Some points about National that many are overlooking. NZ is a subsidiary state of GAE. GAE calls the shots for NZ. Examples are the climate scam and the forced mass experimental vaccination.

As National is a core NZ party they can’t deviate from instructions from GAE. If National say ordered a proper investigation of the death and injury rates from the vaxx it would greatly upset GAE. To the point GAE would crush NZ via interest rates and ending capital flows. NZ is a massive debtor nation that relies heavily on overseas funding. That is a harsh recession or even depression would be inflicted upon NZ by GAE. National led govt would be gone. A GAE fully complaint far left govt would be installed. As we have seen with the US Trump vote, UK Brexit vote and Truck resistance in Canada. GAE was very upset. Mass immigration from the third world has followed into these countries as punishment. That is NZs future should National carry out what many here want. A society crushing far left govt together with mass uneducated non-English speaking immigration from the third world.

What can be done? Push National from the sides such as NZ First and Act are. Understand the game. National have to react somewhat to local pressure. Work through MMP, that is support ACT and NZ first they can hold National to account. Anything to the left of National and their supporters is an utter wasteland of GAE DEI societal degeneration. National’s primary job is to keep Labour out of govt. Realistically they can’t be expected or relied upon to do much else unless pushed by the minor parties. But only to a point.

    * 3 of those were taken up (slowly) counting the specials
    * a further 2 sorting out the Coalition agreements etc.
    * another week on formalities when Parliament opened.
    
    Yet you are writing off ACT on one tenuous poll. Look for them to be back in the 12% to 15% range at the next election.
    
    Have you not noticed it is the ACT driven legislation that is/has been pushed through the House so far. Obviously the best prepared of the three coalition partners.
    
    National could learn a lot from ACT and its MPs – good and all as Luxon has been so far. At least he recognises where the base work and preparations have been done

      I don’t think so, I am not talking about one poll at 12-15% they had one at 18% it triggered Seymour to become arrogant, and his suggestion he would leave the economy yo stagnate on the cross benches was ridiculous and scared many new ACT voters away, I have friends that voted for them in 2020, they were ready to vote for them in 23 but changed their minds at the last minute snd said sorry but we have had governments we can’t trust and voted Nats, his rubbishing of Peters seen him take a huge hit, now he has his party down at 6% no way will will they be back to 12-15%

    I was invited to Topp Twins concert in the park in ChCh many many years ago. A disabled guy wandered across the crowd and one of the “twins” insinuated to the crowd (apparently in an attempt to gain laughs) that he looked like a child molester. That stuck with me for a long time
    and was probably very close to the beginning of my journey in discovering that lefties are generally not very nice people when you scratch the surface.

        My contention is that ‘potentially life-saving medicines’ are also potentially deadly medicines, on account of the clear and obvious conflicts of interest present in the regulatory agencies. Therefore making approval contingent to two agencies being in agreement does not reduce the systemic risk.

        I suspect you have the RNA vaccines mandated by Ardern in mind. If so, I have no argument at all with you over that. Nonetheless, many medicines that could save lives are caught up for long periods in Medsafe’s approval procedures.
        
        The question is not so much whether you think medical regulators are subject to conflicts of interest – and I agree that they are – but whether you think Medsafe is any less so than agencies in places like Australia, the US and the UK.
        
        My view is that requiring Medsafe to replicate evaluations that have been carried out elsewhere results in unnecessary delays in getting useful medicines to kiwi patients.

        MJ: Approval by Medsafe is just the first step. Allocation of money across the medicinal spectrum is done by Pharmac and there will always be more $ demand than supply. Furthermore, it’s about a lot more than just funding the latest very expensive cancer drugs.

    A friend of mine, in Early 2022, was given 1 month to live with multiple tumours as a result of Melanoma. He insisted on a self funded course of Pembrolizumab against the wishes of the Oncologist who essentially gave him a death sentence.

  The commercialisation of Christmas and so many other innocent traditions, not to mention the proliferation of other (shopping opportunities) saddens me. So many people worry about overspending, having to spend time with unpleasant family members, or being alone for any number of reasons. No longer a joyous event. Have a lovely holiday everyone!

    I’m one of the many over seventies and as far back as I can remember Christmas was always a time for extra shopping – for both gifts and festive food luxuries. Shops always were decorated with twinkling lights and Santa sat in his grotto. Nothing new going on.

      Back in my school days, 1975/6, so about year 9 I wrote an English essay “Christmas – Just a Commercial Enterprise”. As I recall it was the best essay I ever wrote, even my English teacher was impressed. Funny the things you remember when they make an impression on you.
      Interestingly back in South Africa prior to about 1970 Christmas wasn’t that commercialized.

        New Year celebrations used to be big in Otago-Southland, a carry-over from settlers from Scotland, where Hogmanay, the New Year celebration, is still a big event.
        
        Calvinist Presbyterians long frowned on Christmas celebration. Christmas Day wasn’t a holiday in Scotland until 1958. That took about 400 years to achieve.
        
        Old folk from Otago-Southland may recall vestiges of “First Footing” on New Year’s Eve, when the first person to enter the home after midnight had to be dark haired. The following source says goes the custom went back to Viking times, a sort of “thank God, it’s not a Viking”.

    Santa Clause comes out of Europe. There are several sources, but most of them point to Saint Nicholas who went around on Christmas Eve (anonymously) giving gifts to the poor. In most Germanic languages, Nicholas was “Nicklaus” or similar. Over time Saint Nicholas was corrupted to the current Santa Clause (I’m sure you can see the similarity in the names), and over time commercialized.
    Many European countries still refer to Santa Clause as “Nicklause”, as does my German wife and some Dutch friends (Sinterklaas)
    I’m not sure if this is the same St Nicholas of Myra, but my understanding is they are two different Saints.

        $NZ 22,169 or so!
        
        Happily, the HKJC were able to direct-credit my NZ bank account with much of that … the largest note over there is $HK1,000 and I sure as hell didn’t want 105 of the b*ggers in my wallet!

  I believe that the birth of Jesus was the most amazing event in history. However, I am very ambivalent about Christmas. I enjoy the trappings, but commerce has cemented the trap in trappings.
  
  The early Christians never celebrated Christmas, and they certainly never would have done so in mid-winter. There are many good reasons to question a December date: For a start the Emperor would not have been so stupid as to order a mass movement of the population (which the census required) in the middle of winter, and the shepherds would not have had their flocks out in the fields in a brutal Israeli highland winter (Bethlehem is a long way above sea level).
  
  My wife, born in England, has never adjusted to the Kiwi Christmas though she’s been here some 50 years. We spent a year back in England in the mid-1990s, and suffering that winter gave me a strong appreciation for the need for some joy in the midst of it. Christchurch in winter is a holiday by comparison. Incidentally, if you were to place London on this side of the world, it would be some 200 miles south of Invercargill (with the remainder of the British Isles heading towards the South Pole). Thank goodness for the Gulf Stream.

  The problem is the statistical test used by the Climate scientists to identify what is driving climate changes (fingerprints) is not used by Economists because it is unreliable and biased, while better tests exist.
  
  Its use means the models overstate the role of GHGs, and undermine the assumptions behind eg COP28.

Its hard not to be racist when to run a business in this country you have to invest in infrastructure, then gift it to maoris and lease it back… and just to really make your day, on top of the lease you get to pay 3% of revenue (not profit – sounds like robertsons was involved here as he doesn’t understand the difference) and a $3450 yearly payment for demolition costs.

No wonder rural nz has become an unproductive, crime filled shithole.

  You forgot to mention they have to also pay for any maintenance the jetty requires. I worked out there are 6 requirements:
  1) Build it
  2) Gift it
  3) Rent it
  4) Maintain it
  5) Fund the future demolition cost
  6) Pay 3% on gross revenue

    Reading about a Head Boy’s speech at a high school yesterday and him famously “coming out” I just want to ask if all the clamour around this is necessary. Gay has been openly with us since ages (some in my own immediate family). Imagine if a heterosexual head boy had stood there and announced his sexual preferences!

Listening to Winston Peters on his recent trip to Fiji I believe that he can create more harmony in the Pacific nations than many of his predecessors.
Imagine the difference between Mahuta with her overweight tattooed face, and Peters quietly with Rambuca, and a bottle of Whisky between two old men, despite my abhorrence at his deal with Ardern. I believe we may well see the best of Peters.

Am amused this morning to hear from the so called media in joy that the RNZAF B757 is once again nbg for Luxon’s trip to Canberra tomorrow.
So he will have to goin one of the new extended B737 design Poseidon airforce aircraft.
What a shame as I expect it only has some 6/8 seats, so the media will get all huffy as they cannot do their Christmas shopping in Canberra.
Typical Labour – how do we stuff National – do nothing about the two useless B757 (ex Canada Air) and leave them in the poop.
National should charter two B 737s, in the short term, whilst they get information on new aircraft for New Zealand use.

  The 757s were 10 years old when purchased from Transavia Airlines, a budget Dutch airline. IIRC they then went to the USA for two years to be extensively modified for military use.
  
  Buying ageing second hand airplanes and converting them for military use seems like false economy.
  
  Hopefully the lesson has been learned. The recently delivered Poseidons were the first new fixed wing aircraft delivered to the RNZAF since the Skyhawks in the early 1980s.

Te Mana o te Wai is a mixture of plain common sense and stating the obvious, entrenched with aspects of Te Ao Maori (Maori world view / religion) – it is the latter that the new Government should closely examine

That the letter names Te Mana o te Wai, indicates it is the target area,

Using three standards, Government should determine –
• What is simple common sense
• What is Maori religion, since Government should be secular, and
• What elevates any ethnicity above any other, since the Treaty, Articles 3, indicates the entire population are “British subjects” with equal citizen rights and responsibilities and Human Rights confirms the same. Maori should not have Aryan exceptionalism.

        I mean, I assume (certain) Māori don’t believe, for instance, that the water that comes out of their household taps has a “life force”, but they may well believe that bodies of water, such as the Waikato River, Lake Rotoiti, or Lake Waikaremoana, do – although, as you and I agree, they would still be wrong; it is, as you say, a religious belief.

Take just one example of government advertising spending in NZ, namely related to Covid. An Official Information Act (OIA) request showed that “A total of $87,657,993 has been spent by DPMC on public information campaigns in support of New Zealand’s COVID-19 response between 1 March 2020 and 31 December 2021”. Add that $90 million to the $55 million journalism fund and you’re on your way to $145 million. That is the tip of the iceberg – huge numbers of government job advertisements are also placed in the media. By the way, the OIA above also stated, “I am therefore refusing your request to have this information broken down by medium”, so “they” have made it impossible to get the data in NZ linking the ads to outlets that are government friendly.

Apparently covid was estimated to decimate the media to the extent of $55 million.
So the Labour Government gave the media the $55 million and had them swear allegiance to the 1980s’ Treaty of Waitangi – which was a little bizarre , but without fulfilling the desires of the Maori Caucus the Government could implode.

has Sky outsourced its Sky support? I ask as I complained to them about the cost of our packages going up yet and made a few suggestions as to programmes they could show like Michael Palin in Iraq, the newish series of Great Canal Journeys and the more up to dates of QI.

The reply I got didn’t leave me any the wiser but it did hope I was well twice; was glad I had reached out to them ( oh how I hate that word); they wanted to reach out …… You get the picture.

The reply was obviously either from a robot or someone with an English manual of nice things to say when you are saying nothing.

I can’t even find a PO box for Sky so I can complain to a real person.

    I don’t know, BY. There are more folk living in cheap (taxpayer subsidised) housing these days, including motels and other transitional accommodation. And a fair bit is directly the result of recent Labour policies.
    
    Those policies would be the ones that protected tenants so much that landlords no longer made them an offer. Or the policies that forced costs up to the point that some rentals were sold and new builds dropped away. Or the policies that opened the immigration floodgates right when supply was insufficient, and that is yet another reason potentially risky tenants get to stay in a motel at income related rent.

    I’m not so sure BY, the staff aren’t backing down at all but we’re not told why. Keeping in mind that you can walk out the door as long as the goods in your trolley are under $1000, I imagine some staff might be getting jumpy when a trolley hits over $800 – at Kmart.
    The staff had a choice, they could wait for her to walk out and charge her with shoplifting (probably a massive waste of time and money for Kmart) or they could challenge her instore thus forcing her to simply pay for her goods.
    If I had been accused of shopliftifting I certainly wouldn’t be telling the media unless I wanted some sort of payout. Why call the papers and attract attention to your possible dishonesty? This lady doth protest too much methinks.

  I’ve had a couple of experiences of my online shopping falsely being declared “fraudulent” and my money refunded with goods not sent for no stated reason. Yet the same credentials and payment card work fine on other online sales platforms.
  
  On one occasion I rang the retailer and was told to “try again with different credentials”. I was also told they can’t view the reason their “fraud protection software package” labels someone’s transaction fraudulent. I think we will see a lot more of this crap in the near future. The authors of the Graso et al. study did not mention an important fact: fear and creating divisions and hatred towards the unvaccinated were completely intentional and had a purpose: to force vaccine refusers (who knew everything Maja Graso et al. described above, in 2021) to vaccinate through alienating their relatives and friends.

I saw the Mayor of Wairoa on the news recently saying that the government had to help out those residents of the town who did not have insurance.

The lack of insurance is a conscious financial decision. You choose to forgo the safety net to have more disposable income. However there now seems to be an expectation if you choose that course then the government must bail you out and elected officials will advocate on your behalf.

There is even a parable for this story of moral hazard – The Grasshopper and the Ants.

When did personal responsibility leave the building?

  Couldn’t agree with this more! So often the cry “and they weren’t insured!” and the expectation that others (taxpayers usually) will pick up the slack. I am a pensioner. I pay my insurance so I will protected if the worst happens. Can’t afford to pay others costs too.

  Some of our stuff is not insured. The would be premiums go into a slush fund.
  Boat is partially insured, so if there are no claims I can get extra goodies now and again like GPS/Fishfinder or just consumables.

  It could be argued that house insurance is an expensive scam
  For example
  I’ve owned a house and paid insurance for about fifty years. That’s probably about the equivalent of $70k in premiums. In that time I’ve made minimum claims.
  Nobody in our family has had a house written off in that time. That’s maybe $1.5-3mil in premiums
  If we decided instead to cancel the house insurance and all chip in in the unlikely event a house was lost we’d be better off.

  I heard of a huge factory in Egypt where everyone gave a few bucks if one of their number became seriously crook and needed expensive treatment

Looks like some guards at Rimutaka have succumbed to temptation or something and inmates have been offering sex in exchange for contraband. I wondered at first if the sex was with inmates but it looks like some Bar Manager called Jacinta Cherry was the supplier of services. Wonder if her employer in the Hutt Valley is looking for her as well as the Police. She didn’t show up to Court and so her name was released.

I just read some news about the use of AI to create nonsense sites spewing misinformation and it occurred to me that this ought spur news sites to ensure they’re well edited, with good grammar and sensible logic – otherwise their cheapo spew won’t be distinguished from machine vomit.

  Never got to speak with TheMan himself but his stories/commentaries were well worth the listen.

I refer to the tesla clean car rebate issue, and his learning of Maori. Both are non issues but his explanations were clumsy.

John Key was far better at rebuffing idiot questions… and Winston is the master. Luxon needs to drop Te Reo and start learning Winston style rebuffs!

Intently focussed on whether or not Peters knows the English name of Kainga Ora (I didn’teven know there was one, and I’m sure many don’t know what it’s actually meant to do), but apparently not too bothered about whether it’s delivering anything useful from the billions of taxpayer dollars currently being shovelled its way.

TV3 Cooking program today which started at 3pm.

An advertisement from Countdown for Whittakers Chocolate Blocks, now for $4.50 each.
The ad. also says “25% off” and “Save $1.79”.

Who at Countdown is checking these figures ?

My calculations say that the original price was $6.00, and 25% off gives $4.50.
And we save $1.50, not $1.79.

Trivial , I know, but bloody annoying.

I heard all this BS about Luxon’s wife. As a matter of principle, it does not matter whether it is local or central government a person’s family and especially their wife is relevant is some cases.

If a minister’s wife holds shares and the minister influences the share price it is relevant just like the issue with airport shares.

Many very wealthy people are very generous. Luxon does not appear to be one of them. It appears he has not made a donation to the National Party over $15k.

Pay the money back Luxon you tight ass.

  Why should Luxon donate money to national? This is national, they have substantial donations and don’t need their mp’s to keep the money flowing, unlike labour.
  
  If a government allows a rebate for wealthy people to buy a car then good on the wealthy people for using that government scheme. No one should then have to pay it back when the scheme is stopped.

On the TV news tonight… emergency shipping containers worth 10’s of thousands of each are being delivered to tribes around the motu.

Right at the end, they say it is funded by the tribe, and Te Puni Kōkiri … in other words, yet another taxpayer funded sop for maori, possibly millions of dollars… but, the journalists kept the funding details very very quiet.

Robertson getting desperate to try and salvage his beyond repair reputation as finance minister. Has got his shill, Thomas Coughlan at the nzh to try and write an article saying National left unfunded policies. The article is so useless it doesn’t even give a total of the ‘unfunded’ policies. I don’t recall Robertson yelping at the time about anything like that. At any rate that was 6 years ago and over $100b of borrowed money later by Robertson.

Robertson clearly hasn’t got any work offers on the table or else he would have high tailed it out of parliament by now. It would be totally negligent for Otago University to offer this man any sort of job involving government funding. In fact I hope the government cuts Otago’s funding if they do go ahead and hire Robertson.

Te Whatu Ora has revealed a small number of people may have been identified in stolen Covid-19 vaccination data.

Earlier this month a former staff member released information online but Te Whatu Ora said at the time there were no identifying details and the data was anonymised.

The health agency was also looking into the possibility the person who leaked the data took other information.
