. Better diets, training methodologies and so forth mean that modern athletes are often faster, stronger and better than their equivalents from times gone by.

So it is with the sport of gurning. In my opinion, as great as Anne Woods was in her time, for me, she has been overshadowed by Aotearoa’s own great gurner.

Now that Cindy has resigned, I think that it is only right that we discuss her legacy. In one respect, Cindy is amongst the very best in the world.

When I asked women over the past five years why they joined the Cindy cult, they explained that they did this because Cindy was so empathetic. I replied to them with a long list of examples of Cindy’s cruelty, thinking that this would show them that their claim was false. They eventually explained that in judging the empathy of Cindy, actual actions were completely unimportant. After the volcano killed those people, or after the terrorist attack, Cindy showed her empathy, by her expressions. Cindy’s face was so sad. They knew that she was really sad, because of the extreme face pulling Cindy performed.

This had me confused. Sure, Cindy dressed in the hajib, and slo-mo hugged people, and came up with some catchy phrases. Did this tragedy theatre really amount to empathy?

I closely watched some of Cindy’s performances. Sure enough, she was amazing. Her forehead was simply incredible. Cindy frowned, with a spectacle that reminded me of the famous waves at that Hawaiian surfing beach. Skyscraper sized waves rolled across over her forehead, threatening to consume her, in quite remarkable fashion. Cindy’s lips have a life of their own. Most people’s lips are connected, but Jacinda seems to be able to move different sections of her lips independently, both vertically and horizontally, in a surreal but interesting dance. She can angle her lips sharply down, producing the saddest face I’ve ever seen.

Cindy’s head also rocks, one way, then the other. Watching her, sometimes I had to grab the armrests for support. My head starts to tip the same way as Cindy, so I can keep my equilibrium. Then Cindy’s head moves again – ducking and diving, bobbing and weaving, like a young Joe Frazier. The effect is like being in a small boat, in choppy water. Most of all, Cindy Ardern has quite extraordinary control and flexibility of her rubbery face, which she can contort into almost any shape.

Cindy has now resigned, and the Ginger Hipster is now in charge of the tragedy theatre. He has huge shoes to fill.

So far, I’m afraid, he’s not doing so well. His expressions are a bit vanilla. His gurning is not even close to Cindy’s exceptional standard. Cindy is from Venus, Hippy is from Upper Hutt. It’s not going well for him.

Perhaps he needs to compensate by using some catchphrases. What about copying “They are us”. Maybe adapt the phrase slightly, after vandalising Auckland during the Rona. “They are us, except when they might be carrying the plague, and then they are locked away for three months”. Okay, its not as catchy as Cindy’s original version…

Look, I don’t want to be over critical of Hippy, but there’s also the clothes he wears. Cindy always came with the correct attire to a tragedy. In this case, she might come in a scuba outfit, or an emergency services outfit, or some such thing. Cindy’s wardrobe was flexible, like her face. Hippy was wearing a business suit…

Perhaps Labour should beg Cindy to come back? All is now forgiven?

The Interislander ferry has reportedly lost power on the Cook Strait and an emergency has been declared according to a Stuff reporter on board the ferry.

The ferry lost power about 5pm and staff were handing out lifejackets.

Every local body has an Emergency Manager, and they are the ones who decide the level of response, the degree of emergency and the times of response.
Give the guy a break, lefties, after all you are the overwhelming numbers of employees in local bodies.

“Stop climate from changing” a Victoria Uni scientist says in Newstalk ZB. Hmm how prey tell does little old NZ do that? This was a weather event, probably made worse by infrastructure issues, etc.

Victoria University climate scientist Professor James Renwick said.
“But we’re going to see more of these events, unless we can get on top of emissions and stop the climate from changing.

I saw this quote, sums it up…

It is impossible to find any hard facts about the extent of the damage to Auckland; where it is, how it affects eg getting to hospital or work, but there seem to be plenty of human interest stories and political hit-jobs. Have journalists lost the ability to report facts?

Mr Wayne Brown is the mayor of Auckland.
He has his own style of leadership in a crises which involves having no communication with the public at large and on the ground.
Some councilors and local MPs have been out there organizing and helping people in strife.
It wasn’t until later on last night that the Mayor surfaced and declared a state of emergency.
Even Chris Luxon said the state of emergency was much too late and he backs an inquiry to the response.
If a left winger had acted in this manner they would have been roasted alive on this forum.

  Wayne Brown had the Civil Defence advisor at the fiasco and when Brown asked him if he had timely advice, the adviser stated that as soon as he had advised the Mayor, a State of Emergency was declared.
