  What all this all inevitably leads to is massive corruption on a Third World scale. Pay the iwi tax or you won’t even be able to fart on your own land.

    And given that most Maori in the South Island lived near Lake Ellesmere and Lake Forsyth with the Mamoe also living at Rakaia. Sure, the Mamoe were driven south by Ngai Tahu, but it was a perpetual intergenerational battle that ended up at Te Anau with the Mamoe being slaughtered. In terms of numbers, there were hardly any of them, Ngai Tahu or Mamoe. So a few hundred, or even a few thousand wouldn’t or couldn’t have created areas of blanket significance.   On this subject a number of Aussie public listed companies have been supporingt the The Voice Yes campaign with donations of several millions of dollar in some cases. Coles and Woolies were broadcasting messages to support Yes in their stores until customers and staff complained.
  In the early stages Yes was ahead now its No on 56% and rising. This illustrates that large public listed companies (NZX) should not support political or social causes and must not use their shareholders funds to do so.
  Up to 10/15 years ago a number of NZX companies made donations to political parties the smart ones giving equally to the Nats and Labour. Following advocacy from groups like the NZ Shareholders Assn this as now stopped. However we still see virtual signalling and Wokeness from NZX companies. The Directors CEOs and senior management should stick to the knitting of maximising returns to their shareholders NOT indulging their personal Social Warrior Crusades.

ESG and DEI have given them an in to increase their fees and make more money. Forget believing that they are for any of this shit. They just want the money.   Oral history huh? Entirely believable. My ancestors were Mid-Canterbury farmers. The oral history passed down through our family was that Maori were feckless and lazy, who spend their time drinking and fighting and who lie like flat fish.   The sad irony here is that it was Timaru District that led the charge against Three Waters and withdrew from Local Government NZ.
  
  One step forward, two steps back.
  
  Until ratepayers get organised and actively petition councils with their grievances nothing will improve. Until they turn up at council meeting in force to make their presence and displeasure felt it’ll be business as usual. It’s possible the local ratepayers association is captured by the same ideology that has captured councils.
  
  Yet I still sense that most Kiwis wouldn’t have a clue where all this came from, how long it’s been bubbling under, how cunning the strategy is, and the size of the tidal wave about to engulf them. Many think it’s just a few troublemakers that need to be rooted out.
  
  ACT is pretty staunch on this stuff but I doubt National’s grit. Central government is a big enough problem but it’s really local councils where people need to take control back from the ideologues who are in charge.

    You have a point, that Maori should be sympathetic to assets or land being taken by decree with no compensation. Because they know what that is like, and 2 wrongs are not a right.
    
    That said, what specific information do you have that these farms were ‘stolen’?
    
    Maori land was gifted, conquered, purchased, confiscated and changed hands through a number of means both fair and foul.
    The blanket “you stole our land” mantra is lazy and wrong, without specific understanding of that particular whenua.

    Maori Elite is an interesting term.
    
    There certainly is nothing elite about Willie Jackson (his current employment is a sad indictment of the people who put him in the position).
    
    Maori Royalty is a better term. i.e. their position in life was not gained by achievement, but by birth.
    
    Once again, the Maori King family’s elevated status is a sad indictment of the population who stand by whilst the “royal family” steal our money, and then tell us about it on the Tele.
    
    And please never forget, the many hardworking, law abiding Maoris in your communities do not benefit, and are no more complicit than you or I for allowing the current taxpayer rort.

      By calling people Maori we’re also buying into the idea that you only have a single ethnicity and must choose one. Willie Jackson is Maori and his last name Jackson is off British/Scottish/Irish origins. The government perpetuates this lie that you are only one ethnicity. If you tick Maori and European on your health card, they prioritise the races and put you as Maori, even if you are predominantly European.
      
      Sex is binary across animal species And you can’t be both male and female. But race is like breed. If you mix a cocker spaniel and a poodle you get a cock a doodle. A combination of the genetics of both.

  The current Treaty is a rogue Treaty, the re-written 1975 Waitangi Tribunal.
  Further interfered with in 1989 by Sir Hugh Kawharu. He introduced “forestry and fisheries” That is NOT in the original Feb 6th 1840 version written in Maori.
  This is were NZ needs to go back to. Then the ‘gravy train’ will stop!

    The true original treaty is the Littlewood version, written in English by Hobson and translated into Maori by the Williams brothers on 5 Feb 1840. The Maori version mirrors the English version almost exactly – but it doesn’t suit the modern activists.
    Ask yourself why the Littlewood version is hidden away in National Archives – perhaps its content is inconvenient?
    The so-called ‘Treaty’ is an abomination cobbled together by James Freeman without Hobson’s consent.

  I found him shallow. Not to be taken seriously.
  
  After seeing him rave about Maori businesses being granted a guaranteed percentage of government procurement contracts I asked him if he thought there were any risks or downsides to such a policy. He replied “No, there are none. The policy is perfect.”
  
  I was appalled.
  
  Downsides stand out like dogs balls.

Rocket Lab USA, the space company started in New Zealand by Peter Beck, has signed a deal with the firm BlackSky Technologies for a further five BlackSky satellite launches.

They will be made on Rocket Lab Electron rockets from Mahia. Over four years, Rocket Lab has already made six satellite launches for BlackSky.

The latest five launches will be made in 2024, with other missions booked for four commercial satellite firms as well as Government missions.

  NZ First at 5.3% is a concern – only takes a little movement for Winston to hold the balance of power. He might side with National but I still think Labour would offer him more and he’d go with them.
  
  What is really perplexing me though is that a continued majority state in almost every poll that the country is on the wrong track. Item the other night on the affect that silt removal is having in Hawke’s Bay after Cyclone Gabrielle.
In the article it referred to the total lack of macroinvertebrates in affected rivers.
As it is the second half of winter, it made me wonder how many invertebrates, of any sort, they would expect to find at this time of the year.
Also, the loss of invertebrates would be expected after every one of their usual winter floods.
Interestingly, while searching for the details, I found a RNZ report from May that looked as if it might be the source.
HBRC fresh water scientist Dan Fake, said in some rivers they’d found a total absence of macroinvertebrates.
But in others, ecosystems were recovering faster than expected.
ONE POSITIVE was that that the floods had recharged the region’s acquifiers.

A mate installed the program, called Toucan, and selected Spanish. He used it for a quarter of an hour, then went offline and forgot about it.

Days he was back online and was annoyed by “confusion” he found on a business web site. He was so frustrated he fired off an email complaining about “all the bloody foreign language crap that’s popped up on your site – what’s going on?”

The penny dropped about the same time as the puzzled reply arrived.

Had cubital tunnel Funny bone ulnar nerve) surgery on Monday. Cast was not right so I was called back yesterday. Apparently the Surgeon put the cast on. Short staffed I guess. Anyway the cast was a single layer, should have been two.
Got all wrapped up again. Fiberglass wrap. It is activated by air to harden.
Anyway thanks to everyone involved in the Orthopedics at North Shore Hospital.

    Let me Guess… You didn’t grow up in an economically impoverished area where kids routinely left school at age 14-15 without any formal qualifications and often without the skills and habits to become an independent wage earner.

      The problem with problems is that have different importance vs urgency.
      
      Education is never urgent because the impacts only show up 5 to 10 years afterwards when it is too late to fix what’s broken.
      
      Crime is hugely urgent because people see it now and want it resolved now.
      
      But in the medium/long term, the education crisis is far worse than crime. Crime can be somewhat reversed, but poor education completely destroys the future for at least a generation or two.

    Of course it is nanny state meddling. Putting restrictions on responsible people because of the actions of irresponsible people is classic Labour, whether of the Red or Blue variety.
    
    Worse than that, it won’t work. They can still access social media on their laptops. They can still carry phones, so if they were going to do things that are prohibited anyway (e.g. Ghost’s examples) they can get out their phone and do that. There is no regulation that can substitute for raising kids to make good choices.
    
    If anyone thinks the kids that can’t read and do maths are suddenly going to start working hard when their phone is taken away, I have a bridge to sell them. The kids who are behind now, were behind before they ever got their first phone.

Well done for paying back the gifts, but bloody hell

The Public Service Commission has given a firm rebuke to the Ministry of Pacific Peoples’ for a nearly $40,000 spend-up on its outgoing chief executive, Leauanae Laulu Mac Leauanae, and warned other chief executives they need to follow the rules.

The Ministry spent $39,262.22 on a two-day farewell event which all staff attended last October. However Leauanae later paid back $7500 of the money which had been spent on gifts. The review found he was not involved in planning or decision-making concerning the farewell, but as chief executive was responsible overall for the agency.

  “Hey, old Luala is leaving. Let’s throw ourselves a massive two-day party at the taxpayers’ expense!”
  
  And not one little dicky-bird put their hand up and said it was wrong.
  
  According to their www, “The Ministry for Pacific Peoples office is located in Wellington and employs approximately 130 staff. The Ministry manages an annual appropriation of approximately $76 million (in 2022/23).”
  
  That number of staff has more than doubled under Labour. It was 48 in 2016.
  
  It sounds to me like this is a fairly good trough to be in if you’re brown.
  
  130 staff manage to spend 40k on a 2-day bender? That’s over $300 each. I guess it wasn’t mutton flaps then.
  
  Clearly it isn’t just the guy at the top that’s bent. It is the whole damn organisation!

    In unrelated (?) news, Genesis is increasing my gas bill by 18.1%.
    That’s along with rates (14%), insurance (26%), electricity (13%).

    The guy is a serial trougher, another $12,500 was spent on an arrival party at his new ministry!
    
    It didn’t stop there, Leauanae wasn’t even leaving the public service, he was just moving to a new ministry – the Ministry for Culture and Heritage, where they held another party.
    
    His new ministry put about $7500 towards it which the Public Service Commission said was acceptable. But his old Ministry for Pacific Peoples spent nearly $5000 on it which was deemed inappropriate.
    
    FFS, how is $7,500 on an arrival party acceptable? Seymour is 100% right, they need to dump all these useless departments spending money and achieving nothing.

Sigh

An Auckland school went into lockdown on Tuesday after a student, armed with a knife, entered the principal’s office to “scare another student”, a school leader has said.

In a post on social media, Bert Iosia, Kelston Intermediate School principal, told parents he was able to “diffuse the situation quickly” and “no one was hurt in the process”.

“It was upsetting for the child who felt threatened and we are working with their family to provide any support needed at this time.”

So pregnant Maori women get 2 $50 prezzie cards. First question is what proof do you need to show you are Maori or do you even need to give any and surely anyone could say my mother’s, mother’s mother was etc. Second is I would love to see what they spend their prezzie card on, but of course any analysis of whether this policy has any beneficial outcome won’t be done. Just more bribes for the race that can’t look after themselves.
