Heard an interview with a guy on Newstalk ZB .

The interview was about so called CHCH Call .

The interviewer mentioned the word “Gasbagging”.The guy who was being interviewed seemed to turn also incandescent about the word .
Makes me wonder why he got so hostile to poor wee Andrew Dickens who was after all stating a fact .Maybe the person being interviewed did not understand the “Kings English”.
The person who was being so precious was some guy from Islamic Federation or a similar description .Go figure .

      One has a choice between outrage and being charitable.
      
      A more charitable approach would be to say that the CCCall was based on emotions (feelings) when rational thinking 🤔 is what is required.
      
      Humans are inclined to think in terms of either or, black or white, our side/their side … we all know that this type of thinking creates more outrage and divides, and nothing good ever result from that.

        Normally Ghost I’d agree, but apparently, he is the designated spokesman for the Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand. ZB gave out his full title, which sounded very impressive. Anyway Chuck appears to be a grounded individual, interested in philosophy and politics, rather than a swivel-eyed branch member of the Muslim Brotherhood. I’d trust Chuck.

  Here’s the difference between the West and Islam:
  
  West: One guy goes off his trolley and shoots 60 or so Muslims, West hangs its collective head in shame. The dude is charged and put away forever. The victims (and extended families) are hugged and given citizenship.
  
  Islam: A bunch of people rush into Israel. They are not as effective individually, but there are many of them. They kill 1200, rape and burn in the most brutal way. Islam cheers can calls them all heroes. The victims are turned into pariahs and re-victimised.
  
  Until that circle can be squared, there is no peace.

    cmm it’s time that people accept that the conflict in Palestine has been going on for a long time. The Israelis have continually infringed on Palestinian territory by building towns and settlements despite signing up to “treaties” that give the Palestinians back ownership of Palestinian land. Maybe consider that the October 7 incident was a desperate act to get the world to notice the plight of the Palestinian population who have systematically been deprived of their rights for years. Here in New Zealand it is not beyond the bounds of belief to conceive of a group of maori activists turning to violence if the waitangi treaty fails to deliver. Remember the Ureweras..

      Fails to deliver what?
      
      What is broken in the Maori community can never be fixed by the treaty, because nothing external is holding Maori back – only Maori themselves.
      
      Maori have had the vote longer than whites.
      Maori have continually had more rights than whites.
      Maori get various hand-outs and opportunities not given to others.
      Maori have been given every possible opportunity to succeed.
      
      So if Maori are still failing to achieve it is not because the treaty (in reality, the taxpayer) is not delivering.

  The term ‘gasbagging’ does have a pejorative tone to it. Not used so much these days, though ‘gaslighting’ is common and is definitely intended to be pejorative.
  
  The interviewee may have been confused with ‘gaslighting’, though a texter did suggest he was a prime example of gasbagging himself. (He was.)

  I’m glad that the Government / Taxpayer is not funding the Christchurch Call any more, as the whole affair was irrelevant to New Zealand culture – we were just the venue for an overseas person to express their dislike for another overseas culture.
  
  The failure of our Police in giving the perpetrator a guns licence without proper checks was the only issue for New Zealand to address. Yet we have been made to pay paid millions and made to think we are the bad people.
  
  BTW did we ever get an apology from Australia for one of their own committing the atrocity?

The Herald reports that NZ has voted in the UN to ‘enhance the rights of Palestine’ and, by implication, Hamas:
“Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peters said the resolution enhanced the rights of Palestine to participate in the work of the UN General Assembly while stopping short of admitting Palestine as a full member of the UN.

“New Zealand will make a clear statement to the UN later this morning explaining its vote, indicating that while it supports enhancing Palestine’s status at the UN, this does not amount to recognition of Palestinian statehood,” Peters said”.
There has been minimal comment in the MSM on this decision in New Zealand.
However, across the Ditch, there is outrage at Australia’s similar vote. Take a look at this editorial by Chris Kenny and substitute the word ‘Australia’ with ‘New Zealand’.

Sunspot AR3664 just unleashed the strongest solar flare of the current solar cycle–an X8.7-category blast from beyond the sun’s western limb. X marks the spot in this image of the flare from NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory:

Because the sunspot is behind the edge of the solar disk, the flare was partially eclipsed. It was probably even stronger than it appeared. “X8.7” is almost certainly an underestimate of the flare’s true strength.

    I occasionally watch PBS in America. It has a left bias but some good shows.
    
    Public broadcasting surely must offer shows that are neglected by commercial networks because they are not profitable? TVNZ does not meet that test. Its “news” is insufferable. All the other shows are stupid tabloid rubbish.

    Thats what I thought! I was stunned it took that many people to make the show.
    
    I really enjoy the Block AU but the NZ version was always a very poor replica. There hadn’t been major prize money for ever and the NZ version focused more on contests then actual work and design skill. Like Mark Richardson though 🙂

      I’ve only ever watched the block au, but look at their set up. Each team has a cameraman, sound, producer. I doubt the same crew are with them for the full day. Then you have your builders, plumbers, etc. the comment was a couple of hundred would work on the show.

Listening to Ginny Anderson on NewstalkZB this morning made me more convinced that the theme song/campaign song for the Opposition ( Labour, Greens, Maori Party ), and for that matter the media, should be that wonderful Groucho Marx song ‘Whatever it is I’m against it”.

  It makes you wonder why these failed MP’s keep embarrassing themselves in the media by automatically being against everything.
  What the Labour Party and its hangers-on did, and pretended they would do if re-elected, was rejected by voters in the general election.
  That they still cannot accept that speaks volumes about their conceit and entitlement.
  Likewise the Tv media people need to get over their devotion to Mr Hipkins. They rush straight to him to ask what he thinks of every policy proposal that the coalition government comes up with.
  And of course he rubbishes and trivialises everything in a smart-Alec fashion – seldom with any rational thought.
  I don’t recall the media treated Mr Luxon that way when he was opposition leader. Msm couldn’t have cared less what he had to say then – or now even.
  I don’t care what Hipkins thinks.

Is it me or am I more than ever seeing a Social Revolution which actually started under Helen Clark and continued unabated under Ardern.
Socialism in all its ways is currently rife as so many people appear to object to the elected Government in anything they do and are finding ways such as the Waitangi Court of Appeal decision. What is the Waitangi Tribunal – House of Lords as what they would think nd appear supported by Lawyers whereas Parliament is still Paramount, or so we are led to believe.
Government Departments are openly defying the Coalition Government and from what we hear could not care a toss what they think.
The media are still at their worse all and every day where possible to denigrate anything being done in accordance as to the electors wishes.
Overall we are currently in a very parlous state and could believe that were an election be called a frightening left wing mixture would take over.
What is happening our youngest and brightest are off overseas and many will not return. We are seeing huge immigration numbers many of whom would appear to be as unskilled as we already have here.
It is becoming a very depressing picture, but do not know what the media, and the Labour Maori Greens expect to achieve, without destroying New Zealand.
Bearing in mind that Maori want it all now !
Maybe that is what they want – me, me, me, and sod everybody else, as we are always right.

Trump has quadrupled his support with black and Hispanic, he has got the young sector up to 50/60 which he failed hugely in last time, even woman are equally supporting Trump now.
  
  CNN poll had Trump leading easily in 5 of the 6 swing states which Biden won all of last time, he is leading by double digits in some of those states.

        Steve, no one can force him to give evidence. But giving his evidence is the best way he could prove he approved the payoff for his family’s sake (icky, but only a misdemeanor) instead of to improve his election chances (still icky, but a felony).

It’s not perjury that would bother me as his lawyer; it’s his inability to stick to the story. He is liable to say anything under pressure and would be completely unpredictable and uncontrollable. Sometimes I wonder whether the Middle East shouldn’t just take their shit show to Cape Town for a fact finding visit there.

Cape Town has had a vibrant multi-cultural/multi-religious society including Muslims and Christians for 300+ years. Admittedly, until the early 1800s most of those Muslims were slaves, but that’s still 200 years during which there has been relative peace and harmony between people of different faiths.

What are they getting right?

It is gutting to see so many hives having to be destroyed because of non-clinical American Foul Brood (AFB).

The article says that 0.5% of NZ beekeepers have reported AFB. I doubt the number is really as low as that.

Here is Canterbury I know three beekeepers who lost hives to AFB in one year – as well as losing one myself. They must have been infected from somewhere else. This suggests to me that there are a hell of a lot more infected hives that are just off the radar.

I wonder how long NZ can continue with this AFB management policy. I think at some stage we’ll need to switch to using antibiotics like everywhere else.

  Our new hives keep dying of the veroa strips. Not of the mites themselves but right after the strips are replaced.
  
  Of course if we did t use strips as mandated they would die of the mite. But it’s fitting when half the hives die from the treatment.

Note the careful wording: declaring it was believed to have become extinct “due to human interaction including the introduction of predators” and then says it was declared extinct in 1907, and extinction occurred “more than 100 years ago”.

All of that together gives the reader a clear steer that the bird was rendered extinct by the actions of the evil honkey – nothing to do with the brown skinned first inhabitants of the motu.

I have just consulted an authority on such things – a long time officer of Forest and Bird – and he tells me that the huia did survive until European colonization, but because it had been widely hunted by Maori, it was reduced to small populations in remote ranges.

My friend says that European collectors – aided by eager Maori hunters – finished it off by the late 19th century. My same informant tells me that current thinking is that around 40 – yes FORTY – species of bird had been made extinct by Maori hunting by the time of European colonization.

  My partner made the mistake some years back of sending an old Maori whalebone club he inherited to the Ak museum to have it dated and authenticated. Came back with all the documentation and a Y registration number written on. Means he can’t sell it out of NZ now. Wishes he hadn’t of bothered.

  we have 53 extinct species of bird.
  
  15 of those have gone extinct since 1850.
  
  So at least 38 species were rendered extinct by colonizing Maori and their predatory travelling companions(pacific rat and dog) in a brief span of 400 years.

Clearly, after reading Thomas Coughlan’s article this afternoon claiming that it’s Treasury’s fault and that Robertson and co didn’t know they’d run the nz economy into the ground because treasury didn’t tell them. Good grief – do you believe that? Coughlan clearly a Labour Party shill, or his editor is.

Labour were in power for 6 years and had no idea what was going on with their overspending?

Anyway the coalition should carry on with whatever they have planned for the budget. Cannot be any worse than if Labour had been re elected.
