As is already happening, the East Coast floods are being blamed on climate change. Are they worse than Bola? How about the 1938 event? In the latter event, the river returned to its original channel along Petane River through Bayview into the dried out Ahuriri lagoon. https://hwe.niwa.co.nz/event/February_1938_Eastern_North_Island_Flooding
The photos of flooding in the Esk Valley then look more than the current event. In another catchment, 21 workers died when their camp got washed away. More forgotten deaths.
And note that two months after that, there was bad flooding in Taranaki, Manawatu, Marlborough, Canterbury https://hwe.niwa.co.nz/event/April_1938_New_Zealand_Flooding
Lucky there were no SUVs then.
New Zealand regularly gets very heavy rain events. This may be the biggest one in almost everyone’s memory, but it wasn’t unprecedented (I’m looking at you, James Shaw). They kill people. And we don’t spend enough money hardening our infrastructure or maintaining our river systems to minimise flooding damage. Instead it is spent on fripperies. Until that attitude changes, we will continue to have these bad consequences. Blaming climate change is just a shirking of responsibilities. Building more windmills will never stop flooding.

        I’m sure that people have this idea that going ‘carbon neutral’ is maybe a bit expensive, but achievable, and we’ll all be living similar lives to what we do now. Nirvana!
        This will not be what happens if we start making serious attempts to go carbon neutral.
        We are already seeing policies being put in place to restrict our movement – flights being cancelled, 15 minute cities, ULEZ zones in London, restrictions on the types of vehicles we can buy, restrictions on the types of fuel we can use to generate electricity. People are already going cold in places like UK and Germany. Cheap renewable electricity is resulting in massive energy price increases. Taxpayer money wasted on virtue signalling that could be better spent on making our lives better.
        Life will not be as pleasant, or as free, as what we enjoy now.
        The f#ckers pushing this upon us freely admit that they have no idea what effect it will have on the climate. I suspect it’s worse than that and they know it will have an immeasurable effect (at best) on the climate.

        It’s quite possible the world could go into a long period of significant cooling (like for decades or even centuries). It’s happened before. The climate cultists will keep denying with their spin machine, until the frozen granny bodies pile up every winter and absolutely nobody can deny it. Then all that bloody idiotic piss weak and stupidly expensive renewables crap will have to be abandoned and even more money will have to be spent suddenly digging up coal, fracking for gas and building nuclear plants.

  NZ is not alone in the insanity of building infrastructure in unsuitable areas, with known natural risk factors (e.g. especially regular seasonal slippage and flooding).
  
  Until our politicians, councils and developers take a more pragmatic view of the world, the same misery to everyday people will just continue.
  
  I also find the hypocrisy of our current government’s world view quite astounding. On one hand they incentivise EVs whilst offering disincentives to vehicles like UTEs (try getting around Hawkes Bay in a Tesla now), but don’t offer any incentives for installing domestic solar generation. Why?
  
  At the same time our authorities offer ridiculous approvals to build vast new residential developments (including State housing) on known flood risk areas. Best example recently being in South Auckland where this council mapping shows the true flood risks. Our media then reports people swimming in 2-3m of water in their driveway, and cries “climate change”

  I lived in Malaya. We got heavy rain frequently. The drain beside my quarters was 4 feet deep. No flooding, ever. In NZ we have antiquated drains, build beside rivers and on flood plains and wonder why disaster strikes.

      Actually Malaya morphed into Malaysia and is very much into 3 Waters – Malays get preference for all sorts of things. But that hasn’t stopped them using common sense (and Chinese and Indian engineers) to ensure that the monsoon is respected.

        The quality of roading engineering in NZ isn’t good. WDC contractors we’re widening our local road and put a dish drain down the side that wouldn’t hold a shower.
        That won’t work I said, whatever said the crew. A few months later after the side of the road ripped out, the ask me if I can take the remains of the dish drain.
        Even now the culvert design on the road means they are blocked off before the heaviest rain hits.

    We were in Suva 1974 to 77
    
    Sometimes you could hear the rain coming. We used to watch the school grounds across the road from us go under water in 10/15 minutes at times.
    
    One day I had to take my shoes and socks off and wade about 30 yards through knee deep water in Central Suva to get back to work after lunch. Just drizzle when I left an hour before and all gone about an hour later.

      Yea, all the water drains into Nabukalou Creek which drains into the sea and keeps downtown Suva pretty dry. There’s also a bloody big storm drain next to the Grand Pacific Hotel that takes all the stormwater from Govt House Grounds and drains into the sea.

  Both problems are bigger now as a result of climate denialism.
  
  We might have started reducing GHG emissions 40 years ago – the oil company scientists had been reporting the consequences of burning fossil carbon for years – had the oil companies not succeeded in duping the public.

    Ok Doc, If Gabrielle was caused by climate change/ variability/ catastrophe because of increased concentration of greenhouse gases, what was Bola? Why were there three big floods in 1938? Why was the biggest recorded flood on in the Buller in the 1920s (when they had 3 massive floods in 4 years)?
    That is why James Shaw and fellow travellers like you are not very clever. There is one answer, no matter what the situation or the contrary facts. Go back to Popper or Feynmann defining theories vrs results. Greenhouse gas concentrations being the major cause of the current extreme weather events are a fail.

    Flood levels where on what river? The Hawkes Bay Catchment Board 1988 report on Bola states the flooded rivers as 1 in 5 to one in 30 year events. The report actually has the water gauge readings in it for all the rivers

    Printing has been cheap in China, and many publishers have been getting books manufactured there.
    
    British publishers have been censoring books to suit the Communist Chinese Government. The most obvious case has been removing references to Taiwan or Taiwanese.
    
    Chinese printers have also warned publishers in Britain and America about books containing references to Xinjiang (land of the Uighurs) or to Covid-19 originating in China.

  Did the students ask for this? Is it helping with their enrollments?
  
  Or is it more box ticking for senior management to ingratiate themselves with the Ministry of Education (and the Labour Govt), furthering funding and furthering career prospects?
  
  If it’s the former, then sure, great.
  
  If it’s the latter, what are the opportunity costs? What’s in it for the wider student cohort (and the sole reason why such institutions exist) and the successful teaching of their studies?
  
  Thing is, this will be coming to educational (and health and justice etc) entities everywhere.
  
  All under a Labour Govt (so expect a lot more if election 2023 sees a Labour/Greens/Maori Party govt).
  
  Does ACT and National have the same or different views?
  
  Particularly on Govt Ministries and institutions re-interpreting historical aspects of the Treaty into today’s world. Can only be happening because it is sanctioned by the Ministries, which are controlled by the Govt.

    It is a very important read. It is a surprise that it is in Stuff.
    
    The important part of the read is that this particular volcano was under water so what was spewed out into the atmosphere was water and water vapour. ALL scientists agree that water vapour is a greenhouse gas. It is stated that there is a possibility that the earth’s surface temperature will rise by 0.1 of a degree C.
    
    What happens with your normal volcanoes (Ruapehu, Pinutabo, Krakatoa etc) is dust particles are fired up into the atmosphere and this shields the earth from heat from the sun and so the Earth’s temperature will drop.
    
    Understanding is everything.

        Ghost – it’s one of those astonishing things to me. How people had blind faith in this thing.
        
        When the covid narrative began I was curious as to how they would manage to rush a new “vaccine through”. I’d had all previous shots up to then in my life, including an updated tetanus in the year before the circus began. But I had a bit of a nagging doubt about what appeared undue haste.
        
        While doing a bit of research I came across the story about Pfizer and their world record fine for fraud and lying about their products. That alarmed me and I dug further. It was this process that led me to become vehemently opposed to THIS “vaccine” and of course, all of the associated attacks on freedom and human rights.
        
        I am thankful I looked. I tried to make friends and relatives aware of the horrific record of these pharmaceutical companies but the vast majority didn’t seem to see a problem.

    Bookmark this, it’s a handy reminder. I can’t recommend it enough. The explanation about how useless the PCR test was is spectacular on it’s own.
    
    During an interview by Julia Hartley-Brewer, Matt Hancock firmly stated that the PCR tests were exceptionally accurate and had a false positive rate of 1% or less, which he then incorrectly described as meaning that if 200,000 tests are performed each day and 2,000 people test positive, that this means only 20 will be false positives. His error was to infer false positives are a percentage of the positive test results when they are actually a percentage of the overall number of tests performed. As one professor pointed out in written evidence to the Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee Data Transparency and Accountability panel, if 200,000 tests are performed with a test that produces 1% false positives, that would mean 2,000 false positives would be produced – an amount equal to the 1% of the population at the time that were known to have Covid-19. Therefore in Matt’s example, 4,000 people in total would test positive and 50% of those would be false positives.
    
    What all this means, and as prominent academics have also pointed out using published data from a 2020-2021 Cambridge University study of asymptomatics, is that where an individual received a positive test result for Covid-19 there was at best only a 20.5% chance that they actually had the virus. When compared and contrasted to the official UK Office of National Statistics (ONS) estimate that 1 in every 141 people in Cambridge had the virus, the Cambridge University data showed that in fact only 1 in every 4,967 asymptomatic people tested in Cambridge was confirmed positive. UK Government representatives like Matt Hancock had not only exaggerated the accuracy of PCR tests beyond credibility, they were also inflating the ‘case’ numbers of infected people. The punch line was that the Cambridge University study had unintentionally shown through confirmatory testing that a significantly higher 84% of positive test results were false positives.

Woman on the Countdown checkout yesterday. She mentioned NZ infrastructure in a bad way. So I mentioned electricity. Nothing is being built to cater for all of the EVs.
She agreed. Then I told her there is only one way. clean efficient Nuclear. Shit she nearly fell over. She is stuck in the Chernobyl days. Tried to explain heating units the size of 4 kitchen fridges. When it is spent it goes for refining and a new one takes its place. The steam turbine and generator stay.
Nope, she was not having a bar of it. “Next year you are buying an EV right” Good luck charging it on your carless days”
I think I planted a seed for her to think about.

      Steve is referring to Small Modular Reactors, of which one, NuCor, has just been approved by the NRC:
      
      Small modular reactors have been promoted as avoiding many of the problems that have made large nuclear plants exceedingly expensive to build. They’re small enough that they can be assembled on a factory floor and then shipped to the site where they will operate, eliminating many of the challenges of custom on-site construction. In addition, they’re structured in a way to allow passive safety, where no operator actions are necessary to shut the reactor down if problems occur.
      
      What’s not mentioned in that article is that when they’ve used up their nuclear fuel the entire SMR is pulled out and sent back to the same factory for disassembly, refurbishment and refueling.

        Almost every power project in NZ has had its capital cost “written off” insofar as it’s been paid for by the taxpayer.
        
        Yet we still have power companies wanting to build generation. What do they know that you don’t? Obviously they won’t be able to magically write it off and the capital expenditure will have to be paid off through income generated from that investment.
        
        Trouble is, they are not allowed to build such capacity due to the expensive and usually insurmountable environmental regulations that year upon year keep supply steady while demand increases resulting in inflated electricity prices.
        
        Get the Greens (and the National Party Teals) out of the way and nuclear power would not even be under discussion. The irony is the more inflated our power prices become the more viable a nuclear plant becomes.

      NZ has uranium but only small samples. Found in the South Island by tow piss pot prospectors. Most rocks or minerals are radioactive. I have a lot of rocks. Cut them up or carve them and polish them. When I go outside at night and touch something that is earthed, I light up shiny green.
      Australia have shitloads, but they have no reactors. Same as NZ, the weirdos come out.
      Chernobyl was 1986, that was 37 years ago. It will take another two generations before we wake up that we have power rationed.

        The Lucas Heights reactor is one of only 70 reactors worldwide that are capable of producing much-needed medical radioisotopes. It also produces material or carries out analyses for the mining industry, for forensic purposes and for research.

  People keep saying Hipkins has done wonderful in this disaster, he flies into HB daily, gets photos in gumboots and NEMA clothing, tells us it’s bad, tells us the roads are in the wrong place then flies off, there are 5 other parts of the country that are suffering bad, Northland is cut off snd parts have no comma, not a dicky bird.

Having worked extensively in the Indian Ocean, Before satellite based warning systems, You needed to have a good understanding of Meteorology.

Information was mostly relayed by vessels transiting and forcasting was really left to the ship. This left a lot of holes in recording in weather forcasts where ships were infrequently sailed.

More so in Stn Hemisphere where I have found myself in quite a few times in the way of a Tropical Revolving Storm that was un announced.

In my view the reason for a lot of the carnage on the East Coast/ Hawkes bay is not due to climate change but infrastructure neglect.

I know its not much consolation for the thousands of people who have lost their homes, lively hoods, and even loved ones but could better roads, bridges, and drainage have reduced the impact of the floods?

Ardern and the Greens for the last 5 years have simply been all talk about the dangers of ‘future’ climate change and done little in the ‘present’ to deal with it.

Of course I do not subscribe to man made climate change theory but do believe in ‘natural’ extreme weather events which we have experienced recently.

  The volume of the water in the Esk Valley and Puketapu meant there was no way to stop it. And there was too much water to funnel it anywhere. All that could have been done was a mass evacuation sooner.
  
  The issue is building on flood plains. Wonderfully productive land but it comes with risk.
  
  It looks like a lot of the destroyed bridges on the east coast might have survived if there hadn’t been vast volumes of slash stuck against them. And with them went the Gisborne water supply, east coast fibre optic cables and highway access. Operational practices will be in the spot light.
  
  The obvious infrastructure shortcoming was the Napier substation. Transpower was working towards better protecting it. Hopefully now they will move it, rather than improve it. I don’t have much faith in the 1 in 250 year storm it was designed for, as I expect major storms will become more frequent, more energetic and carry more rain.

    I think you have have given a pretty good overview.
    While the forestry slash undoubtedly has had a big impact, and is front and centre as the perceived cause of much of the damage, I think that time will show that the truth is a bit more complex.
    The vast bulk of slash is made up of small pieces. Stuff that would flush through without causing tructural damage. The problem is the large bits that catch on a structure and then catch the smaller bits, building up the weight.
    
    There are definitely larger cut logs in the debris, but even these are relatively hard to catch. The stuff that often starts the problem is trees with branches that catch easily. Branched trees tend not to be commercial forestry waste but either natives or willows and poplars growing on the river banks.
    
    A complete solution is going to need to look at all aspects, including the concept of managing riparian and erosion plantings.
    
    It is worth remembering that forestry was the solution to the damage caused by cyclone Bolar. With that it was the erosion and silt that was the big issue.
    
    Silt is probably going to be a bigger issue in the mid term than the slash/bridge one (though that is the immediate big problem).
    
    There is going to be an opportunity to compare the impacts of Bolar with this event to see whether the forests have reduced or worsened things overall. It is entirely possible that it is a mixed result. My guese is worse for infrastructure (bridges) and in the flood plains, but better in the wider catchments.
    
    Hopefully an educated plan will be the result

        That is a great example of the opposite of an educated plan.
        
        Native bush gets knocked over by storms and slips in to waterways too when it gets to mature tree levels. It is not usually a big news item as it has tended to be in remoter areas and not income generating land, but replace the pines with Bush in these areas and you will eventually end up with a different type of still destructive debris washing down.
        
        The real issue is that the underlying geology means that you will always be having issues regardless of whether it is pasture, Bush, commercial forest or commercial manuka/kanuka. Put enough rain on and, once it penetrates to the underlying papa you will get slips.
        
        In the gfc it was the forestry industry that was one of the few export types that kept performing consistently (and do helped keep the economy afloat).
        
        The same industry has roading machinery that is already being offered (and used) in the recovery- so part of the problem but also part of the solution. Available machinery is going to be one of the big parts of the recovery process.
        
        After Bola the farming industry was the target of all the negative emotion because of the historical clearance of steep land.
        
        Hopefully we can get past that type of over simplistic, emotion based mind set this time.
        
        Yes, slash is an issue, but silt has damaged much bigger areas and will have the larger long term impact (chronic to the slash acute). Some of the silt will be from cutover sites for sure, but it would be a brave prediction to say that high country pasture areas and native bush have not also been sources of much silt as in previous incidents.

        Hey, Apologies NMTB, I was harsh in my first comment.
        
        Native bush does form part of a sensible solution, as may either a reduction or a re-think on location of pines.
        
        What I really should have said is that the solution needs to be more comprehensive than that.
        
        Pines have their place. They helped save the remains of the native forest by providing an alternate timber source in the past, and they currently generate export earnings that will be much needed in the recovery phase. The industry also employs a lot of people, so it is not all bad.
        
        Problems to be sure, but I am keen to avoid throwing the proverbial baby out with the bathwater.
        
        One thing to consider is what the damage to the back country catchment area would have been if it was still unforested like with Bola. I flew over that Gisborne area 12 months later, it was a memory of grey slips with a few patches of grass for mile after mile.
        It may be that the forest has either made it worse, not helped or helped, but we don’t have that picture yet.

        We are going to need money money and more money to fix this and work towards the future.
        Industries that earn are GOOD but that dosent mean that forestry should be allowed to leave slash in vulnerable situations.
        Change practices, burn it, pulp it, use it for co-gen at mills. But dont leave it on the side of the hill!!
        
        It may be that a few dozen trees left alive (per skid site) as a barrier/retaining wall is the answer. Talking to a logger today he thought that was the cheapest way to do it.
        Leave the trees alive for 10 years then poison them after the slash was rotted down.

Kieran McAnulty was interviewed on the TV3 news last night in his capacity as Minister of Emergency Management and was swiftly criticised for having a huge Labour Party sign next to him.

He promptly apologise, said he should have noticed it (he was filmed in his Electorate office), adding that the TV camera was already set up when he arrived.

Good on him for his quick apology, but it raises the issue of the media (the cameraman and the reporter) and their failure to see the inappropriateness of setting up the camera to deliberatly include the large Labour Party signage in first place.

As we approach an election period I would like a committment from TV3 that they are not going to pull a stunt like this again. And that the staff involved in this episode have been formally warned about their partisan behaviour.

A Maori and a non-Maori co-own a $1000 car.

With democracy, they put in $500 each to make the purchase.

They wash the car together, pay for the registration, warrant, and maintenance together, and have equal time driving it.

They also have 50/50 ownership of a car park. All the expenses connected with the car park are shared equally.

Then the Maori moves up the ladder and becomes a tribal representative.

He wants to change how things are done with the car and the carpark.

He wants to change from democracy to co-governance.

CO-GOVERNANCE

With co-governance, the tribal representative claims 100% ownership of the car and the carpark. He insists the non-Maori continues to wash the car, pay for the registration, maintenance and warrant.

The tribal representative gets to drive the car whenever he wants. The non-Maori only gets to drive it when the tribal representative is not driving it and pays the tribal representative a fee every time he uses it.

He also charges the non-Maori an on-going fee for parking the car on the car park. When the car is sold, the tribal representative takes all the money.

If the 99.5% NZ sheeple (i.e. the non-tribal representative population of New Zealand) are ready to cede rights and submit to the ultimate authority of a .5% tribal representative minority, being pushed through illegally, they should at least do so after studying a clear explanation.

For those who buy cars for Cabinet Ministers and bureaucrats…

The pressure is on for electric vehicles. If the fleet is Telstra, the radios are FM only and the occupants won’t be able to listen to Parliamentary debate as the cars whisk them around.

But! If they want AM radio as well as FM as they are driven silently, so in the car they can hear MPs debating, there seems to be a solution.

The Guild of NZ Motoring Reporters has named the Chinese made, electric BYD Atto 3 its “car of the year” for 2023. A check with a dealer brought a response, “Yes, it has AM radio”.

Parliament is broadcast on the AM network in a deal between the Government and a religious broadcaster which has frequencies and broadcast facilities.

In America, where there are thousands of AM radio stations, there has been publicity about Musk leaving AM out of Tesla electric cars. Circuitry is needed to control interference from the motor.

BYD is China’s and the world’s biggest electric-vehicle maker. Berkshire Hathaway, the company of famed investor Warren Buffett, bought into BYD at a bargain price 14 years ago, but last year began selling at BYD’s now far, far higher share price. Buffett’s right hand man, Charlie Munger, says his 2008 decision to buy into BYD was the best investment he ever made.

  A car owner in the US recently found he could listen to conversations taking place in his Chinese car while he was at home. He found there was invisible (and undeclared) microphone in Chinese cars which could be accessed via the internet. It did not need any particular password.
  
  Imagine if the CCP could listen to conversations in ministerial cars!
  Also imagine all Chinese cars starting to have “technical difficulties” if New Zealand offended the CCP in some way, or in a trade dispute.
  
  What is good for Buffett is not necessarily good for New Zealand.

WEF are misleading us on the data re the Ozone hole so why would we believe them on climate change?

99% of CFC’s have been eliminated in a global mandate to ban cfc’s in 1994.

WEF says the hole in the ozone is shrinking.

They say , “In the final quarter of 2022, scientists from NASA and the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reported that the hole in the ozone layer is continuing to shrink. The hole lies above Antarctica, and between 7 September and 13 October 2022, it spanned an average area of 23.2 million square kilometres.

This is well below the average in 2006, when the hole’s size peaked at 27.5 million square kilometres.”

But when you look at the data they have cherry picked 2006 because it is the highest data point. In 1994, and 1996 it was only 19 and 12 respectively. The ozone hole numbers haven’t steadily decreased since the ban of cfc’s in 1994.

Climate change, Covid, Covid Vaccines and Ozone predictive modelling is a best informed guess. But with the ozone (and covid and vaxxes) we can now see how the modelling tracked against reality. And for ozone for example it didn’t work.

The average ozone area size from 1994 to 2022 is 21.95 But for the last 3 years it’s been 23.

Far too many pale, stale males amongst all those engineers, road workers, helicopter pilots, defence personnel, emergency workers etc we are seeing constantly on our screens rescuing people, rebuilding roads and communications, and cleaning up. What message are we sending our kids? Where is the diversity?
Or doesn’t it matter when our lives are at risk and we don’t mind at all that it’s a colonial descendant coming to save us?

interesting isnt it…a gov’t and the green’s wanting to get rid of diesel, petrol, gas,, guess what most of the devastated areas on the east coast are using to survive. u got it, diesel/petrol for generators to supply electricity.. gas to do cooking with. But do you hear anything from the msm about any of this or for that matter anything from the gov’t about their use…
This would have to be the biggest “up yours,” re, winding down the use of gas and petroleum products, will these numbties ever learn.
oh, and have you seen any ev’s running around doing deliveries, pushing there way thru knee deep water, or have you seen diesel/petrol utes and suv’s doing the hard yards, or anyone euligizing about their supply of electricity via a wind farm or those plastic things on the roof..jeezus wept…

Which is what worries me so much a Luxon, Willis and the other senior managers and ESG disciples at National’s head office, that they simply won’t have the desire and/or wherewithal to take on Maori intellectuals (who would run rings around them) to reject, and totally, the notion of co-governance and root it out of the civil service, but will seek to rebrand it so as to sell it to both Maori (wink, wink) and the electorate at large, all for wont of courage to face the most pressing issue of our time.

The rest of the article is instructive about what the future holds for co-managed or exclusively tribal-managed resources.

Finally, in the comments section there, this:

  Indeed, and it’s a perfectly natural human reaction. Where once goodwill or at least tolerance existed, now we have antipathy at best and open hostility at worst.
  
  But that’s the goal of the game that’s currently being played, and it saddens and depresses me that so few are aware of the bigger picture. As with all wokeness, and the call for “diversity, inclusion and equity”, the endgame is conflict between various groups divided by race, gender, sexual orientation, age (especially) and any other aspect of our humanity that can be used to drive a wedge.
  
  This is all the result of Marxism, laid out in the middle of the 19th century, the ideology which enslaved hundreds of millions in the 20th century justified upon class lines, and reworked for the post-WWII world to divide us along every other line, grown to fullness in the universities and schools, finally infecting the private sector, and now coming to fruition, and what a toxic fruit it is.

We’ve heard a lot about the loss of the Redclyffe Substation in Napier, but there hasn’t been much mention that the same thing happened to the Whirinaki substation just to the north of Napier as well.

The cost of the disruption in Napier this week would have paid to move a clump of the vulnerable substations to better locations.

I hope Transpower is told to get on and tackle it’s list of the worst ones, and to do substantial fixes (like moving to higher ground) rather than protective works.

SWMBO asked if orchardists would be insured against weather events like this, or are acts of God not covered.
I said hang on, this was no act of God – we’ve had all sorts of people in power pointing out that this was ‘climate change’ (meaning caused by humans) in action, and there’s no denying it.
Do insurance companies deny the science, or do they accept that humans are responsible for the carnage?

  Has nobody asked him where the money went if not infrastructure. Politicians are sound bite experts, never answer a question not held to account in parliament and selling out the country. The problem is the Labour party can drag the flooding out until mid year when we fall into the election cycle, and they will have dominated the MSM with their kindness and generosity in bailing out the stricken regions (and yes they are stricken, not to be minimised) but that’s what we have government agencies for, not one single Labour MP will be out there shovelling mud out of a wrecked house. Stuart Nash is once again “going to deal” to slash yeah right..

  Cell phone coverage also a big issue for rural.
  Organisations I have been involved with for years have advocated for this and every politician I have ever spoken with about it has just shrugged his/her/their shoulders and said there was nothing they could do.
  Telcos still too busy scrapping amongst themselves over market share to bother about rural customers and politicians just do not care.
