So in the excitement of shooting down “3 Waters” – I am thinking “Did they take out the Māori Advisory Group to the Water Services Regulator (Taumata Arowai) – or only Labour’s Water Services Act?
– when the last shot should be the King-pin that Rules Them All: the Māori Advisory Group, which is/was not “co-governance”, but the Exceptionalist Supreme Advisor “total governance” –

  Obviously, Ngarewa-Packer is an ignorant recidivist. To claim that “spitting was part of the haka”, she fatuously ignores the fact that, if it was, (and I’ve never before heard such tripe) then surely, at least 100 year-old knowledge that spitting is a filthy habit that spreads disease should take precedence over her absurd attempt to justify that anti-Seymour behaviour by a few very-poorly-bred, appallingly-behaved school children.
  
  Maori needs leaders who offer a far better example to their race than does Ngarewa-Packer.

  Maori before settlers arrived were a stone-age society and along with it stone-age tikanga such as exceptionally brutal treatment of captives from other tribes and inequitous treatment of women within their own tribe. They were brought most rapidly into 19th century “modern” civilisation and mostly even the Maori themselves accepted some of their old tikanga was no longer appropriate which you would think was projectiles from any bodily orifice at public figures.

      I heard the exchange, and Banksie didn’t actually call them a Stone Age culture. A caller referred to Maori as Stone Age. Banksie just continued the conversation and for committing the crime of not hitting the stop button was cancelled. It was at the time of The Purge when Leah Panapa, Plunkett and Miles Davis were all summarily dismissed. Go woke, go broke as they say.

  I’m supposed to be getting an angiogram, but I’m not even sure I’m on any list yet.
  
  NB: I am white, haven’t actually had a heart attack yet, and minor chest pains while exercising don’t seem to be enough to cause interest from CCDHB

    I had a cardiac arrest 5 years ago: thanks to neighbours, Wellington Free Ambulance, local Fire Brigade and finally Westpac Helicopter I survived.
    The Wellington Hospital cardio staff were fantastic, I have an annual pacemaker check, my local doctor is aware of all details.
    What more could I want ?

Its not at the point yet. But people will start to question why they are paying such huge taxes. Why pay so much tax into a system that hates them?

The system of course is much bigger than National who do what they can of course. But suspect its beyond them.

  By my calculation, right now we have our highest-ever personal tax rates. Bracket creep (silent tax increases) has now endured since 2012. GST at 15%.
  
  I am hoping this is the peak – but have no confidence that is the case. We still have a govt deficit and massive record debt.
  
  I am sure this ‘centre-right’ govt will rein things in somewhat. But it sounds like a tweak at best.

  They desperately need to adjust those tax brackets. 30% PAYE on earnings over $48k is ridiculous. Min wage from April is $23.15 x 40 hour week x 52 weeks equals $48,152 and in to the 30% bracket!

So the PM has a problem with understanding the very viable points raised by Winston Peters.
Perhaps it will come back when Winston and party have a problem with important legislation forwarded by Luxon.
After all 11 votes removed would give a warning and the same 11 votes would shut down National until the IQ rose to a level from where Parliament could continue.

  It was reported a day earlier that when Luxon and Peters discussed the NZF state of the nation speech that Peters asked Luxon whether he had heard his full speech, to which Luxon replied no, only what the MSM covered.
  
  So that is why Peters told the MSM yesterday that they had misinformed Luxon. So instead of the accepting the situation the MSM doubled down for example Newshub reported last night that “Luxon laughed off Peters response”. I say that’s BS misinformation – more like Luxon was actually laughing off Newshub’s attempt at “gotcha” politics and wasn’t going to give their stupid line of questioning any oxygen.
  
  So I doubt there is any issue at all between Peters and Luxon despite what the MSM say.
  
  Also Newshub last night further misinformed their viewers when they reported on Luxon saying that Party leaders needed to “grow up”. They then cut away saying “Peters shows no sign of listening”.
  
  Again that’s BS reporting, the full Luxon statement (because radio news covered it earlier in the day) was that Luxon said that Party leaders needed to “grow up” particularly Labour and the Maori Party!
  
  Which aligns with Peter’s saying the same thing the day before!
  
  See how the MSM is deliberately misinforming and attempting yet again to drive wedges into the Coalition by trying to make out that there are problems between National and NZF? When there aren’t!
  
  No wonder why public polling shows declining trust in the MSM!

What is the claim and is it true?

“Māori genetic makeup is stronger than others”

Anyone with a rudimentary knowledge of western science would appreciate the research on the evolutionary impact on island life on the Polynesian population genetics.

Larger bones and more muscle. Which gives them a competitive advantage in sport – the Maori Party leader was noting that some Maori did not get the same opportunity in sport as others because of economic deprivation and thus some investment here would have a good pay off for both them and our wider society.

Calling this racist and then linking it to Nazi Germany is the thinking of a man past his intellectual prime.

And why are so many Pakeha playing dumb, as if they know nothing about school sport as per larger Maori and Polynesian kids of their age group.

What has happened to western civilisation?

  Racism (and sexism) only become a problem when ideas and words are translated into actions. I think we have gone too far down the track of attacking people for expressing their thoughts, even if those thought are pretty silly. Though it is quite plausible that races spending thousands of years in different environments would evolve differently to some extent. Nazi comparisons are over the top.

  Perhaps Maori science would measure this differently but we can put that claim to the test:
  
  If Maori genetics are stronger, then maybe some of these would happen:
  * Maori would live longer than mere whites and Asians.
  * Maori would have higher intelligence than others and be over represented in mathematics, engineering, etc.
  * There would need to be affirmative action to promote whites and Asians and prevent Maori from dominating business, university achievement etc.
  
  Hmmm…
  
  The only areas Maori do seem to dominate are:
  * Sports (pointless)
  * Crime
  * Cushy jobs
  * Higher fertility rates (2.5 vs 1.8).
  
  Ultimately, biologically speaking, the last is what matters when it comes to determining long-term genetic make up.
  
  While the rest of us are not replacing ourselves (minimum 2.1 fertility required), Maori are and are breeding younger on average too. Thus, over time Maori genetics will be dominant if these trends continue.
  
  So yes, Maori genes are “stronger” in that regard.

    I thought when Waititi said what he said it was in relation to sports or athletics in which case he is quite possibly right. There are races that are athletically stronger or faster than others and it will come down to DNA I suspect. DNA accounts for 25% of life expectancy according to a paper I read recently. I could be wrong in what Waititi said. Can’t say I like his politics mind. But just as Peters is often misquoted by biased MSM this might be one instance when Waititi has been misquoted by Peters. Mind you, using the word “superior” even if referring exclusively to sports or athletics is not the best choice of words.

      Some of that depends on how you define “race”.
      
      Some might, for instance, lump all black people together as a single black race. That would be unhelpful.
      
      If you are going to split people up by genetic strain then “race” is more subtle. For instance an East African is very different from a West African in many ways – including athletically.
      
      East Africa produces taller people who are better long distance runners. Pretty much all the top distance athletes come from Kenya etc.
      
      West Africa produces sprinters.
      
      Sure, Maori might be better at running around on a field carrying a ball. Pity they can’t find something a bit more useful to be good at.

      The only thing they have invented was the racist ramraid on the young lass’ home in Huntly.

    If maori are genetically generally say 80 or 90 percent other races then a higher reproductive rate seems detrimental to their maori percentage.
    What I mean is that it would be impossible to increase the percentage of maoriness, just produce more offspring with a diminished percentage.
    Then again, politically in New Zealand, they may as well be 100%

      No, if two people are 80% something else and 20% Maori and have a child, the child is still 80/20.
      
      But as you say, politically they are 100% Maori, therefore looking at it that way Maori is a “superior” gene because a person with 80% non-Maori ancestry is immediately 100% Maori.
      
      On that basis, if society just randomly roots, then we’ll all be Maori in a few generations – even those of us with blond ahir and blue eyes.

      I think they were reporting, through gritted teeth that putting obstacles in the way of sensible private contracts has predictable consequences.
      
      They (like every lefty media) have an ideological bias when it comes to open market contracts. They just see it as the worst manifestation of rampant capitalism and therefore every landlord ever is a bad actor in the contract.
      
      Yet they continue to profess surprise that said actors pack up their tents and move on when their agency is removed. Make me enter a contract where I don’t get a say on the price? Forget about it. Make me enter in a contract where there is no provision to dissolve the agreement when the other party doesn’t perform? No businessman is going to agree to that. So, I’ll convert my rental to AirBnB or sell it.

    There’s a discernable pattern here: each time Israel invades someone else’s territory (Lebanon, Iraq & Syria (by proxy), and now Gaza), the rest of the world has to deal with the inevitable outflow of displaced residents.     Appear Police are still concerned that the young Muslims ethnically from the Lebanon, create more street violence, as they did some three years ago.
    Seems some of our School children Maori are of similar thinking, as we saw the other day, supported by the Maori Party.

I posted the below set of figures late yesterday, but I want to re-post it as maybe most missed it? I believe it is an important message – like so many other countries, NZ has an excess deaths problem, but nobody wants to talk about it or investigate its causes.

2020
Covid-19 emerged. We had 32,613 deaths (about average- no increase and no decrease in deaths). Lockdowns underway, closed borders, etc. No jabs

2021
Jabs started about July. Only a few isolated cases of Covid. Third lockdown late 2021. Deaths 34,932. So an increase of +7% over 2020 (not driven by Covid)

2022
Jabs continue with boosters. Peak Covid hits NZ as we return to normality with no lockdowns, open borders etc. Deaths 38,574 (+17%)

2023
Few (if any) Covid deaths. Jab boosters continue for some. Deaths 37,884 (+15%)

  I’ve always maintained that the number of deaths specifically attributable to COVID being the only measure of success was the wrong measure on its own. Because of the Jacinda govt measures taken there were a couple thousand extra deaths due to cancer, mental health deaths due to treatment not being available, countless patients my not being treated in hospitals and in pain for longer periods. The COVID measure for success was all wrong.

Watched the AM show this morning on 3. More and more I am happy to see newshub go.

First they had libtard Loyd Burr talking to an economist who was concerned that tax cuts might be inflationary. They both discussed how both RBNZ and govt needed to have complimentary policy to successfully fight inflation.

Where one might wonder was this discussion when Labour were spending like mad men as the RBNZ rapidly tightened interest rates? I agree the tax cuts are inflationary however you need to balance this with the govts other spending cuts AND the fact that tax brackets only get adjusted approximately every 10 years and only under a National government. Now might not be the right time but it is long overdue. The minimum wage is nearly into the old top tax rate (before Labour introduced a new top tax rate)

Then they had the (intentionally?) stupid political journalist Jenna Lynch talking about a Talbert Mills poll that was worrying for the government because Luxon and Hipkins had similar popularity ratings and the country was ‘on the wrong track’. Yes she said Mills was the Labour polling firm but validated their results by saying ‘they also do private work and this one was leaked’. As if anyone who follows politics doesn’t know that the Mills poll is ONLY ever leaked when it has something positive for Labour in it. I strongly suggest the Mills or Talbot directly email the results to the media when its good for Labour.

I for one find it very hard to believe that the vast majority of New Zealanders think we are on the wrong track. They thought that when Labour was in power. I guess the questions are quite meaningless when the govt has only been in power a few months.

She also discussed how with a Labour and Green coalition government both parties had quite separate bases and did not need to fight for voters whereas ACT and NZF were on the same ‘side’ of National and therefore were fighting for the same voters. Just stupid analysis. Yes there might be some overlap of NZF and ACT voters but in general I would think they were quite different camps. NZF was supposed to be left of National (i.e. in the centre) and Act was ‘far right’ (i.e. to the right of National). She might be right that both parties currently seem more to the right then National who under Luxon appear to be swooping in to claim the centre.

While everything said was true it was intentionally coloured to put the current government in a bad light. There was no effort to provide balance.

Your country is truly fucked. I did 4 trips through a toll road. I had an account, but for some reason Waka Kotahi declared it inactive without advising me. Because the account was inactive, no tolls were paid from it, so I got an infringement notice, which more than trebles the fee. I complained, and when I didn’t get a prompt response, I re-sent the complaint email. I was then informed that there was a 10 day wait for a response, and each time you contacted them, you would go to the back of the queue, and have to wait a further 10 days.
What a fucking joke. Sorry, New Zealand, but you are nothing more than a third world country with pretensions.

And even if it had, the NZTA would have had to notify me by email, which it did not (and yes, I know how to look for spam) Nor is there anything in the terms and conditions about declaring an account to be inactive after a certain period of it not being used. If I have not contravened the terms and conditions in any way, and they have arbitrarily and in breach of contract suspended/deactivated my account without advising me, is it your view that it is my fault for not checking whether they had done something they weren’t entitled to do and which I had no reason to believe they could do?         I’d suggest you read the terms of service on why an account can be suspended, has nothing to do with the money in the account. And no it’s not my job to read your rants or your constant whinges of how bad you think nz is, but the good news is you don’t have to come back to nz, since it is such a third world country to you.
        
        Accounts can be suspend for a number of reasons including not advising them of changes to bank, debt, credit card. Address, name, email and contact details, and even not advising that the car listed on your account is no longer in your possession
        
        But hey, easier to lack self responsibility and pretend that your account was magically suspended for no reason. But hey, we will all await your next post on why this country is third world.

    Why should an account be suspended or closed if it has funds in it? Having an account with funds in it is so you don’t have to go on line to pay every time you go through a toll gate. But your lifestyle or business may change so that for a period you no longer drive through any toll gates, then things change again and you have to drive that route only to discover the account is closed/inactive. It NZTA costs nothing to keep the account open, in fact they are technically making money (interest) on your money, and closing it means you potentially no longer have access to your own money. A lot of folk across many sectors will be watching the Uber contractor v permie appeal. If Uber loses, and there is no law change, there will be widespread consequences. Permie drivers will get their many rights. Provided they take on the contractual responsibilities that go with them. And actually get a job offer.

I heard the Prince of Slime, our past finance bloke Robbo, speak with Hosking this morning. The man leaves this country gasping for breath because of his wanton disregard for sensible spending and the texts to Hosking prove this. The man of course is ‘immensely proud’ of how he steered NZ through Covid but one could ask ‘at what cost?’ We can only hope that he and Alf will be happy residing in Dunedin and that he doesn’t further bankrupt that University in the process.

As I was struggling to sleep overnight, I tried the radio and Newstalkzb talkback is dreadful while RNZ is not bad particularly if you have Vicky McKay on ( which she wasn’t).

But then I made a note of how many RNZ programmes I used to listen to and don’t any more. It is quite a lengthy list – Morning Report, Nine to Noon, Midday bulletin, Afternoons with Jesse Mulligan, Checkpoint, Media Watch, Saturday Morning. Sunday morning with Jim Mora is usually fine.

I suppose RNZ chiefs wouldn’t worry about the loss of a previous listener like myself.

I wonder if Labour aligned WCC councillor Rebecca Matthews and Green aligned Mayor Tory Whanau have figured out that they are potentially in breach of the Treaty of Waitangi?

Yes, breaching Te Tiriti no less, if they allow the Kilbirnie mosque broadcast the call to pray on outside loudspeakers (5 times a day including dawn)!!

So sorry Rebecca and Tory but Islam (or any other religion for that matter) are pretty much interlopers when applying the lens of the ToW/Te Tiriti … or to be 100% sure then the so-called “Principles”.

So there you have it Rebecca Matthews, Tory Whanau and their leftie colleagues will be breaching the “foundation” of this nation! Shame on them … shame, shame, shame!!

But, instead of getting immediate help for the 17-day-old girl, her mother returned home to find Taine Davey holding her while he played PlayStation. He then went outside and started setting up a trampoline.

Yesterday the now 20-year-old was jailed on a charge of causing grievous bodily harm with reckless disregard.

Buckets of baloney as Labour’s former Finance Minister, Grant Robertson, delivered his farewell speech in Parliament.

MPs who queued to shake his hand should have wondered how fortunate Robertson is to step into a new job, head honcho at Otago University, with four or five times the pay of an ordinary MP.

Like a dying Salvation Army member, Robertson is being promoted to glory.

One or two points about his farewell speech:

– Did NZ really do best in the world in the Covid epidemic? According to the Worldometer statistics site NZ has suffered 1,152 Covid deaths per million of population. Taiwan has suffered 796 – and without closing its industry, businesses, schools in battling the disease.

– Robertson praised Reserve Bank Governor Orr — and praised himself and Labour for changes at the central bank. These included a big increase in staff’; expanded structure, with a grand committee; and an impossible mandate from Robertson to maintain employment as well as fight inflation.

– Robertson praised Labour’s Covid shutdown. This was at vast, continuing cost to the country, including present inflation and the economic pain in bringing it down. Robertson and Orr blew out the money supply by tens of billions of dollars by having the State both issue and buy bonds. That’s where our inflation comes from.

– Robertson spoke of the need for tax reform. However, he conflated wealth and capital gains taxes, though they are different horses. Many of us even on the right agree that the country should have stronger capital gains tax. However, it was Jacinda Ardern, who dismissed capital-gains-tax change. She did this with a sudden remark, that sounded like a whim. Like her sudden announcement against oil and gas exploration.

Poor Otago University, the country’s oldest. Racist by preferential entry to some courses, and by having a Maori committee vet all research proposals. A university where student boozing and behaviour seems to have slipped until northern parents must wonder whether it’s safe to send their teenagers to Dunedin to study.

And the university has appointed as fix-it man, politician Grant Robertson.

I am paraphrasing.

    That’s pretty much the standard approach to dealing with inflation. Go back to the 80’s when Muldoonism had got inflation up into the middle teens. Brash came in a RB governor and immediately cranked interest rates up so that mortgages (for a brief period) went to numbers around 20%. Didn’t last long, inflation fell, rates were dropped down again – job done. It worked just like he said it would.
    
    If the aim is for RB to crank inflation down by reducing spending power, then tax cuts to preserve spending power (gummint) seem a bit counter-intuitive ….
    
    Maybe you have an alternative solution?

Another white-tailed spider bite that might not have been a white-tailed spider.
At least the item does identify the real problem if you read past the startling details.

Been completing COVID Enquiry submissions. I want to contribute. They require some answers to demographic questions. Interestingly enough they ask “What gender do you identify as”, but the ethnicity question is “What ethnicity are you” rather than “What ethnicity do you identify as”. They need to get with the times. Regardless I identified as Gender Diverse and Maori today when completing their form.

  Actually, now that I think about it, it’s not unreasonable to be insulted or take great umbrage in being asked “What gender do you identify as”. I am what I am and what I am needs no excuses as the song goes. Or in this case I am the sex that I am and what sex I am doesn’t need me to identify. Asking me to identify implies my sex is a less fundamental or less permanent or more fluid state when it comes to my sex. I’m proud to be the sex that I am and don’t ask me to identify.

    The problem with this is that too many people have champagne tastes but a beer budget.
    
    What would be better? Keep rising costs limited to inflation and not new expensive flash projects.
    
    Generally this does not mean making cuts, but rather means making less expansion.
    
    In other words, if they managed to make ends meet last year by taking $3000 of rates off me, then they should be able to do the same with $3000+ inflation this year.
    
    If then need $4000 this year then they’re expanding their spending by doing more stuff they consider “fun”. Keeping them to $3000+inflation is not making cuts.
    
    If, indeed, cuts do need to be made then it is obvious. Cut the frilly stuff. Keep focused on providing the basic services that councils are there for.
    
    Generally the frilly stuff is obvious to find – it has mostly been added in the last 5 to 10 years. How do we know that? Well if it was important then generally speaking it would have been done 20 years or more ago.

  its worse than that, 40% of them are current vacancies that they are not going to fill, so its more like a 5% reduction. Have to wonder if they started advertising a whole lot of rolls [roles] just so they could not fill them as part of their ‘cuts’

last election….. nearly $5 mill.

Equates to about $6.30 for every vote they got.

Former Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern hit out at the cynical use of the politics of fear in a speech overnight and made what appeared to be a veiled reference to NZ First leader Winston Peters and remarks he made in the 1990s.

Peters later served as Ardern’s Deputy Prime Minister, after he picked governing with Labour following coalition talks in 2017.

She spoke at the University of Bologna in Italy, where she was awarded the Sigillum Magnum, the university’s highest honour.

The Inspector General of Intelligence and Security has revealed this in an investigation out on Thursday.

Ardern’s government consistently over-promised in desperation to be elected and then just as consistently under-delivered – or didn’t deliver at all.

We all saw it.

We all know it.

They made promises that they bloody well knew they could never deliver on. The KiwiBuild promise, as one example of many, was just reckless. There was no analysis behind it, I’ve read that it was just dreamed up at an annual Labour conference, “100,000 sounds better than (the previous target of) 50,000” and written down on a table napkin. Next thing it became an election promise and New Zealanders believed them.

But, what this? Ardern now attempting to rewrite history – “ all I am guilty of is being too ambitious….”

  I’d agree that tweet was a bit shit when people are being laid off, which is what she’s called cruel. Laying people off is never nice. These are families whose incomes will now be reduced until they find a new job. But it’s necessary and must take place due to the state of the economy that the labour government left, and due to immense bloating caused by labour.
