  I have proof. It’s contained in a bunch of my articles rejected between 2021 and 2023 by Big Media which constituted some of my best work – like “The Unravelling of NZ’s Economic Strategy”, “Jacindanomics Does not Exist” and “How our Kingdom of Kindness Lost its Way”. At the same time, a vast collection of writing & preaching by other academics across NZ – the Chosen Ones in cahoots with Ardern and Hipkins – was widely disseminated by that same Big Media. Not even my mild critiques of Ardern and Hipkins were permitted, whereas critiques by others describing politicians like Seymour and Luxon as “bull-shitting”, “lying” pricks was splashed across the front pages. Whenever I used a word 1% as strong to describe Ardern or Hipkins, it was edited out by Big Media.

    NZ has experienced its most incompetent, amateur and divisive Govt in history. The majority of voters turfed them out.
    
    But you wouldn’t think so from the MSM as they disparage the new Govt day after day, and make zero reference to Labour’s incompetence and policy failures that have triggered NZ’s cost of living crises, high interest rates, high rentals and housing costs, job losses etc etc …. the very things that the coalition govt are having to address (despite aspects of it being unpopular).
    
    And speaking of job losses, they are now impacting the MSM themselves.
    
    Meanwhile they continue their attacks on Luxon (as well as Seymour and Peters) and most of it seems to be based on “envy”.
    
    (Even HDPA is getting extremely tiresome by continually attacking the “man” (Luxon) and not the “ball” (policies). How I wish the original MagicTalk was still around so the listeners have choice as to who to listen to)!
    
    All despite the coalition Govt doing their best to rectify the economic (and societal) damage caused by Labour.
    
    All Labour does now is smear the govt and the MSM gleefully repeats the smears. Where is Labour’s vision for a better NZ?

      The online thing is okay all we need is audio, not video. Calling in on the radio waves and being able to listen to radio while driving is what is missing. Having the radio on while doing other things is better too.
      
      Apart from Hosking, ZB is full of twats. Lush is one, Travis is another. I never listen to the afternoon twats. Jamie McKay is full of himself. Thinks he’s so smart.

  A recent survey in USA found that the average cable network viewers (CNN, Fox, MSNBC etc) are in their late 60s. Hence all the ads for heart medication and incontinence supplies.
  
  The Brave New World is based on demand viewing where people want to watch just a few seconds on the segments they are interested in and get bored after 7 seconds. This is the ideal space for Youtube, Tiktok and Twitter news to thrive.
  
  Broadcast news is all but dead. Who is going to sit down and watch an hour of one channel’s news? Even those who think it is a Good Thing generally don’t view it.
  
  Nobody seems to have this mythical “time” commodity any more, but they still find a thousand ways to waste it (and get “bored” if they find themselves with more than 30 seconds minutes to fill).

    Reveal, if anyone can, the last Published Cartoonist in one of the four Pamphlets listed above as a Newspaper, that is not aimed at Luxon Peters or Seymour negatively, then perhaps link to one that is derisive of That Woman.

Herald today – The pitfalls of fewer Kiwis owning homes and more renting – The realities of life in the rental market.

The renters interviewed mostly seemed to have children. Whatever happened to DINKYs – double income no kids yet – saving like mad for 4 or 5 years, starting with a studio or little do up in the burbs to build equity and then trade up later.

Also the number of rental bonds is an indicator but somewhat misleading as will include bonds paid by tenants of trust owned rentals. There are hundreds of thousands of trusts in New Zealand and plenty hold properties rented to trust beneficiaries. These are better treated as home ownership (Briggs adjustment). Same if rented to family members.

  Cant. Unchecked immigration, near zero interest rates, GST on new housing, greedy useless “Cathedral Cove” local councils, high cost of living and insane levels of income tax.

  I have it on pretty good authority that the ‘dinky’ types of the past as we see them now in the present do not want to live in do ups, they want to live in newly built low maintenance dwellings. So to that end they will avoid anything that they can retore for a capital gain maybe because they do not now how to renovate….

    I am selling my parents (now deceased) house. The real-estate agent is mainly dealing with first home buyers. However most are not interested because the house needs painting and other maintenance. They say ‘I cant do the work, I don’t know how to paint’.
    
    What they cant get through their heads are that if the house was painted and the maintenance done the price would be a lot higher.

  Nor do they believe in starting on the bottom rung and building up, maybe doing up an old house working on it every night + week ends.
  
  I will say that higher house prices increase the barrier to entry but yes, two adults focused on saving should generally be able to secure a mortgage deposit within 5 years.

    As far as I can see watching many young people I know, they come with an instant gratification background. They live together for so long the female wants a baby. They have said baby but female still wants big fancy wedding and that becomes their saving priority. Housing seems to be last on their list and then, wah, wah, wah…we can’t afford a home. They need to get their priorities right. I have no sympathy for them.

    Disagree with this “avocado on toast” explanation. It doesn’t stand up to logical scrutiny. If all of the avocado eaters saved their money for housing, this would create more demand and house prices would be even higher. You can’t win.
    
    The problems are economic and socialist in nature. On the supply side, artificially restricting development thru restrictions on property rights (RMA, council zoning etc). Artificially increasing wages and restricting the materials available to be used. On the demand side, they artificially reduce the cost of debt (interest rates still too low) and borrow like drunken sailors, driving up inflation (house prices and living costs). On top of all of that, the average worker is expected to pay close to 50% of their wages in tax. All of this has the outcome of making housing unaffordable for many people. The sad part is that it appears to be all by design.

    When I was in my 20’s a house cost about 3 years income. It was possible to get into a house on one (not all that flash) income although things would be a bit average for a while. Capitalisation of the family benefit was often a game changer.
    
    Houses now cost 8-10 years income. The can has been kicked down the road by reducing deposit requirements plus we had interest rates go through the floor for a while. Government-subsidised Kiwisaver pension savings can be ratted for a first home deposit.
    
    Eventually you get to a point where these measures run out of puff. The people who head offshore with GoPros and drones do so because they don’t have an account at the bank of Mum & Dad and think it is pointless trying to save for a house. There are workarounds like moving to Westport (where houses are cheap) and working a Christchurch job from there, but it’s not a solution that is available to a lot of people.
    
    I dunno where this urban myth about FHBs wanting new builds comes from. Naturally noone will have any meaningful figures to support (or disprove) it.

Am a bit confused about this.
I have attended the odd concert over the years and have always sat in a seat.
In fact, if you stood up, people behind complained and a bossy usher would come over and tell you off for blocking the view.
I guess you can pack more people in though if you require them to stand and Madonna and Co definitely need the extra money ….eh.

    In the past, access to foreign news ‘on the wire’ was scarce and the news organisations owned the local eyeballs.
    
    That meant repeating foreign articles was vaguely useful.
    
    Now things are pretty much the other way around: access to foreign news is easy and they no longer own the eyeballs.
    
    Now repeating foreign articles is no value at all.
    
    In fact, the same applies for many things that TV and broadcast do. Foreign sitcoms and reruns? There’s zero value on putting those on TV when people can access them on Youtube and binge watch them.

Now why would the poles be so keen to send troops to Ukraine?
Well the Europeans have l…o…n…g memories – as we saw in the Balkan war several decades ago
where claims of atrocities some 700 years ago were raised. (Its why the EU will never become the Unites States of Europe.)
Well in the 16th century Parts of Ukraine were part of Poland – and the Poles would like to get that area back – not that they would openly say so.

Over the centuries Poland has often occupied parts of Ukraine – the latest being around 1920.

Now I suspect that the Polish can see the end of the Ukraine as we currently know it soon coming to an end – and it would be very convenient if there were Polish troops ‘keeping order’ in western Ukraine when Ukrainian authority comes
to a disastrous end.
It is probable that a few Lithuanian troops would also be interested in being there along with a few Belorussian military – as they – along with several others – would be keen to pick up the pieces…….

In a rare bit of unbiased reporting Newshub says that the Pope has recommended that Ukraine “have the courage to put out the white flag” – which I think means ‘Look, those in Eastern Ukraine are Russians – they speak Russian and they are ethnic Russians and they dont want to be part of Ukraine
and Zylenskyy banned the use of the Russian language – so grow some balls and recognise reality and stop the damage to other Ukrainian people’.
Newshub also reported that Turkey has said they are willing to hold talks between Ukraine and Russia – I guess being close to the action Turkey doesnt want things to escalate.

  I can not see how this ends well for anyone. Several European NATO countries now saying that they want to send boots on the ground to fight Russia. Zelensky and his cronies repeatedly say they will fight to the death. And Russia will not now pull out and release Crimea and eastern Ukraine.
  If NATO joins in, then that is WW3. A NATO conventional war, if the USA is included, attacking Russia would quickly become very destructive to both Russia and European cities. USA airpower would dominate and eventually overpower Russia.
  
  So then what would the Russian hardliners do? Sit and watch ‘The Motherland’ destroyed by The West?

    This is an entirely possible outcome.
    The chance of Russia being comprehensively defeated seems very unlikely indeed.
    They are now on a war footing, manufacturing arms 24/7.
    They have been attacked on this front before and did whatever it took to successfully repel those attacks. To them, the body count was virtually immaterial.

        Add The Mongols to that as well (1236AD). Back then Kiev was a Russian city and that was taken over along with a stack of other Russian cities. It took them about 250 years to send The Mongols back to Mongolia.

A mate of mine has a single beneficiary mum staying in his rental, a couple of years ago he let her know he was going to have raise the rent $50 a week or something.
She says, “why don’t you raise it $200 a week, MSD will just lift my accommodation supplement by that much.”
How many billions does the NZ taxpayer pay in accommodation supplements as a direct subsidy to banks?
Good policy by Act to lower rental costs through restoring interests costs as a tax deduction, a far less distortionary way to subsidise Australian bankers.

  I didn’t watch the interview, so I don’t know what Bishop actually said.
  
  But what he should have said is that “beneficiaries who keep trashing their taxpayer funded accommodation only do so because they were taught by the previous government that they will not be put out of the accommodation, no matter how badly and anti-socially they behaved.”

And recall that the previous government was planning to legislate such a requirement. I wonder, will the Nats eventually support this idea? It’s an insidious idea, because the next step will be to fine companies that don’t contrive to eliminate so-called gender pay gaps. Note that the TEC has threatened to fine universities unless they magic away ethnic disparities in pass rates.

Maggy, I note your Te Ara articles on mushrooms, among other things. Can you please settle a discussion I’m having – are the common garden edible field mushrooms we have here in NZ native to here? I’m referring solely to the white mushrooms that generally we pick from open paddocks – in my case exclusively sheep and beef paddocks.

They’re not introduced are they?

  Traffic is self-regulating to a large extent.
  When there is lots of traffic people naturally slow down, often well below the posted limit. When there is little traffic people will get along at a sensible rate of knots.
  Of course there needs to be limits, but what the idjuts have done now is say that no matter how clear the roads are, and no matter the conditions, the maximum speed allowed is ridiculously slow.
  Oh, while I’m at it, who was it decided it was a good idea to plonk (raised) pedestrian crossings just after the exit of roundabouts? I can’t count the number of times I’ve seen close calls due to pedestrians suddenly blocking the exit of a roundabout. I have seen an old lady get knocked to the ground on one of the crossings too – blood everywhere.

  As such, it should be ok for anyone to use it… that means speak it, hear it, read it, understand it, etc….

The inevitable conclusion of the so called film is that aren’t we lucky to have had Ardern under her leadership sacrificing herself for a better NZ.   I think it’s obvious enough (that solar and wind aren’t the answer to the non-problem of CO2) that even politicians can understand it. Yet they still push it as though it is, which makes a thinking person wonder about their real motivations. Bowen in Aus is a prime example – he is prepared to sacrifice vast swathes of agricultural land, destroy wildlife and scenery, pollute the countryside with these environmental eyesores, pooh pooh nuclear, impose massive debt on future generations, ruin the existing grid, and none of it will make a blind bit of difference to the climate.
  He must know this, so why is he doing it?

  There are some negatives to large houses.
  
  For five years we leased a 487 square metre house on Burgundy Park Avenue in Henderson. The one where the opening season of “Outrageous Fortune” was filmed.
  
  It was a huge amount of work to keep it clean.
  We ended up buying a robot vacuum cleaner to clean the carpets.
  
  Had some great pool parties there though!

I am a proud New Zealander when it comes to our sports teams but you have to admit, that Australian cricket team is superb.
They won both tests, the first with a day and 2 sessions to spare and the second one with a day and one session to go.
Cricket is Australia’s national sport and they have a large pool of excellent players from which to pick.
In a different league to New Zealand, although we do have a couple of rising stars in Phillips and Sears.
It will be interesting to see what happens to the team selection in the aftermath of this series.

  No surprises when we have a bowling attack consisting of Southee (way past best), Kuggeleign (how the hell was he there in the first place), Phillips (a part time spinner) and Henry and Sears (both deserving to be there). Oh and a coach who admitted that they got selection wrong in two of the last three home tests ! .

I see Seymour had an accident and crashed his bike over the weekend. While some passers-by helped him up, one person stood there, not helping but filming him while jeering insults.

There really are some incredible arseholes in this world. If I saw a politician I really dislike – say, Chloe Swarbrick – crash her bike, my first instinct would be to help her, as would most Kiwis, I’m sure.

    Talking of Facebook, I saw a reasonably positive post made by a farmer about how they were trying hard to run an eco-friendly, low emissions farm. Again, the comments were just vile. Apparently the farmer was a dirty liar and a hypocrite, it was just greenwashing, farmers are inherently selfish elitists who hate the environment, etc etc.
    
    Facebook is a cesspit.

  Yeah I’m not sure most kiwis would. At least not some of the younger ones. Just thinking of the countless videos of fights where kids are filming and encouraging the fight and attacking the victim. Or even the comments posted on James Facebook when he was assaulted. Or the abuse thrown at politicians on both sides of the fence, including death threats

This article shows perfectly how useless media are in NZ. Why is everything now described as an “incident”. When someone drowns it’s a water incident, now when there’s turbulence, it’s an incident on a plane. When I saw the heading I initially thought there was a fight on board, why can’t journalists do some reporting and say in plain English what actually happened.

  The airline actually called it an incident, so if you want to have a whinge ring up the airline and complain to them. The other thing was, and I have been watching the story since it broke, it has been a developing story that journalists have been adding to as they learn more information

        Plane went into a nose dive for 300 ft. They’ve said there was no turbulence. One passenger said after the plane landed the pilot looked in shock. Appears to be another Boeing problem perhaps.
        
        A comment from one of the passengers which is concerning
        
        “I used to be a flight attendant and this is the first time I’ve ever . . . the whole plane just froze,” she said.

        According to Stuff, one of the pilots told a passenger there was a control issue and his instruments went blank.
        
        Sounds strange, no doubt we will learn the full story in a few months after the CAA investigate.
