  So who controls Western Governments? IMHO it aint the citizens. Its the UN and its agencies, the WEF, OECD, World Bank, IMF and others.
  Take immigration. It was no coincidence that both NZ and Australia had record immigration in 2023. Both were told to take those numbers or suffer the consequences. Politicans are mere puppets dancing to the tune of their controllers. Face it. Those organisations can make or break a Government. They have more power than small or even larger countries. Sadly there is nothing citizens can do to stop the command and control of those they elect.

      Cultural, political economic diffusion works like a plant growing towards the water and the light, no central brain doing long term planning is necessary.
      Although there obviously is some such planning, do you think that there AREN’T Hollywood executives trying to make their next movie a huge hit? or others planning ways to crack into a new market with their latest doo-dad?
      the sad thing is that the deep conspiratorial mode of thinking (Freemasons and the CIA killed JFK etc.) is actually the optimistic view of humanity. Actually, I feel sorry for Kainga Ora in this case, as they are a social housing provider, but not a Mental Health provider, or social workers.

This gentleman should have been in an awful lot of in trays, and Kainga Ora were the only ones who did something for him.

Where were the Mental health workers? Where were the social workers?

  I know there are lots of high needs people out there but he is clearly capable of cleaning his house as it says he looked after it well initially. So there’s no excuse to treat your taxpayer funded home like that.
  
  As for buses into the city- why does he need to go into the city? Not like he has a job. And a snapper card would reduce the fares significantly.
  
  I really get fed up with the whinging of people who sure, have pretty shit lives, but actually get pretty well looked after.

      A friends adopted son has FAS. At 20 now he gives in a group Home, nice happy young man. Yes he needs guidance to buy his groceries (goes in a group with a helper), but he contributes to society through a number of part time jobs working for businesses and charities where his contribution is welcomed.
      
      Difference may be that he was given up at birth and adopted into a family with siblings and parents who are functioning members of society and always expected him to be as well, albeit in a different way to his siblings.

      Almost 40 years on, whenever I think of the Rainbow Warrior my blood boils. I am half French on my mother’s side. Before that atrocity happened I was very proud of my French heritage, and frankly felt more at home in France than in NZ.
      
      The Rainbow Warrior destroyed all that. What was particularly galling at the time was vox pops in France showed 65% (IIRC) of the French public approved of what had been done.

        Visiting rural France some 20 years ago. Got taken to a ”mature” French ladies house to enquire about renting a caravan she had in a local campground.
        
        When she found out I was from NZ, she visibly was agitated.
        But Surely Kiwis hate the French because of the Rainbow warrior she said.
        
        Assured her that Kiwis didn’t hate the French as it was the French government that created the sinking, not the French People. She then relaxed, we chatted, I rented the Caravan, and we remained friends until she died in 2012.
        
        Note: I travelled for months around rural France and found the people friendly and helpful.!!!! Cities: Another story altogether, but the same in most countries I have had the privilege of visiting.

      Even if asked, many people would be reluctant to list such reasons for fear of being labelled “racist”, “white supremacist”, or similar.
      
      Despite that, I agree that the Maori Party’s highly inflammatory rhetoric, and similar comments from people such as Willie Jackson will feature in many people’s reasons. They are a part of the much-maligned silent majority, who do not express their opinions publicly and thus are overshadowed in the media by the more vocal minority.

    I have heard of several who have left for Oz due to Aotearoa apartheid. It may not be the only reason, but it was major part of it.
    When asked why they were going, it was one of the first 4easons. It also heavily impacts the second reason, that of a better and more prosperous long term future. If you can’t see the connection, look at South Africa.

      I suspect I’m not the only expat here who thinks like this as well.

But what really struck me was the comment of the artist, renowned Aboriginal artist Vincent Namatjira – “We are all equal in Australia … No matter what heritage you have or where you come from … We are all Australian”.

This from a man whose local heritage stretches back 50,000 years. Food for thought.

        The word “immigrant” was never used in the 19th century to describe these people, and why would it be? They weren’t moving to an established jurisdiction where they had to go through a process to become citizens of said jurisdiction (despite whatever revisionist nonsense the delusional far left would have you believe, disparate tribes with no established infrastructure occupying a land mass does not a country make). British settlers were founding the country, not immigrating to one.

        My great grandfather migrated from Ireland to NZ in 1881 or around then. Some might say he was a refugee, but that’s another discussion
        Another word to chuck in the mix is expat to describe a temporary migrant even if they have no intention of moving ‘home’

        My old dictionary describes an expatriate as someone sent abroad, an exile
        My mother was English and she lived 3/4 of her life in Timaru after she married Dad, but for a long time referred to the UK as ‘home’

      There reason it can take a decade to get a medicine approved. Money. Or more accurately a lack of money. Drug companies hedge their bets. In the case of the covid vaccine trials there was unlimited money.
      
      Think about it. How could it be plausible that testing a medicine could literally take 12 years, if the only constraints were clinical?

        Polio was killing lots of Americans (Hint Covid similar situation). So a sense of urgency.

        BY – the evidence is that Medsafe could not approve the mRNA treatments due to insufficient safety data. The sign off was then escalated to a separate committee whose anonymity has been maintained by the Ombudsmen. After that there was massive campaigns to promote how the treatments were ‘Safe and Effective’.
        
        How can a medical person ensure their patient provides informed consent when there is insufficient safety data to sign-off the treatment?
        
        Furthermore, there were risk calculators made available by Oxford University that showed that the risk to young people 19 years and younger from COVID (the earlier more deadly strains than we experienced in NZ) were too low to calculate. By the time NZ introduced mandates down to 12 years of age there were studies showing adverse impacts to young people eg the study of young men in Hong Kong. Why then would any medical person administer a treatment to a person more likely to harm them than help them?
        
        Medical people were threatened with loss of their practicing certificate if they did not follow the company line on mRNA treatments. This is a terrible position to be put in but does not absolve them from professional accountability. For those of us that did not get swept along in the fervour of the get vaxxed movement these times had strong parallels to our impressions of what it might have been like in WWII Germany. However, I wouldn’t equate individual Drs to Mengeles.
        
        Clearly the greatest burden of responsibility within NZ sits with Ashley Bloomfield, the Prime Minister Ardern, Minister of Health Hopkins, the MOH, the professional associations for medical people. However, the professionals at the coalface are also responsible for their actions.
        
        While I would like to see this examined through inquiry it is not likely to get a proper inquiry. How is it possible when all current leaders of our political parties, apart from Winston Peters who wasn’t in parliament, sided with the Government? They all would have to acknowledge they were wrong. Never going to happen. There has been no criticism of the selection of mRNA treatment proponent and recipient of big pharma research funding, Tony Blakely, as the head of the inquiry. Maybe in a generations time, things might have changed enough for this to get an independent and objective review.

        I recognise that the covid vaccines are contentious with many commenters. It hard to have a sensible debate because it is too complex for abbreviated kiwiblog comments. We would need to be at it all day. 🤡 So I am reluctant to start a debate to which I cannot dedicate the time to finish.
        
        I have concluded that doctors and politicians were shocking in over selling the efficacy of the vaccine in preventing transmission (it did not). At the other end of the spectrum I don’t buy into assertions that the vaccines have killed millions of people.
        
        BTW the AstraZeneca vaccine is not an mRNA vaccine.

      Out of interest, if it’s not too nosy, which shipping company do you work for? I worked for NZ Line, Union Shipping and ANZDL in the 80s and 90s, our paths may have crossed then.       I’m not sure that it was fear porn. When those kids were doing those drills the Cold War was bloody freezing and there was a very real threat of a nuclear war between the US and the USSR.
      Perhaps it was a well meaning attempt to give the kids an illusion that they could survive a nuclear bomb.
      I was at school in the UK from 1968, I don’t recall any drills then, perhaps it was a peculiarly American practise.

  Taxes in Denmark are amongst the highest in the world. 45% income tax rising to 52.5% for high income earners. Worldwide income is taxed unless you are a tax resident in another country. A VAT ( GST) of 25%.
  
  But the Danes are quite happy to pay these high taxes because they receive a lot of benefits. Free education all the way through university and a substantial student stipend amongst other benefits such as free or low cost medical care.

      Then suddenly an influx of large numbers who did not , do not and will not share those cultural / societal norms of hard working and shared costs .
      
      Thus the resemntment from the highly taxed worker who saw benefits ( housing , health , education etc )being paid out to people who never contribute .
      
      That resentment in Denmark particularly drove the usually immigrant / multi culti loving social democrats to become one of the harder parties on immigration, and yet do the legacy msm call the social democrats there “far right”.

  Great country , worked there a for a few years , cheap booze , one giant pig farm .
  Only place in the world I’ve been to a bar and felt short , I’m 6’2” .
  People were great , we dealt with rural folk mostly , Copenhagen was fantastic …. Loved christiana which was /is ? A very progressive set up , cuts the gangs out . Basically a giant set up where you can buy weed n mushies , trestle tables everywhere like a school gala .
  It’s illegal , but govt let them do it there .
  Fond memories and I haven’t even mentioned the women .
  Let me put it this way ….. Maggie pie would struggle for attention 😁
  This was all 25 years ago , just as the cultural enrichers were starting to turn up , we had a few fights with in Swedish nightclubs ( malmo ) , they were hyper aggressive and kiwis like the Irish don’t tolerate that crap .

  The cultural enrichers we were fighting with in malmo nightclubs had the following attitude.
  They owned all the women in the club
  If you danced with a woman they would come up hyper aggressive and try and staunch you out . If you didn’t back down it was on .
  It was scary .
  We only had 4 blokes in our crew .
  When you asked the women if they were with the immigrant scum they 100% replied no , we just local girls on a night out .

  You forget to tell the whole story.
  
  Denmark tax system is complicated, deductions are many. University, dental, doctors all free. and corporate tax/company tax around 22% because they understand the need for the economy to grow. They whole system is set up to encourage investment, investment in R & ; D, They use and sell knowledge as they have no natural resources. It something in between capitalist and socialist. The big thing is the voters understand the need for big successful companies to be big and successful and they celebrate that. Those big successful companies provide employment and generally have good a social consciensus, invest back in society. And for some odd reason they seem to retain these big companies in local ownership – again giving back to the country not overseas interests. Many of the big danish companies build museums, recreational centers and just give back to society

    We used to hear that making NZ more productive was the way to achieve prosperity/increase the size of the pie for all. Government policy was clearly linked to this ethos.
    
    Then Labour et al over the past 6 years displayed a masterclass in talking lofty ideas then borrowing and spending on nothing that makes the country sustainably more productive. We now live in their debt fuelled inflationary and high interest rate hell that has eroded quality of life for the majority.
    
    Where is the journalist asking how they will fund this 2040 vision?
    
    Why have our Government parties been so ineffective at highlighting the damage done to NZ?
    
    Luxon & co are leaving the door wide open for Labour to come back in 2 years. That would be the death knell for our economy. Does anyone here understand what the coalition government’s vision for NZ is? If they don’t start communicating this more clearly and getting people to believe in it then they are going to lose their votes. I already hear people blaming the new Government for the hardships they are facing. Hard to believe but true.   You’ll find the use of Maori in sports (and other) programmes is usually a contractual issue around funding or licensing.
  
  It might be the case that individual commentators have an agenda to push but the usage is so widespread and consistently employed (including the onscreen graphics used) that it’s obviously policy and scripted. All must comply or not have a contract.

      The murder rate was astronomical around that time reaching a peak of 2245 in 1990
      In Giuliano’s last year as mayor, 2001, it was down to 649 not counting the WTC
      Last year it was 386
      I remember in 1972 that everything seemed to be covered in graffiti. A ride on the subway, that had graffiti everywhere inside and out, was $1 flat rate.
      We’d just come from Twizel where Max Smith the Project Engineer would go to the pub on Friday night and tell everyone to go home if they had work the next day.

    Surely the answer is to charge EV owners for the charging network? It would be so simple to add a surcharge to the registration fees for EVs? If they all scream, then fine don’t do it.

        Pretty sure that the privately owned EV chargers such as ChargeNet are profitable. They keep installing more chargers.
        
        The cost to use these high speed chargers is not cheap. Works out to be over $1.00 per KwHr when you add in the per minute cost.
        
        Over four fast charges the cost was $21.41 for 19.4 Kw of energy and charging a total of 1 hour and 24 minutes.

Brooke van Velden coolly upheld free-speech rights on a Radio NZ feature today. She’s an intelligent and skilful politician.

RNZ’s Media Watch still seemed to be supporting internet censorship, with input from the Broadcasting Authority, whose domain is apparently emigrating to the online world.

Media Watch’s Colin Peacock criticised “template” submissions to the Department of Internal Affairs, which, incidentally is still using as its primary title “Te Tari Taiwhenua”.

The templates refer to the Free Speech Union’s 93 per cent of the 20,000 submissions to the DIA on proposed regulation of online speech. Van Velden abandoned the proposal.

Peacock criticised Free Speech Union for using “templates” — a selection of points which supporters could select. It thus facilitated submissions, but Peacock seemed to imply providing such lists as help did more than that.

Seems to me how much opinion-gathering works: a list of choices, rather than seeking open-end responses.

No surprise Radio NZ, a ghostly echo of Ardernism, wants the internet controlled in the way that many countries control or controlled broadcasting.

        Demi = half, so a demigod is half god. The belief in demigods is that the gods had children with mortals, these children often had superhuman powers. Common in Greek mythology.
        
        The closest concept to this biblically is the Nephilim, in Genesis 6:4. Where the sons of god (Angels perhaps) fathered children with women. These people were giants apparently, and many were the heroes of old. Goliath was possibly descended from the Nephilim.
        
        Saints are people not demigods. They have a special place in the next life but are still just people. God determines who Saints are, not people – a point of difference between Catholic theology and other Christians.
        
        Mary is a special person, being the women chosen to be the mother of Jesus. She is not a deity. The practice of praying to Mary is a point of difference between Catholic theology and other Christians who see this as a form of idolatry.
        
        Saint and Demigod are two very disparate ideas.

    Most of the folk in the 26 are also very insular in thought and philosophy.
    
    Currently Sinn Fein are polling very strongly and the two civil war faction parties have had to combine to keep them out . And many of the independents are also cut from the extremist cloth.

RNZ reports that 75% of Wellingtonians reject any sale of WCC’s 34% ownership of the airport. My first thought was that Christchurch’s council-must-own-everything attitude has permeated north; but then I recalled that the share sale proceeds were to be put into a green wealth fund.

RNZ did not dig into that level of detail. If asked, I’d have rejected the notion also.

    Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face, Wellington relies on air travel for lots of public servants and MPs who commute all over the country on at least a weekly basis. Not to mention the international air traffic bringing lots of overseas money into the city. Let’s jeopardise that by refusing to upgrade the airport. Greens, even bigger wreckers than Labour!
