Firstly, evert journalist in the country should read this. This is what journalism looks like. Not attacks on the side you don’t like or breathless reporting on someone shacking up with their intern instead of running an election campaign.

Secondly, every single payment made by the last government needs to be audited. Who decided to make the payments against what application and criteria? Who were they made to and what was the return?

I suspect you will find a lot of so called trusts with unpronounceable maori names as recipients. Many of these are run by white people and I suspect will eventually link back to relationships with senior officials. It is corruption and laundering of taxpayer funds.

I’m sure if Cranmer keeps pushing he will either find enough to take someone like Robertson to jail, or he will get disappeared…

    I mentioned Robertson because he ultimately wrote the cheques but Jones and even Winston were deeply involved in this as well.
    
    The 3 billion they blew is peanuts compared to what Robertson spent, but once you understand that Winston has ties to a company that received pgf money to investigate forestry work, you will be happy for them to go down as well.

Jacinda is busy giving speeches to receptive audiences in the United States. It is like reading about a different person and a magical mythical country, certainly not New Zealand. 🤯

“As Jacinda Ardern, former prime minister of New Zealand and visiting fellow at Harvard Kennedy School, was being introduced during Monday’s John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum, one word kept cropping up: inspiration.”

She flat out lies in the speech. The theme is how she united the country on COVID, gun control, and climate change policy. No mention of the protests, the division, the thousands of lives ruined.

This is what she said about agricultural emissions.

” In the end, finding common ground once again proved successful. “We had to make sure farmers knew there was no blame here,” she said. “And we agreed that New Zealand wanted to be a clean, green nation. To do that we had to know how to address agricultural emissions.”

Total lies. No mention of the fact that the angry farmers descended on cities in their tractors. No mention that the incoming government has abandoned the proposal to price agricultural emissions.

      I met her in person around ten years ago when she was the (twice failed) candidate for Auckland Central.
      I spoke with her for around 3-4 minutes. I knew within 30 seconds she was a narcissistic liar and a complete fraud. Nikki Kaye on the other hand was honest, sincere and a delight to talk to.
      
      I found her meteoric rise to Jesus Christ like adulation completely bizarre. I think many commenters here would be smart enough to see through her if they met her in person like I did.
      
      Her actual skill is picking who she talks to and dictating the terms of the conversation. As you said, “she only speaks to woke audiences”. It’s Orwellian behaviour.
      
      Narrative control. No wonder she demanded a ‘single source of truth’.

        Back in 2009 I watched that speech in Hungary, yer in 2009.Some Sky program.
        I knew then she was trouble if she ever got power. I was right. You know the speech.

        I found myself sharing a leaner in the Auckland Koru Lounge some 7 or 8 years ago – before he was Labour leader, but not much before. I engaged him conversation just to see what he’d be like and I immediately thought “I bet he’s fun at a dinner party – not”. It was little surprise that his own mother wouldn’t vote for him – unlikeable, unelectable and the personality of a dead goldfish.
        
        What i found most bizarre was the stream of lickspittles who came over to the leaner to offer obeisance – not to the man, obviously, but to the power he once wielded as a union thug and was likely to wield as a short-lived and totally ineffectual leader of the Labour party.

Youth adjacent, reasonably attractive with the gift of the gab sadly she managed to fool a majority of the people. Marry in haste, repent at leisure.       Her many “mental illnesses”? Sounds like – as do most of us – she might have ups and downs …good days and bad days. Normal human condition. Not every day is a wonderful day but it seems to have become something of a fashion to claim Mental Illness. Obviously something wrong with me as I don’t believe I have any Mental Illness, nor have I ever been diagnosed with one.
      NB – I am not wishing to throw shade on everyone who suffers. I do know there are people who have serious issues in this regard, none the least a close family member, and several others.

Experiencing different cultures is rich and rewarding, so leisure time finds Mrs kk and I heading away to interesting places. This inevitably involves a bit of time** sitting in aircraft and as a result I’ve become something of an Av Geek. I’ve also come to appreciate that some airlines are safer than others, based on published safety records and on how airlines treat their staff – the people who quite literally have your life in their hands. The vax mandates for flight crew have been alarming for me for two reasons.

Firstly, as cardiovascular damage became impossible to ignore, the FAA adjusted the ECG pass threshold so that pilots who would have previously failed their annual test would instead pass and be permitted to go on flying you and I. If you want to know how lowering safety standards turns out I recommend watching Downfall – The Case Against Boeing on Netflix.

The second reason, something quite possibly exacerbated by the first relates to Squawk 7700. This is a radio code initiated by the flight crew in the case of a General Emergency and is reserved for serious incidents like pilot incapacitation, fire, control surface failures, but not hijacking which has its own Squawk code, 7500. For the nerds amongst us here is an X posting bot that publishes these emergency squawks in real time. You’re welcome.

But back to 7700. The data from that posting bot has been used to produce this alarming chart. Notice how the number of 7700’s tracks in relation to when air crew vax mandates were implemented. 2018-2019 average of 29.1 per month. 2022 average of 108.3 being a 272% increase. 2023(so far) showing a monthly average of 141.6, being a 386% increase.

It is likely that a proportion of this increase can be attributed to passengers experiencing medical emergencies. Hmmm, I wonder why? Anyhow, with an increase in headlines like Another Young Air India Pilot Dies of Cardiac Arrest, 3rd Death in Three Months , the skys look less friendly, and more risky.

Will anyone investigate? I doubt it. The regulatory bodies and the airlines were donkey-deep in the blind groupthink that led to the vax mandates, so we must rely in the tenacity of pilots like Captain Shane Murdock to keep demanding accountability from authorities, and safety for passengers.

Meantime, I’m avoiding small single pilot commuter flights as these pose the greatest risk. The lower risk is on the largest, very/ultra long-haul flights where there are 4 people capable of flying the aircraft.

** I’ve completed the NZ->Europe return journey more than 30 times, and NZ->Australia return flight more than 60 times, and Wlg->Akl flight around 500 times. Stay hydrated, avoid the fish, and don’t bother trying to use an economy class toilet with a full leg plaster-cast. Follow me for more travel tips 😉

  It would be interesting to see the data broken down by the nature of the emergency to see if it is indeed an increase in medical emergencies as opposed to emergencies related to the operation of the airplane.
  
  I also follow aviation issues. Sticking to the safety theme, there has been an alarming number of ‘near misses’ – potential mid air collisions or runway collisions at United States airports. It seems only a matter of time before disaster strikes. ☹️

    I’ve got a good friend who has auto immune issues. She was told she was top of the list to get jabbed.
    
    I tried to explain to her that there was absolutely no data regarding the potential impacts of the jabs on her group. She’s had the lergy 4 times in the last 8 months. Two of these were within weeks of her latest booster.
    
    We had a wee chat at the weekend as she just got over her latest bout. She still pretends to deny that the jabs have anything to do with her problems, but I can tell by her eyes, she’s starting to have her doubts.
    
    On a tragic note, a very good friend has just been given three months to live. Pancreatic cancer. He’s been complaining to the medical centre about stomach problems for almost a year. They fobbed him off saying it was due to painkillers he was taking for a rib injury. Refused to look any further.
    
    He was extremely reluctant to get the jabs but folded as his business came under extreme pressure.
    My brother in law was buried on Friday. Cancer. My other brother in law has been diagnosed with testicular cancer. 50. Fit, non smoker non drinker.

        KK – thanks, I’m going on Friday to visit the friend who just got the pancreatic cancer diagnosis. He was extremely reluctant to get it and had the same concerns you and I and others had, but his business would have been destroyed and likely his life along with it. So bloody sad.
        
        He has a 24 year old daughter and a 20 year old autistic son. His wife died just when the kids were little and he’s brought them up on his own. Now the young girl is going to be left on her own with her brother.

Israel published video on Sunday of what it described as a tunnel dug by Palestinian militants under the Gaza Strip’s biggest hospital as well as closed-circuit television footage of “Hamas terrorists forcibly transporting hostages through” it, as search-and-destroy missions against Hamas have focused on the location in a war now in its seventh week.

While acknowledging that it has a network of hundreds of miles of secret tunnels, bunkers and access shafts throughout the Palestinian enclave, Hamas has denied that these are located in civilian infrastructure like hospitals.

In an update on operations in Gaza City’s Shifa Hospital, the Israeli military said its engineers had uncovered a tunnel 10 meters deep and running 55 meters to a blast-proof door.

“This type of door is used by the Hamas terrorist organization to block Israeli forces from entering the command centers and the underground assets belonging to Hamas,” said a military statement accompanied by video showing a narrow passage with arched concrete roofing, ending at a gray door.

The statement did not say what was beyond the door. The tunnel had been accessed through a shaft discovered in a shed within the Shifa compound that contained munitions, it said.

It also published video of what it identified as closed-circuit television footage from the Shifa Hospital with an Oct. 7 time stamp, “documenting Hamas terrorists forcibly transporting hostages [a Nepalese civilian and a Thai civilian] through the hospital.”

“These findings prove that the Hamas terrorist organization used the Shifa Hospital complex on the day of the massacre as terrorist infrastructure,” said the official Israel account on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.Wonder how the so called “Doctors without Borders “denied the proven facts and truth that the Hamas Death Squads got a free pass operating in and under the huge Hospital as they went about creating murder and mayhem .

  Milei is a classic Libertarian or Anarchocapitalist following most of economist Murray Rothbard’s thinking. Milei even called one of his dogs “Murray” after Rothbard. Melei’s anti-abortion stance however is the exact opposite of Libertarians’ view.

  NZ has essentially been a socialist country since the 1930s when the welfare state was introduced and taxes hiked up ever since. Nats or Labour are just at different sections of the spectrum. Even ACT are nowhere near the classic Libertarian policies of Rothbard and Milei. And to compare Trump and Milei is laughable on most counts.
  
  So it will be very interesting to see how this all plays out in Argentina.

    I would say libertarians are actually rather split on the issue. The question is still the fundamental one, when does life begin? Given life begins at conception, then it’s not at all inconsistent for a libertarian to be anti-abortion on the basis of the inalienable right to life. If you disagree with that premise as a libertarian, you would conclude something else. (Speaking as an anti-abortion libertarian myself.) The majority opinion of libertarians is probably in favour of a right to abortion, but in my guestimation it’s probably in the order of 2:3 in favour of that position among libertarians internationally.

      What if the donor is already dead, does Libertarianism require their organs to be used, even if it’s without their consent (eg through a provision in their will), to enable somebody else to live and thus exercise their inalienable right to life?
      
      Show that compulsory organ donation in such cases is consistent with libertarianism and I will accept that libertarian philosophy can lead you either way on abortion rights.

        I don’t know what they have to say about it, and frankly I don’t even see the parallel you’re attempting to draw. Is forced organ donation a huge issue? The right to life means that no one has the right to take a life through positive action, not that anyone has an obligation to keep someone else alive who would otherwise die. An abortion is a positive action, the teleological end of which is the destruction of life. Some libertarians are “evictionists”, who claim that it should be possible to have an abortion in which the child is removed from the womb, and then if it dies later, that is separate. I disagree with that, I think it’s simply nonsense, since the act of “eviction” is clearly just an abortion and its trying to split a semantic hair that just isn’t there.

        It’s about the right to make use of other people’s bodies without their consent. That’s the parallel. Whether and when the foetus is a living being doesn’t come into it, from that perspective. No post-birth living being has the right to use another person’s body, not even if that other person is dead and not even if life depends on it. Abortion bans leave women with fewer rights than corpses and foetuses with more rights than any other human.

        Well this is proving my point. I suspect we’re both libertarians, but we disagree on the nature of abortion. In my experience, the issue of children (pun intended) is a spanner in the works of otherwise neat philosophical frameworks. Children are not adults, and therefore how adults relate to children (particularly their own) is a distinct issue to how adults relate to other adults. There is a conflict of rights between mothers and children in the case of abortion, but a hierarchy of rights in my view begins with the right to life. It is the single fundamental right upon which all others rest.

        They are a faction started by Rob Fenwick, who came to National from his failed attempts to start his own party, the “Progressive Greens”. This party also included Stephen Rainbow and Guy Salmon, who came with Fenwick and stood as list candidates for the National Party in the 1999 election and 2002 election. Thankfully they were not elected.
        
        Prior to starting the Progressive Greens, Rob Fenwick was a paid up member of the Green Party.
        
        Sid Holland, if he had been alive at the time, would never have permitted them to join The Nats due to their obvious disdain for party founding principles like minimal govt interference in business and freedom of contract.
        
        Incidentally, Rob Fenwick’s writings were among those recommended by Chris Luxon for Maureen Pugh to read when she made the outrageous error of asking Jimmy Shaw to prove the connection between CO2 emissions and recent weather events.
        
        IMHO the Bluegreens are poison to the National Party and they should all be expelled for the reasons above (promoting ideas that conflict with the Nats’ founding principles)
        
        Notable that both Luxon and Willis are proud leading members of the faction.

      He knows that many of the voters are not keen on Jones. Casey is new so it will take time to see how she does. I doubt if she can win Port Waikato but she could get a lot of votes.

  If you listen to the interview with Seymour it appears the deals are done, now need to discuss the portfolios. Act and NZ first to agree with what each other has and to take it to their party. So luxon was right. It also appears the reason it took so long was Winston and Seymour were holding out over treaty policy according to newshub.

“Maori” are no seeking to change the name of Petone to “Pita-one” or some such.

Given the fact that Petone as it stands today is almost entirely the result of colonialist building and structuring – and doesn’t remotely reflect whatever the pretty-well untouched place that “Pita-one” might once have been – the suggestion is utter nonsense.

When promoters of te reo start to accept English words like Christmas or party – instead of bastardising them to “kiremete” or “paati” – there might be a trace of justification in their wants.

In the meantime, the endless inconvenience occasioned to the majority by all the unnecessary and unjustifiable pandering to Maori-wants simply has to stop. Maori have benefited far more from colonial influence than they apparently realise – or that the rest of us have gained from them.

    You could say Māori is written in the Māori alphabet
    because the English alphabet doesn’t have accents.

The continuing news re the middle eats conflict plus comments (often ill informed) have led to me spending up to 8 hours a day reading everything and trying to understand the bigger picture.

Hamas is not Palestine the same as Likud is not Israel. Both parties drive policies and actions for their states.

Hamas as has often been quoted wants the state of Israel to cease to exist.
Likud(the Party of the Prime Minister, Speaker of Parliament and the largest political party also wants Palestine to cease to exist.

“The Government of Israel flatly rejects the establishment of a Palestinian Arab state west of the Jordan river.”
Netanyahu confirmed just before his last election victory in 2015 that there would be no Palestinian state under his watch.

Interestingly enough it was Israel that seem to have started The River to the Sea Meme. later adopted by the Palestinians.

While the Attack on the 7th of October was horrendous. It seems to me that the response was(predictably) similar to the US response to the 9/11 Attacks in New York when it invaded Iraq. Bomb the crap out of the population in a show of strength.

An emotional over reaction. Causing the deaths of thousands to hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians. Politicians wanting to “”do something”.

I have always wondered why such a co-ordinated attack was made by Hamas on the 7th. Obviously a long time in planning.

Before 7th of October the 2 state solution was not discussed and openly dismissed by Israel and its allies. Now it is back on the world agenda. Has Hamas won a political victory?

Like Iraq, I believe that all the bombing and killing will not resolve a damn thing. It was tried in Israel in 2014 and resolved nothing. In fact probably made Hamas stronger.

Even if every Hamas fighter is killed. And Hamas entirely removed. It will be replaced by something else to fight the Palestinian cause.

The families of the thousands of children killed will be fertile grounds for recruits for such an organisation.

Imagine if your family and your neighbors family had children indiscriminately killed by some armed group. (multiply that by 1,000) Would you just carry on in the ruins or would you want revenge for your childrens’ wasted lives.

  How exactly does one negotiate with such an organisation?

  Isreal has
  1) Tried running Gaza
  2) Tried Letting Gaza run itself with Isreal security
  3) Tried Letting Gaza run itself without Isreal
  4) Tried negotiating a 2 state solution (many times). Most recently in 2020 under Trump, Hamas refused to negotiate.
  5) Tried military response to each seni annual rocket attach from Hamas
  6) Tried no military response to each seni annual rocket attach from Hamas
  7) Tried a blockade to prevent weapons into Gaza
  
  What alternate options do they have? What should they do in response to rape, tourture, kidnap and murder of innocent woman and children?

  “Innocent civilians” Like Germans or Japanese civilians in WW2 or Mongol or Roman civilians during the murderous eras of the Golden Horde or Roman Empire. The ‘innocent’ Gazans have allowed Hamas to rule and fester in their violent genocidal ways for 20 years.
  
  A july poll showed: 57% of Gazans express at least a somewhat positive opinion of Hamas. That’s not innocent. Gazan children are indoctrinated to homicidal hatred of Israelis. Not their choice but neither benign nor innocent.
  
  Israel have attempted to disengage from Gaza as much as possible over last 2 decades, and have been continually attacked by Gaza’s chosen and well-supported Hamas regime culminating in Oct 7th. The only sane option for Israel in facing irrationally malevolent and violent Gazan citizenry is to smack down Gaza so hard that there is no appetite for future attacks – through fear of consequence.
  
  Remember also that global polling shows about 15-20% of Muslims are supportive/sympathetic to murderous Jihad (Isis etc). It’s a malignant anti-social cultural norm that has to be smacked down brutally whenever it is given expression, or it will grow and do more damage.

    Japanese civilians in WW2.
    After WW2 and the Korean War my Uncle went back to Japan where he had been stationed. He went to find his Japanese girlfriend and bring her home.
    Aunty Moneko was from Hiroshima. She saw the whole thing. Lost her family.
    A few times I asked her about it – she just shook her head and cried. To this day I still wish Aunty could have told me something. This is all I know, coming from my Uncle.
    Sad, but I do respect her wishes on not talking.
    Many other NZ Army brought home Japanese brides.

        My father was a POW in Austria, then part of Germany, for a few years during WWII
        He worked on farms seven days a week and when they refused to work on Sundays were put in solitary confinement. That nipped the rebellion in the head quick smart.
        He was as skinny as a rake. They didn’t get a lot to eat, but then neither did the farmers
        I used to read all these stories about prisoners escaping from Colditz and wherever and asked him why he didn’t try to escape. And go where, he said
        Some guys from the next farm came walking down the road one day so they put them up for the night.
        Next day they were picked up by the local dad’s army and everyone got into trouble.
        He came back to NZ with no animosity towards the people he was directly involved with, that I could tell, although I don’t think he had much time for the Germans and their superior ways.
        What he knew of their barbaric treatment of the Jews, I don’t know, but he did say one of their prisoner mates from Timaru who was Jewish kind of vanished
        In 1963 he went back to the farm and Mum, who was somewhat apprehensive told us he was welcomed like a long lost
        
        My wife comes from Amphawa, Samut Songkhram on the banks of the Mae Khlong which upstream is the Khwae Yai aka River Kwai.

        We need to recognise them when we see them and try and not amplify their hysterical nonsense.
        
        The Times of Israel article is a deflection and Israeli narrative control. Understandable. All sides do it everywhere, but the evidence would indicate their is validity in the claims made.
        
        The original ’40 beheaded babies’ claim was quickly discredited, very similar to the ‘Iraqis leaving Kuwaiti babies on the floor and stealing incubators’ story from the Iraq war.
        
        Blatant sensationalism like this does serious credibility to the reputation of those pushing it.

    ACC, 15 months after the injury. At 3 months I received a blunt letter informing me ACC was only legally obliged to make a funding decision within 12 months. At 12 months and one week I received another letter stating that because they didn’t advise a decision within the year that they we’re automatically approving the surgery.

        Japanese cars ended the days when, if you went on a Sunday drive, you nearly always would pass at least one car broken down on the roadside, bonnet up, waiting for help.
        
        I asked a mechanic friend for advice about buying a Japanese car. He took me to the yard outside his workshop, once crowded, now with only two cars waiting for work.
        
        “They’re putting us out of business,” he said of Japanese cars.
        
        So I bought one.

In tech news, on the 17th November OpenAI co-founder and CEO Sam Altman was fired from the company by the Board for not being consistently candid in his communication with the Board, and that “Sam’s behaviour and lack of transparency undermined its ability to supervise the company”.

Over 500 OpenAI signed an open letter threatening to resign if the Board did not reinstate Altman and all current members resign.

Altman gave the Board a deadline of 5pm on 19th November to resign for him to come back, and as soon as that deadline passed, Microsoft announced that Altman, and former OpenAI president Greg Brockman, were going to be heading up their new advanced AI Research team. Some OpenAI staff have already quit to follow Altman to Microsoft.

This may be one of the biggest examples of a company carefully aiming and then shooting themselves in the foot.

    Reminds me of the final scene from Thelma and Louise. Gunning the engine and driving towards the Abyss. Given individual profit and power motive it was always going to end this way. So over the last year.

Some Gorilla allegedly tried to beat and strangle a woman i have known for half of my life after she caught him cheating on her shortly after Christmas, no trial until next year after constant delays and claims she is being stalked by him.
Another woman i have known all of my life who has a protection order against her ex-gorilla has had the protection order allegedly violated for years now, police say it is up to a woman who is being stalked to report the breech and not someone else even though i allegedly caught her ex-gorilla dead to rights doing it.
And another woman i have known since she was a very young girl is allegedly getting smacked around by her Gorilla, won’t come down the driveway because she feels shame at the black eyes she has allegedly been given, police called to the address, nothing is done.

Young children present at all of these occasions and the amount of carnage they will cause when they grow up will be catastrophic.
Something has to change with this new government if only to throw these abusive Gorillas into the Zoo where they belong.

Thank goodness – new science curriculum on hold

However, just had this from my son’s science head of department…for ncea 1…

Semester 1
Module A: Future of Transport
Module B: The Final Frontier

Semester 2
Module A: Environmental Science
Module B: Bugs and Guts

They only get to choose one module each semester.

No mention of maths, science, or biology at all. Instead it seems very limited exposure to actual science subjects.

What gives? Dpf says this was put on hold.

  All meant to be taught “in context” around some theme with a pithy name. ..
  Looks like your child will be doing physics/chemistry for semester 1 and biology for semester 2.

  Go back to the science teacher and ask them to describe the broad strokes of what science will be taught in each of the modules.
  
  But you’re right, in 5th form in 1978 science was a broad capture of physics, chemistry and biology

Having just heard Davis Seymour after his meeting this morning with Luxon in effect that he expects to be Deputy Prime Minister as a result of his party coming second.
What worries me as I am not sure even if given a Ministry in his whatever Cabinet role he is given that he has the experience or real professional personality to control a Public Service organisation.
Many of the National’s new MPs let alone the older ones have some sot of outside Parliament experience many in senior roles without wanting an exalted role of Deputy Prime Minister or say Finance Minister.
I believe that David should be given a Cabinet role and Department therefore, and we would see in the next say two years how he performs.
He is still young and a relative novice in terms of management of an office and a corresponding Department.

  9 years in parliament, possibly smartest person in Parliament. Verbally adept – surviving and thriving in very hostile media environment without many mis-steps (whatever our individual personal disagreements with various policy positions may have been). That puts him well ahead of almost all his political peers. He’s been running and growing Act all that time with mentoring from many of NZs wisest and most successful business people.

    His mouth took him from 15% to 8% . He needs to learn so zipp it then he may do better. Deputy PM should be from the largest party as they have to DEPUTISE for the PM, so National should fill that post.

    Regarding the verbally adept, I’m not so sure.
    
    When he’s put under pressure with clearly biased questions by the likes of Chloe Swarbrick, he tries to answer and heroically keeps his cool.
    
    But he doesn’t have any attack lines of his own. He could swiftly put people like Swarbrick in their place with some well targeted lines, but doesn’t.
    
    Now I’m not suggesting tit-for-tat, but having a few zingers up your sleeve sure helps with dominance.

  Link? Not sure what Davis Seymour said, but yesterday David Seymour refused to provide any such statement even when HDPA was goading him into saying he surely expected to be Deputy PM, and Seymour said he would not comment either way on either wanting or expecting.
  Would seem odd if he came out differently in less than 24 hours.
  Better to have a ministerial portfolio in a crucial area for reform than to be Deputy PM anyway IMO. Leave the baubles of office for someone else.

    Sounds like he is not about dying in a ditch for the role, but musing upon the fact they are the 2nd largest party.
    I suppose if media keep pushing for comments they can cherry pick and make a headline around Seymour’s aspirations.
    Next minute, if he isn’t Deputy PM there will be a headline ‘Seymour shunned’ or something.
    
    All pretty silly, but if you express an interest or desire during negotiations and then give it up then it might be a point of trade without really giving up anything at all.
    I think a lot is being made of a little in these ‘stories’.

  I went to see a cardiologist at Wellington recently. Muslim. Didn’t like questions…
  
  On a similar note of lack of accountability, at my son’s school when they read his name out at school prizegiving they butchered it. Not just mis-spelled. Not mis-pronounced. They took his name, threw away one word, and jumbled up the rest.
  
  I wrote to the headmaster and expressed my anger, given from what I could see, of all the names, from all the cultures, his was the only one butchered.
  
  I said I wanted to meet with the person who did that and hear from them.
  
  Headmaster flat out refused. Said I could meet with him, or nobody. This from the guy who spouts on about character, about unity (before announcing the Maori-only prizes), about honour.
  
  I tried again, and said many of those things, and said again that all I was after was an opportunity to talk, and why should he be afraid of talking?
  
  Refused again.
  
  So I told him his offer didn’t meet my cultural needs and that I wouldn’t meet with him.
  
  Good thing it’s my son’s final year there.

      As an ex-journo it was one of the most egregious examples of mis-reporting I’ve seen, especially the blurring because that hid what a lie the story was.
