I happen to agree with Posie Parker. According to the cartoon in the NZ Herald today, and the events of the last few days, I am now an outcast in my own country. The hate and intolerance from the mob, the media and politicians of many stripes tells me that I am no longer welcome here. To say I am feeling unsafe is to put it mildly.

    I’m still waiting for a Luxon critic to come up with a compelling reason to vote for someone else. Without a viable alternative, anti Luxon tirades merely promote another Labour government….
    
    Luxon took National from the 30s to NZ’s preferred party in the first year of his leadership.
    
    Luxon is now rolling out sensible, evidenced policy which resonates with the key middle NZ voting bloc, and which is obviously part of a preplanned election strategy.
    
    What more do you expect from Luxon?
    
    And if we don’t vote for National and Luxon who do you recommend we vote for?

      I really don’t think Luxon is doing well compared to what he is competing against.
      
      Politics is just professional wrestling. It is just a circus put up for our entertainment. Labour and National are really two sides of the same coin.

        Mark, go look up the websites yourself.
        
        I am only recommending ACT because they are the least pathetic of the lot.
        
        Written policies mean SFA unless they are actually followed. Does National live up to their policies? Not sure they do.
        
        I think National are far more competent than Labour, but competence is not always a good thing if they are still striving for the wrong thing.

        CMM. Adern gained power because voters used emotion as their guiding principal. “9 years of neglect” when analyzed dispassionately was actually was 9 years of competent management.
        
        e.g, National introduced the public sector targets, strove to achieve them (remember when you used to be seen the same day at A&E) and most importantly showed us all their progress against the targets.
        
        The KB criticisms of Luxon are mostly general opinions and dare i say it emotional responses.
        
        PS. If you go back through KB comments you will discover my support for ACT with a specific reason. You’ll also see my support for National for specific reasons! The two are not mutually exclusive!

      I can add to that list: Luxon is a woke worshiper at the Climate Change™ altar. He shows zero appreciation of the change in global dynamics and instead proposes ‘sensible policy’ (beat gangs, the three R’s etc etc etc) that would have been sensible 40 years ago. His team include Chris “Get Boosted” Bishop who proselytized adoption of a novel, untested genetic therapy, if only to add to his tobacco advocacy credentials. Luxon was worse than invisible when the human right of New Zealanders where being trampled by Ardern. Worse, because he supported her to the extent that the vile Mallard thanked him.
      
      So vote for National/Luxon if you want, Mark. Just don’t expect New Zealand inexorable slide into socialism, wokeness, or pledged fidelity to unelected global elites to change even fractionally under his management.

        It heavily depends on how many people vote for ACT and how many continue to vote for Labour Lite, and wet, weak, woke.

        A reality check, over the past 25 years, Act has had a long line of MPs who proved to be just as poor in parliament as any of Labour, National or Greens, so don’t delude yourselves.
        
        cmm points to Act’s website, other than Charter Schools, 3 strikes, a referendum on the Maori seats and the same stance as Nicola Willis about the bureaucracy and red tape, there is nothing to distinguish National & Act.
        
        Neither Seymour nor Van Veldon have unequivocally come out and said:
        The Rights for Women groups had every right to invite Parker
        Parker had the right to be heard
        What happened was unlawful and
        The perpetrators will be prosecuted.
        
        Until Act politicians say the above, they are no more than dog whistlers, and many of those opposing Luxon are feeding the Labour need for National & Act to be disunited ahead of this year’s election and thereby gift Labour 3 more years.

        Winston has been caught out lying about his claim Labour hid their agenda from him.
        
        If Peters had no idea that Labour was completely woke-deranged, Labour was not ready to govern, and Labour and Adern didn’t possess the ability to run a country, why did he hand them the keys to the beehive?
        
        Surely his decision to ignore the will of the people (National won the election) should only have been made after careful research and assessment of the options?

      I think that few would argue with an assertion that a National government would be far more competent than a Labour government.
      
      But that’s not all there is.
      
      Which is more frightening:
      * Labour failing to reach their goals.
      * National succeeding and achieving their goals.
      
      Given how National’s goals have moved over the last decade or so, it is not clear to me that success is a desirable outcome.

        We all know what happened in 2017 when emotion ruled voter’s decision making. If voters asked:
        – what are Labour’s policies?
        – have Labour’s policies been planned and costed so we have confidence they can actually be implemented?
        – does Adern have the competence to implement them?
        
        we would have got a different result and we’d all be healthier and richer today!

      Mark – Maybe some of us need a compelling reason to vote for National. Being told I have to vote for him or we’ll have another Labour government is not one. Neither is voting for someone who wholeheartedly supports the Covid and the Climate fraud. I still do not know where Luxon stands with respect to the WEF, the WHO pandemic treaty and CBDC. Going by his past behaviour I can only assume that he will be an avid supporter thereof and will ensure that nobody in his caucus will be allowed to contradict him.
      
      So who will I vote for? Seymour doesn’t pass the test but is probably the closest to questioning these things.

        I obviously can’t speak for Luxon but I do know….
        
        National had created a pandemic plan whilst they were in power. That plan was similar to Sweden’s which has proven to be the best response. Adern ignored the plan.
        
        National’s priorities are laid out in Luxon’s state of the nation speech. There is no mention of the an anthropogenic climate emergency, WEF, the WHO pandemic treaty, and CBDC.

So Nat were not the instigator for getting it done, however why were National not thumping the benches and calling Jacinda out for binning it? They must have had access to the Medsafe report to her that has now become publicIf not they should have been able to get non-politicised medical advice.
        
        Those 4 subjects that he did not mention are probably the most important items and need to addressed if we have any hope of retaining any sovereignty. That he has not mentioned them speaks very loudly.

        Luxon wasn’t National’s leader during the pandemic, in fact he was a 1st term mp finding his feet.

        Luxon has vast experience implementing change in large organisations.

Well who would have thought it………..

The U.N. has released a report that says the UKRAINE military as well as the RUSSIAN military are both guilty of summary executions of captured soldiers.
Well what a surprise – in this nasty war armies behave as the have throughout all of history – they shoot each other.
Slowly the reality of this war is coming through despite the media really trying to make the Ukrainians look like saints and the Russians to look like devils. The truthis they are both as madder and stupid as each other.

This war is going to rumble on for years. Both the USA and France have increased (I think doubled) their capacity to make more artillery shells for supply to Ukraine.
The various militaries are loving a war like this – it allows for the testing of their latest and greatest weapons on someone else’s soil and using someone else’s soldiers. The politicians love it because they can use it to say “Theres nothing to see here – look over there at those silly buggers”. And to a certain extent they are right – the Russian military as currently being used seem almost useless – and that’s a surprise to all those people who have claimed for years about how big and deadly the Russian military was. Actually I think they knew all along.

I am surprised at the efficiency and accuracy of some of the anti tank weapons and also the effective use of drones. They seem to be so good that I wouldn’t be surprised if the Russians get pissed off and either:
a. Chuck Putin out and negotiate, or
b. Use battlefield Nuclear weapons.
And since the various militaries from the rest of the world are supplying Ukraine with some very sophisticated weaponry I would put the chances at 50/50 for either of the options.

  As I have commented before, my first reaction when Jacinda resigned (or was rolled) was that the Government is toast. I was so wrong. Jacinda had become poison. Her senior colleagues had figured it out.
  
  I think that it is increasingly likely that Chris Hipkins will ride his honeymoon through to the election and there will be a Labour-Green Government.
  
  Meanwhile I will be voting ACT. Unless either National changes course, or ACT gets to 20 percent plus in the Party Vote, New Zealand is stuffed. All you will get with a Luxon led National Government is policies that are ‘less bad’ than currently and a sinking lid on the monstrosity of the bloated public service.

You can bet Labour MP’s are feeling smug about the counter protest cancelling Women speakers at Auckland on Saturday.

But at the same time for the odd Labour MP there will be a realisation and some dread that there is a connection with their bombastic (disinformation) statements last week and their support of the counter protesters turning violent.

So suggest that National, ACT, the FSU etc, continue to apply pressure on Labour for their part in whipping up “hatred” and support of the Thug’s Veto.

Notice how the MSM is totally ignoring the Speak Up For Women movement, so they won’t have the same impact.

The other thing National needs to do (and maybe ACT?) is, with their millions of donations, bring in one or two more comms or strategy advisors.

As per the comments on the 7am thread I too heard Luxon being interviewed by Hosking. Whilst Luxon is probably technically correct with what he said, the fact that he (and thus National, and who knows ACT?) is relying on TV news for their (mis)information is both concerning and explains why they seem disconnected at times to events.

Sure technically the majority of the protesters (i.e at the back or centre of the counter protest may not have been violent but honestly who cares about that, the fact is those dozens or one/two hundred protesters at the front were extreme in their actions – National, ACT and FSU etc need to call these people out and put pressure on both the Police and Labour as to explain their part in enabling the counter protest violence (for the Police why the F. weren’t they at the front lines – an explanation is owed to all decent minded NZers).

I’m appalled at the bias Te MSM (radio, print, and TV) is exhibiting against a visiting woman here to support the rights of women using free speech as her medium.
I’m equally appalled at the apparent support given to the rent-a-crowd anarchists by politicians of the left and to a lesser degree, those of the right who chose to ignore our right to free speech.
As for that racist from the Greens (Marama Davidson), if there is someone in authority who can expel an MP, it’s time they exercised their authority.

The Free Speech Union has an open letter/petition for the Minister of Police:

Dear Minister,

At the ‘Let Women Speak’ rally on Saturday in Auckland’s Albert Park, Police claimed regarding women’s right activist, Posie Parker, that “she is in a public space. If she feels unsafe she needs to leave.” Regardless of our views on Parker’s claim, this is an abject failure of the Police to do their job; defending the basic liberties of those in New Zealand, including free speech.

The counter-protest on Saturday used the ‘Thug’s Veto’ to silence opponents, not through debate or reason, but through manifest intimidation.

Without the right to peacefully gather and express beliefs and opinions, controversial or condemnable though some may consider them to be, free speech is no longer protected in New Zealand. Free speech guarantees the right to both express perspectives and views, and also to hear others perspectives and views.

The Police have failed in their duty to protect these foundational rights.

If you take free speech off the table, as it seems Police allowed to happen on Saturday, the contested opinions and beliefs don’t simply go away. However, the ability to express them peacefully is undone. This leaves only far more extreme forms of expression on the table. We are concerned for the tenor of public debate, and the potential for this to produce violence.

We believe in tolerance. Without free speech, eventually we will all lose.

We call on you, and the Police Commissioner, to acknowledge the lack of action to defend the basic speech rights of those who turned up to the ‘Let Women Speak’ rally, and reassert that those who express unpopular or controversial views in public are entirely in their right, and deserve to be protected from threats, intimidation, and violence.

The Police did themselves no credit on Saturday; the big question is who gave the order for them to be so passive? Both Minister Ginny Andersen and Commissioner Coster need to provide a cast-iron reassurance that there was no order given for the Police to stand by whilst a mob was allowed to rule.

The Green Party Co-Leader, and Minister outside Cabinet for the Prevention of Family and Sexual Violence, and Associate Housing Minister, was captured on video heading to the protest at Albert Park on the weekend.

This is what she said.

“I am the prevention violence minister and I know who causes violence in the world, it is white cis men. That is white cis men who cause violence in the world. So trans are taonga, trans women are women. Te Ao Maori was never as boring as binary. I am tangata whenua and I say transphobia is not welcome here. Ka Kite”

So, Transphobia isn’t welcome in her world, but racism and sexism are all good apparently.

I feel sorry for James Shaw having to work alongside that level of ignorance and bigotry.

Surely the only circumstances in which it is acceptable for a law abiding person to feel so unsafe in a public space that they need to leave would involve natural disasters (that last tremor is making that building shake alarmingly) or weather events (tornado, lightning)?

Do the New Zealand Police really believe that the answer to a person feeling unsafe because of the threatening and intimidating behaviour of others is for the one who feels unsafe to leave?

In which case, the trans community should be told the same – if you’re out in a public space and you feel unsafe, it’s up to you to leave. On no account should you expect other people to behave with basic decency, courtesy and humanity. They’re just exercising their freedoms. We won’t intervene.

On second thoughts, maybe that is the new policing by consent.

  Th police argument is ridiculous. It is their job to keep public places safe for everyone. They are essentially saying if a gang is threatening you in the street don’t expect us to help, run home. We actually saw this in Christchurch recently when the mungrel mob (?) took over part of the public hospital. The police said, not our problem.

    Now the ex-Police Minister admits that perhaps the Police (and PM) could have listened to what they were being told by folks on the ground.
    
    Local MP and former Police Minister Stuart Nash did show up and made an admission.

  Great. Come election time, meet the candidate meetings will be organised in public halls around the country.
  I suspect that there will be carefully organised protests and disruption by intolerant activists at many of these meetings where heckling, chanting and disorder will be on the agenda.
  I guess then, if I feel unsafe after making a dissenting comment or asking a “wrong” question, I will just have to scuttle away into the night with my hoodie over my head.

    Public halls and parks are different in that, once you hire a public hall for an event, you can exclude uninvited guests, whereas you can’t stop other people using the rest of the park.
    
    But it does seem a fair conclusion that if police will not intervene to prevent disruption at one, they won’t at the other either.

What did Race Relations Commissioner Meng Foon make of the Albert Park protests where there was an obvious violation of human rights: the suppression of one group of people by another group on grounds of gender beliefs.

■ Can Meng Foon explain how the law relates to this situation with view to either party or individuals perhaps laying complaints – or

■ If the law does not cover the situation of gender violence, will he berate the Government for there being no legal support in the denial of either groups rights?

Apart from the mangled words – Marama Davidson is actually the Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence and Sexual Violence – what evidence does Ms Davidson have to support this allegation?

The Prime Minister needs to ask her to produce evidence, and if she can’t, she should be relieved of her portfolio. It is inexcusable for a Minister to make an allegation which contains a blatant falsehood, i.e. that white cis men are primarily responsible for violence.

Of course the chances of Hipkins doing anything are remote, given his deafening silence over the weekend. Commenters here are berating Chris Luxon and David Seymour for bland statements, but at least they have been heard. It would appear that Hipkins is going to be kept in a cupboard somewhere by his minders any time anything controversial happens, in case his image as a likeable but goofy ginga gets tarnished.

  If she was only talking about New Zealand, she might be numerically correct, given that white straight men would be one of our largest population groups and violence isn’t limited to domestic or male on female. Percentages, of course, might be another thing.
  
  But she’s talking about the world. Does she really think straight white men are the largest group of people on the planet? Does she know about Africa, Asia, South America, the Pacific and Arab nations? All non-white, with about 50% of their population male and at least the same levels of violence usually found among humans.

I remember when

On Sunday I drove from Marton to Whanganui through the rural landscape.
As I gazed at the endless apparently empty paddocks, and occasional small groups of sheep and cattle, I wondered how farmers could be the cause of rising global CO2/GHG totals.
If nothing else the grass in the paddocks is longer, which must have resulted in more carbon being sequestered.
There was very little sight of cropping in a region noted for it.
The Stats NZ figures (Provisional for 2022) show that –
Beef Cattle 2002 Total 4,491,300: 2022 – 3,841,800
Dairy Cows 2002 – 5,162,00: 2022 – 5,917,000
Sheep 2002 – 39,572,000: 2022 – 22,150,000
Barley/Wheat: 2003 – 106,000ha: 2022 – 84,900ha.
Peak Years:
Dairy: 2014 – 6,698,000
Beef: 2003 – 4,627,000
Sheep: 2006 – 40,082,000
Wheat/Barley: 2009 – 131,600ha.

Where is that Co2/GHG coming from?

You’ll all recall I posted on Saturday about the humongous Housing-Development, planned for the the site of Wellington’s former Mt Crawford Prison.

Resource Consent is being fast-tracked as I write and is expected to be approved by June. And as it’s Mario Land, no Public Consultation was required.

Running the numbers, with a budget of only $350million to build 700 houses, that works out at 500k each all up.
Now admittedly, I’m not fully across the Welligton RE market….but have you seen what you get in Auckland for 500k? 🙁

  I would assume significant cost savings if they are building 700 houses with one builder on one site where the buildings are all similar / the same. 500k should get a pretty decent place if the above is true.
  
  In the real world its more likely multiple builders, different plans and the 500k is just a quote to get the ball rolling with two or three blowouts on the horizon.

      I live just down the hill from the prison, I have no confidence the council will provide sufficient infrastructure to accomodate this development.
      A water main was leaking in our street for over a week, and the council only sent someone round to repair it when the road began to collapse around the leak and there was a potential safety issue for cyclists.

It is important to remember that when the Ukraine-Russian War began, that the Russian army was essentially a defensive force, not suited for large scale offensive operations. Russia is not the Soviet Union – any thinking on these lines is delusional. The former does not have the same capability as the latter, nor is there any indication that the former aims to become the latter 2.0.

The Ukraine army (of course excluding the Ukrainians to the East, who are pro-Russian), however, was larger, more modern, and well-trained and -led. They had eight years to train and prepare for the conflict. This army, which was largely destroyed by June/July 2022, was the most powerful in Europe in Feb 2022.

As in any modern war, armies change depending on the type and length of the conflict. The Russian army is now a far more lethal instrument than even a few months ago, with a major reorganisation and reequipping along with the partial mobilisation and refresher training. At the same time, the Russians are inflicting huge casualties on the Ukrainians. The most reliable independent estimates (BBC, Medusa Group, Larry Johnson, etc) for military dead are 250,000-350,000 Ukrainians and 30,000-40,000 for the Russians. Ukraine is being bled to death and it is scraping the barrel to maintain its front line.

People on this website have drawn attention to the length of the fighting around Bakhmut, but one must keep in mind that once the town falls, the Ukrainians will have no readily defensible line to the west. With few strategic reserves left (the Ukrainian Spring offensive, even if successful, will not win them the war, as there is no longer enough resources to make its decisive), the front may well collapse like a house of cards. Take note of Russian gains to the North, with the Ukrainians holding on tenaciously, but unable to regain the ground lost.

People also talk about the attritional nature of the war, but this is what modern wars are like. Given modern ISR and the sophistication of art defences/modern fortifications, a blitzkrieg style campaign simply cannot be waged without huge losses (US/Nato are not exceptions). All progress is incremental, until there is another technological leap (thousands of swarm drones/robots?).

Finally, as you may be aware, the Polish high command ran a war game against Russian forces, and they lost in five days. We may argue about the causes of the war, but the outcome in my view is certain, namely a decisive Russian victory this year and the absorption of much of Ukraine into Russia. There is indeed much propaganda, but I cannot see any alternative outcome.

All the major states have now all gone to the Labour left. The Liberals are spineless and weak in that country and offer no alternative to the proposed Voice legislation which is similar to Maori co-governance in NZ.

It is not clear cut at all that National will win in October when they have weak responses on any of the major issues facing Nzers like 3 waters/ co-governance, health, crime, cost of living etc,

    Albanese (Aust PM) won’t release the fine detail of what this Voice will actually involve. However, it does reek of co-governance but with more barbs whereby those seconded to the ‘Voice’, like our intended co-governance are not elected but are appointed by Aboriginal elites.
    Adding this wing of Govt to the Aust Constitution makes it virtually impossible to remove.
    Please note, it is also common knowledge in Aust that this entity will be subservient to Labor Govts but against all Political Parties not affiliated with Labor.
    Also, note that it is suggested the ‘Voice’ will have the right of Veto over Parliamentary decisions and as such, it will have greater power than the two-house system the Australians currently have.
    Albanese has done his Crocodile Tears act along with his being bought up in a Housing Commission home and his life struggle. He has forever denied knowing his father but there are photographs of him with his father who was a steward on some Italian ship.

I don’t get it. Why is there silence in the media and by Nat/Act around Marama Davidson’s comments that white cis men are the cause of violence. She said this in an interview in her capacity as a minister. She should be sacked. The green party should be standing her down.

I know the MSM won’t really report it, but the silence is deafening. Have I completely misread the situation? Can MP’s say that kind of thing with zero ramifications now?

      The jury is out big-time for me on Luxon – but if the Nats start playing spill the leader then we won’t get a new government from this election.
      
      That being said, on this occasion I think he was between a rock and a hard place. He was promoting the right to free speech and then Mike played that short clip – it was random, out of nowhere. Luxon sounded like he hadn’t seen the full video and needed to be careful to remain consistent with the position of the right to free speech he had begun the segment with. Basically he was blindsided. Maybe he could have just said to Hosking “can you provide more context about what Marama is saying?” But he played a straight bat to what was a potentially loaded question. No he didn’t hit a six but he didn’t lose his wicket either.
      
      The video of Davidson was freely available on the web yesterday. It is a problem that the Nats don’t have more people looking at what is happening and briefing their leader!

The next opinion poll, from after the Posie Parker mob attack, should be interesting.

My sense is that the economic conditions jumped off a cliff at the end of last year. By October, our economy will be a complete train wreck.

The honeymoon for Mr. Hipkins now seems to have ended. Expect his support to start falling fast.

National / ACT will win the next election by a landslide, I now believe.

The Posie Parker situation has exposed the extreme left bias of our media.

Alas, National / ACT will be a one term government, unless they address the Team of $55 million bias, as a priority.

They must at a minimum:

1. Cut off all the bribes.
2. Privatise all State media.

I really hope that National / ACT do this, or we are doomed as a country.

  I’ve been trying to rein-in Hubby’s indulgences.
  
  Now, we’re not big spenders… and I’m cheap to keep
  (don’t drink, don’t smoke, don’t wear make-up, don’t possess jewellery or fashionable clothes), but we like to venture out for lunch & coffee.
  
  But one of our favourite grazing spots now charges $6.10 for a single-shot, small flat white (served in a paper ‘cup”).
  
  It’ll be lunch at home for most of our days from now on. (but not today……)

  It made the two TV3 ‘news’ readers complicit in the disinformation show that TV3 News has become.
  They either are one of several things.
  1. They are true believers
  2. The seemingly don’t review the stuff they will read out
  3. They like the overpaid salary WAY too much
  4. All three of the above.
  
  I cannot fathom that a professional journalist would allow that amount of false reporting/video to be spoken/showen by them? (I can actually because of the PJIF)……..
  
  This has further undermined credibility of journalism that frankly was hanging by a thread anyway.

Say what you like about Christopher Hitchens, but when he completed ‘God is not Great’ he sat down with his publishers to agree how it would be promoted.

He pushed for a rolling series of debates right across the US Bible Belt, and with the strongest religious-types that would agree to test their mettle. And so it transpired. He held tens of such debates in packed-out halls throughout the country. You can find them all on YouTube.

The Team of $55 Million have been almost exclusively spouting socialist propaganda for years.

The reputation of the NZ media was already at an all time low.

However, with the disgraceful hitjob they delivered against Posie Parker, they took their bias and propaganda role to new lows.

This time, they may have been caught by the public. This is a disaster for the Labour & Greens parties, because all they had was going for them in the election race was relentless fawning propaganda from the Team of $55 Million.

Of course, I fully expect that the Labour lickspittles in the media will continue to campaign for the extreme left, until the election.

The problem they have is that more and more people are realising, with horror, how corrupt and biased the NZ media is.

It feels like a watershed moment to me…

The Minister for the Prevention of Family and Sexual Violence says her comments about “white cis men” causing violence were “not as clear” as they should have been as she was “in shock” after being hit by a motorcycle.
Marama Davidson is facing calls to resign after claiming it is “white cis men who cause violence in the world” following the Posie Parker protest at Albert Park Auckland over the weekend.

Or is it indeed true white cyclist-men cause the violence?
