  I can’t read the article. However I can guess at the content.
  
  Unless the Government repeals the Zero Carbon Act and withdraws from the Paris Accord nothing will change. Just like it does not matter at all who heads the Climate Change Commission. The Commission needs to implement the Act.
  
  I don’t think that Chris Luxon wants to address climate change polices in this term of government. He won’t be able to avoid it in a second term.

    Just watched the movie ‘Climate: the Movie – The Cold Facts”.
    Brilliant. It confirms what I, and many others have believed – in my case for 30 years since the Al Gore road show, which I thought was a load of bullshit. I will be getting all my family to watch it, including my 7 grandchildren – the youngest is 18 – to counter what they were indoctrinated with going through school.

  The cost will be a lot higher than that. Michael Kelly’s report just covered the electricity sector requirements but that was effectively mortgage repayments on $250k loan per family.
  And there will be uncosted lifestyle changes. No more overseas holidays. What is the value of that?

  Mike Kelly’s paper had it higher than that, probably about $1,000 pa. But that is just the financial cost of NZ going Net Zero. Most countries can not afford this tax (most Kiwis can’t either).
  
  So I propose the following in order to get the entire world to go Net Zero //
  1. Rich countries, including NZ pay a tax payer funded $5,000 per household annual tax to fund the poor countries.
  2. NZ also urgently needs about 150,000 skilled and semi skilled engineers and tradesmen to build our Net Zero energy and retrofit homes etc. We need to conscript citizens into these jobs urgently to meet our 2050 target. And we can’t bring immigrants in for this as other countries need those workers to construct their own Net Zero society.
  3. We need to make EV’s compulsory. NZ will need about 20% of the worlds cobalt to do that. So we need a free trade agreement with all West African countries where the cobalt comes from. (I’m uncertain what other countries are going to do once we’ve sowen up 20% of all cobalt?? We probably need an army???)
  
  That’s just a start. And because this will be very unpopular, no more elections until we hit Net Zero. We probably need a World Govt to force all other countries into this Net Zero plan as well.
  
  We have no choice in this – the Planet is Boiling! And we are all going to die…….

      It’s actually very dangerous bullshit. Once thriving western countries are starting to decay under this giant idiotic fraud. By the time the full blown crisis of wellbeing hits because of all this, there may not be enough money left in the kitty to recover. It seriously makes me consider packing up and going to spend the rest of my life in a fossil fuel rich BRICS country that doesn’t give a rats about the UN, the western loony left or the climate scam.

  Went something like this. The same governments that have failed to eliminate poverty, homelessness, crime etc, now argue that if you give them some more tax, they can fix the climate.

      No, our household will use electricity off the grid when required but help keep the grid from being overloaded.
      
      During the day when the sun is shining our solar array puts a fair amount of electricity back into the grid. That’s energy you can use.

        I’m an electrical engineer and know a lot about the electric grid.
        
        The solar array does not create much energy before 6:30 AM or after 6:30 PM but while the sun is shining we are not drawing down the lake levels so there will be more available energy for you when you need it.
        
        Our solar array paid for itself in 5-1/2 years and we will now profit financially for the next 15 years or so.

        If you want to play credentialism, I’m a power station engineer but that isn’t relevant here.
        Over the peak periods, the hydros on the three main river systems are basically going flat out. They have to have their small headlakes filled up by staged flows (the hydros upstream). The difference between what they and geothermal generate, and what the load is has to be made up by thermal stations.
        The short-term water storage fallacy is just for those who don’t understand the grid. If there is a lot of generation from the unreliables and the thermals are on min load, water has to be spilled.

        You are talking about “the grid being overloaded”, that happens (as CJames says) in early evening and early morning. Now you are talking about saving lake levels during the day?
        A good use of Solar is the proposed solar farm beside the Bankside substation. That GEP has a max demand in summer for irrigation. The solar farm can this be used for load shedding, especially important in times of co-incident demand – but you know all that…….

      Best and cheapest way to implement solar panels is without batteries and direct connect to bottom element of your hot water cylinder. That way you use your cylinder as a battery. Top element halfway up is connected to grid. You need a cylinder that has the second element halfway up rather than near the top so can only do if you’re a new build or replacing your cylinder. If you do it this way, payback is less than 24 months.

    Rooftop solar will make no difference to anthropogenic global warming. Without subsidies rooftop solar makes little economic sense for most residential properties.

We don’t want every business to have a maori name.

We don’t want businesses that mutter nonsensical jargon about carbon neutral and saving the planet. This is a huge reason for the productivity gap between here an oz.

How much is the rebrand costing? How will that improve the service? How much extra is it going to cost me?

I don’t have to deal with this company and I wont – simply replied and cancelled.

Will be interesting to see what their numbers look like in a few months.

  Changing a company name benefits the graphics and ad agencies, maybe the lawyers and no one else. It’s cosmetic change for cosmetic change’s sake. Many companies ‘rebrand’ products, ie create new artwork for packaging etc simply to make work for their marketing departments, no change in the product, just a new look. I’ve seen it happen countless times, new marketing manager = new artwork. Money down the drain.

A few days ago I posted some Stats NZ numbers on annual number of deaths in NZ. In summary, during 2022-23 (2 years) deaths were approx 8,000 higher than the 5 yr average 2016-2020.

Of those deaths, 2,330 were COVID deaths where COVID was deemed the primary cause of death. (Actually that’s our total COVID deaths up to the end of Mar 24, so slightly over counted).

So there are another 5,700 excess deaths caused by other things (cancer, heart attacks, etc).

As a comparison, during 5 yrs of WW2 NZ had 12,000 deaths in battle. So a similar annual death rate to our 2022-23 period.

In Q4 of 2023 our excess death rate was +16%. That’s +1,900 additional deaths in 3 months. The month of Dec it was +17%. So it seems that this problem is accelerating.

  Before everyone jumps to the conclusion that the vaxx is the sole reason for excess deaths there are other potential contributions. Chief among them will be deaths arising from untreated conditions during the lockdown, deaths arising from untreated conditions due to a backlog created in the lock down, deaths arising from untreated conditions due to a poorly performing health Sector (including lack of specialist clinicians), deaths arising from declining mental health. There will be other contributors.

    Excellent . the so called environmentalists have always been anti prosperity lefty loops . Now the disease has spread en mass to white priveliged middle class school pupils .
    
    But why single them out . ESG / DEI is now mainstream in the once private , capitalist sector , all seeking “free” tax payer transfers via their public sectors .
    
    Thus one answer to why Trump is so universally hated by the Luvvies , he’d end the gravy train.

  Just wrote to them, uncontroversially, and just presented some extracts and facts from IPCC reports, and also links to William Colenso’s diary from the ToW signing, Sir Apirana Ngata’s explanation of the ToW and a few other matters as reading their website they have been grossly misinformed and almost brainwashed – presumably by their teachers! which is borderline criminal.   I predict Spark will close down its Xtra email service in a few years just as Vodafone (as it then was) closed down Paradise, Clear, etc emails a few years ago. Introducing a monthly charge for Xtra for Spark customers was just the beginning. This will drive users away from Xtra to gmail, hotmail etc and when the Xtra customer base is diminished, Spark will kill the service off. So as well as imposing this charge, Spark will lose its customer focus with Xtra as running it is just a pain in the bum from their point of view.

It’s one thing to let in a hundred or more relatives of the mosques massacres about six years ago (and likely many more since).

It’s another thing to open NZ’s border to the Arabs of Gaza.

I found that out last year when I went there to support someone who was entirely the ‘wrong color’ and ‘wrong religion’ to get through the INZ filter.         OK, first rough impression of these two pieces (by Miles W Mathis?), the guy is a loon.
        Possibly “Cluster A” Schizotypal. The windows through which most ‘normal” people perceive reality are cracked and warped, but there are signs and clues in numbers, dates, times and names which have a deeper true meaning that only he can see.
        I’m not saying he’s a bad man, if I have his website right then he appears to be an artist and art critic, possibly a very fine one, so I’m curious to hear what he has to say about art as money laundering.

      One I liked watching was ‘Swiss Miss.’
      She had the ability to mix the game up so much that her opponent had no idea what would happen next. A very clever Martina Hingis. I don’t remember any tantrums from her.

    For the first time in 3 years I came second! By $11 🙁
    Amanda had a Nov account from Mercury for $1477.00.
    It was only after we all paid for her lunch that she revealed one of her kids had let the bath overflow and flooded the carpets. Apparently they had two big blower heaters running for nearly 6 days to dry it out underneath.
    Hardly ‘normal’ use, but anyway, I’ll be making a rule change for next year.

  Maggie, there used to be a bookshop in Auckland CBD {Progressive?) that kept copies of the Mao’s little red book under the counter. I got a copy and found it full of truisms like ‘power comes out of the barrel of a gun’. Or
  ‘When there is not enough to eat, people starve to death. It is better to let half of the people die so that the other half can eat their fill’.
  This is a good summary:
  ‘The purpose of the book was to distill the voluminous products of Mao’s mind and pen into a small volume that even a semi-literate peasant or new soldier could read, memorise, or set to music. The aphorisms therein were plucked out of context and strung together without much regard for chronology: if it was Mao’s thought, it must be coherent, went the editorial idea’.

    I seriously doubt that ever happened. Now I could be wrong here but what you maybe remembering is a version of the Zhongshan jacket. A mandarin collar, a buttoned front and two pockets.
    The Mao suit has a high mandarin collar with four pockets and five large buttons.
    Zhongshan is also known as Dr. Sun Yat Sen, the nationalist revolutionary (blue), Mao was the communist revolutionary (red).
    Maybe you can link me to some evidence, or maybe you are hallucination communist infiltration where none exists.

Not being a frequent user, the other day at Pikes Point Transfer Station, staff with the Gold Earrings asked me my number plate going out, I thought, that’s a bit odd, and said “Don’t you have a number plate reader” ?
He plays around with his keyboard a bit more and hands over the POS Terminal.
Today at 1:02 pm, he says $243, I enter my pin thinking , that is a bit mauch, I ask Gold Earring “how many kilos?”, he said 700, I said, it cant be over 100kg,
The other staff comes over and “recalculates, 200kg, only $87, they work out the $156 refund, only after asking twice did I get the actual rubbish receipt, reluctant to give it to me.
The question is, if it happens once, the system has a back door, likely staff are in on a rort.
Such a big overcharge too, no explanation given.
Corruption is creeping in, folks.

Have just located a jar of spicy tomato relish I made 10 years ago…and can’t believe how yummy it is.

I don’t remember being that impressed with it when I made it and recorded on the recipe at the time that it was too runny & too sweet.

Thank goodness tomatoes are cheap at the moment….
