While the majority of female reporters get their knickers in a twist over the Three Party Coalition and use their own options to make News on what the Government is doing wrong we have the stale Pale Mihingarangi Forbes Maori affairs commentator on the Coalition with “i think they’ve burned the house down and are literally repealing everything they assume as race based”.
Oh how the wannabe privileged believe that it is their right .

  This must be the same Ms Forbes who recently opined on TV, with none of her three fellow panelists dissenting, that David Seymour and pale non-indigenous NZers didn’t need a referendum on Treaty principles but if we wished to understand them, all we needed to do was go to the Waitangi Tribunal which would set us right through its historical and legal experts, thus demonstrating that she understands neither the Waitangi Tribunal nor democracy.

    Remember Mrs Forbes is one of the leading Maori producers for the media, and has been very successful for some years.
    As a result I understand she and her production team, including her cameraman husband, and her previous husband Duncan Garner, have been highly sought for all things Maori.
    Maybe her huge income may drop but I doubt it.

    Wittering on, she failed to understand Maori will get a chance to have their say, just as we all will, through the submission process. Again everyone being treated the same.
    And if her side’s position is right that the Treaty should be interpreted the way it is currently being so, that she can argue that fact and it’s only a minority of racists, anti-vaxxers and cookers pushing this, then her side will win this processs. But her squealing shows she doesn’t believe the first two points.
    And this buzz phrase about the tyranny of the majority – it’s how democracy works. I didn’t see her and Dita di Bonehead moaning about the tyranny of the majority in 2020.

  Sometimes I venture over to “The Standard”…and today there’s a beaut opinion piece that some folks like Mihingarangi should digest…..although as she is a trustee of Ngati Paoa Iwi trust, I suspect she has a damn good idea of what it is saying.
  
  Maori are not owned by the left. Maori interests are not the same as the interests of the left. Maori voters will continue to vote in their own interests. Maori are now significantly in power and in power on their own terms – likely for the next six years.

    The current govt of Germany took 7 weeks to be formed after the German Election last year. Recognising that the NZ MMP election process was based on the German. West Germany was bequeathed MMP after WWII and has never had a single party majority govt. Generally, the lesson is that proportional representation gives coalition govts. The only exception I know of is the Australian Labor govts.

      The last Dutch Govt took 9 months.
      There are 14 Parties.
      I suspect Kowtow is right that Gerders will struggle.
      He needs the New Social Contract party, the Farmers Party and a lot of the smaller ones.
      Unless he abandons some of his, shall we say, more contentious policies I think he will fall short.

      The 151-member Australian House of Representatives is elected by the majority-preferential vote, which we know as PV. As the name suggests, it is a majoritarian electoral system – the same system used to elect the mayors of Wellington, Dunedin, Porirua, Palmerston North, New Plymouth, Hamilton, etc. – whereby the single winners receive 50%+ of the votes, not a proportional representation (PR) system.

  The whole smoking thing is such a load of s#!t and with Winston back (he’s a smoker) hopefully we’ll see Labors policies reversed. My local shop has warned everyone that they are going to stop selling cigarettes next year due to a stack of regulation which means I’ll have to drive 45km to get smokes, and I will. I can’t understand all the cigarette bashing as the young aren’t taking it up. I smoke an average of 30 a day and at $34.50 a pack that comes to over $340 a week and while I can afford it most people can’t. The number of smokers is so low now I just can’t see the point of taking it any further. Isn’t there anything else the politicians have got to worry about? Attacking smokers is really petty.

  Enough of this “if you don’t support us, you’re a Nazi” crap. But if we’re doing historical comparisons, Hamas are more like the unconventional French Resistance in occupied France, while Israel are the expansionist occupying technically advanced Germans. The only difference is, notwithstanding the occupation, France in the early 40s was still a relatively civilised and functional environment. Unlike the Israeli occupied territories. This was probably because the Germans and French were still fellow Europeans and the Germans respected France, rather than being irreconcilable demented enemies of each other.

Watching a very white journalist with a surname, Forbes, churlishly bitching about the new coalition government’s impact on Māori is revelatory. She wants to know what social benefits the coalition will be able to measure by 2024. Somehow in less than a year the coalition is supposed to deliver helpful measurable change. Yet, for 50 years governments have been pouring huge sums of money into every conceivable proposition raised by Iwi, incorporation, Māori individual and every social indices has become worse. Forbes claimed that Seymour’s plans “will divide the nation”. Really??? The nation isn’t divided now?? Overpaid, arrogant Māori elitists and Māori solo mums living in squalor is not division??

She talked “tyranny by the majority”. Tyranny?? All that money and preferential treatment is a “tyranny”. What other possible hand out is possible?

  It will extremely difficult to take any of her ramblings seriously going forward as she clearly showed her total bias and disdain for the new government.

  Joanne Forbes is a prime example of faux white virtue signaling guilt, and the ludicrous situation where someone who’s DNA is clearly only fractionally Maori, identifies as Maori.
  
  The notion of Forbes being ‘Maori’ is almost as ludicrous as a man identifying as a woman.
  
  There is no ‘oppression’ of anyone in NZ. There is no ‘tyranny of the majority’.
  
  There WAS a young country finding it’s way in the world. Addressing historical issues. Egalitarian, peaceful, beautiful.
  Then the wrecking ball called Ardern came along and amplified and accelerated the racist underbelly that used to be on the fringes, by kowtowing to the lunatics in the Maori Party.
  
  Add to that the destruction of health and education, division during covid, tyranny, abuses of human rights. The woman should be in a cell awaiting trial, not being feted around the globe as a ‘leader’ to be admired.

    If she should return to this country (it’s reported she’s been looking at houses in Sydney), she’ll almost certainly be need of 24-hour security at her home and wherever she goes for the rest of her life. Not something to look forward to in any way at all.
    
    I fervently hope that, after all the carnage she is solely responsible for having inflicted, the NZ state will be in no way encumbered with the cost.

      The refusal to admit to any of the benefits of British and European colonization of NZ is absurd and dishonest. The stopping of cannibalism and slavery for example. Clothing,lipstick,celphones,broadband,KFC, the list is endless.     Because how do you achieve something like that without disadvantaging others? Forbes displays racism with a statement like that because if there is to be such a goal, it should be “no New Zealander in poverty”.
    
    Then you get to providing the tools and means for everyone to do their best, but inevitably some will not. And some of those will be Maori. Which allows people like Forbes to point to that failure, while pointing to the success of you and me, and call that difference racism.

      Or that instead of telling Maori they can’t through her moaning, be the example that they can.

    The big headline movies are seldom the best ones, IMO. I sort of want to see Napoleon, but it has some pretty bad reviews and is 2.5 hours long. Likewise, Oppenheimer was okay, but three hours is too much. Asteroid City was about the best mainstream one I’ve seen this year – 105 minutes is okay. I’d go to Killers of the Flower Moon, but it’s well over 3 hours.
    We’re lucky to have the Lighthouse Cinema in Petone, where there is nearly always something worth watching.

      I enjoyed Oppenheimer, it was probably an hour too long, but the story was well told and the acting was good.
      I didn’t know the full story re the politics behind it all. Found it very interesting. Took my 13 year old daughter and she handled it surprisingly well.

  The Steiger one was not about the Little Corsican , twas about his 100 days and his timely demise at Waterloo.
  
  And while admittedly very enjoyable ( music excellent) it had some pretty major inaccuracies .
  
  particularly showing British squares broken ( never happened) and those huge flaming fiery cannon explosions ( when much of their shot actually ended up in the mud, which is arguably one of the reasons the Frogs lost)
  
  Having said that , don’t let me put anyone off . Great film.Highly recommended.

      I am not a Hamas supporter. Israel is between a rock and a hard place in that Hamas have highlighted their problem of what to do with the 3m or so people whose ancestors were displaced in 1948.
      
      Somehow sending them all to Egypt doesn’t feel like a feasible solution that the world would go along with.

    With the latest revelations of extensive tunnel and bunker systems under the hospital, as well as footage of medical staff interacting with Hamas and lying about it, it is clear that Palestinians are not the innocent and blameless party the marxists would like us to believe.
    
    There is no doubt that the death toll would be far greater if the IDF were not showing restraint and took a full on guns blazing approach.
    
    The Palestinian people are culpable in this war, they are not universally opposed to the goals of Hamas. Many are active supporters.
    
    Hamas are happy to use the Palestinian civilian population as its shield. Building the infrastructure it has underneath a hospital is clear evidence of this. They are quite happy to put civilians in harms way to boost their propaganda about the evil Israelis.
    
    I would rather live in a democracy like Israel than under Hamas extremist Islamic rule. So I support the Israeli right to defend their country.
    
    The only problem with this war, is that it appears to be like fighting a Hydra. If they are successful at cutting off the head of Hamas, how many other heads will grow back in its place? Some of which appear to be growing inside NZ with the help of the Marxist Greens. How do we go about getting rid of that head before it starts to hurt our people?

I am currently teaching my teen to drive and so am hyper aware of how much more difficult the road environment is with significantly more people, cycles and lime scooters. We encountered a couple of situations in the last few days: a person walking out in the middle the road despite a red light on the pedestrian crossing; crossing on the road at the multi-lane roundabout instead of the pedestrian crossing that was just installed a metre down the road; and someone standing on the flush median where cars needed to turn into from a side street when there was a lighted crossing a few metres away.

We’ve had a lot of rules in the goal of vision zero and obstacles to make the driver act more safely, but none for the pedestrian.

Should we have a rule like Australia that makes it an offence to cross a road within 20 metres of a pedestrian crossing at a place other than the pedestrian crossing.

And same for cycle paths.

    I day-tripped out to Windsor and did the long, long walk – it’s not called The Long Walk for nothing – from the Castle to the Copper Horse 2.6 miles km away. The road, and I should have twigged, is a closed-to-the-public road and hence is most likely to be used either by a Royal or a Royal flunky. Anyways, I was strolling along, mid road, headphones on, music blaring, and I got parped by a Landrover that wanted past, I turned around, made that gesture of apology that you do when you realise you’re being a klutz and a young, blonde woman waved as she went past. No idea if it was Princess Diana or not but hey, these are my journals and my fantasies, right, so it were her, okay!

    I recall being on a light controlled pedestrian crossing in Tokyo. There were no cars coming, so I momentarily thought about crossing against the light, which I do in New Zealand if I am confident that it is safe. Just in time I remembered where I was, and waited with everyone else 🙂

      I’ve read ‘JFK and the unspeakable’.
      
      JFK and the Unspeakable is a book by theologian and Catholic Worker James W. Douglass that analyzes the presidency of John F. Kennedy and the events surrounding his assassination. Douglass proposes that the “unspeakable” is the multifarious modern Satan that took the form of a movement in the upper reaches of Kennedy’s own national security state to kill the president as he made a radical and inspired turn toward peace. The book provides context to understand why the assassins of JFK would take the monumental risk of killing a U.S. President, then running a cover-up for decades.0 Kennedy himself left behind hand-written notes to himself, quoting Abraham Lincoln: “I know there is a God — and I see a storm coming; If he has a place for me, I believe that I am ready.”
      
      I’m currently reading ‘The hidden history of the Kennedy years – Brothers’.
      
      Both books study the period in depth. References and quotes to key actors at the time, famous and not so famous.
      
      I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that there was a conspiracy, that this included members of the US government and security services, it included members of the underworld, and it almost certainly included members of the Cuban exile community in Florida and elsewhere.
      
      There is not a snowball’s chance in hell that Lee Harvey Oswald carried out that act on his own. As he said in his own words. “I’m a patsy”.
      
      It’s a bit like the implications of the vax experiment we’ve been subjected. Every shred of evidence indicates that the jabs are responsible for many deaths and many more injuries, but people like Mike will still claim ‘correlation is not causation’.
      
      There comes a point where irrefutable proof is no longer, there is more than enough circumstantial evidence.

    Oswald was a bitter loser with delusions as to his destiny for greatness and a violent disposition. The evidence that he did the shooting is overwhelming. No one put him up to it – he was a loner who rebelled angainst all authority, wouldn’t take orders and was highly unstable. Even if he accepted instructions from someone the idea that the mafia, CIA or anyone else would entrust the crime of the century and indeed their own lives to him is ridiculous. There was no realistic evidence of a second shooter – pointing out minor potential inconsistencies against the mountain of evidence doesn’t count. These doctors are trying to make a few final bucks before they shuffle off. Kennedy was only in the Parkland trauma room for minutes. There was pandemonium trying to deal with the head wound to save his life. No one investigated the throat wound and they never turned him over to see the real entrance wound in his back – they didn’t know the wound was there. Their thoughts coming 60 years later are worth nothing and the fact that this is promulgated by Rob Reiner should be enough to show this story is fake and should be ignored.

        Yes they knew the neck wound was there. The tracheotomy was done almost immediately by Dr Perry as he could see Kennedy was struggling to breathe. He noticed there was already a small hole in the throat – which he was told was a wound. He used that hole for the tracheotomy and didn’t investigate it before doing so. He never saw the entrance wound in Kennedy’s back.

  To add to this, there is the case of Dorothy Kilgallen, the delightful panellist on “What’s My Line” – but also a determined and well respected journalist. She was investigating the JFK assasination, and had told others she was close to cracking it …. and then found dead in mysterious circumstances, almost “Munroe -like”.
  
  Two books have been written on the case by investigative reporter Mark Shaw, including some of her material that survived (obvious the key bits did not), and additional autopsy data.

  Jimmy Hoffa was an American Labour Union president. A very dodgy fellow and staunch socialist. He was involved in pretty much every crime you can think of. He had strong links to the mafia.
  
  The JFK administration was anti-unionism. They considered it a threat. The leading theory is that Hoffa colluded with the CIA and the mafia to assassinate JFK. It was a socialist coup of sorts and the USA has never been the same since.

  Kids are coming home thinking that the world is ending, and that calling something “racist” is an automatic argument winner.
  
  They don’t know how to reason. But they know what to believe. This long march through the education institutions is not new, there seems to be a generation of millenial monsters, who have all failed to fire and are now in their 20s and completely unable to function. “Tomorrow’s schools” eh? Didn’t that turn out well.
  
  Fortunately the younger kids seem to be a bit savvier about the indoctrination, and consider their older peers to be “lame”.
  
  If the entire education bureaucracy was shuttered tomorrow, standards would improve.

A sad story of the different worlds New Zealanders live in. A little girl burst out crying in her primary school class when they were talking about animals and zoos. She said her family can’t afford to go to the zoo and she wanted to see the monkeys. As it’s a two hour journey to the zoo the cost of fuel and entrance fees is beyond the family means in these tight financial times. I know there has always been the rich and poor but the gap is getting bigger every day. We are seeing what we can do.

I would like to see the new Education Minister investigate what unbalanced Climate Change ideology is being force fed to students.
Kids are suffering climate anxiety and getting radicalized by adult Green activists (Marxists) and encouraged to go on strike or marches in class time or worse. It is a form of child abuse and an extreme example of that being Greta Thurnberg (the climate goblin) .

It is slowly dawning on me the massive corrupting influence on NZ society by the Treaty of Waitangi and the industry it has spawned.

All around us now we see interests, threatened by the new government, now apoplectic – screaming potential Armageddon and finding no hyperbole too great in attempting to stir up opposition to their treats,
power and positions being taken away.

I will not say that all recent opposition to the new government’s Treaty and Maori policies is fuelled by self-interest, but I do say a majority of it is.

I also think the majority of New Zealanders would be amazed if they actually knew the full extent of the money on offer and roles available to folk for merely and supposedly representing Maori interests. All the hundreds of crown entities, working groups, consultation bodies, directorships, service providers, the hundreds of roles on our civil service newly created to manage relationships with Maori, media folk, funding bodies etc etc etc.

All these people and groups no longer just represent Maori interests, if they ever did – they also now have their own interests to protect and protect them they will.

They won’t want any taps turned off. They’d be aghast at the thought of having to turn to and actually look for jobs or customers like the rest of us.

The Treaty industry now has a life of its own – participants in which have roles, prestige, incomes, profits and their retirements to protect and they’ll scream blue murder if they feel that those interests are threatened – all with the language of ‘protecting Maori’ of course.

The only interests they are protecting are their own and their privileged positions influencing and directing the extraction of money from the pockets of New Zealand families into their own.

The whole thing’s corrupt. It’s a racket.

      As an example, in my case genetics make me a greater risk of heart disease. Then there are at risk behaviours that increase the risk — lack of exercise, poor diet, consumption of alcohol etc. Not presenting for a checkup could also be a factor but not necessarily the cause of an early death from heart attack.
      
      While not getting a check-up is a factor, what impacts do at risk behaviours play in the cervical cancer outcomes?

  I find this a bit confused. I’d imagine any statistics on stage 3c would be across the board. So is she saying that she has stage 3c or something else?
  
  If she has stage 3c are the statistics now collated on race?
  
  Stage 3c is pretty advanced cancer. Was it not detected in any of her regular pap smear tests or did she not undertake any? There is pretty heavy bleeding involved with cervical cancer, did she not seek any medical advice?
  
  What I really don’t understand is given a bunch of people of different ethnicities with exactly the same cancer diagnosis, is it really true that women with some Maori ancestry are the only ones that don’t respond to the same treatment?
  
  That doesn’t make sense.

  If a referendum is to be held on 4 year tenure of governments, why not at very little cost then add a question on whether there should be a similar referendum later, as David Seymour has suggested, on returning the Treaty to it original understood form without the 1986 add-ons – use one referendum as the opportunity to check out the viability of the other referendum

  But a 3-year term is about one of the only safeguards we have on out of control government. Imagine if Ardern/Hipkins had not had to answer to the people until October next year? How much damage would have been done? How much worse our position?

If it weren’t so pathetic it would be hilarious. These women do a slow-motion dance with this guy, eventually calling for more cars to assist.

Perhaps these four were brought up on a diet of mindless media and entertainment that portrays women mixing it up with bad dudes and winning. Girls can do anything! Our diversity is out strength!

It’s also probably how female athletes feel when a man identifies as a woman and breaks all their records by huge margins.

By the end, I was rooting for the shoplifter.

    It’s not four cops doing their job, it’s a waste of training and the huge cost of paying cops that can’t detain and arrest a criminal.
    
    One male cop would have a shot at dealing with this guy. Two male cops would have him in cuffs within seconds.
    
    But what we see is double that number of cops and double the cost to the taxpayer, and despite that the still need to call for backup, for more expensive cops to get the job done.
    
    That’s an incredible waste of resources and more importantly a *reduction* in police capability. While all these police are dealing with this one man, other crimes are going on, unattended.
    
    What are you grateful for? That the police are diverse and inclusive? I want police that can do the job. These cops can’t.

      Or this cop getting a ride from a member of the public during a foot chase

        Oh, dear. The first shows a single male cop fighting an *armed* man. The second is about an officer getting a lift in a car to pursue someone, and the third is about an officer who has been shot getting help.
        
        In what way are they the same as four cops being unable to subdue one suspect who is not armed, is not running away from them and who has not shot any one of them?
        
        Pathetic excuse-making.
        
        Are you suggesting that four male cops would not have been able to restrain and arrest one man who they already had physical contact with?
        
        The inescapable fact is that in the police, military and many other occupations, men do the heavy lifting and make up for the physical deficiencies of their female co-workers.
        
        For every female frontline officer employed, we have a more expensive and less effective police force because they are less capable of physically doing the job when push comes to shove. The conceit is that females can do the same job. They can’t. Men have to subsidise them with the effect being extra costs and lower safety standards.

        You might want to research the suspect who had just committed an armed robbery, at the time of his arrest he was carrying what was thought to be a gun, but turned out to be an imitation fire arm, something not known until he was arrested.

        I’m commenting on the ability of female cops to do the job when it’s really needed. That’s not sexism. That’s about ability.
        
        You are denying the reality of the large differences in strength between men and women. You’d rather put the lives of the officers and the public at jeopardy than recognise this fact. You’d rather waste money that could be used in effective policing on ticking inclusivity and diversity boxes rather than employing the most capable to do the job. You’d rather let suspects get away than recognise that female cops are far less likely to be able to restrain and arrest them.

        Four women didn’t do their jobs. They failed to restrain and arrest one offender despite overwhelming odds in their favour. It’s so wicked a failure as to be moral wrong.

        The subject resists police and takes off running.
        Patrick Johnson-Henry, 32, was taken into custody on the 9400 block of S Justine and was charged with 4 counts of resisting police, 1 count of possession of a replica firearm, 1 count of retail theft.

        The line should be, escaping from female officers who if replaced by male officers would not have been able to escape and cause other officers (probably male) to later arrest the suspect requiring huge additional resources desperately needed elsewhere.
        
        That a suspect is later brought to justice in no way obviates the moral bankruptcy of employing women to do a man’s job.
        
        Your philosophy is what is driving our civilisation down to the level high of commonplace criminality and fecklessness.
        
        Make the police 100% women and see how we do. Men, women, same difference. Right?

The obvious retort may be: is Campbell, with his Ardernal condescending tone, also apt to have “late-night woke ravings of a man alone in a forest” (to verbally faffel as Campbell does)? – but would rather he investigate if road signage is to be bi-lingual, why should Maori be first when the majority non-Maori language-fluent drivers need instant safety information, at the lettering size, colour and placement determined for their optimum safety, rather than a te reo lesson or language normalisation at 50 – 100 kph?

  While a truism it’s “strange” that Campbell never asks why changing the name of the New Zealand Transport Agency to Waka Kotahi would save a single human life either. It’s only a name after all.
  
  I say “strange” because as Campbell well knows, the name change was never intended to do such a thing. It was intended to be part of an overall propaganda campaign, part of de-colonisation, and he was fine with that because he supports that concept, while seeing a reversal as the triumph of its opposite; “reactionary” White colonialism which he opposes and which he does see in mere names – when he chooses to.

  The terror organisations that hide within and are sustained by the Palestinian Arab population are like a cancer that from time to time the doctors have to beat back with terrible treatments. Yet they are never totally defeated, merely put into remission, ready to flare up again and metastasise.
  
  The two-state solution is a lie. Gaza is exactly the two-state solution. But it has shown itself not to be capable of existing as a border state with Israel. It’s function appears to be to act as a launch site for rockets and staging grounds for murderous attacks.
  
  So, BN is actually correct. In the end the cancer must be cut out, and as so often happens, other material is cut out with it. This is not the fault of the patient but survival demands it be done.
