While a lot of ordinary people fighting the high cost of living , with high prices in health, groceries, petrol and other everyday costs some can’t read this article from Simon Wilson because it is under paywall and many can’t afford the cost.
But Simon Wilson still asks the question of why Labour didn’t do more with the absolute majority they had in Parliament, well here is my view and answer, because they were corrupt out of their depth and lazy with the attitude of we know best and how to do it for New Zealander’s no ifs or buts we know best we are the Labour Party and fuck everyone else.
After Covid-19 they thought they were untouchable so Governed with the same attitude and arrogance that they used to con the country but forgot the cruel and vicious lies they used with their mandate.
Jacinda Ardern our Former Prime Minister jumped ship because she saw the writing on the wall , but Chris Hipkins the fill in Prime Minister continued the arrogance and lies to the end and rightfully suffered the rejection of the voter in a trouncing by the National and Act Parties on Election day.

  The attitudes of Labour were appalling. Clark, McAnulty, Robertson, Jackson, Wood, Woods, Sepuloni, Verrall, Little, Parker, Anderson, Mahuta, Hipkins. Who else? Fuck it, all of them had their noses in the air, look at me, look at me.
  Ardern would have been the worst. Yip, yip, that’s what it is. She finally realised what she had done. Never tried to fix anything, just ran away like a coward.
  I hope NZ has learnt a lesson. Every time Labour comes into power they screw NZ over. EVERY time!
  The next wave of socialists have just started pre-school – to learn what?

      Bet we did. I was wrong. How many of the current mob of Labour were in the Clark years of Labour? I don’t know the answer, but I can say there was a lot more socialist influence than Ardern alone.

    In years to come, historians will wonder at how a minister sends details of cabinet discussions, who said what, how they voted, who to push harder to his donors, and managed to see out his term as an MP. Why did the media say ‘there is no suggestion of him doing this for personal gain, it is just careless, not corrupt’ ?
    Such an open and shut case of outright corruption and yet the country accepts it as ‘careless’ !

More gang entitlement…
I got caught up in the traffic jam from that accident just south of Taihape on Friday. One of the Labour Weekend accidents the media reported on.
I was heading north, and just a few minutes prior a large group of Hells Angels bikies came around a blind bend, taking up both sides of the road. I swerved, a few of them swerved, while I sat on my horn. No damage done, but what d1ckheads, riding like they owned the road.
Then a few minutes later I came across that accident referred to. Pretty gnarly, the motorbike was mangled, the helicopter came, along with all types of emergency services. We sat on the road for nearly an hour. Thankfully it was a nice sunny day in the scenic countryside.
As we slowly inched closer, I realised that it was another Hells Angels rider, part of another group heading south. I guarantee they were riding in the same manner as the previous group – like complete @rseholes.
Then the next day I read that he’d died.
I didn’t shed any tears.

  We drove home from Rotorua yesterday and there were groups of 3 Hells Angels bikes going past for some time.
  
  They were all very well behaved, to which I said to my partner – they must be transporting drugs so as not to attract attention. But that was the first mob of three, another three lots of three went past after that.
  
  But maybe they learnt that playing chicken with steel boxes driving the opposite direct at 100km wasn’t the smartest strategy.
  
  Also another m/bike smash at the start of the Mamaku’s in the cheesegrater barrier (yday). Some poor bugger on the deck with three cheesegraters missing and bike on the other side of the road.
  
  Told the kids to look the other way.
  
  What’s been seen, can’t be unseen.

Well the situation in Gaza has certainly taken Ukraine out of the limelight, but back to that shortly.

I don’t believe for a second that the Israeli security people didn’t know what Hamas was up to.
But if Israel had taken any action before Hamas did anything then they would be seen by the world media as being those “terrible Yiddish lot up to their killing of women and children again”. (Yiddish being a reference to the trouble that Jews of European origin have caused in the middle east).
I fully expect that Israel knew of the Hamas programme, and as trouble for Israel has often come on a religious holiday previously, then they would have been extra vigilant on this holiday.
I have no doubt that the Israeli government decided to let Hamas do their thing and then react to it. Yes there would be casualties (as there would be either way) but letting Hamas act first would give Israel the license they would need to flatten the Gaza, and provide sympathetic media coverage – something that has never been around much previously.
What I cant understand is why they haven’t filled the tunnels in Gaza with seawater.

Now back to – where was it — ah yes, Ukraine. Not much happening there. A few incursions by Ukrainian forces but no ‘Big Breakthrough” as Zelenskyy promised. He staked his reputation (and I suspect his life also) on the Big Breakthrough.
Worse though is that the western nations are running out of patience and now have other things to worry about – like the Middle East exploding (ie: like cruise missiles being launched out of Yemen directed at Israel – or maybe even at Egypt and blame the Israelis for sending them) and Taiwan. Now that much of the Wests arsenals are empty or getting close to it, it would be real nuisance if military activity got hot across the Taiwan straight.
Mind you things have been learned in Ukraine. Some of the weapons that everyone thought would be game changers have turned out to be damp squids. For example the Javelin has not been the glamour weapon it was going to be. It’s a tank killer but it relies on detecting a difference in heat – so an insulating blanket on top of the tank sees the javelin missile going ‘right on bye’. The Russian equivalent – the Lancet – is proving much better. It can be launched from a drone and seemingly can be used against all sorts of targets – be they hot or cold.
At this stage the weapons that are proving to be reliable and consistent are artillery, mines and drones. Mines deployed by artillery have proven very effective. Everything else seems to have limits, and some ‘wonder weapons’ have success rates as low as 3% – while on the practice range they get 90% kill rates.
And the famed Leopard tank – the one that can deliver you a beer on the end of its gun – is no more resistant to anti tank weapons than – well almost any other tank since WWII.
However the US military planners will be grateful for the field testing of their weapons by some other army and thus no American deaths.

They increased the number of Gazans coming in for work , for appeasement reasons and many of these were possibly spies .

        Isis-Hamas leadership came out themselves and said the Israelis didn’t know (I’ve read the Isis-Hamas account). There were only 5 in all of Isis-Hamas who knew of the planning that went on for two years prior to the terrorism.

  Time will tell. Its not looking good for Israel. IDF had “Women can do anything” deployed forward and Hamas just rolled over them. Israel is afflicted with the same D.I.E crap as NZ.
  
  On the evidence to date Israel govt failed in its job to keep its citizens safe. Perhaps Israel will go on to win some glorious victory that puts new light on the border failure. Cant see it. IDF last victories are almost 50 yrs old.
  
  NZ is woke Clown World and had something like Cyclone Gabrielle hit people without warning. Israel is no different to NZ, a woke Post-west Clown World. The consequence are just different.

  Before 9/11, intelligence sources were aware of some chatter that something big was about to happen, but what seems to have occured is a failure of imagination that could even envisage suicidal militants flying airliners into structures.
  
  If you had said to the people of Israel that militants could cross the borders in numbers and kill hundreds if not thousands of civilians, they may well have had that same failure of imagination.

  I am inclined to agree. This ghastly situation has hallmarks of an Israeli black flag op that went horribly, and uncontrollably critical from the outset. One thing is for sure: Iran is happy to have strengthened its regional hegemony at the expense of Israel, US, and tragically from the deaths of 1000’s of innocents.

    I hear there is also problems with remnants of ecoli bacteria being found in the vaccines. This may explain some of the less common side effects. This is really bad, but can at least be explained, as they used genetically engineered ecoli bacteria to mass produce the MRNA strings.

  It may be time to once again rationalise subjects being taught at our 7 Universities…. but to pull the plug on Geophysics at Victoria, Wellington is NUTS.
  
  The fact is that it is expensive to equip and run laboratories and field stations for Universities undertaking research into the natural/physical and applied sciences.
  
  Humanities, Business and Social Sciences are much easier subjects for universities to resource.
  
  But can NZ afford to neglect the applied sciences?
  But the fundamental problem is one that we’ve known about for a long time which is we let 17-year-olds in New Zealand really decide the strategic direction of our university sector because of our funding following students. So if a student decides to do ag and hort or plant then the university is funded to do that, but if the students don’t choose that, then the funding follows tertiary students into other areas. This is a fundamental problem.
  
  “It doesn’t work. It doesn’t provide a university system effectively delivering benefit to New Zealand,” he said.
  
  Hickford said he had been crunching numbers and last year there were more than twice as many students doing performing arts degrees as agriculture.

    I have a little dream that perhaps I’ll share here – that over the next generation or so we enable large numbers of young Maori, as well as others of course, to become some of our greatest scientists in all sorts of areas.
    
    For them to be at the forefront of brilliant environmental management and wealth-creating export-led food production and delivery etc etc.
    
    To achieve this I’d have no problems whatsoever incentivising these areas of study over others.
    
    I just weep at times at the waste of human potential our politicians and systems are responsible for.

    Yes Maggy, the current funding model pretty much puts the students in charge of our universities. It’s one of Roger Douglas’s more horrendous creations.
    
    The (now 9) universities are expected to compete to enroll students, and a good chunk of their funding is proportional to the numbers of bums on seats. With a few perverse elements thrown in, like currently funding students enrolled in maatauranga Maaori at a higher rate than those enrolled in medicine or engineering (apparent we’re more in need of witchdoctors than of engineers or real doctors).
    
    The competitive dynamic inspired Massey to open a campus in a city that already had two other universities (and now has a third – UNITECH).
    
    The current model inevitably has boom-bust cycles that lead to layoffs and subsequent trouble coping with a later upswing in enrollments. But the general trend is negative, as universities’ running costs mount. Bad management decisions haven’t helped – Massey’s ill-fated adventure in Auckland, Otago and Waikato caving to activist demands for “decolonization”, Wellington and Otago wasting money on ill-conceived rebrands.
    
    We need to get back to a funding model focused on quality rather than quantity, with no tuition fees for for essential degrees like medicine, science and engineering; and strict academic entry requirements (currently they’ll take just about anyone with a student loan). But ACT’s free-market fundamentalism makes that kind of reform unlikely, the Nats show little interest in universities, and (as Te Pukenga shows us) any reform implemented by LINO would inevitably be about imposing even greater ideological uniformity, rather than creating more functional institutions.

    Teaching the base subjects for Science, Mathematics, Technology, Engineering demands a teaching body that has a firm grasp on the basics of those subjects….
    
    Our teaching body is deficient in regards these basics.
    
    Our Primary and Secondary education system is full of females – females are less likely to be interested in STEM subjects (no disrespect Maggy but it is just true as many studies have shown regarding tendencies towards things or people)
    
    So we have a teaching body dominated by females who aren’t as interested in things, so people focused subjects are heavily favoured by the teaching body, in terms of their interest and passion, through primary and secondary stages – so subjects like: English, Social Studies, Art…..
    
    Is it any surprise we are not producing more candidates for STEM subjects at University and Polytech levels for our secondary school system??
    
    The place to look at the reason for the destruction of pupil achievement standards is, in my view, firmly inside the teaching establishment at both Primary and Secondary School level.

    Home School and Charter Schools are the solution as the establishment education system has failed.
    
    Actually the Education establishment have totally failed and needs disestablishing to be rebuilt from a clean foundation where leftist ideology plays no part in setting curriculum, teacher professional standards and where social studies areas are curtailed so warped left wing politics are absent.

      When at high school in the late 1960s, I had a maths/science teacher who loved his subject. He was youngish — a little unusual given that post-WW2 older men appeared to predominate for a time. But the important thing is that he imparted his love for the subjects to his class. From memory, the majority of the 32 of us in the class had maths as their top or second top result in School Certificate, and the composition of the class was roughly 50/50 guys and girls. A case of: “Give me the teacher, and I’ll give you the pupil?”

    We’ve been through a period of low unemployment, with lots of bullshit but well-paid public sector ‘feelz’ McJobs that will hire any old gender studies grad to work on luxury woke agendas. People are mostly lazy so take the easy route and avoid more rigorous and demanding subjects like maths and sciences.
    
    And in NZ tech and manufacturing sector is slowly shrinking – less job opportunities and lower wages than other professions.
    
    If we want different outcomes the incentives to students have to change dramatically.

    As in, secondary schools in particular, appear to be well funded but are they directing their efforts into STEM? Are their teachers suitably qualified? Probably less so than ideal? If so that needs attention.
    
    Then as per Maggy’s RNZ article above, there seems to be a fundamental problem in the way tertiary education is funded. That also needs attention (looking at National/ACT/NZF).
    
    If the Education departments can’t figure out a way forward (maybe too many anti-colonial wokery revisionist staff in the way?), can the Govt look at overseas countries that are doing well with STEM and apply the lessons learnt to NZ Education?

  South Africans do mix up their languages within a sentence. The Afrikaans word for “side” is “kant” which is pronounced very similarly to c**t. Afrikaans is probably Bongi’s 3rd or 4th language, but probably when mixed with English is the team’s lingua franca. So wit/white kant would be used to indicate the ball has gone that way. He’s team’s side would be green/groen kant. Also a South African would generally use the term “doos” to call someone a “c**t”.

    Sounds like a bit of a stretch to me. It would depend on the rest of the sentence.
    
    I think if they were calling sides they would more likely to say “ons kant” (our side) vs “hulle kant” (their side) rather than calling colours.
    
    I would expect it would be likely they are using Afrikaans in the scrum as it is less likely to get confused with other players from other teams making calls.
    
    What is silly here is that if he calling him a fucking c-word (in any language) that would not be a problem. Somehow the black or white is the problem.

      During practice they use different colour jerseys and use the colour to identify a side – as in Green lineout, white scrum. That’s what we did when I still could play team sports – even in matches.

Bizarre, misleading article, doxxing, and the lefts agenda.

Headline Newshub “Uni of Canterbury student arrested in halls after ammunition and weapons allegedly found in room.’

The spokesperson said officers found “ammunition and weapons” at the property, which were seized. ”

“He was charged with possession of an offensive weapon (other) and unlawfully carry/possess firearm/restricted weapon/explosives.”

“The student was known for having pro-gun views, including opposing law reforms made following the March 15 terror attack in Christchurch.
Changes included the ban on assault rifles and military style semi-automatics as well as….”

My first impression is this looks serious and like terrorism from a gun fanatic with extreme views, caching explosives and ammo, & assault rifles.

But at the bottom of the One News article (not newshub) they give evidence contrary to the gun extremist narrative they both promote. The Uni spokesperson says that Police arrived and reported “”No-one was harmed, and we understand from police there were NO guns found or involved.”

Wait, what? No guns. The whole thrust of the article was this guy was pro guns, ammo and weapons found, with repeated reference to his pro gun beliefs. But there were no guns.

So were there explosives as the article suggested?

I don’t know. I think they were actually just using the full title of offense 51 reads. “Unlawful carriage or possession in public place of firearm, airgun, pistol, ammunition, explosive, or restricted weapon” So the article reads like he has weapons, explosives, ammo AND firearms, but actually that is the full title of the offence, he may have only had one of those like ammunitions or some suggest a knife. But we know police have said in one article he had no guns. So the article gave the impression there were multiple restricted guns and explosives but no.

By alluding to explosives and now to the Christchurch massacre, and assault weapons (which we now know he didn’t have) my first read was the guy is a terrorist.

And then on social media the person was doxxed. Now mostly deleted. But it showed the person politically on the right who had supported gun rights through correct political process, and was involved in Gun competition and sport. He has ammo but no gun at home because he’s a sports shooter?!

Ammunition with no guns , in the home of a person who shoots competitively, and a submission on a bill to parliament is a completely different picture to the extremist article they wrote.

News in NZ is dire. We are easily mislead and left guessing about the facts.

Our two six year-old twins reading skills are amazing. They really enjoy reading out loud and use phonics to sound out unfamiliar words.

I decided to test their math skills. They were able to add single digits but that was their limit so I made a game out of adding sets of four digit numbers including carrying the 1 when the sum of two digits exceeded 9.

They loved it, clammering to take turns and checking their answers with a calculator.

Hopefully their teachers don’t get upset with me for teaching them the old fashioned way.

  I did a bit of primary school math mentoring. To be fair about “carry 1” there was an effort to get the kids to understand what it means rather than just trot out the algorithm. Had a bit more significance in subtraction ….
  
  Long multiplication is sort of OK, but long division is a bit of a nightmare.
  
  Arguably – given that everyone nas a phone and the phone has a calculator ….

I taught my children to do a *rough* calculation in their heads or on paper, so that when they tapped the calculation in to the calculator they could tell if they had entered the numbers correctly (Your rough calculation says these figures should add up to about 536, and the calculator says it’s 542? Probably the right answer.), or made an error somewhere (You’re expecting about 536, and the calculator says 9542? Might pay to check that again.)

      In my mentoring time I found a significant problem was teaching logic rather than algorithms. If you tell a kid you just bought 3 litres of petrol for $6, they will usually be able to tell you that means $2 per litre. Ask them how they got that and you get a blank stare. Ask how much is a litre when 3.75 litres cost $8.25 and you can get another blank stare.
      
      The key of course is to recognise that this is a division problem. Seems obvious really, but …. Dividing 8.25 by 3.75 by hand is a mindlessly boring time-consuming activity. Doing it on a calculator is trivial.
      
      I take the point about “rough answers”. In my younger days one used a slide rule which – for a long calculation – gave the significant figures OK but offered no cluse where the decimal point lived.

  This is a core skill in engineering (and building and science generally): do a quick mental calculation before relying on the formal result. If unsure, revert to first principles. However, although a technician or a builder may know with a high degree of certainty (for example) what size a steel beam should be in a common situation, that will be based on experience. They may become unstuck in abnormal circumstances.

Police look like they know who killed Samantha Woll and have stated it was not a hate crime

‘ We believe the motivation is very different than a hate crime,’ chief James E. White told reporters during a press conference on Monday. ‘We believe that there are no other groups or anyone else at risk in regard to this particular incident. We believe this incident was not motivated by anti-Semitism and this suspect acted alone.’

But chief White said their investigation has led them on a different path, and they are looking into several persons of interest.

White added that while police do not yet have a suspect, they are confident they are getting close to identifying someone. He would not reveal whether Woll returned home from the wedding alone but said there were no signs of forced entry at the home.

‘We have a number of people that give us interest. We’re just short of calling one of the people a suspect. But we are working to that end,’ he said. ‘And we will be there, but it just takes time, and, again, I’m asking for patience as we work through every aspect of what we’re doing.’

Just after 4pm and I tuned in as usual to HDPA’s program.
Found out that she was not on today but had been replaced by Jack Tame.
As I turned-off the radio I could swear I heard tens of thousands of other people all over NZ doing the same thing.

Just out prepping dinner and heard that lawyer Deba Manning on ZB advocating for the return of arrested Algerian terrorist Achmed Zowie back to New Zealand.

What’s he ever done for this country?

Last I heard he’d been operating a Food Truck selling Kebabs in Palmy.
Hardly someone who would qualify under the Entreprunerial resident catagory is he?

  Note that all the reports refer to him as “a NZ citizen”.
  No mention of his dual citizenship. That would not fit the narrative of a “New Zealander” being tragically detained etc.

Regardless of the circumstances of this tragedy, the parents should have been held to account for naming their baby “Ruthless Empire”.

Poorly named children should trigger an investigation into the parent’s worthiness to raise a child.
