Another shooting in downtown with one dead. Auckland Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Bolton said police believe it’s an isolated incident and there is no risk to the public. How isolated is it when it’s in a public street in the largest city in NZ and downtown where tourists are and where stray bullets can hit anyone walking by? How f#@&ing stupid is this cop?

  At a Police press conference on Friday afternoon, Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Bolton outlined the facts – saying he’s confident it was a one-off.
  
  “There were words exchanged, so then the person gets off the scooter and confronts the other group. Then things escalate from there. That’s how we’re confident it’s an isolated offence,” he told reporters.

        The point, I think, is that if you have a series of “one off” events, involving weapons (not just guns) then there is an increased risk of harm from “something”.
        
        An innocent victim doesn’t care if they are in hospital from the latest confrontation in a gang fued, or the latest in a series of unrelated “one off” events. They’re still in hospital.
        
        In Auckland at this stage, it seems you’re more likely to catch a stray bullet than catch covid.

        I’m pretty certain the police will know a lot about this shooting for them to say it’s an isolated event. Can’t include other non related crimes in it and say it’s not what they police claim because gangs are causing violence elsewhere, it’s obvious the police are talking about this case.

  Exactly, I have been to the fort street bar just off Queen street several times, never seen a shoot out from the bar, spent a night in the QE bar, full of islanders and Māori, told by the bouncers, we can’t guarantee your safety, asked the young guys straight up, are we all right here, they said of course, and we never worried once, but man, there’s was no guns

  Something that surprises me is that nothing these days is ever said about Joseph Schumpeter’s iconic work “Capitalism, Socialism and Democracy” (1942). He actually predicted that the administrative staff of corporations would become part of the same ideological echo chamber as government bureaucracy and activist institutions, leading to unholy alliances and the demise of liberal free market democracy as we know it. That is just one small part of the insights Schumpeter crammed into this major book. It is right up there with Hayek’s “The Road to Serfdom” as a must-read for anyone wishing to have a grounding in political insight other than leftist utopianism.

Steve Bannon on GB News yesterday said that President Trump welcomed the new trial as a chance to actually litigate the 2020 election. Did president Trump actually believe the election was stolen and did he have good reasons for that belief?

This is a welcome development in the sense that the 2020 election result has never been properly litigated in court. All the other courts have dismissed the charges on procedural grounds or have not been thoroughly litigated. I believe the evidence for massive election fraud in 2020 is overwhelming.
Now we will see.

  Trump does believe he won in 2020. The left have and still are covering up the fraud, the voting machines, the machines that would not accept larger and thicker paper, the night time ballot drops. I have seen the videos of this from security cameras.
  Jan 6th was a Trump rally. It was infiltrated by Govt Agencies. The word was out two weeks before Jan 6th. Trump supporters became a minority. Ray Epps and the FBI, Ray Epps President of the Oath Keepers, Proud Boys, BLM, the idiot with the horns, are a few of the known right wing groups.
  First videos I saw from Tucker Carlson showed the shambles. I said to my Partner, these are not Trump supporters at a rally. Trump supporters do not dress like that or act like that.

  That’s a really good point from Steve Bannon. Something else I hadn’t really understood until I heard Michelle Bachman say it on the latest Mark Steyn Show, is that on the fateful January 6 in the Capitol, several Republican electors were prepared to raise concerns about the election process. The Capitol security bustled everyone away into hidey-holes “for their own safety” and all of them succumbed to a narrative that this really was a dangerous insurrection. Very late in the day when the scene was clear again, they were herded back into the Chamber to conduct the crucial election certification vote, and none of them were prepared any longer, to press the point about their election concerns. Generally, far too many Republicans (who were shaky about Trump all along) were prepared to just go along with the narrative and ignore any existential threat to the very future of the Constitutional Republic, from the Democrat / Deep State assertion of raw political power.

  I remember watching the US election coverage on tv3 that night.
  Paul Henry and his panel of commentators rather dejectedly conceded that Trump was the victor. All the numbers and traditional indicators showed Trump was unassailable .
  
  Next thing they took a long break and came back on air looking very awkward telling us about Biden leading the vote.
  
  It was like someone rewound live tv.
  
  Very strange. Trump has a case that needs to be tested in court.
  Ironically , his latest indictment may give him that opportunity .

  2. IMHO some swing voters always want to support the side they see as winners. So in this case they will support the Nats.

I have a genuine question for some of you re your voting preferences. There seems to be a line pushed by some that they will not vote for any party that ignored the Wellington protest. Or they express the opposite – will only vote for a party or leader that opened a dialogue during the protest or has expressed sympathy for the protest subsequently.

Is this truly the only criteria you will vote on? Does nothing else matter?

I ask because voting for a party always involves some compromise. There is always a dead rat or two to swallow get most of what you want. Moral conservatives have to hold their nose if they want ACT’s economic reforms. Genuine conservationists vote Green but may dislike the communism they also end up with.

Is the vacc/mandate issue the only driver?

        No – it needs a proper post mortem.
        
        1/ Why did the vaccine get given a ”safe and effective” stamp by the NZ bureaucracy when there was no evidence of that especially in terms of long term side effects? In fact the standard Medsafe process declined to certify the Pfizer vaccine and it need to go to the Medicines Assessment Advisory Committee for authorisation.
        
        2/ Who sat on the Medsafe escalation group – the MAAC, that certified the vaccines as ”safe and effective”? And why did the decide to recommend the Pfizer vaccine for use in NZ?
        
        3/ Why was the Pandemic Response plan, which had been thoroughly reviewed and updated following the Late 2000’s swine flu epidemic, been thrown into the bin and not followed as soon Ms Ardern and Dr Bloomfield decided to declare a pandemic response?
        
        4/ What where the motivations for decisions the Government and Police took that led them to act illegally when issuing lockdown orders, threatening rides to the station for non compliance, and why did the Government pressure State Agencies to enact vaccine mandates via Health and Safety Act concerns? Why where mandates not tabled via enabling legislation in Parliament for proper scrutiny and debate?
        
        5/ Why was the MIQ process so poorly implemented and was it legal? Why were NZ citizens denied a right of return? And why did friends of the PM and government (DJ’s, Wiggles etc) get easy access to MIQ rooms and NZ citizens were degraded by going through ballots?
        
        Just a taste of questions that havent been answered and need a fully independent Royal Commission with a non restricting Terms of Reference, to investigate and report on.
        
        We can not have a repeat of the utter shambles of the COVID response again: it was inhuman, featured dreadful risk management assessment and response, had truly awful governance structures around the management of the process (Ms Ardern being often ”disappointed” things hadn’t been done) and featured utterly unacceptable propaganda techniques being used on the population to ensure compliance with blatantly obviously stupid rules and edicts.
        
        People wont let it go until its properly reviewed and people who lost there jobs, because they exercised their right to bodily autonomy, are apologised to and in some cases compensated.
        
        Disclaimer: I lost my job due to vaccine mandates. I don’t seek compensation for loss of income, because as a contractor I could be let go for no cause as part of the contract.
        
        However I do want an apology and some token monetary recognition of the stress losing a well paid job for exercising my personal rights under NZ law caused me.

  It’s not about “the vax” – it’s much deeper than that. It’s about how nearly all of them exposed themselves as people of very low character who were too chicken shit to want to step out of line with the fake regime “consensus.” They did the wrong thing, which is now indisputable, and they now won’t admit it. Again, this demonstrates their low character. They expect people to either not have noticed at the time or to have noticed but have since forgotten about it. I don’t think so.

    I won’t try to second guess what Seymour was thinking or what he is thinking now, but generally he seems to be a person of some integrity. He was clearly (albeit mistakenly) convinced of the efficacy of the vaccine and concerned about the dangers of the virus. He made it clear at the time that he thought the Government’s approach was wrong, but – I theorize – felt that it would nevertheless be wrong to undermine their efforts. What i do not understand is why he does not now want to admit he was misled – and why he is not being asked about it at the rallies around the country.

      I understand why there is no desire by the opposition parties to revisit the covid response because:
      
      1. Over 50% of voters supported the most expensive (and useless) covid response in the oecd.
      
      2. I assume opposition mps weren’t provided information such as the disastrous incidents of deadly side affects from the early covid batches which the Labour Party (who were very late to the vaccine party) mysteriously purchased and stuck unto the arms of our medical workforce and elderly.
      
      But I cannot understand why opposition parties aren’t asking questions about NZs ongoing significant excess mortality (numbers not seen since the Spanish flu in 1915).
      
      Hell even the WHO is publishing excess death data.

      If parliament was elected by STV from large, multimember electoral areas – e.g., nine or ten 12- and 13-seaters – our 120 personally voted-for and directly elected MPs would constitute “a plurality of substantively differing views engaged in an adversarial contest.”
      
      Not only would many of them be independents (as in Ireland), but a number of them would, at least as a sideline, be toeing their own line according to their own interests, both personal and electoral. If their party hierarchy didn’t like it and threw them out, they could stand as independents with a very real chance of being (re-)elected (again, as happens in Ireland).
      
      While there is no doubt that MMP is far superior to FPP, it, like all other electoral systems, pales in comparison with STV. STV in large electoral areas (with a ballot paper that facilitates voting in such areas) gives voters, collectively, the power to elect precisely who they want (given the candidates on offer). In effect, all MPs would have a political constituency within the geographical area from which they were elected, and could confidently conduct themselves, accordingly.
      
      Until we adopt STV in large electoral areas, our MPs will be little more than party voting fodder, with the List MPs being little more than party makeweights.

        That is not what I’m saying. STV does not remove the party system, nor does it remove the necessity for someone to be able to command a majority in the House.
        
        Coalition deals will still be done, but sometimes also with independent MPs who might be advocating for a specific consideration. In Ireland, which has a more “local” tradition, there can be as many as 10 or 12 independents, out of 158 MPs. In New Zealand, we would likely have one or two (and not necessarily immediately upon adoption).
        
        The point is, STV gives voters much more power, and forces MPs / parliament not to treat them as a necessary evil who have to be (at least) acknowledged once every three years and can then be largely ignored.
        
        Isn’t that what we want? After all, they’re supposed to work for us, aren’t they? You’re the one here who is promoting citizens’ assemblies (which I support), so presumably you want the People to have a more effective say in how this country is governed.
        
        I have no doubt that if my version of STV had been in operation over the last three years, things would have played out very differently. For example, the parliament protesters would have been listened to, rather than ignored, and commenters like ClanMcleod and krazykiwi would not have become as outraged as they are.

        Independents are single-issue politicians, elected by a quota of voters in their multimember constituency to promote a specific issue, or to give the party they left a bit of a rev-up. In your ignorance of how STV works, you have put forward a completely nonsensical proposition.
        
        My point about (binding, Swiss-style) citizens’ referenda – not assemblies; my apologies – which I also support (and have said so here, more than once), is that we both want the People to have more say, both through their representatives and by means of citizen’s referenda (both of us) / assemblies (me).
        
        We are not that far apart. It’s just that you have got caught up about the fact that, under STV, which gives every voter a powerful vote, independents, when certain political and local imperatives are in play, can be elected by a quota of voters to advance a particular issue. That is a good thing, something that would never happen under MMP.
        
        For example, let’s say 3 Waters is not wanted by a majority of the People. In their large electoral area, there will be 10 National candidates, 10 Labour candidates, etc., but only about five each would be elected – it’s proportional representation. The People would rank-order the anti-3 Waters candidates, 1 to 12 (or more), putting the candidates of their preferred party ahead of the other candidates, before rank-ordering the pro-3 Waters candidates, say, 13 to whatever. That way, they are helping to elect the anti- candidates over the pro- candidates. The same could be done for vaccinations policy.
        
        That is a simple example of how STV in large electoral areas is superior to any other electoral system. Rather than persist in misrepresenting me, you could perhaps do some reading.

    That’s almost a third of the adult population who recognised that whether you believed the hype and lies about the jabs or not, the actions being taken to compel compliance were beyond the pale.
    
    No, sadly 70% of the population succumbed to the propaganda and psyop that was inflicted on the country and accepted these breaches of human rights, either by supporting them or via their silence.
    
    Currently we have zero representation in parliament, yet National/Act supporters are dumbfounded that Peters might be getting some traction by making some noises about the abuses inflicted and the co-governance nightmare?
    
    I’m no political expert, but ffs, this is a glaring vacuum that was begging for Peters to exploit.
    
    I haven’t decided who I’m voting for, but the stubborn refusal of Act and National to even acknowledge covid even happened, let alone acknowledge those worst affected, makes it a very large dead rat that I’m not sure I can swallow.
    
    There’s plenty of time to address this if the relevant people can grow a spine.

    Some people went along with the madness just to be able to go to a cafe for a coffee. Couldn’t be arsed fighting the tyranny because I wouldn’t be able to go to a cafe.
    I haven’t heard any of them apologising! So while 30% of population supported the protest most of them went along with the tyranny anyway. It isn’t surprising to me that the pollies won’t apologise when there are so few people in the country with a real backbone.
    
    My children had the backbone to stand up for their principles – made for a pretty shitty time – not allowed to go to school breakup pool party, no sports, no library visits, no movies, no swimming pools, sitting on the sidelines of society for a summer while others got their papers to be able to have a coffee at a cafe.

Much of today’s politics is about popularity rather than policy, possibly because people are realistic enough to know that whatever a government promises to implement very little will be done, it will always cost much more, and that will be sucked out of their pockets as additional tax. I have taken against arrogant supercilious politicians and I include James Shaw and Julianne Genter in that group. They are no longer true green politicians of the Rod Donald variety.

  I agree with Capt M that single issue voters are not looking at the big picture. Being a great supporter of the initial protest in Wellington I am not swayed by the position of the various parties as there are far bigger “big picture” issues to vote on.
  
  I shall vote for ACT as I believe their core values of limited government spending, personal responsibility and personal freedom are closest to my core values. They don’t get everything right but do better than the rest. They also have a better record on execution of policy – take charter schools which was a great facility for Maori and Pacifica who wanted to get educated.

  I am for the first time a single issue voter: my vote is for the party that promises a select committee inquiry into the vaccine injured and dead. Everyone acknowledges there are vaccine deaths and injuries. There is debate over the extent. The injured and the families of the dead have been marginalised and dismissed.
  
  For me, it is a simple test of humanity.
  
  Absent that humanity, I can’t give you my vote.
  
  I know there is much at stake. There always is. But to me our basic humanity is at stake and that trumps everything.

    Centre right parties can leave irreversible improvements in our quality of life by investing in infrastructure. Labour can’t dig up Fibre broad band, roads of national significance (National had laid out their credible plan for more) and the NZ cycle trails.
    
    I am amazed ACT aren’t advocating citizens referenda (the excellent and absolutely vital TOW referendum excepted) to cement their policies in future!

  Tom, best voters put aside the protests because compliance runs deep in the Kiwi psyche. Witness how our larget city’s population simply rolled over for 100 days by command of Jacinda. Remember how the inane rules were issued about running back to your house to ablute rather than infect your neighbour? Many Aucklanders complied like trained seals while meantime businesses closed up and families were damaged. One section of society rebelled and were allowed to carry on regardless while another section was described as ‘filth’ and were eventually arrested.

  Tomtoddy – you are talking about what have been the worst and most destructive policies imposed on innocent citizens by any government in NZ history in the last century. It was supported by all 121 politicians in parliament. That fact alone should be of concern to anyone who genuinely believes in democracy and freedom of choice and speech.
  
  These policies destroyed the lives of thousands of people and negatively impacted the lives, friendships and relationships of hundreds of thousands.
  
  I won’t even get into detail re the physical harms done that will be with us for many years to come.
  Suffice to say, anyone who thinks they got the jab and because they feel fine right now they dodged a bullet, might get a bit of a shock at some point in the future. I truly hope they don’t, but it’s already happening.
  Turbo cancers and blood related issues are increasing through the roof. “Died suddenly” is a thing but of course correlation is not causation. /s
  
  This wasn’t just another poor tax policy.
  
  The issues raised by the protesters in Wellington are not the only driver, but they are front and centre for many and rightly so.
  If you permit this level of abuse to slide quietly into the rear view mirror without a murmur, then don’t complain when it’s revisited on you in a few years to save the ‘climate’ or any other ’emergency’ the government of the day decides fits the bill.
  
  Acknowledging the abuse doesn’t require a groveling apology or admission of guilt.
  
  Watch this simple and truthful acknowledgment by one of the few honest politicians in Canada. It’s just over a minute long. She isn’t apologising, she isn’t begging for forgiveness.

      My experience of today’s maternity wards is – arrive, have baby and a few hours, later pack up and go home. This is based on births of several grandchildren in the past few years.
      Indeed it was different a couple of decades or more ago when mothers may well have been there long enough to get to know one another.

  Funnily enough, despite my consistent opposition to most of the Chinese Lung Rot measures of the government, it’s the race rules being written into law that I wrote about, I guess this will be my single issue in 2023.
  
  And that’s not so much because of Labour, Green and Te Paiti Maori pushing this stuff but because of the likes of what former National MP’s like Chris Finlayson have said on the issue – and about their own voters:
  
  “I simply say to people, one, there’s a new regime, get with it folks; two, Rome wasn’t built in a day.”
  
  While he says there’s room for robust debate about the co-governance model between the Crown and iwi and hapū, Finlayson’s advice for dealing with the “sour right” behind the racist, resentful rhetoric: “We’ve just got to leave those losers behind and move on. They don’t like tangata whenua. They dream of a world that never was and never could be,” he says.
  
  As I said in the post:

  My Scottish and Irish ancestors lived for hundreds of years tugging their forelocks to Irish landowners and Scottish Lairds, escaped that, and neither I nor my kids are going to repeat that process with the likes of Prince Willie Jackson and Princess Nanaia Mahuta.
  
  And the thing is that Finlayson fits in so perfectly with them and their born-to-rule arrogance. That wealthy Khandallah childhood; the Latin and French majors; the LLM and mixing in the highest echelons of our legal and political circles, not to mention the leaders of our various great iwi. No wonder National lapped him up and loved him. He could elegantly stick it to Labour and others on these issues.
  
  While all the time he was basically on the same side as them.
  
  And now in keeping with that Olympian attitude of superiority, in his mind the issue has already been decided by The Powers That Be – meaning the political elite of both National and Labour, plus our academic and legal communities – and now it’s just a matter of getting on with it.
  
  Elections? Democracy? Pfft. I would not now be at all surprised if he uttered then same phrase as Willie Jackson about this nation, that “We’re in a consensus-type democracy now. This is not a majority democracy.” Consensus is one of those words which, when I hear it, tells me I’m about to be lied to.
  
  I’ve never been a single issue voter in my life, and in this case it may be two issues, this and the C-19 shit, but both because they have one thing in common: lies and a lack of trust in “my own side”.

  Goal 1: cast this lot out.
  Goal 2: real action on eliminating racism in law
  
  That’s pretty much it. A number of other desirable things will (should) flow from those that believe in and act on goal 2.
  
  At 61, I’ll even vote for a party that increases the eligibility age for super, if I can demonstrably see policies that provide an overall improvement in nz society and economy.

  The thing that stunned me the most was finding out that our basic freedoms weren’t valued any higher than a pinch of shit, and _nobody_ seemed that bothered about it. No politicians, not the media, not even the judiciary. I still remember seeing that Police Commisioner tell us with a wee smirk on his face that people might wind up cooling their heels in a cell rather than on a couch if they dared to stray too far from home. Frickin unbelievable.
  This all happened when we already knew that the disease wasn’t all that deadly to the vast majority of us.
  As best as I can tell, we still don’t have any politicians pushing for any changes to make it harder for leaders to strip our basic rights from us.
  Consequently, I don’t place great stock in _any_ of the current bunch of politicians. Some people might think I’m a little bitter and twisted about this…

This is the language in the Telegraph:

A matcha latte? The Net explains: “A matcha latte consists of matcha powder (made from the finely-ground leaves of certain green tea plants), water, and milk.”

  Payments on account for future settlements is not uncommon. National did that in 1994 for both Tainui and Ngai Tahu. It is helpful to progress the settlement. In those two cases the settlements were done in 1995 and in 1996.

    Wayne Mapp’s “payments on account” are top-ups for Ngai Tahu and Tainui tribes, such as the $370 million to them in 2018.
    
    The top-up was triggered by a “relativity clause” in the original 1994 Treaty contracts. Once total tribal settlements reached $1 billion, both tribes became entitled to a percentage of all future settlements.
    
    Ngai Tahu became entitled to 16.1 per cent and Waikato-Tainui to 17 per cent of all future settlements to other tribes, in 1994 dollars.
    
    Former National Minister Chris Finlayson (a list MP from 2005 to 2019), in his pre-Parliament career negotiated the sweetheart settlement for Ngai Tahu. For nine years he was both Attorney-General and Minister for Treaty Settlements.

    Unless data is collected using the same, or equivalent, methods it cannot be used in like-for-like comparisons.
    
    Do you really think that data captured by a guy using a thermometer hanging off a rope is equivalent to data collected by satellite from 200km up in space?
    
    Do you really think that airport temperatures gathered in the 1940s with grass runways is equivalent to modern temperatures gathered next to a building belching air conditioning – standing on tarmac?
    
    None of this can be “corrected” with models (what is normally done), because the models are based on guesswork.
    
    When we come up with a new way of doing measurements (eg. some new funky measurement from a satellite), we need at least 30 years of data gathering before we have a good data set to work with.
    
    Measuring consistently is one of the most fundamental bases of science. If your measurements are crap, your science is crap.

  So, how did we measure these temperatures way back then, before the satellites took over? I’m old enough to remember…
  
  The thermometers were usually located somewhere on the sea cooling water suction strainer housing, way down in the “Dark Hole” that was the ship’s bilge. A quick glance downwards was all that was needed to record the temperature. No great accuracy was required so any parallax errors were simply ignored. In the later years, after an infrared thermometer was invented, the measurements were a bit more accurate, but not necessarily all that much, as even a short deviation from the “spot” would result in a temperature variation and not just of a fraction of a degree.

  Actually, this is what the Copernicus website tells me…
  “with an absolute accuracy of better than 0.3 K, globally, both for a single sample and when averaged over areas of 0.5° longitude by 0.5° latitude, under certain cloud-free conditions (i.e. >20% cloud-free samples within each area)”
  
  The article then tries to suggest that the record goes back 150 years, but it’s nonsense to suggest they had any idea at all what the global average sea temperature was when there were so few ships travelling the Southern ocean decades ago. The Copernicus people argue that although the satellite record is short, they think it was cooler before then, so the satellite record records are _probably_ warmer than all other times during that last century or so. No mention of other warm periods that occurred before then, when Greenland was green, when forests grew closer to the Arctic circle, when the Arctic actually was ice free at times, when rivers in Europe dried up, etc.

No vac/mandate is not the only driver but a very important driver for many. I have spoken to many people some supported the vaccine others opposed it. All have the same concern. Our MPs without exception were a bunch of sheep in their support of dictatorial instructions which impinged on people’s rights and their abuse of people expressing their democratic rights. Thus our democracy has been undermined by our own representatives. Comments such as ” just like the nazis” are common from ordinary Kiwis not conspiracy nutters. Democracy is under threat when good people do nothing.

Here’s a thought….
According to a bunch of people, including our current Govt, NZ has ‘systemic racism’ against Māori in our health system, in our schools, prisons, courts, police, etc.
So, if only 2% of Kiwis have 50% or more Māori bloodlines, that means about 15% of Kiwis are choosing to identify as Māori instead of whatever the other ethnic bloodlines they have. In some cases people with less than 10% Māori choose to identify as a Māori.
So why would you willingly do that if that meant you were systemically discriminated against as you went about your day????

In fact, we are bending over backwards to give Maori an advantage over non-Maori, yet they still can’t get it together. It’s something about Maori, not the rest of us. This is why no amount of “programs” and extra resources will fix anything. Disparities between people and groups of people are baked into the cake. Egalitarianism is an ideological phantom. If we reject race realism, we need all of these bs confected excuses to explain what can be explained much more easily, but in a way that is offensive to liberal dogma.

A top Gisborne scientist has retained the support of the council he represents despite posting vitriol about the government.

The posts were made using a social media account which at one point displayed his senior position at the organisation.….

The content dates back to at least November 2022 and includes an underlying theme of disdain for the current government.

It includes allegations the government is racist, radical, anti-democratic, and home to bullies and corrupt ministers.

Cave also claimed the Mongrel Mob was campaigning for Labour and called for an end to Three Waters, the Tenancy Tribunal, ute tax and a “bloated government”.

“Wish we had John Key now rather than the idiots currently in charge,” a 29 December post read.

  How very disappointing to see the Gisborne Herald publishing such a one-sided hit-job on a hard-working, highly qualified public servant.
  
  I had to read 13 paragraphs into this article before I discovered that Dr Cave may not be the author of all the social media tweets that have been complained about by “some X (formerly Twitter) users”.
  
  It seems the Local Democracy Reporter has not directly asked Dr Cave about the tweets and has not asked Dr Cave to provide some balanced context for this article.
  
  Now I don’t know Dr Cave personally, but I am very familiar with his scientific publications and work on landslips in the Tairawhiti district and am also aware of some of the work and assistance he has been providing to locals affected by slips and forestry slash.
  
  I can’t help but think there is a political dimension to this hit job on Dr Cave.
  
  No-one knows the landscape and soil susceptibility of this region in such detail as Dr Cave. As such an authority he may well be a thorn in the side of folks who wish to carry on with the unsustainable land-use practices this unstable region has experienced.

At the end of March 2023, the Minister and
Associate Minister of Health commissioned the
Hauora Māori Advisory Committee to undertake a high-level assessment of the early progress and plans of Te Aka Whai Ora (the Māori Health Authority) to ensure it is meeting expectations, commitments and priorities set by Cabinet. The committee’s final report was given to Minister Ayesha Verrall on 5 May 2023.

Dr Verrall then sat on the report, refusing repeated requests to release it. The report was finally released on Thursday afternoon; here it is:

You don’t have to be a brain surgeon to understand why Dr Verrall sat on this report for so long. It is absolutely damning, with criticisms of the MHA on almost every page. Dr Shane Reti has summed it up:

An independent report into the Māori Health Authority clearly shows the failures of more bureaucracy, National’s Health spokesperson Dr Shane Reti says.

“There was a reason the Health Minister Dr Ayesha Verrall left the damning Māori Health Authority report sitting on her desk for months and silently released it late yesterday – it’s revealed failure from all corners of this third health entity.

“Since the creation of the Māori Health Authority over a year ago, the report found no overarching plan for activities, timeframes, resources, accountability or performance.

“Labour’s bureaucratic health restructure has cost taxpayers half a billion dollars, and for there to be no plans or details for a whole year on how to better improve Māori health is shocking. No other public service would be allowed to operate like this.

“A further revelation is that the Māori Health Authority was transferring staff from Health NZ because of their ethnicity, instead of staff with the necessary skills and expertise.

“No one disputes that Māori health outcomes need to improve, but to take staff based on their ethnicity and not on the skills and talent they could bring to actually improve Māori health outcomes is quite simply appalling.

There only seems to be mild criticism of the rushed and confusing nature of some secondary legislation (traffic lights/mandates)

What does this mean? Do we still have public health care in NZ? Has this young man been prioritised off the list due to the racial equity adjustor?

“It wants those who have waited longer than a year treated by the end of December, except for orthopaedic patients.

As of June 30, a total of 1662 orthopaedic patients had waited longer than a year for treatment.”

So what is the ethnic breakdown of those who are waiting longer. We are told some groups are waiting longer and it’s unequal and therefore there is race based priority. So they have a duty to either report the racial breakdown of those having long wait times.

Is anyone else observing delays in rendering kiwiblog.co.nz content?

It seems to churn away for 20-30 seconds and then the content comes back.

Interestingly we had a similar issue at work last week, that came down to a domain controller upgrade that meant requests previously accepted on ports were no longer, and it taking that long for timeouts to allow fallback to an accepted port.

But anyhow… Seems to have been happening for 1-2 weeks…

Now it’s “artificial intelligence” translation that’s a bone of contention for Maori-language advocates.

Kaipara council was planning to release a Maori-language report of its plan, translated from English by ChatGPT, and this has upset a councillor.

Councillor Pera Paniora said: “You can’t replace consultation with people, you know mana whenua, you cannot substitute that with artificial intelligence.”

Internet services such as YouTube are carrying frequent comments on how ChatGPT and Bing’s alternative can help people learn languages. It’s being praised for it’s high “interactivity” in this task, that is in the interaction it creates with the human user.

Allowing pupils and students to play with ChatGPT and Maori would very likely do far more for knowledge of the indigenous language, than all the force-feeding of it by State TV, Red Radio, and subsidised newspapers and web sites.

HAS FEMINISM AND GAY ACTIVISM BIRTHED THE TRANS MOVEMENT?

Listened to Jordan Peterson interview Kelly-Jay Keen – woman’s rights activist. I can’t help thinking that the Trans movement is actually the Frankensteins monster child of previous activist movements – in particular the feminist movement and the gay rights movement.

A good friend and strong feminist used to encourage us to bring up our children in a gender confused manner. Their feminist ideology led them to believe that differences between men and women were mainly due to nurture not nature. But this is no more true than saying a man who believes he is a woman is a woman! Men and women are different! It is also the feminist movement that has continually attacked male only spaces as symbols of the patriarchy eg pressuring Scouts and Men’s Clubs to include female members. Schools have become feminised and as a result our boys are growing up feminised. In their bid to rid the world of toxic masculinity the feminists have been destroying masculinity.

Then we have the gay movement. Not content with eliminating discrimination they have also fought to claim the religious institution of marriage – a man and woman bonded together under God. For this to include same sex relationships is as ideologically incomprehensible to a person with a religious view of marriage as it is to accept that a man – a person born with a penis – is a woman if that is how they see themselves.

K-J Keen as a woman’s rights activist is asking that woman’s only spaces be respected. A position I agree with. Unfortunately, with the damage done by the feminist movement, intent on destroying masculinity, there aren’t many protectors and defenders left to standup to the evil trans clowns.

Our world views shape the world we live in and it isn’t hard to see how one ideology spawns another. Unless we correct fundamental flaws in our ideology then we will continue to see them producing Frankensteins monsters. John Cadogan does from pretty good YT videos, but he deffo has some odd things to say about “Climate Change!”.
In this one, with supreme Aussie confidence, he claims that “Climate Change!” is “upon us”.
What does that even mean? Is he one of these people who disagrees with the IPCC and sees evidence of increasing/decreasing droughts/fires/rainfall (you name it) wherever he looks?
I’ve picked on him, but he’s not the only one. I really don’t get how otherwise sensible people make the leap from FF are warming the planet a bit to “‘Climate Change!’ is upon us! and it’s an emergency!”.
It’s pretty obvious to me that our policies allegedly designed to fight “Climate Change!” are far more of a problem than a wee bit of gentle warming spread out over many decades.

Talking to the owner of NW earlier…he was saying the uptick in sales of Rat Traps & Baits this week has been amazing!
He put it down to the number of morons who’ve been sucked into using those little ‘food-scrap-bins’ the council supplied.
No surprises there of course. Filthy germ ridden things.

    The waste disposal will chop stuff up, but not liquidise it. It all goes to the waste water treatment plant where a significant proportion of the stuff you put down the sink has to be milliscreened out so the “soft” stuff can go through to the sedimentation tanks.
    
    Just adds load to the system that ends up being dumped in landfill anyway.

Is this going to happen in NZ? I am retired now and my vaccination status was not recorded by my employer. I was jabbed twice to comply with Herr Ardern’s silly passport. My employer did not give a fuck. He has had the normal vaccines that we all have, but no Covid vax, and he even rejects the flu vax! Never been sick in his life. I told him he was the carrier, the infected asymptomatic one. He laughed.
Anyway the Australian Govt wants employee Covid details to be destroyed. Why? really, why would they do this? Will the Australian Govt do the same?

I’m pretty sure I don’t agree with everything Julian says, but there’s no way I could twist what he says into what TDP tell us he says. There’s some disinformation being spread alright, and I suspect my tax dollars are paying for it.

My opinion: T.Williams is overrated, also N.Laulala .Cane’s captaincy was non-existent in the first half, Damien McKenzie should be nowhere near an ABs team and should go and play league.
Great 2nd half when the experienced players came on.

Well I’m feeling assured the cops have this under control and central Auckland is a safe place where there’s hardly any chance of being hit by a stray bullet. The interview with the lead detective was cringe worthy and a waste of time, kept saying he can’t answer due to sensitivities and seemed to be pausing before answering, was he being fed answers in an ear piece?
