        I think it’s the lefties who are fearful. I worked with conservationists and Maori on marine protection. The conservations were willing to concede a cogovernance right over the coastline to gain a fake protection zone (aka customary fishing rights). When I confronted them over the loss of democratic control they were unwilling to defend their position to me. The Maoris got pissed off and I was pissed off. They are cowards who cannot stand up for themselves face to face.

        With the resignation of Jacinda Ardern, my thoughts were dragged back to Covid once more. Jacinda, as Prime Minster of New Zealand was the ultimate lockdown enforcer.       Example answer, even if he genuinely hadn’t heard about it:

        He would not have given the answer you suggest because he would know that marae grants were regularly made when National was in office.
        National MP’s know enough about how government works to know that the answer you suggest would likely generate controversy. A bit like Maureen Pugh, you need to have a sense where the minefields lie, although in her case she didn’t.

    Mitchell most certainly isn’t going to go out of his way to explain the basis of the appropriation, is he.
    The funding will go towards improving staffing for marae involved in recovery efforts, new equipment for the clean-up, storage of food and taonga, and future planning.
    After the various flooding episodes hundreds of marae were used for emergency centres for which they are ideally suited and will be in future once they are cleaned up and repaired from the flooding.
    $15mill ain’t going to go far towards building new emergency centres as an alternative.

    He had been with friends over night in the storm ravaged Esk Valley following being at the Crab Farm Winery meeting the night before Master Baiter, I dont think comms are much improved and please dont say anything about TV or Radio, their reportage of that meeting did not seem to be the same meeting Kiwi Blog is featuring today.       A woman rang Hosking today furious the media were trying to suggest it was a friendly timid meeting, she said that was rubbish, and the anger was fever pitched and all aimed at Nash and Hipkins, also now the anger is building because absolutely nothing is happening

  Well be fair Rouppe old chap, the assailant ‘worked in the education sector as a ‘kaiārahi (mentor)’, so having a conviction for home invasion and assault while the victim was holding her child could harm her employment prospects !!
  I note the assailants decided that shaving her head would last longer than giving her ‘a hiding’, so quite some hatred there. Still, some lucky tamariki will have her as a mentor. What could go wrong ?
  The Justice system under a Labour Government. So kind, pity about the victim and the future victims.

  The way things are going regarding consequences for criminal behaviour, I would not have been surprised if the judge had ordered a reparation payment be made to the accused for hairdressing services.
  Just as well these violent women don’t live in Kaikoura. I recall a female cafe owner/worker there was imprisoned for two months over Christmas for paper work offences and at the court hearing “would not discuss alternative sentencing”.

        Why didn’t he round on Shaw for giving such a pathertic response ? Surely a minister can do better than attempting to ridicule the questioner.

        If they say something like “our model shows”, your sceptometer should start twitching, big time. Climate models don’t ‘show’ anything.
        A ‘real’ scientist would admit his hypothesis was wrong if the predictions made from it weren’t confirmed by observations. If they just move the date of their prediction back a few years, well, the sceptometer should be twitching again. God help me, I’ve read that some people have this idea that it’s the measurements that are wrong if they don’t match the model predictions. I doubt that they’re the ‘real’ scientists.

      Interesting isn’t it. The majority of “climate scientists” have either stayed silent about this or, if they have any integrity have stated that weather events in and of themselves aren’t representative of climate change / global warming / [insert trendy scary term here]. Trends are, singular events no – which of course makes perfect sense.
      
      Luxon has basically demonstrated that groupthink ala labour is fine by him too. Did he also surround himself with yes folk at Air New Useless?
      
      He refuses to back free speech, backs the climate hysteria, and largely I suspect because he is frightened by the media. And/or not brave enough to try and have a nuanced conversation with those of us who might think about holding our noses and voting for him.
      
      What a sad, shabby state of affairs.

      Seymour’s approach seems to be the least worst option by far. My understanding is that he wants to get rid of the car subsidy and all other bullshittery except for the ETS. He then wants to tie our carbon cap/price thingy imposed by the ETS to what other countries do. This seems fairly clever because other countries will most likely not adhere to their ETS schemes (for long). He can do all this without being labelled a denier, but might risk being labelled a ‘minimiser’ by Luxon I guess.
      I’m not sure of his position on Net Zero. He seems reasonably clever, so probably understands that it’s physically impossible to achieve, let alone unnecessary in the first place.

    Hah! A Minster of Common Sense full stop would be pretty good. Portfolio would include differentiating between essential and non-essential projects as defined by outcomes for people not fame for ministers. And ensuring support went to people in most need. As opposed to groups determined by sex, sexuality, religion or colour. My suggestion is that the people in most need are generally poor and/or unwell and/or lacking family and general community supports.

  The whole narrative control going on is nauseating.
  Nobody I know is denying or minimising “climate”. There has always been and always will be “climate”.
  They need to speak clearly.
  
  The discussion that needs to be had is how much (if any) impact human activity has on the climate and is it net negative. Then ask will the mitigations being proposed be worse than the cure.
  
  Exactly the same principles apply as during the covid circus. An exaggerated “deadly threat”. Then policies enacted that were far worse than anything the actual original “threat” could ever have possibly managed.
  Maybe this time we can have a rational, adult discussion about the potential “threat” and stop these insane “cures” before it’s too late?
  
  Haven’t we learned enough through the covid fiasco? It certainly looks like Luxon has learned nothing.

      Sure. Including glaciations that covered much of the northern hemisphere with kilometre thick ice and megadroughts that lasted a century or two and wiped out whole civilisations plus periods of violent storms etc. Not the sort of climates that eight billion people could exist in.
      
      We in the middle of an experiment to see if adding a couple of hundred gigatonnes of CO2 will act as a forcing agent to move the climate someplace else from its present benign state. Maybe it will all be OK and the climate will continue “business as usual” …

        We have the history of the climate and the history of the CO2 levels going back to the pre-Cambrian period, and it is irrefutable that the climate varied massively through glaciation and tropical conditions, independent of the CO2 levels. In more recent history we have the roman Warm Period, the Medieval warm period, the little Ice Age, all at times when the CO2 levels were no where near what the are now, and there was apparently no significant CO2 released by man.

  1. The science is settled. The earth is round…. Ok
  2. Therefore you must stop driving your car. eh??
  If you don’t stop driving your car, you must be a flat earther.
  
  You can accept the climate is changing but remain unconvinced of the link to the second part.
  
  There is an easy way to settle the “science is settled” debate.
  Remove all funding for research related to climate change.
  After all, there is no funding to investigate other settled science such as the law of gravity. Focus all research on adaption to global warming, such as the recent snow in LA.

    I imagine most of the money will be going to marae so that they can be effective centres of support when these kinds of emergencies happen. In most of the East Coast marae are a vital part of community support given the number of people who will be affiliated to a local marae. And not just for Maori.
    If National had been in office something like this would have been done through Whanau Ora.

        If anyone didn’t know (I had no idea) Te Arawhiti is the “Office for Maori Crown Relations” and given the blatant nepotism and corruption that abounds in Te Ao Maori, that word relations has more than one meaning.
        
        Yet, what a lot of meaningless waffle – not one cent of that $3m goes to actually doing anything, it’s all about “supporting partnerships, relationship activities, strategic leadership and co-ordination.”

        Hmm, have you been out of New Zealand for the last 30 years? In which case you would have not been aware of the Māori revival, supported by successive governments. Covered in part by the partnership concept. So as a result marae are seen as having a somewhat different status to Lions or Rotary.
        I would imagine that Act would also buy into seeing marae being a bit different to Rotary. And thus would get funds ahead of Rotary.
        Would any political party at all have your viewpoint on this issue?

Stuff’s “Whole Truth” article “How our farms are contributing to Climate Change,” by Charlie Mitchell, is hiding the whole truth namely that these Whole Truth fact checking series are paid for by the govt’s public interest journalism fund.

The fact this is govt funded is not written or in the link to “more Whole Truth articles”. It’s only verbally declared if you also listen to the podcast .

There is a Whole Truth page for the series which puts the declaration right up front in detail but the link In Charlies Climate article doesn’t go there. It just goes to a handful of articles without disclosure. These “fact checks” are digital govt information pamphlets. They should be transparent. The govt should put the logo in the heading of the whole truth series and the funding disclosure should be up from.
There whole truth series is not hard science but govt defence of their leader on a variety issues of the day. . Articles include : get vaxxed even if you had previous covid, do female politicians get more abuse with a pic of Jacinda and what to think about oppositions claims on inflation, school attendance and crime.

The production team names 32 people for the series..

    Ever been on a school Board of Trustees Mike? If you had, then you’d have a different view of teachers having a say. I spent 7 years on a Board, and learned that anyone that says “I’m in education” was more than likely a numpty when it comes to (1) the administration of a school, (2) the curriculum, (3) their own role and (4) any improvements to child learning. Most are bent left politically and their progressive bias in everything they do is painfully obvious. They are happy to throw PISA at you when it suits them, but lord, if you mention it when it shows they are morons, they have epic (and laughable) meltdowns.

The issue with teachers though, no matter how good they are, or what outcomes they provide, they are not rewarded (or punished). They all get the same.     Teachers know how to teach the way they know how to teach. That doesn’t mean they’re any good at running schools. The Union’s job is to ensure the teachers get overpaid as much as possible and have to do as little as possible. That isn’t condusive to good education policy. From what I know of New Zealand history at the times Cook was in and around New Zealand Maori did not have knives. They had no steel let alone the ability or knowledge to temper it to make a knife blade.

At best they could have poked him up the jaxxie with a sharp stick.

Anyone been in the middle of a running flock of sheep? They tend to run around you.
After reading a few items and seeing it on Play School TV1 is seems Health and Safety are saying ‘Safety reasons’ without saying what those reasons are.
Is this another case of someone justifying their existence in the Public Sector.
What and I missing? Silence of the Rams?

It’s also a great Trojan horse in private corporations where some wet behind the ears Marxist activist can wrestle an inordinate amount of control from the managers under the guise of keeping staff safe and duty of care. An acquaintance of mine, a long serving union organiser, upon seeing the shrinking ability to disrupt and generally hassel bosses ( his language not mine) in the nineties turned in his card for the new title of a health and safety inspector. To this day he can turn up to anywhere that employs anyone and hassel away to climax.     Back then, during the Commie utopia, almost all of Moscow would travel out to their allotments on the week end to stay in their little huts and tend to their vegetable gardens.
    
    If you didn’t have a few hundred kg of potatoes at the start of winter you’d starve.

Rob Campbell has been removed from one of his boards. I am stunned, I honestly didn’t believe it would happen. Well done Labour.

I have held of in commenting on Luxon to this point but really, his was the party being attacked and it was a great attack stick to use against Labour. What does Luxon do, he is weak as dishwater on it. Multiple TV an radio appearances slamming Campbell and screaming for is removal? Nah. Sadly Hipkins and Verrall come out of this looking strong and decisive defenders of public sector neutrality. On the opposition side it was, yet again, Seymour who spoke strongly on the issue.

I don’t know Luxon, I don’t know what he is like as a real person. I am unsure as to what he really stands for. All of this is an issue for National. What I do know is that he appears weak and indecisive, to scared to put his head above the parapets and stake his claim on an issue. Labours three waters policy is a great example, it appears good policy and needed to be released to show National had some policy. National chooses to release it over a weekend during a national emergency. That’s what a sitting government does when it wants to release bad news that they hope people will ignore. Does Luxon actually think this is bad policy and is scared to be challenged on it?

At this point I am a firm Act voter. I wasn’t 2 months ago, I was still in the National camp. We need a strong right, it is sad to see National destroy themselves in the face of such a hapless Labour party.

  Funny, I was saying I had no idea what Luxon stood for a year ago, but he’s giving clues now: Storms are caused by climate change. Todd Muller is chosen for Climate Change minister as well as Agriculture, his abominable conduct during the Wellington protests, a pattern has emerged.
  The reason he’s ineffective with the media is he’s constantly conflicted with fear of actual free enterprise people in his caucas and party versus his inate woke progressive instincts.

    “Another Turnbull”. That’s an interesting articulation of who/what Luxon could be like. Hadn’t thought of it that way, so will have to reflect on it. It’d be interesting to know whether he doesn’t believe in true free enterprise or is just worried about what such thought/expression in this caucus would mean electorally. Either way, it suggests National would be unpredictable (to the extent governments are predictable) if they formed a government. (And I can’t see an alternative Willis/Bishop leadership being any more successful as the media/elites would turn on them in due course. All it would do is speed up the transition into a Labour Party clone.) The Nats would possibly stop hardcore unionism in NZ but it’s hard to see them materially changing NZ. With a few exceptions, I get more disenchanted with the National Party caucus every three years. Mostly careerists seeking post-nominals and social status. How’s that different from most Labour MPs? I’m not naive about NZ culture and it’s not clear whether we were ever a ‘freedom seeking’ nation, but it’s still sad to see NZ willingly enslave itself through promises of ‘safety’ and a ‘comfortable life’.

What a week it is turning out to be for National.

On Sunday, they released their response to 3 Waters.

As evidenced by Rob Campbell, they made it clear where they stood on co-governance, despite naysayers on this blog (for that matterwhat is Act’s policy?).

Campbell, because of his stupidity showed along with Cuddles Coster how much senior public servants are aligned with Labour politicians and policy.

Now there is the spectacle of the local police, police HQ and what the minister/PM are aware of or reporting as the real law & order situation. If, as appears to be the case, local news stories were in fact true, then Coster should be thinking about tendering his resignation also, and Labour spinmeisters, Nash and Chippie have got more questions to answer – especially after giving $15mill more to local East Coast Maoris.

I’ve been saying, since the Labour changing of the guard, that Chippie is accident prone because of his past, and he has the whiff of Palmer about him. So, are there any bets he may be rolled before election day?

  Why was Luxon not expressing outrage at Campbell and demanding he be sacked? IMO it’s because Luxon basically agrees with Campbell that his own policy is racist. I think he will look to achieve co-governance in another way, most likely through the councils. Also it’s not yet clear what role Pipa Mahuta will have as head of the retained temata arowa or whatever it is called. And what of these statements that Maori can issue that must be followed? Still retained under Luxon’s recognition that Iwi have as yet undefined rights and interests in water?

TV3’s late-night news with Rebecca Wright was excellent.
The ‘slash’ interview with Nashie was worth the watch. He’s certainly a master of obfuscation that boy!

Rebecca was down in Wairoa filming the devastation and interviewing the displaced residents. Heartbreaking.
Our fave part was when the camera zoomed in a farmgate with a sign on it…..

    Isn’t it odd that we hear so little, bordering on nothing, about slavery in NZ – and given that it was once so widespread here.
    
    The reason why is obvious of course. Doing so is of no advantage to the left and the Maori elites. It is in fact positively embarrassing for them – given who were the perpetrators of it.
    
    I personally think we should be talking about it far more than we do. I think that it should be taught in schools – that Maori routinely enslaved each other and well into colonial times.
    
    I feel so strongly about it in fact that I think we should have a NZ Slavery Truth and Reconciliation Commission established to fully investigate this holocaust and recommend reparations from the perpetrators.

The start of the shoulder season for us in the tourism industry.

This season has been good start to our recovery so far. Long way to go though.

The swiss regulars are blown away by the devastation caused by Labours Covid oppression and are genuinely surprised kiwis just let it happen.

Aren’t we all?

The checks and balances just weren’t there.

Just a disclaimer, I don’t prompt the conversations just listen. In fact the revolting way kiwis turned on one another directly or indirectly via their vote for Labour is a profound embarrassment I don’t want to talk about to people enjoying the NZ in a way we try very very hard to pretend it is. Labours covid oppression has genuinely made it hard to keep my host game face this season, knowing the friendly kiwi theme is a fraud.

For the first time in my life I don’t want to live in NZ.

This next election and year or so after are more important to get right than they should be this time around, perhaps they always are but this one seem very different.

Rocket Lab USA Inc, founded in NZ, has won a contract to launch four of its Electron rockets carrying payloads for Capella Space, which monitors Earth with synthetic aperture radar satellites.

These capture imagery day and night for uses ranging from weather, geology, forestry research, to military surveillance.

Rocket Lab simultaneously announced the formation of an Australian subsidiary. Australia plans to triple the size of its space industry, with an additional 20,000 jobs by 2030.

In its announcement of the subsidiary, Rocket Lab says it now has operations in four of the countries in the Five Eyes intelligence alliance.

Rocket Lab’s Electron rockets are two-stage, and partly recoverable.

  I don’t see how they hope to survive after SpaceX’s starship comes on line. Starship is expected to drop launch costs to around $100/kg (marginal cost to SpaceX of launching an additional kg) within a couple of years, compared to $10-20000/kg for Rocketlab. SpaceX can then just drop their prices to a point where they put all competitors out of business.

    Munger had Berkshire Hathaway buy 225 million BYD shares in 2008 for $US232 million. It has made a 3,000 per cent gain on the shares, which grew to be worth billions. Berkshire Hathaway has sold some shares but still holds a 13 per cent stake in BYD.
    
    “Charlie called me one day and says, ‘We’ve got to buy BYD, this guy that runs it is better than Thomas Edison,'” Buffett told CNBC in 2018.

    They don’t compete in the same space, so to speak. Yes, Starship will dramatically reduce per kilo prices, but it is a monster rocket. Its orbit won’t suit a lot of payloads. In contrast Rocket lab can put your payload exactly where you want it.
    Starship is the equivalent of a semitrailer. Rocket lab, more like a small delivery van.

  Make up your mind, miss. Either run with the adults and be treated as an adult – which means if you voluntarily agree to a radio interview and make a prat of yourself, you’ll be treated like a prat – or stay out of the kitchen if you can’t handle the heat.

Brian Tamaki has once again blamed a natural event on the wrath of God, this time telling his followers that Cyclone Gabrielle was brought to Aotearoa by porn, abortion and gay rights.

The self-styled ‘Apostle’ of the Destiny Church made the comments just days after the storm hit, dedicating a sermon to the topic and zeroing in on Pornhub statistics showing that Gisborne and Hastings have the “highest number of porn watchers in the country”.

With respect to today’s ramraids and looting.

New Zealand law says that you have the right to use reasonable force to protect your life and the life of others. You also have the right to protect your property and prevent someone from breaking into your home illegally.

Then the law goes further to explain:

“In the situations above, reasonable force does not include striking the other person, nor inflicting bodily harm.

It is difficult to define what is reasonable force, as each situation will be different. But essentially you must use force that is proportionate to the harm that you are trying to prevent.”

How can you protect yourself, others and your property if you are not allowed to strike or inflict bodily harm to a person trying to kill you or steal from you?

You can try but just talking is probably not going to cut it especially if the other person(s) is/are physically superior or in superior numbers.

I know for certain jobs applicants must take an IQ test and a personality test.

Would it not be possible for MPs to be required to take just an IQ test?

I would which one would support my idea and which ones would not. Any guesses?
