  Australia is an excellent example of having two essentially indistinguishable parties swapping positions every few years but taking the country in exactly the same direction. Britain and America are other examples.
  
  In Britain particularly, “Blairism” has been the policy for 25 years, 14 of which have been “conservative” governments.
  
  “Liberal democracies” are really just a power sharing arrangement between parties representing the interests of the same special interests.
  
  This is why one liberal democracy is essentially indistinguishable from all the others in their fundamental policy programs and trajectories. .

Every now and then Piers Morgan does a decent interview on his YT channel ‘Uncensored’. This is one of those IMO

Eric Weinstein has been described as todays Einstein (maybe he is). No doubt he has very high IQ (maths etc).

They cover a wide range of topics, COVID, MSM, scientists that lie, crappy universities, nukes, Gaza, Ukraine,……

Near the end Morgan tries his usual click bait trap, but Weinstein is way too clever to fall for it – good to see how he handles it.

Anyway, I found it an interesting watch (not saying I agree with all his views but he gets you thinking)

  Nothing to do with the prime minister or government, they are not part of the funding decisions of the film commission. As for the funding they are spending, it will be from budget 2023. They also get grants from lotto and income from their films.
  
  I’m not going to watch the movie and I have no doubt it will bomb. But just because people don’t like Ardern doesn’t mean a film shouldn’t be funded. It’s got international backing

    It will bomb for normal people but it’s being made for the Ardern cult and zero covid nut jobs. They keep 10% of population bubbling along with Ardern as some sort of covid hero which they can use as a base for the next manufactured crisis. A base of harden nutjobs which didn’t exist in 2020. A reservoir of permanent brain washed to draw upon when needed in the future.

    The guy who assaulted James Shaw and broke a bone by his eye socket got nine months in jail and no name suppression. This was roughly the same injury as caused to the 71 year old woman.

    They are wanting to bring in less of a discount on sentencing, and three strikes, it takes time to change law, surely we can give them a chance, apparently it’s automatic 50% discount, then add in race discount, behaviour since arrest, up bringing and family situation, this leads to some doing 20% of the time, but they want no less than 2/3 of sentence to be the maximum discount

    OK, let’s flip that.
    
    Rats invaded your house, getting into all your food stores so that you don’t have enough food to eat. You’re in an apartment building, and the rats, that are nesting in your house, spread throughout the complex.
    
    A decision is taken by the body corporate to eliminate the rats. You know the rats live among you, and that they are nesting and breeding in your apartment, and some of those rats have become pets, so when the exterminators come to your apartment, and you have to move out for a few days, you take some of those pet rats with you and protect them.
    
    The body corporate can still see that there are rats in the building so have to call in the exterminators again and again, and each time you protect some rats so that they can continue to breed.
    
    Ultimately, you become responsible for what’s happening, and the ever increasing actions required by the exterminators result in you and your family falling sick.
    
    At which time you blame everyone else for your illness.
    
    At no time do you admit that your protection of the rats contributed to the problem.
    
    I wouldn’t have sympathy for you either.

      While I’ll continue to use the “rat” analogy only insofar as it’s a matter of metaphorical continuity, this sounds an awful lot like the emigration of Jews from Europe and America to Palestine and the subsequent establishment of the State of Israel.
      
      You’ve got two distinct groups fighting over occupation of the one building, during the course of which some of one group fall victim to the other’s efforts to bring the other under control.
      
      So what are the respective parts being played on the struggle: who’s the interloper and who’s trying to restore normality here?
      
      That’s really the fundamental dispute at the heart of the last 100 years in Palestine.

      Go over my comments and you will find no instance of “hatred” only criticisms in the form of sound arguments backed by facts and rational inference. You will no doubt “hate” much of what I say, but that’s you being the hater, not me.
      
      It must be easy to live in a world where legitimate criticism can just be written off as hate. It means you never have to think or to reflect on your actions, and you can just blame everyone else all the time.
      
      That’s an example of real privilege, and it’s a self-assigned privilege that no true victim would ever be able to give themselves, so it gives the lie to the “history’s greatest victims” narrative.

  I don’t know what the equivalency is here: protesting someone opposing transgenderism and protesting someone who represents a government guaranteeing the Israelis’ ethnic cleansing of Gaza aren’t at all similar, other than they are both protests.
  
  The former is deranged, the latter is what anyone with a conscience would support.
  
  It just goes to show that the left aren’t wrong about everything, even if they are sometimes right for the wrong reasons (or the less-right reasons).
  
  Your argument seems to be based on the false implicit premise that “if the left are opposed to it, they are wrong to do so,” which is of course a statement about the left, not about the thing they are opposing.

      You mean like the Jews kowtow supports do? From Charles Lindberg, to David Irving, to David Duke and on and on, Jews have a long pedigree of punishing or silencing those who say things they don’t like, as opposed to simply arguing the point with them.       I’ve argued before both that Jews invented “cancel culture” to prevent criticism and stop people speaking against their interests (some of whom I cite above), and even, for that matter and relevant here, the Jewish “sexologist” Magnus Hirschfeld invented transgenderism.

  I saw that, and for some reason my mind immediately leapt to “Barbie: The Movie”.
  
  I imagine both would be similar intellectual, hard-hitting heavyweights, and would appeal to the same audiences.
  
  I also read that commission bosses are confident it will be a success “amid questions over its commercial potential.” And that some senior production industry sources wonder whether the project is not better suited for the small screen, rather than as a feature film with the associated higher production costs – and commercial risks.

        These productions are funded by either budget 2023, the lotto funding, the income from the projects they have funded, and from their investments.
        
        It’s also independent of the government, making their own decisions. Let’s not get to a place where the government of the day decides on what productions get funded.         Interestingly, to me at least, the Chair of the film commission is also the chair of TVNZ and was a guest at Jacinda’s wedding. If we had a functioning fourth estate that linkage would be looked at. Sean Plunkett has highlighted the Wedding guest link and Chair of TVNZ, hopefully he will now pick this extra connection up.
        
        It would also be interesting to see when he was appointed to these roles. New Zealand is a small place and it’s hard to always keep a separation but……

NZ Film Commission has decided to fund a film on the Princess. That really grates! Why throw any taxpayers money into a documentary about the worst prime minister ever in NZ that has left the country in tatters financially and socially. Almost certain the director of the doco will spin it in positive light for the Princess’s next role at the UN. If there is so called lots of international interest, let these interests fund it. It shouldn’t need a single cent from NZFC. The NZFC Board, CEO and employees who recommended this should be hauled over coal in front of a national inquiry! Someone should make a film about the real truth behind the last government!

Talking of te media , the front page of the Herald has a story about $800,000 of our scarce money going towards making a documentary movie about Ardern .

What a waste of money.

Meanwhile buried inside ( among the attacks against Luxon and Co ) is a story about what is essentially the collapse of the school dental service and 3 year waiting lists in Napier and environs.
( Ironically te
media seem to have picked the story up from Facebook , not good old journalism , but keyboarding on the very medium they love to hate)
The excuse is “staff shortages” …….or is it really there’s not enough staff to deal with the huge backlog created by Ardern’s Branch Covidian lockdowns .

There’s a column on BB&H this morning by a farmer who demonstrates that her and husband’s farm is CO2 efficient and that NZ farm animals are insignificant with respect to anthropogenic climate change (in itself still a theory at this stage BTW). The Left of course is blinded by ideology so, like Stuff, believes that the science is settled and cows will drown Tuvalu. Sensible people will take steps to understand mitigation. If CO2 and methane are the problem then there’s nothing we can do but adapt. Shooting ourselves in both feet while China burns a million tons of coal is pretty daft. A bit of real evidence re CO2 would be handy of course but Gaia says no to that. Funny how belief in Hamas prejudice re homosexuals and belief in the evil of sheep go hand in hand. Actually more weird than funny.

So a few folk are popping heads above the parapet to criticise the just announced health targets. Hmmm, where were they in the 6 years since health targets were dumped, with actual outcomes getting worse.

One of them was even Ms Verrall Minister of Health, who has among other negatives says the targets are ‘half baked’. Helen Petousis -Harris – of course she says lots more money needed to meet the targets, no mention of efficiencies and removing waste from the system. Auckland Uni’s Mark Elwood – what about all the delays before a diagnosis.

You’d think having targets and reporting against them is a bad thing, listening to them.

  By taking minority and activist positions they stopped serving the mass market and lost viewers. Lost viewers = lost advertising = lost revenue = lost jobs.
  
  There would still have been some shift away from MSM due to the innovative and alternative access to news online. But when most KBers say they no longer watch the MSM it shows they lost the demographic most important to them ie the consumers most likely to be engaging with their product.
  
  I rang The Herald and cancelled my sub after the Posie Parker MSM induced mob fury frenzy. Four articles on the Saturday of that event, all anti anti-trans activists… Not one printed the alternative view of a woman’s and children’s rights activist and her four common statements. The MSM are responsible for the violence that ensued and we are just fortunate that there were not people killed. This was the final straw for me and they lost my funding. Something they don’t seem too worried about since they have made no effort to get me back. But lose enough customers and The Herald won’t be financially viable either.
  
  There is a common theme with these activist politicians and journalists. When things go belly-up there is no inwards reflection about how they have contributed to their own demise. No, just looking at external factors to blame. For Jacinda her popularity was due to her amazing leadership but her unpopularity was because the masses hate women. For the news media their demise is purely a result of the rise of the internet. As inaccurate as them reporting last week that inflation was due to supply and demand issues caused by covid. No mention of Grant Robertsons Quantitative Easing increasing money supply while failing to be accountable for spending and spending on unproductive things.
  
  When the news media is distorting the truth to portray the left side of parliament in favourable terms they are not bringing truth to power but lies and propaganda to their audience. So no surprises when this results in a disgusted audience finding other ways to source information.

    Yeah so this is how I think it happened:
    
    For the last 3 years he received the out of town accommodation allowance, just like 100 of the other 120 out of town mp’s did.
    
    When he became prime Minister, that allowance was bumped, but it would have been a continuation of the same scheme he’d been using since he entered parliament. So I doubt he filled in any form this year “claiming” it.
    
    To avoid the “paying himself” charge, all he would have to do is rent someone else’s apartment, and have them rent his. Then he’s not paying himself, but does it really change anything?
    
    If and when he occupies Premier House, and he rents his apartment to, I dunno, Mark Mitchell, what’s the beat up going to be then?

So some kind of mania swept Ardern to power and hatred drove her out – according to the taxpayer-funded film hagiographers.
I never bougnt the hype. I didn’t think she would make a good PM but she could speak well and might grow into the job. We footed the enormous bill for PR advice for her to get us through Covid and the mosque tragedy and she did the figurehead and emotive thing well enough to satisfy most people.
But her absurd promises (end child poverty, 100,000 new houses, 1 billion trees), her inability to get things done, her catastrophic economic management, her blind loyalty to incompetents because they were friends, her fudging of the truth, vast areas of ignorance and empty platitudes quickly made her into a joke in this household. And a sick joke at that as we contemplate the wastage of her six years, the debt we are burdened with, the huge problems we are faced with and the heartbreaking knowledge that all those squandered billions could have solved every one of them.

    You appear to have forgotten the specific elements of Otto’s claim even though he has repeated it many many times.
    
    The key points to Otto’s claim are;
    Trump’s request was weeks before Jan 6.
    There were 2 requests, one for 20 or 22 thousand followed by a request for 10,000 when the 1st request was refused.
    Pelosi refused so the troops were not deployed.

    You’ll have to be more specific in how the Federalist article supports Otto’s claims.
    
    The only commonality between the article and Otto’s claims are 10,000 troops but that is not a new number.
    
    Even former acting Secretary of Defense Chris Miller testified to the Jan 6 committee that Trump had, in a January 5 phone call, briefly and informally floated the idea of having 10,000 troops present on January 6 but did not issue any directive to that effect. Miller said, “I interpreted it as a bit of presidential banter or President Trump banter that you all are familiar with, and in no way, shape, or form did I interpret that as an order or direction.”
    
    The specific quote in the article refers to an overheard conversation between Chief of Staff Meadows and Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser
    
    Meadows “wanted to know if she need any more guardsmen,” Ornato testified. “And I remember the number 10,000 coming up of, you know, ‘The president wants to make sure that you have enough.’ You know, ‘He is willing to ask for 10,000.’
    
    So, not an actual request for 10,000 troops and nothing about Pelosi.
    
    The article goes on to talk about the slow response on the day of Jan 6 but all that is outside of Otto’s claim as well.

  Nothing new there. My uncle was liberated from a Japanese POW camp toward the end of WW2. Shortly after liberation he was struck and seriously injured by a case of Hershey bars parachuted by the USAF as part of a supply drop. Fortunately he recovered from the physical trauma and lived a happy life till he popped his clogs late last century.

This is what happens today. You reward bad behaviour and ask people to not doing something again

Time to teach them a lesson. Pull the whole team from next weeks game and fine them.

Hurricanes Poua double down on controversial haka, claim tense win

The Hurricanes Poua have doubled down on their controversial haka, sending yet more strong words towards the government before claiming a tense Super Rugby Aupiki win on Saturday.

For all the fallout of last week’s season-opener against the Chiefs in Hamilton, where the Poua performed a haka that contained the words “karetao o te Kāwana kakiwhero” which translates in English to “puppets of this redneck government”, the team stepped it up further against Matatū at Sky Stadium.

In delivering their Poua Ki Runga haka, they used a phrase, translated to English, which said: “New Zealand rise up! Here is Hurutearangi… governments are temporary, the Treaty will endure. Poua will endure.”

    That they would risk their club losing sponsors or gate sales and threaten the club’s viability by using their positions to advance their personal and political viewpoints is very poor behaviour in my view.
    
    The arrogance is breathtaking.
    
    These women are perfectly entitled to make their positions known in their private capacity and good on them, but not while representing their club. No-one is oppressing anyone by insisting on adherence to basic codes of conduct when involved in a club’s activities. Clubs that the women have freely and voluntarily joined.
    
    It says a lot about people who are unable or unwilling to see the distinction.

If these women want to play rugby, good luck to them – play rugby.
If they want to be conceited political activists they should turn their attention to joining a political party and getting elected.
There is plenty of talking to be done at Parliament -along with all the others there with an entrenched personal opinion.
