Systemic Racism in the All Blacks…….
I was once again disappointed to miss out on All Black selection yesterday.

I mostly blame the systemic racism that is obviously used when selecting players. There was a disproportionately low number of people of European descent selected. Furthermore, there were no Chinese, Japanese, Indian, or any immigrants from the Middle Eastern Countries. What on earth must the UN think about this terrible treatment of our immigrants?

Clearly, the selectors have favoured Pacific Islanders and a few Maori players – that is clearly racist. No doubt they will defend their selections, as always, by saying these players are bigger, faster and more skilled. But that just shows how deeply racist the entire rugby development system is. It is set up to fail us Europeans as it doesn’t allow the development of our children in a culturally sensitive way.

I think NZR needs to urgently implement a diversity program and ensure the All Black team is balanced by race – and while you’re at it also by gender (all 110 of them), hair colour (only 1 Ginger selected), and height (not many short people). We may not win the World Cup, but we will be recognized around the world as a leading example in the fight against racism.

  I always remember the brilliant Stephen Fry asking a QI question:
  ‘What’s unfair about the prizemoney at Wimbledon?’
  
  The answer SF wanted, of course, was that in these days of equal prizemoney for Men and Women the Men have to play a lot more Tennis (best of 5 sets in Singles as opposed to best of 3) to become the champion and collect the lion’s share of the loot.
  
  But I chortled at comedian Jack De’s response:

  Would hold off on the praise for a moment though. He also writes that he want’s NZ to be 100% renewable by 2030. Don’t get me wrong – nothing wrong with such a vision but it fails at first contact with reality. Unless you like periods of no electricity generation during the year when the hydro lakes are low, the wind isn’t blowing or it’s overcast (and heaven forbid all three hit at the same time), then this really isn’t such a great vision when you think about it. Renewables can work, possibly / probably without the efficiency of coal & gas plants, but due to this inherent flaw, that they won’t work all the time, to my mind, there will always be a need for backup systems. 100% renewables looks to be a fools errand.

  Good to see you showing some scepticism re the govt’s claims on the wind/solar consents.
  
  However we could do with a lot more of it. (scepticism).
  
  For example-
  
  Why don’t you ask what the true output of these solar/ wind farms will be once nights, cloudy days and windless days are included in the calculation?
  
  Why don’t you ask what measures (in the existing power grid) will be necessary to compensate for the intermittent nature of such power generation?
  
  Why don’t you ask about the true “renewable” capacity of these energy sources when many scientific studies show wind turbines for example generate more CO2 emissions during their construction than they will ever “save” during their productive lifetime?
  
  Why don’t you ask about the environmental impact of the construction of solar panels and wind turbines, and how they will be disposed of at the end of their usable life?
  
  I read many reports from the media complaining of the contempt that they have to endure from the public.
  
  Maybe if you started doing your job that contempt would decline. Journalism is meant to be about skepticism and holding the powerful to account. If you were fully committed to those principles you could do so much more.
  
  You don’t ask any of the very important questions listed above. The story you wrote today is fine on the misleading claims about the consents, but skims over the big lies of the govt (very powerful) and the environmental lobby (also very powerful).
  
  Bring us truth Lloyd. Surely that is not too much to ask.

    Actual outputs form wind are i understand somewhere between 20 and 40% of rated capacity I would hazard a guess that Solar is closer to the 40% but still below 1/2 rated output. Backup for these intermittent sources has to be something that can be turned on and off rapidly like hydro (open a valve and the power output instantly starts to rise) the base load will be taken up by things like coal and gas as these take time to ramp up, so basically there is likely little increase in renewables compared to the claimed figures.

      The solar panel issue was being discussed on kerre Woodhams show this morning and a roofing chap called in – if you have a Gerard or colour steel roof which makes up around 70% of the market, if you put solar panels on top of these, you lose your roofing warranty …. Panels stop the grime being washed away not to mention potential holes on instalment

      Just got my production report for July from my small 3kw system.
      Total Produced = 248.6KHW
      July hours 31 days x 24 hours
      246.6KWH/744hours =0.3KW per hour so the system is only 10% effecient based on a full day. In northland, admittedly July is going to be poor but 10% was a little shock. Feel free to correct my calculations.

Regular readers may recall that Kellie Jay Keen is returning to Auckland on 20 September to attend the court appearance of the person who assaulted her during her last visit in March. She is also planning another event to celebrate the rights of women.

She now reports that the New Zealand Police have contacted her. They have advised her not to travel to New Zealand because it is not safe for her to do so.

It seems that the Police are positioning for what is likely to be another riot. If folk are seriously injured, or worse, the Police can say “Well we told her to stay away”.

This action by the Police may make it easier for Immigration to refuse her entry. They can justify it on the basis that the Police have determined that her presence in the country is likely to lead to violence.

  Surely it is the role of the government and Police in this situation to ensure that those they think might cause trouble are clear that further breaches of the peace will not be tolerated.

        She does not have a right to come to NZ, but she does have a right not to be discriminated against based on her political or ethical opinions. That is the real issue here. Whether giving in to violence threatened by those who disagree with her views is different from discriminating against her based on those views.

  Bene: Quite so…a couple of generations ago a certain rugby football team did a tour here. Violent protests were guaranteed well ahead of time, with a very real potential for loss of life.
  
  Although there had been political manoevering to engineer a cancellation of the tour, when It became a reality, there was no question of it not going ahead because it “wasn’t safe” – the police did their job and kept the peace as best they could.
  
  They were 25 or 30 “jocks”. This is a 5 foot nothing woman FFS. Disgraceful if she is refused entry.

  She has every right to attend court and see justice done given she is the alleged victim of an assault.
  
  Commissioner Coster is not fit for his job and should resign as this directive would have come across his desk and he is basically saying he can’t keep the peace for lawful activity in the face of a thugs making threats
  
  The sooner we get rid of Labour and National and Act reset Polices governing policies by having a chat with Costers replacement the better. Police need to protect the law abiding not give cover to thugs todo what they like, whether gang members or political activists.

      The irony is, through police inaction at Albert Park they have made a rod for their own backs. She is only coming back because she was assaulted, and the police look like cowardly inept fools because they say they can’t protect the right of women to speak in public.

  State sanctioned violence if it happens. The NZ police are doing NOTHING to protect freedom of movement and free speech in particular.
  
  I am horrified at just how quickly this country has descended into what is becoming a socialist hellhole. I’ve mentioned leaving NZ, it becomes more appealing every day. I’ll see what the election brings.

      Nickc2 – it’s a big decision, early days and hoping it doesn’t come to that. But looking around casually currently, Australian actions during covid weren’t encouraging.
      Possibly somewhere in SE Asia? All depending on entry requirements etc.

    Anecdotes are not evidence but in my limited circle of friends and close colleagues, I’ve heard similar sentiments expressed, so I don’t think you are alone in your concerns.
    
    I’ve considered it and had some good early discussions – I’ve decided to wait and see how things go in October. Just be aware that Aussie is not a land of milk and honey though – some things are better here (even marginally), and a lot of things are better there. It all depends on your own circumstances I guess.
    
    Point is though, at least in my group of contacts, you are not alone in your views.

  It’s subtle yet coordinated action to keep her out of the country. We know what they tried last time. A media that lied about her every night on the network news. Politicians that amped up the misinformation and hateful rhetoric. Legal attempts to have her denied a visa. And finally a large baying mob that assaulted a small group of mostly middle-aged women for having the temerity to exercise their freedom of speech.
  
  And they’ll do it all over again this time, and it’ll be even more devious and disgusting.
  
  NZ men need to man up because the blokes who wear frocks masquerading as women certainly will be as they attempt to enforce the thug’s veto.

  – People are being employed for fewer hours

I’ve been thinking lately about the way technology is going, and how it caters to others having control over every aspect of our lives. Here are some examples:

Transport: Petrol/diesel cars vs EV’s and Public Transport.
The former is hard for others to control, whereas with EV’s and PT, some authoritarian figure can simply turn them off remotely without notice.
If you need some examples: when Russia first invaded Ukraine, there was a public call out for Tesla to remotely disable all the Teslas in Russia. Tesla has the ability to do this.
Also, remember Tesla video cameras were recording customers and this data was seen by Tesla employees. Teslas (and probably other brands too) can track your every move.
What next??

Firewood and gas for heating, vs electricity.
Firewood and gas is hard to control, (Simply buy gas bottles if your reticulated supply is cut off) whereas ‘they’ can turn off your electricity remotely without warning.

Cash vs Electronic Payments
Cash is basically impossible to control, whereas your electronic funds can be tracked, frozen, disappeared, controlled, without warning.

Information.
Encyclopaedias used to be our main source of information. Now we go online, where the information can be twisted and controlled depending on someone else’s agenda.

Communications.
Face to face and handwritten letters are hard to control, but electronic comms are easy to track, intercept, spy on, and shut down.

There seems to be a distinct pattern of control here. Is this ability-to-control simply a by-product of the way technology was going to progress naturally anyway? Or is this deliberate?

Anyway, certainly makes you stop and think…

They can’t afford the very best chartered accountants, corporate lawyers, political advisors etc. that the mega-corps can.
      
      People who believe otherwise usually also believe in the fantasy that we can “make the rich pay more”. As the rich are predominately business owners and top-level management/executive class, they just pass on the extra cost to their customers in the form of more expensive goods and services.

      I was overseas at the the Time that Winston as Foreign Affairs Ministers suggested people head home as soon as possible or prepare for a long stay AS AIRLINES WOULD CUT?STOP flights back to NZ.
      
      I chose to stay as indeed that is what happened.
      Also the prices of trips to NZ trebled as airlines started their empty seat strategy ie each passenger would have an empty seat each side.

Well who would have thought…….
That Fonterra setting up dairy farms in China would lead to the Chinese working to supply their own milk… to the extent that they are almost now in a state of excess milk
(I remember reading a story re a farm in China on the Russian border. 10,000 cows and the food (grass ?) being supplied from Russia across the border river.)

And who would have thought that supplying Kiwi cuttings to S.America would result in S.America becoming the largest same-season supplier and competitor………….
(I recall sitting in what was then a hotel (its now a old age home) in Te Puke listening to a couple of kiwifruit farmers hosting a couple of S.Americans and arranging the volume of cuttings they required)

What did Finterra and Zespri (or whatever they were called then) think they were up to? Ive always said that many New Zealand companies are run by certifiable idiots. The damage the Fonterra farms in China have done to the N.Z the Dairy industry is immense. It doesn’t matter now that there maybe smarter people in charge – the historical damage is done.

The next industry to face annihilation is the wine export industry. That name China comes up again (although I don’t think anyone specific is to blame here for showing the Chinese how to do it. The Chinese have gone overseas and worked in wine areas all around the world – and have then returned back to China – to make wine). North West of Beijing (or Peking in Cantonese) on the edge of a desert are hundreds of hectares of vines and wineries of a standard as good as any other. The bulk wine area of France (Languedoc) is the first target but the Chinese have already stated that they will match volume and quality of Bordeaux in 10 years. Based on their progress with dairy (legal) and Gold kiwifruit (illegal) one would be stupid (as in the original Fonterra leaders) to doubt them. The only thing that will hold them up is false labeling and/or incorrect contents which they are fond of doing from time to time.

  During Fonterra’s overseas milk pools phase, I heard rumours their Asian team were saying New Zealand milk would be increasingly irrelevant.
  I don’t think Fonterra’s contribution to China’s milk production is significant, the Chinese farms are in line with European and North American models and Fonterra’s farms there could not run profitably.
  The real problem is their Chinese escapades cost suppliers hundreds of millions of dollars before the plug was pulled.

      China is the world’s biggest grower of apples. It grows nearly 46 million tonnes a year, compared with NZ’s output of around 600,000 tonnes. Last year China exported the equivalent of twice NZ’s total apple harvest.
      
      Given that apples originated in neighbouring Central Asia, it would be suprising if Chinese hadn’t been growing apples for a thousand or two years.

      Kiwifruit originated in China. It’s the new strains bred that NZ shines in, and other countries also now farm.
      
      Similarly with Pinus radiata, our most harvested tree. Originally the Monterey Pine, now endangered in its homeland of California. NZ scientists bred it into a super-fast grower that’s now cultivated in Chile, Australia and many other trade competitors of NZ.
      
      The advantage of invention, of being “first in” doesn’t last.

Cheap products from Asia are under threat, says the Wall Street Journal.

A reporter finds that Asian young people by and large no longer want to work in factories.

Paul Norriss, the British co-founder of the Vietnam garment factory, UnAvailable, based in Ho Chi Minh City, told the newspaper: “There’s nowhere left on the planet that’s going to be able to give you what you want. People are going to have to change their consumer habits, and so are brands.”

In response to a labour shortage, Asian factories have had to increase wages and adopt sometimes costly strategies t from improving cafeteria fare to building kindergartens for workers’ children.

That might make Western people less guilty about cheap imported clothing.

If it does become increasingly hard to source from Asia, could some local production resume? Or do NZ youngsters also shy away from factory work?

Regardless, rising labour costs may spur automation and innovation.

  Capitalism working well then. The cheaper cost of living and lower worker productivity were temporary advantages of non-western countries. As their people become wealthier and more productive, those advantages erode and we return to the situation we were in when clothes were made by hand the world over – it’s cheapest to make them close to home out of locally sourced materials.
  
  And since they will cost more, we’ll have to start looking after them again. Perhaps even mending them.

  Having done business in Asia/Chine since early 2000s.
  This has been happening as the countries lift their people out of Poverty.
  From 2007 to 2010 one of my Chinese suppliers went from having up to a 1000 people a DAY! knocking on their factory door looking for work any sort of work.
  To
  Providing accommodation and meals to workers(along with increased payrates) with maybe 1 or 2 people knocking daily on their doors.
  
  PS. They employed some 4,000 workers.

Te Pūkenga and the Ministry of Health recently (27 July) released their research on trans and non-binary inclusive maternity care and, tucked away in the back as if to avoid scrutiny, guidelines for maternity health providers. The guidelines recommend the removal of “cisnormativity” from maternity healthcare in New Zealand and cost $180,000 of your money.

I would have thought that if a trans-man presented to the local maternity provider, they would be treated with the same care and attention that a cis-woman would…as the trans-man possesses the bits and bobs that nurture a developing fetus up to and beyond its birth.

So fill yer boots, it doesn’t affect anybody else in the slightest, including those whose race you are identifying yourself into. That would be a good and desirable society.

In this world people cannot be allowed to identify with whatever race they wish, because by doing so they become entitled to benefits and privileges that aren’t available to everybody.
  
  And this is why self-identification in gender can’t be allowed. For most purposes it doesn’t matter what gender you are, but for some purposes it does – and that will always be the case, even in an ideal society.         The second article was referencing multiple other policies ACT want to cut. You stated ACT won’t get to cut anything. The implication is that ACT are just there to prop up National’s vote and will not get to do anything meaningful.
        
        I’m not saying that you and people like you are telling me who to vote for, just that you seem to believe ACT (who represent my vote) should just do what National tells them to do. That makes ACT votes effectively just a proxy National vote.
        
        If National are planning on that level of arrogance ACT should probably only offer confidence & supply. I don’t think National are that stupid to take ACT for granted though.

        Libertarians are right, I saw a short clip from David Seymour/ACT come up on Youtube, and I watched a bit, and he made a statement that “ACT is not a babysitter for Labour policies”, or something like that.
        It spoke to the centrist ‘tweaking’ that National often does while caretaking before Labour comes back, as noted here on Kiwiblog.
        He said what is needed is a REVERSAL.
        David made a comment that if you are unhappy with where NZ is today, then consider that National has been running NZ for X years of the past X years (as in National has been running NZ for the bulk of the recent decades).
        It was a good point, and this is where he said that a real change would come from ACT directing NZ.
        I wish I have bookmarked it to lift some of the quotes, but it was good stuff (and not coming across as insincere ‘everyman-Luxon’ equivalent videos I have seen, talking about his ‘great upbringing in NZ’. David was to the point on vision for NZ, and not needing to sell himself. Shows how he is the best speaker of clear sense in NZ politics today.

Blackrock invests in Nz green energy so the Government gets to pay for its wind farms with your KiwiSaver and Blackrock gets to clip the ticket. Ask why Jacinda visited Blackrock and you know why. Do you believe that the Police should have told Ms Keen that they would protect her and any people, mainly women, who came to hear her?

I was so appalled at the violence against women and especially the elderly woman who was so violently assaulted that she had a bone near her eye socket fractured that I complained to the IPCA. I asked what the alleged offender was charged with. I did not ask his name, just the charge as I considered Common Assault insufficient. They refused to tell me on the grounds of privacy. Would you kindly tell me what the charge is? There are too many cases where people are not charged properly. I am asking you this due to the age of the alleged victim as you are the Minister for Seniors.

There is a lot of misinformation about Mrs Keen.

She lobbies for women in sports. She says women should not have to compete in sports against trans who were born men.

She says trans should not invade women’s spaces like toilets and changing rooms.

She says that trans who commit criminal offences should not go to women’s prisons.

Is the anything that she lobbies for that you disagree with?

      Geothermal is more reliable than other renewables (wind, hydro and solar). We do have some geothermal, but nowhere near what Iceland has.
      
      That’s why 100% renewable in NZ would be impossible, or at least incredibly expensive.

        NZ’s North Island alone is 113,729 sq km, compared with Iceland’s 103,000 sq km.
        
        The 53 or so “volcanic centres” in the 360 sq km volcanic field on which Auckland sits, were fed from what Geonet describes as “partial melt” 70km to 90km under the city.
        
        The deepest hole drilled in the world is the Kola super deep bore in the Murmansk region of Russia. It reached 12.2km.
        
        Will Auckland ever be able to tap the heat that lies far, far below the city?

  Lack of details on the deal, but I gather Blackrock will put up the money for the windmills and the government will guarantee a high rate of return. The government will pass the costs on consumers.
  
  This is the same mechanism for PPP roads which the same government decried so loudly. The beauty of this arrangement is that it keeps the loan off the government books “lowest debt in the OECD” anyone?
  
  As a sanity check, on a cold winter’s morning, the total wind generated electricity is less than 50MW and solar is 0 MW. Spending $2 billion on solar will increase the output to 0 MW.
  
  For comparison, geothermal is always over 900 MW, even on a cold frosty winter’s morning. The other 6,000 MW comes from hydro, gas and coal.

I remember when

Palmerston North residents wonder if the roadworks in Ferguson Street are ever going to be completed.
Perhaps they have been set up as a permanent ‘roadworks demonstration site.’
The local barber, who has been affected in varying degrees for the whole period, said only one of his four staff is being used at present.
A roadworker outside his premises, whose job seems to be largely health and safety, is standing observing the traffic and according to the barber earning more than he is.

Heard a story this morning which sums up where the country has got too. A mum with a new born in a pram was politely asked by a passer by if it was a baby girl or boy. A very natural question since time began. Mother got very huffy and replied ” gender neutral” What the hell is going on !!!!! The western world has gone completely nuts.

14th December MOH announced a 4th possible vaccine injury death was with the coroner.

The death had happened in April but new info had come to hand apparently
Any word on the outcome of the case. What was the circumstances of the death. Age. Name. Any other conditions. Why did they first think it wasn’t a vaccine death.

Do those who claim windmills do not emit CO2 consider how much CO2 is emitted in the mining of the metals and the emissions in their construction?

Do they think that they last forever?

I understand when they reach the end of their useful lives that the materials are not easily recyclable.

I saw on Sky News Aust a huge heap of them just dumped. In otherwords, it is cheaper to dump them than recycle them.

Covid and socialism:

Covid has been a perfect example of the failures and dangers of socialism. We really couldn’t have had a better educational experience. It’s just a darn shame that many have not learnt anything.

Firstly. The virus itself is a taxpayer funded creation. It was wealth redistribution from US taxpayers to the Wuhan lab that resulted in the creation of the virus. No sane private investor would have ever funded this research. There is no money to be made and endless liability.

Secondly. The govt threw millions (billions?) at propaganda to make you believe a mild flu would kill everyone. Then they threw millions at convincing you an experimental gene therapy was the solution. It was the endless propaganda and censorship of the truth that facilitated the damaging Covid response.

Thirdly, the entire premise of the Covid response was “the common good” primarily by reducing personal freedoms and responsibilities. The concept that safety and security are more important than individual freedoms and human rights. Socialism 101.

Sadly, many deluded people believe that the govt has saved them. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Everything Covid from start to finish has been a taxpayer funded circus.
