Julie Anne Genter is not doing well engaging with folk on twitter.

She was triggered by the Kàinga Ora Review concluding that the organisation was “not financially sustainable”. She did not address that conclusion. Instead she told the world that it was actually NZTA that was financially unsustainable because they were building highways.

She attracted some adverse comments. 😅

Next we had some virtue signalling.

It’s at least 75% full.

One reply pointed out that in the first quarter of 2024 she spent $10,100 on air travel.

Out of 123 MPs, this is the 10th highest expenditure on air travel for the first quarter of 2024. However what makes this odd is that she is a Wellington based MP. She does not need to fly to Parliament each week.🤔

The average expenditure on air travel for all MPs in the quarter was $5,441. Her travel costs are almost double that.

This just illustrates that her travelling home in a bus rather than a taxi is pure virtue signalling. 😂

So what about the other Green Party MPs? Surely they are economical in their expenditure on air travel? To save the climate? Well not exactly.

Of the 10 highest spending MPs on air travel, four are Green MPs. 😳

Finally, which Party had the highest average expenditure on air travel for the quarter? The Green Party at $6,784. 😅🤡

It might be best if JAG lays off the virtue signalling for a while.

      But JAG lives in Wellington. 🤔 Even if she went to the Chathams which are in her electorate that is maybe 1,000. She was spending about $1,000 per week.

    Just use aircraft when there are more sustainable options. The number of times James Shaw flew between Auckland and wellington when there a perfectly good train to use is unbelievable.
    
    Now would it take ten times as long? Yes. Is it uncomfortable? Yes. It’s it convenient? No.

      She flew there courtesy of RNZAF.
      
      In May 2024, MP Juli-Anne Genter visited the Chatham Islands (the islands form part of the Rongotai electorate) to advise on strategy for transitioning to active transport as part of the Island Council’s goal towards net-zero carbon emissions by 2030.   ‘Affordable and frequent’ public transport. It would be grand if Ms Genter wrapped some numbers around that. Like how much would be paid by actual public transport users and how much by ratepayers and taxpayers.
  
  Meanwhile Dr Bryce Wilkinson in his NZInitiative KO review report article ‘Housing Mess Laid Bare’ adds up the cost of ‘affordable’ in the housing sector:
  
  Government spending on housing support is forecast to average around $8 billion annually over the next three years, or around $4,000 per household. That is a massive increase on the $2.6 billion spent in 2018.Taxpayers who want to believe their money is being well-spent should not read the Review.

  That woman lives in a bubble. She could try asking some of the other MPs who live in country electorates how often they can take a bus home. For example on the Coromandel peninsula we just don’t have public transport.
  I was thinking of these idealistic Green MPs yesterday as we spoke with a mum who had driven her kids (and a couple of team mates) an hour away to partake in a sports contest.
  How are we in these areas supposed to cope without cars?

    But it just goes to show how totally out of touch the Green Party people are with life out of their inner city urban enclaves.
    They want everything and give nothing.
    The rural- based parents of one of our grandchildren do whatever they can to get their rugby-mad child to the games on a Saturday morning.
    There are no public transport options.
    But their boy is up and ready by 8am, dressed in his kit , and looking forward to playing every Saturday. Sometimes it is a 45 minute trip or more and one of his parents often has to work on a Saturday.
    The boy is 6 years old.

  As most Green MPs have no constituency, can the list MPs be domiciled in Wellington and have a much reduced travel budget based on public transport between parliament and their homes in Wainuiomata ?.
  
  It’s clear from their travel that the Greens are totally abusing the privilege to do what ?, shoplift, protest, back terrorist organisations, abuse and assault people. Certainly it doesn’t appear much is being done to advance New Zealand.

DS: It’s one of the strands that makes up my blended ancestry. I’m part Scottish and part English, it makes me think about the past. My Māori ancestors sailed across the Pacific Ocean with extraordinary skill and ability and built a society here in New Zealand. I think where I might be different from the way some people would answer that question is that being Māori doesn’t bind me. I could also look at various parts of my Scottish or English history. It’s only about 400 years since the English were burning people at the stake on suspicion of being witches. I don’t really want that part of my English history. I feel I can pick and choose and I feel the same about my Māori background.

        I’ve often wondered why they didn’t navigate back. After the Moa was extinct and they were killing each other. I’m guessing that the necessary knowledge was lost over generations.
        
        If they could navigate from Polynesia to New Zealand in 1300 AD, you would think that by, say, 1600 AD they would have advanced ship building and navigation techniques. But it seems that did not happen.

        The revival of ocean navigation skills on double-hulled waka has come recently via Hawaiians.

        I suspect that navigational & ocean going canoe-building knowledge was lost down through the years at least in part through a combination of losing wars (and being eaten) & natural disaster (there’s evidence of significant tsunamis hitting the BoP in the 14th & 15th centuries that could have wiped out seaside villages, especially if they struck at night).

        Hawaiiki, where some Maori say they come from has been identified as Raeatea in French Polynesia. Kupe had been to the land we call New Zealand and returned – the Hokianga is where he left from for his return voyage. The Takatimu waka left from Takatimu Beach on Rarotanga – word of the new land had spread around all of Polynesia -there were multiple voyages between islands back then.

      It could have been blind luck after being banished from wherever it was.
      
      Notice that in that “rich oral history” that Maori have, the history stops dead at the arrival of the great waka. Why?
      
      Someone with the skills and tools that Maori had back then might have been able to point themselves in a consistent direction, but navigate?
      
      Navigation means you know where you are, and can leave and return to that place. As far as i know, navigation requires a timepiece, a sextant, and record keeping, in order to measure the different positions of the stars and sun as you move around the globe. Maori didn’t have any of those things.

        You will not find Hawaiki on a map, but it is believed Māori came from an island or group of islands in Polynesia in the South Pacific Ocean.
        
        1. “In the South Pacific Ocean” is a huge generalization. If you’re going to navigate there and back, you need better than that.
        2. Using stars and ocean currents… the ocean currents are a huge anti clockwise circle in the South Pacific.

        If Ocean currents were employed by Kupe, then that’s more blind luck than it is navigation, but notwithstanding that, how do you then go back against those currents with a tiny, inefficient sail?         Finding Latitude is a relatively simple concept. In fact sailors travelling to Africa and India used a Ruler and piece of string.
        Longitude is impossible until the invention of an accurate chronometer.
        Sailing East / Westwards would rely on time of year and prevailing winds which produce currents.

        Just ask yourself whether his purported definition of three word ‘indigenous’ was the meaning when he was at school. No, it wasn’t. The supposed meaning is one recently manufactured by the UN and others so Maori and others qualify and can be equated with the Native Americans and Aboriginals of Australia etc.
        
        The meaning of indigenous’ was until very recently ‘originating from or native to or naturally occurring in a place’. Now of course people claim Maori are ‘indigenous’ but only because the meaning has been changed so that they qualify.
        
        You only have to look at the cases of the dog and rat Maori brought with them to New Zealand – do we call them indigenous too? No of course we don’t, they are ‘introduced’.
        
        I suspect Mike knows this, he’s a clever guy, but for some reason he just refuses to concede it and continues his terminological inexactitude.
        
        Oh and by the UN’s new definition of indigenous the native Brits don’t qualify as indigenous! Many of their ancestors have been there for tens of thousands of years but they do not meet the UN’s definition of indigenous, but Maori who arrived here just a few hundreds of years before Whitey do!

        Playing that game is to pretend all human peoples have equal status everywhere because their distant ancestors moved from somewhere else. This ignores the reality of conquest or colonization. It’s pretty clear that the situation differs from place to place. Some parts of the world get so thoroughly conquered or colonized that barely a trace of the original inhabitants remains.
        The Celts, Anglo-Saxons, Norse and Norman settlers in England no longer have any distinct identity as separate peoples. Maori in NZ do. NZ was the last major habitable land mass reached by humans – by the Polynesian navigators who became Maori.

        Conquest. Like Maori did to each other for centuries before.
        
        Māori warfare traditionally involved hand-to-hand combat, with weapons designed to kill. Reasons for war could be practical, such as for land or resources, but could also be to increase mana or as revenge for insults.
        
        Given this was the way well before European arrival, you’d have to have a very strong pair of rose tinted glasses to believe that if there had been other inhabitants present upon Maori arrival that they wouldn’t have been displaced in exactly the same way.

This is quite a formidable cv and work record. Skim through it.

I am Co-ordinating Lead Author of Chapter 18 of the Working Group 2 contribution to the Sixth Assessment Report of the IPCC (‘Climate Resilient Development Pathways’) as well as Drafting Author of the WG2 Summary for Policymakers, both published in February 2022. I was also a Lead Author in the Fifth Assessment Report (WG2, Ch21), and Co-Editor of the WG2 Glossary, as well as a Lead Author in the Special Report on Managing Extreme Events – SREX (Ch2).

I am the Co-Editor of the journal Climate and Development (Taylor and Francis), where I was one of the founding Associate Editors. I sit on the Editorial Boards of the journals World Development Perspectives (Elsevier) and Global Transitions – Health (KeAi). I am an Associate Editor of Mitigation and Adaptation Strategies for Global Change (Springer).
I currently sit on the Science Committee of the Adaptation Futures Conference 2023, and the CLARE Advisors Group, as well as the Reference Group of the OECD Adaptation Governance work programme. During 2022, I am also on the Editorial Board of 10 New Insights in Climate Science.

That is about half her list of credentials and accomplishments. She is clearly a very influential person in the IPCC and its work.

What does she do for a day job? “I teach on climate justice, decolonising and diversifying knowledge. I am a strong advocate of social science and gender balance in science and academia”. Doesn’t fill you with confidence that the IPCC just produces sound science of greenhouse gases, does it?

      o Maximum rainfall in a single day decreased at 10 and increased at 9 sites with no change at the remaining 11 – Extreme rainfall | Stats NZ.
      
      o Between 1997 and 2019 very high and extreme fire danger days likely or very likely increased at 12 and decreased at 8 of 28 sites across New Zealand, with no trend at 8. – Wildfire risk | Stats NZ.
      
      o Warm days likely or very likely increased at 24 and frost days decreased at 18 of 30 sites across New Zealand between 1972 and 2019 – Frost and warm days | Stats NZ
      
      NZ’s Professor James Renwick provided the input relevant to NZ to the IPCC 5th Assessment Report (2014) (“AR5”) regarding projected climate changes in New Zealand with the chapter editor being ex NIWA head, David Wratt. Based on his assessment the IPCC included this statement in the concluding paragraph to Chapter 14 of AR5:
      
      “It is very likely that temperatures will continue to rise over New Zealand. Precipitation is likely to increase in western regions in winter and spring, but the magnitude of change is likely to remain comparable to that of natural climate variability through the rest of the century. In summer and autumn, it is as likely as not that precipitation amounts will change.”

        This same general methodology has since been applied to Atlantic basin hurricanes (Vecchi and Knutson 2011) and major hurricanes (Vecchi et al. 2021). Atlantic basin hurricanes (Fig. 3, blue curve), show a weak rising trend since the late 1800s, but assuming there are no missing hurricanes in earlier years. After adjusting for a likely under-count of hurricanes in the pre-satellite era (Fig. 3, red curve) there is essentially no long-term trend in hurricane counts.
        
        The evidence for an upward trend is even weaker if we look at U.S. landfalling hurricanes, which even show a slight negative trend beginning from 1900 or from the late 1800s (Figure 3, orange curve). U.S. landfalling hurricane frequency is much less common than basin-wide frequency, meaning that the U.S. landfalling hurricane record, while more reliable than the basin-wide record, suffers from degraded signal-to-noise characteristics for assessing trends. The U.S. landfalling hurricane series (which has no “missing” storm adjustments) is similar to the adjusted basin-wide Atlantic hurricane counts in terms of its lack of century-scale trend (Fig. 3). Emanuel (2021) found that U.S. landfalling tropical cyclone frequency and power dissipation–for storms whose lifetime maximum winds exceeded 21 m/sec–had a period of unusually high activity from around 2004 to 2010 compared to the record extending into the late 1800s. It is not known if this represents an early sign of a climate change signal toward greater future U.S landfalling tropical cyclone activity or not.
        
        Concerning Atlantic basin-wide major (Category 3-5) hurricanes, Vecchi et al. (2021) conclude that their counts also show little evidence of a long-term increase (since the 1880s) after accounting for changes in observing system capabilities; they also show that U.S. landfalling major hurricanes (with no adjustment) have no significant increasing trend since the late 1800s.'

      It also says this…
      “This reconfirms the 30-year loss trend that’s been driven by the accumulation of assets in regions vulnerable to natural catastrophes”. (so not climate)
      It talks a lot about what they _expect_ to happen (or due to happen) due to changes in the climate.
      Also, given that ‘climate’ is defined to be (something like) an average of weather over a 30 year period, I think it’s difficult to conclude that changes within a 30 year period are positive proof of a change in the longer term trend, and will continue into the future.

  The Maoris were Stone Age hunter gatherers. Other than a few kumaras, they practised almost no horticulture and certainly no agriculture. There was a lot of slash and burn (approximately 50% of New Zealand’s forest cover had been removed by the arrival of the first Europeans), species were hunted to extinction, pests were introduced (rats and mice), and much land and many fisheries were exhausted. Marsden’s settlers noted that virtually every headland and promontory was covered in fortifications. Why would that be? The story of the efforts of these early settlers to teach the Bay of Islands Maoris how to grow and harvest wheat is almost comical.
  
  The whole bullshit theme of wonderful, wise, peaceful indigenes living at one with nature is very tiresome.

    Mice arrived here on boats from Europe and Asia.
    The first record of them in NZ is from the 1820s… arriving from the shipwreck of “henrietta” on Ruapeke Island, but they were probably here earlier than that (from 1790s).

  Men, lift heavy things. Muscle mass declines strongly from your 40s onwards. Very difficult to regain but easy to lose. Even a week’s bed rest can rob you of essential strength. Walking the wife’s chihuahua ain’t enough.
  
  Eat more protein, at least 1.5g per kg of body weight. When young protein synthesis is driven by hormones which older men no longer have in great abundance, therefore you must eat more. Great for weight loss as protein is very satiating. Reduce your carbs. Eat your wife’s chihuahua if you have to. Replace with tabby.
  
  Stay strong. Even apparently small things like grip strength are indicators of early decline and death. Move. Lift. Eat. Do it with other men of like minds. Find a Men’s Shed, or just build one; others will come.

The demand for firearms was such that tribes carried out raids on their neighbours to acquire more heads to trade for them. The peak years of the trade in mokomokai were from 1820 to 1831. In 1831 the Governor of New South Wales issued a proclamation banning further trade in heads out of New Zealand, and during the 1830s the demand for firearms diminished because every surviving group was fully armed. By 1840 when the Treaty of Waitangi was signed, and New Zealand became a British colony, the export trade in mokomokai had virtually ended, along with a decline in the use of moko in Māori society, although occasional small-scale trade continued for several years.

  The great thing about these slaves is that from the 1810s they provided a revenue stream as well as protein. Bonus!
  
  Of course, the trade was shutdown by the Governor of NSW (banning free trade – how dare he!), & was done & dusted pre 1840. No matter which way you cut it, this trade is completely on Maori. If they want the heads back in NZ, it should be for iwi to put their hands in their pockets & buy them back.
  
  As to eating people, not to mention cynically tattooing them beforehand (which suggests that they would have been enslaved young) – it doesn’t bear thinking about. We should remember that each head represents a human, whether honoured ancestor or slave.
  
  It would be good to hear an apology from iwi leaders for these atrocities.

I see also that there is a tendency to include first names when naming things after native people. The new name for ‘Epuni St’ in Wellington is so long I can’t remember it, but it does include Te Puni’s first name. Whoever would think of naming a street ‘Wilberforce Highflyer’?

    If you look at their website MOTAT has been infected by the same rampant Maorification affecting other institutions with, at best, only the most gossamer-thin links to anything actually Maori. Take a look at the Dark Sky Project in Tekapo – their website has a sizeable amount of bullshit about “Maori astronomy”.
    
    For me, the latest discoveries in astrophysics and astronomy are infinitely interesting, but not the simple animalistic myths of a Stone Age people staring credulously at the night sky.

    101 of research is to always get the raw data from which to draw your analysis. Copy and Paste is not research, no matter how many letters after the name of the person that wrote the article.

    The first bullet point makes the vaccine sound good — but hidden in the fourth bullet point is the key issue: there was no attempt to break down the groups by Health Status (e.g. number of comorbidities). So you’re left comparing two groups (vaxxed and unvaxxed) of the same AGE but you have no idea what the ratio of healthy, average, feeble, and morbidly ill people in each group is.
    
    The trick the ONS used was to put the headline bullet point first, and hope people didn’t read much further. Why they didn’t do a more fine-grained analysis is a mystery. . . Not a mystery to me, though.
    
    And not releasing the raw data (anonymized, of course) to independent researchers — that’s a ‘mystery’ too.
    
    In summary, ONS got this bit right: “[Age standardised mortality rates] are not equivalent to measures of vaccine effectiveness”.

  All that there’s is an interpretation based on selected correlations sourced from other substack posts.
  
  It is simply not possible to establish whether the vaccines (or as some prefer to call them “vaccines”) were effective and to what extent or whether they were not effective at all.
  Just as it is not possible to establish the precise number of the fatalities caused directly by Covid.

  It’s an interesting thing, but the rugby crowds have been the best in years. Even the game last night had far more attendees than the Crusaders used to attract when they were the almost unbeatable juggernaut of recent years
  With the perennial winners out of the picture the competition is far more interesting and I’m picking the beleaguered coach is getting a fair bit of nasty feedback from the Chch rugby diehards

But I have been reading about that rally in the Bronx.
I still doubt whether Trump will win New York, whereas six months ago I gave him two shows;

Our media don’t even try to hide their bias. Hot on the heels of a TV story about a homeless woman living in a car with her kids, this morning we have RNZ and Mihingarangi Forbes doing a long story on perpetual leases of Maori land. She made constant jibes about this government wanting ‘one law for all’. But where was she when Labour had six years in power with the most powerful Māori caucus ever? Why no questions about their total lack of action over leases? Did they even show any interest in the problem?
And where were all the stories about homelessness under Jacinda Ardern’s reign? Or did nobody live in their cars for six long years of kindness.
Obviously these problems crop up only under National.

      That’s a colony though, whereas we were a nation prior to 2020 – 2023. I was a New Zealander, now I find I am a ‘colonist’ like in a Maori country called Aotearoa, and I am now being told to ‘go back where I came from’. Our political leadership is a disgrace, the cowards who allowed it to come to this will be hated by future generations. Hated. And they are all in the Labour and National parties, the enablers and the ostriches alike, those who deliberately undermined our democracy & those who lacked the wisdom and moral courage to fight back against what was going on.

        I had a doctor in Auckland who would get abused and told to go back to china. Was white people abusing them. At one time she went on neighbours at war over some of the abuse. Before that they were on Paul Holmes when their son committed suicide because the hours of being a new doctor were so long. I was looking at pictures of New Caledonia & thinking, there’s some pretty good infrastructure. Compare & contrast with Rarotonga, which the last time I went there was pretty run down.

The Kanaks should be careful of what they wish for. If the French do pack their bags & leave, they’ll be taking their taxpayer largesse with them.
