You have to love it everytime Labour get themselves in trouble in the polls, the Trade Union and their Two Bob Pom Economist Craig Rennie start whinging that its all Nationals fault.
But we need to ask this Question why after all these savings 4 Billion that the Prime Minister Chris Hipkins and Finance Minister Grant Robertson have found why was there no action taken before this as National have been saying for the last 12 months the waste and overspending by this Government is out of control, but no it takes the polls to show this inept Government that they are treading water and will be unlikely winners after the 2023 General Election.
Five weeks out from a election and you suddenly find $4 billion in savings when you swore black and blue that the opposition Parties that were attacking you about the billions of waste the Taxpayers were paying for and suddenly you find $4 billion and you expect New Zealander’s to believe you and want to vote for you again is arrogant and unbelievable.
If New Zealander’s swallow this load of lies and bullshit and vote Labour back the voter deserves what they will get with it likely to devide our Country even more.

    If they don’t we are in serious trouble.
    
    Unfortunately they will probably spend the rest of the year sorting out their offices and meeting the bureaucracy that shafted the country on behalf of their predecessors .
    
    Then there will be the two month Christmas shutdown when nothing will be done.
    
    “No one in the office so no point coming in”;
    ( perhaps we could amend our national anthem to include that line).
    
    So we are looking at March 2024 before these lazy sun tanned bastards roll out of their scratchers and realise they have to pretend they know what they are meant to be doing.
    
    Back to the status quo.
    Lie to the public and get through the day and hope tomorrow they will forget.
    
    This isn’t an election of competent motivated people who are able to guide the country to a better place, this is a job interview for people of generally low intellect, low energy, and low motivation whose ego exceeds their ability .
    
    No government will save New Zealand .
    
    New Zealanders will save this country.

    Just imagine what Prime Minister Chris Hipkins and Finance Minister Grant Robertson could save if they didn’t have the the Publc Service worker roster up 15.7% in numbers since National were last in power, that is nearly 60,000 more staff employed now to what was employed in the workforce in October 2017.

  This was an ANNOUNCEMENT by Labour just before the PREFU. What do we know about Labour Party announcements to reduce government spending by 0.6%?
  We know for sure it will never happen. It can’t happen before the election and if re-elected, it certainly won’t happen after the election.
  
  This announcement is purely for the upcoming PREFU, where Labour have unilaterally changed the purpose — from showing how things are, to showing how things could be (based on non-Treasury, unbudgeted “savings” as estimated by the perfidious Finance Minister).

    No, the public service cut is designed to vapourise any extra money leftover within baselines from a tightening up of work programmes that National would have required, going forward. Extra money that then could have been re-channelled by National/ACT into needy areas like hospital operations, training doctors and nurses or buying more medicines.
    
    Labour has just reallocated budgets at a lower set level in 24/25 and agencies will have to cut programmes or cut staff or both in order not to go over the new baselines. No one will actually see the clawback, the 1B per year will just be jotted on the books as not being spent (because it won’t have been borrowed to give to the departments), to achieve surplus in a faster timeframe.
    
    If National want to spend the ‘paper amount’ they actually would have to borrow it and that will push out the surplus date as well as add more inflationary pressure. That then makes them look like bad economic managers giving Labour ammunition in three years time.
    
    Labour is outsourcing its fiscal failure in a manner designed to deceive the public and damn the economy. It is simply a spiteful parting shot from Grant Robertson who learnt well at the knee of Michael Cullen. A nasty, spiteful, mean-spirited man if ever there was one and if I knew where his grave was I’d go and dance on it.

Much being said about coalition govt lately. Who National should cooperate with and who they should not. One possiblity that seems to be overlooked is a coalition or supply agreement between National and the Greens.

Its not as impossible as you would first assume. Such a coalition had been mooted when Todd Muller became Nats leader. He always spoke of his regard for Jimmy Shaw. Luxon has said the same thing.

National today is dominated by the “blue greens” faction. That group that was set up within National by ex-Green party stalwart Sir Robert Fenwick. Luxon has also expressed his deep regard for Sir Robert’s ideas.

In a media interview last week, Marama Davidson was asked three times to rule out a coalition between her party and the Nats and steadfastly refused to do so. You can see this interview on my Twitter feed.

With National’s green-left leadership of Luxon, Willis, Bishop and Stanford, and the blue greens faction holding all the power, its not unlikley they would welcome a coalition with the Greens as a counter to any agreement with ACT or NZ First. Two groups they perceive as too right wing.

If you’re going to any Nat party public meetings, please ask the candidates or Mr Luxon whether they would entertain a coalition or supply agreement with the Greens. Voters should know the answer to this before the election

  National has no interest in working with the Green Party in a future government after Greens co-leader James Shaw said a National-Act alliance would be the most “reactionary, race-baiting, right-wing” government in decades.
  
  Shaw, alongside co-leader Marama Davidson, made the party’s State of the Planet speech in Auckland today, which included a strong focus on the risks posed by National and Act forming the next government after this year’s election.
  
  “Labour and National may be duking it out for the so-called political centre but this October, New Zealand will either elect the most progressive, climate-focused government that we have ever had … or hand the keys to the most reactionary, race-baiting, right-wing government that we have seen in decades,” Shaw said today.
  
  “A government for the wealthy few at the expense of many, not just in this generation but also those to come, a government of climate inaction and delay.”
  
  While Shaw didn’t explicitly rule out working with the current Opposition, National MP Chris Bishop believed his comments amounted to just that.
  
  “The National Party’s not going to be lectured to by James Shaw and the Greens who have tethered themselves to a Government that has been absolutely incompetent on almost everything they have tried to do in the past few years, including climate change.
  
  “The Greens have laid out their stall, they want to be part of a Labour-Green government … it’s ultimately over to the Greens who they choose to work with, they have no interest in working with [National] and with comments like that, we have no interest in working with them.”

    Yes Tony, I knew of Chris Bishop’s statement made some months ago and before ACT and NZ First began to rise in popularity. Nicola Willis also said some time ago she would be happy with a National-Maori party coalition. (I’ve got it on video) So things change.
    
    Mr Luxon’s refusal to debate the hard questions during this campaign has left the door wide open for Winston and Seymour. They are both advancing ideas that Mr Luxon has said he opposes. (Treaty referendum, repeal of Zero Carbon legislation for example).
    
    Also, I would trust the ambitious and disheveled EV driving congestion charge ULEZ fan Mr Bishop about as far as I could kick him.
    
    Today, wet woke National could quite well see an agreement with the Greens as providing a useful buffer against the perceived “extremist” influence of ACT and NZ First.
    
    Bottom line is things have changed and if what you say is true, that what Bishop said still applies, then there should be no harm in Mr Luxon reaffirming this before the election. Just to be sure. Wouldn’t you agree?

    Its a common misconception that Shaw is not as radical as some of his comrades. I disagree, for a couple of reasons.
    
    1) Shaw has on more than one occasion explained to his flock the strategy he favours to advance his extremist ideas. He said “You hold fast to your radical ideas and you work within the system to change it”.
    
    2) He has remained as leader of the Greens as long as he has because he has convinced the majority of the party that his strategy is working. (The faction that tried to unseat him was very small in number and led by an absolute nutter.)
    
    Shaw is in reality a radical Marxist just like all of the other Greens. The difference is he is smart enough to know he needs to conceal this truth to succeed in his ambitions.

      I would treat TOP’s own internal poll with caution pdm. However there’s a Taxpayer Union debate in Ilam tonight, and along with that will come a Curia poll, which will be far more reliable. I do however expect Sarah Pallet to come third, at best. National’s Hamish Campbell will win Ilam with some comfort.

      Brownlee had held Ilam for a long time. I expect even many Act voters (such as myself) were still voting for Brownlee because he was doing a pretty good job.
      
      But in 2020 he was tits on a bull. He really seems to have lost his enthusiasm. I’d tried to contact him a few times and didn’t even get a return email.
      
      So in 2020 I didn’t vote for him. I voted for the Act guy even though he stood no chance.

        A guy with a PhD in cancer and virus research should not be wasting his time as a counting token in parliament. He is far more value to NZ and the world in general if he stays in his field.
        
        One might be tempted to say the same for Seymour who trained as an engineer. The difference though is that Seymour has never worked as an engineer – always in politics.
        
        It would be interesting to bail up Campbell and ask him his thoughts on Covid (the handling thereof and the position of his Get Boosted mates). But I’m not going to vote for him so I really can’t be bothered.

    National ruling along would represent an opportunity lost. National ruling alone would manage LINO policy less incompetently than the present government, with a few policy tweaks. Then next time LINO gets back in, the cultural Marxist makeover of our institutions goes back into overdrive, and the country’s downward spiral continues. Key players on the Nats front bench (Luxon, Willis, Stanford) buy into DEI – they are best described as progressive neoliberals.
    
    The next government needs to do a “factory reset” on our institutions (especially education), clearing out the cultural Marxist cancer. Why? Because otherwise our education system in particular will continue to produce more cultural Marxists. And it’s only going to happen if ACT has the numbers to force Luxon’s hand. Yes Seymour is an arrogant knob, and I disagree with some of ACT’s policies. But the Nats ruling alone will not turn this country around.
    
    Simply holding the line will not do – the next government must push back.

So you see these cargo bikes with Mum or Dad upfront & one or two kids on the back. Some of those kids are really young, by the look of it. Which brings me to my point.

Firstly, when our kids were little, we were told always to support their head & never to swing or shake them; yet you see these kids, with the weight of a helmet contributing more poundage, heads swinging with the centrifugal force of being behind the rear wheel;

And secondly, we were, under threat of legal punishment, enjoined to always but always ensure that the kids were well strapped into car seats.

That being the case, how is it even legal that small children can be conveyed on cargo bikes; and how is it that their parents care so little about them that they do this.

Are they that blinded to the facts by their ideology?

      It’s not about personal adult convenience. It’s about whether cargo bikes are safe for small children. It seems to me that they do not meet the safety standards mandated by law for other passenger carrying vehicles. And, apart from common humanity, as a net taxpayer I’ll be contributing to the health service costs if & when medical assistance is required.

Labour, under parliamentary urgency, are pushing through The Electoral (Lowering Voting Age for Local Elections and Polls) Legislation Bill with little scrutiny from our MSM. Bills such as this are at the heart of our democratic process (voting age) and should be determined by referendum, which could have been accomplished within the up-coming election; not appeasement to activist school kids who think the world owes them a living.
This coupled with Chippy and Robo’s latest brain fart in suggesting they are economic masters by cutting costs in the public service and contractors/consultants. This after they panned National for suggesting reducing, in part, the public service to lower overall government spending – This is only to distort the upcoming PREFU in an attempt show what good economic managers they are, but in reality, it is only to reduce the amount of immediate borrowing needed to make ends meet until the election.

      G, I had the same experience as you. My father died the first weekend of the first lockdown in 2020 of dementia.
      
      I visited my father 6 days before he died. My brother then lambasted me for visiting our father with, “you could have given him Covid….”.
      Sadly, my father was already dying.
      
      An aside, the undertaker wrote letter to Jacinda, about the heartlessness of the policy with respect to grieving families. Naturally, she did not receive a reply.

How can you spend $100billion on a health emergency and end up with a total under-resourced health system and have no money to fix it in the future?

      What I meant by “available” was that the vaccine was being manufactured and sold and was being rolled out in some countries. The clock starts then.
      That Ardern put us at the back of the queue is on Ardern, who preferred to extend lockdowns.
      But you are correct in that some of the early cases were prior to that, eg the 95 year old lady on the West Coast.

$4bill in public sector savings almost certainly is mostly jobs gone. That is a lot of actual jobs even if some are actual vacancies to be canned. What will the newly unemployed be doing? Welfare is hardly going to cut it if there is rent or mortgage to be paid.

I guess they can apply for jobs where there is a known shortage, aged care for example. Good luck competing with the immigrant nurses from the Philippines. Or in other sectors, there is a tsunami of new immigrants ready, willing and desperate to work.

Is anyone thinking ahead about the social, health and fiscal impacts of a few billion in ‘savings’ on actual households? You know, the ones with children, mortgages, rent and debts?

Job listings are continuing to fall as the number of applications per advert hits an all-time high, according to the latest data. SEEK NZ released its latest employment report on Tuesday which showed job ad volumes had declined 4 percent month on month and were down a whopping 26 percent compared with this time last year.

  At $4000 each, that gives a total of one million, keeping in mind that each time a public service employee is transferred to a new role it’s both a farewell and a welcome, bring us to 500, 000 little celebrations.
  How much churn over a year? Say 100, 000 transfers or new hires/ retirements, that gives $4 billion only being worth 5 years of minor public service celebrations.
  I wonder if there’s any other waste to cut, like saving the planet by flying hundreds of people to junkets to save the planet from climate change?

  Now there are people who do think that, believing that it is a duty of Government to employ people, or to force others to employ them. Governments can do this, by imposing regulatory requirements or restrictions so that more people are required to produce the same output – yesterday’s example of banning mechanical diggers and employing large numbers of people with spades, or even larger numbers of people with spoons, to build a road.

Aljazeera blasts economist professor as “far right” for using the term “indigenous Britons”. The British Indian interviewer forces the economist for a definition, cwho suggests he is also indigenous because he is born there.

The comments section the aussies and kiwis are confused because even 5 or 6 years of being born in NZ or Oz doesn’t make you indigenous.

Imagine if the economist suggested that indigenous Britons should have cogovernance, free cervical smears , priority health care, guaranteed seats in parliament and to decolonize.

One commenter was particularly interesting. She said special jobs were set aside for indigenous in Australian prisons. And that included Maori and Aboriginal. If a Maori is living in Australia are they still indigenous? Apparently.

Asking, isn’t everyone indigenous to somewhere, is racist. Asking who is indigenous to Britain is racist. Special rights for indigenous Britons is racist. As globalisation continues there will be no pure races or culture. We all will trace back to many ancient cultures.

You can’t make this shit up!

Back to my original point; just how big is Robertson’s hole (in the budget, of course)? I guess we’ll find out when the PREFU is released in a couple of weeks… #RobertsonsHole

  This move has changed what the PREFU will say. The reason is that the PREFU must be based on current government settings regardless of their sustainability or believability. This announcement assumes $1billion per annum less expenditure, which becomes cumulative so looks great into the future.

It is this that allows billion dollar private trusts to pay no tax.

That should be closed. You run a commercial enterprise, you pay tax. If your charity doesn’t return 75% or more of revenue and donations to beneficiaries, you pay tax.

  The Maori iwi trusts were given tax empty status by Cullen in 2005. It was on the basis that the iwi receiving settlements were meant to be using the proceeds of the settlement to enhance the social betterment of their whole iwi.
  
  In the meantime, iwi like Ngai Tahu have created corporate entities worth $billions that are not paying tax, and provide limited welfare benefits for their iwi. Instead the taxpayer is left picking up the tabs of welfare.

I’m not going to pay for this, but a judge is arguing that we don’t understand. ie it is our fault that there is a difference between our expectations and what judges actually do when sentencing.

With all the respect I can muster, I think the judge has that upside down.

It is his job to act on our behalf. When the public’s expectations are not met on justice issues it is perhaps not us that are broken. Maybe they need to get it into their heads that they, and the system they are part of, is broken.

We cannot use our feelings etc to interfere with sentencing. What really matters is that the sentences have negative consequences for the crims. Those negative consequences need to be harsh enough that the crims take tote and figure out that it really isn’t worth doing the crime because the consequences are not worth it.

    3S, or some other increasing sentencing, is really the best way to establish a suitable and effective sentence and here is why.
    
    We all decide to do things, including crimes, based on making pros vs cons. Different people price pros and cons differently, so they act differently.
    
    The same sentence means different things to different people, therefore we need to start low and increase the sentence until we find the point at which the sentence grows enough teeth for the crim to pay attention. When the price is high enough, then it is no longer worth committing crime.
    
    As an obvious example, take fines. If we fine a millionaire $500 every time he speeds, he probably won’t care. It is no real incentive to stop speeding. But if you’re earning $3000 per month then that $500 really bites. So the way to deal with that is to make the fine $500 the first time, $5000 the second time and so on. Essentially following the 3S pattern.
    
    A gang member with half his rellies in prison probably doesn’t find a 6 month sentence too bad. Therefore the only thing to do is to keep jacking up the sentences until he gets the message.
    
    The other side of it is discounts for cultural reports etc. This is entirely wrong.
    
    If you have had a shitty childhood then you should not be getting a discount. If anything you should be getting an increased sentence.
    
    Why? Again, it is pricing.
    A kid who has been brought up in a loving environment etc is likely to feel more punished and hurt by a short sentence.
    
    For a kid that has endured hardship, the same sentence is just water off a duck’s back. He needs a much harsher sentence to get the same message.
    
    Instead we flip this around and give the kid for whom punishment means nothing a lighter sentence which means even less. That really removes the incentives to reform.

      An interesting comment on cultural reports came in an address a couple of years ago from Joe Williams, now a Supreme Court justice, and Maori. He said that when there are so many people who come from really bad backgrounds and have chosen not to offend, then making allowances for those that choose to do so, diminishes the mana of both those who offend and those who don’t.
      Most criminals have come from bad backgrounds. But most people from bad backgrounds are not criminals.

If you think about the mechanism of action in MRNA vaccines, it seems a miracle (thank god) that more people weren’t maimed and killed by it.

Combine this with the discovery of vials containing solely saline.

Combine this with the fact they whipped out 10’s of billions of doses, seemingly from nowhere.

Combine this with research that shows the majority of adverse events were from particular batches.

Combine this with the obvious financial incentive.

Combine this with the fact that the vaccine did not prevent contraction or transmission in most cases.

And it’s looking more and more like the majority of Covid vaccines were placebos. I think many people would be happy to hear that.

Is there any evidence out there to disprove this theory? Did they test each batch to see what it contained? What else could explain all of the above?

The Government’s plan to crack down on ram raids has been given a stinging rebuke by Attorney-General David Parker, who says it is inconsistent with the Bill of Rights Act (BORA) on multiple grounds.

He said the new proposals might be justified if the benefits outweighed the harms, but the evidence suggested that wouldn’t be the case.

The Ram Raid Offending and Related Measures Amendment Bill is one of several bills the Government is progressing under urgency in the last sitting week of Parliament.

Others include trying to get global tech firms to pay for local news, lowering the voting age in local elections, improving the justice system experience for victims of sexual assault and banning bottom trawling for most of the Hauraki Gulf.

  It will be yet another law that hangs around and has potential for abuse long after ram raiding has become unfashionable.

Why on earth can’t politicians who might have a few doubts that “Climate Change!” is as bad as legacy media would have us believe, but are basically hounded into towing the alarmist line, go and read some of the documents our own government has produced, or even the IPCC assessment reports?
Our own government produced a report a few years back that predicted that rainfall might change by just a few percent by the end of the century.
AR6 tells us that there is little to no trend in global rainfall/storms etc, let alone prepared to declare that humans are responsible for the changes.
Armed with this knowledge they might be able to point the idiots behind the microphones to these documents so they could read them for themselves.

Personally, I definitely have concerns that he could do a deal with any of NZF, Greens or TPM to avoid having to confront difficult issues and make necessary changes.

    What is wrong with you Actoids? As has been pointed out many times, Luxon has already ruled out working with the Greens, and TPM. What is there to suggest that Luxon will do a Peters, other than the noise in your own heads?
    
    And as he knows, because DPF is his pollster, Peters is just a noise on the sidelines.
