Is it true that the Hamilton District Court under the recommendation of Oranga Tamariki and the SAFE program have just discharged a Pedophile without conviction despite repeated sexual assaults against a minor who was under the age of 12.

  I find this an interesting area and needs to be exposed as some claims are farcical e.g. Some top of the south iwi are holding land claims and had arrived in the region 20-30 years before many European ancestors. They too were chased out of the Waikato and made their way down the west coast of the north island and eventually crossed the ditch.

    And the much lauded Ngati Whatua were a tribe from Kaipara that chased the Maori out of Auckland down to the Waikato. It beats me that they have claimed downtown Auckland, even reclaimed land that didn’t exist before Europeans arrived.       Laws subordinate to the Constitution cannot modify the Constitution. The US President must be a ‘natural born citizen’. If the person is born on USA soil that person is eligible to be President – end of matter.

    What is “ridiculously absurd” about questioning her eligibility?
    The rules are fairly specific, although the passage of time has introduced some ambiguity due to changing definitions and social perceptions.
    That in itself is a fair reason to test her eligibility.
    The other candidates have met the criteria, so should she.

        There is a lot of confusing information on the google machine. By confusing I mean the different wording. Wherever I saw it the wording was a person born in the US applied for their citizenship when they turn 21. That is obviously wrong after searching some more.

      The meaning of terms in the Constitution would be as when the Constitution became effective in 1787 or its amendments (and the 14th Amendment is irrelevant in this instance). Any laws or changes of customary views would be irrelevant as interpretation aids. The only organisation which can interpret the meaning of the Constitution is the Supreme Court.
      So Article 2 Section 1 means just what it says. The concept that someone could be born in the USA but not be a citizen may be relevant for immigration purposes but has no place in interpreting the Constitution. This is especially as the 14 year living in USA requirement in Article 2 would rule out those who happened to be born in USA but never lived in the USA for any length of time.

The real reason why Unions stridently oppose Charter Schools, hint, it’s not because they care about Children or Education standards.
“The Education and Training Amendment Act was introduced to Parliament earlier than expected, according to NZEI Te Riu Roa, and will allow underperforming state schools to convert to charter schools.

The Post Primary Teachers’ (PPTA) Association president Chris Abercrombie said the act contained “unpleasant details” about the plans.

The legislation proposes that public schools that convert to charter are forcing teachers to either transfer or resign, he said.”
Yes unions are concerned that incompetent teachers might be sacked to improve teaching standards, and that if Charter schools are successful, state schools might follow suit.

  Translated – education leaders worry that parents may get increased control over schools.
  Interestingly Hipkins wanted to overturn the present school system which has operated under the Tomorrows Schools system for many years. His idea was a hierarchy of managers etc etc. However he faced significant political opposition from parents and had to give it away.
  The fear among the Left and teaching unions is Charter Schools would gain sufficient momentum as to make them politically difficult to dislodge. That is why David Seymour has successfully pushed for early legislation so the first charter schools will be open next year and the system will have 9 to 12 years to get sufficiently entrenched.

A lot of the stuff posted about US politics is stuff you’ll find online in 5 seconds if you have any interest in current affairs. If people have genuinely interesting non conspiracy theory stuff that isn’t commonly known and isn’t just incessant “I love Trump” or “I hate the Dems” cheerleading, then maybe they should post that. Otherwise we are just always wading through the US c-rap to get to the relevant and interesting revelations about what is occurring here in NZ.

  I understand the frustration some might have with US political discussion. But I and obviously many others here are deeply interested in the events in the US. With this being an election year it is not un reasonable for increased discussion around what’s happening there.
  
  The things that are happening there are highly uncommon in US (and world) politics. How often do one term presidents re contest for presidency? How often are candidates heavily challenged in court? How often does a sitting president appear to have dementia? How often is the person apparently forced to not run again? Did Kamala threaten to invoke the 25th amendment if he didn’t resign? How often does a ‘black’ woman stand for president? How common is an assassination attempt on a presidential candidate?
  
  There are just so many uncommon and interesting events occurring in the US that it is hard to be disinterested. Couple that with the obvious fact that NZ is heavily influenced by US culture, many trends such as DEI directly impact us here and most NZers are heavily impacted financially through investments in the US economy. I don’t think it is unreasonable at all for us to discuss events in the US.

    Even if the rules say the speaker is completely impartial, its not like the ‘G’ is no longer part of National and doen’t talk to anyone.
    
    I would think the speaker can solict advice and guidence from whomever they choose. If Hipkins wanted to make suggestions to big G I am sure he could too. G might even take it on board.

Hubby doesn’t play or follow any sport. He must be the only man born and bred in NZ that has NEVER seen a game of rugby (and he went to PNBHS for 5 years!!!!!).
But last night, after I switched the Tele to the last 5 minutes of the men’s triathalon (and tried to explain who was who and what was happening), he got vaguely interested…and when Yee swept past Wilde, he became positively animated for a few seconds.

The police do a great job, then the judges let them off.

‘Green MP Julie Anne Genter has been found in contempt of the House for “intimidating” behaviour directed at another MP and it has been recommended she be censured.

A report just released by the Privileges Committee, which assessed Genter’s actions in the House in May, recommends the Rongotai MP be “censured by the House for acting in a manner that could have the effect of intimidating a member of the House acting in the discharge of their duty”.’

‘Kamala Harris’s Joe Biden Problem’
Victor Davis Hanson

A selected Kamala Harris will become the only presidential nominee of the two parties in the modern era, who has never once entered, much less won, a single primary.

And it is hard to think of a single statement or position that Kamala Harris has not suddenly disowned or now rejected.

It is near miraculous how for three-and-a-half years Kamala Harris was the Biden administration’s megaphone for its hard-left craziness.

She was the go-to emissary to the radical Democratic base. Yet now she seems to be copying Trump on secure borders, legal only immigration, support for law enforcement, and fracking.

Still, when the Kamala hysteria subsides, Harris may well suffer the fate of Michael Dukakis, as James Pierson recently noted.

After the giddiness of the July 1988 Democratic convention, the Democratic nominee Michael Dukakis was leading incumbent president George H.W. Bush in the Gallup poll by 17 points.

Yet he was crushed by Bush in November by a 7.8 points. Why and how?

Bush’s politico Lee Atwater in series of brutal but accurate ads (the tank fiasco ad, the Willie Horton revolving door ad, the polluted Boston Harbor ad, etc.) accurately redefined Dukakis (a far more capable, kind, and well-spoken official than Kamala Harris) as an unapologetic Massachusetts far-left liberal.

And by the way, the 1988 election was the last time Republicans won 51 percent of the presidential vote. Apparently, the Republican party grandees decided never again to “lower” themselves to the Atwater level. And so, they have gone on to lose “nobly” seven of the last eight popular votes.

One of the most demagogic Harrisisms was her 2020 claim that the pseudo-martyr Jussie Smollett was a victim of American racism and homophobia. Here is what she gushed:

“Jussie Smollett is one of the kindest, most gentle human beings I know. I’m praying for his quick recovery. This was an attempted modern-day lynching. No one should have to fear for their life because of their sexuality or color of their skin. We must confront this hate.”

The Left until late June used to refer to her as our “border czar.” And indeed, she insisted the nonexistent border was “secure,” even as her own administration unapologetically welcomed an influx of 10 million illegal aliens.

In her role, Harris envisioned dismantling ICE, opposed the wall, and did not consider illegal entry into the U.S. a crime.

Americans were talked down to by Harris and told not to say, “illegal alien”—as she ritually introduced herself with her pronouns “she/her”.

Harris was an early vocal supporter of the green new deal that would have bankrupted the middle class.

The word cop Harris also sermonized us not to utter the phrase “radical Islamic terrorism”—as if, say, the 9/11 killers were not radical, were not Islamic, and were not terrorists?

(Just this week at the Olympics when the Israeli national anthem was played, radical pro-Hamas crowds waved their Palestinian flags, while wildly saluting and chanting “Heil Hitler”).

In the recent pre-July 21st world of Kamala Harris, there should be no private health care, but certainly free government coverage for illegal aliens.

If you currently legally own a supposed “assault weapon” the government has a right nonetheless to force (“mandated”) you to sell it to them.

For Harris, a country $36 trillion in debt, with $1.2 trillion in interest payments per year, in its seventh decade of affirmative action, ever increasing DEI mandates and virtual quotas, and over $20 trillion spent on Great Society poverty programs should nevertheless go ahead with racial reparations—a policy that even Californians reject.

All abortions are to be permitted on demand to the moment of birth. (We are not told by Harris the method of terminating the baby in passage through the birth canal.)

Police should be defunded, and thousands of imprisoned criminals released. Harris vocally supported California’s disastrous de facto legalization of shoplifting and “misdemeanor” theft of items less than $950.

She sought to raise bail funds for the 2020 rioters, many of them arrested for street violence, assault, and looting.

Her most infamous demagoguery was her CBS interview with Steven Colbert when she boasted that the ongoing 2020 protests (quite violent despite her fact-checkers’ efforts to “contextualize” Harris’s vitriol) would not cease:

“They’re not going to stop. This is a movement, I’m telling you. They’re not going to stop, and everyone beware, because they’re not going to stop. They’re not going to stop before Election Day in November and they’re not going to stop after Election Day. They’re not going to let up and they should not, and we should not.”

Note how Harris called the Antifa-BLM orchestrated violence a “movement”. Note her threats that the turmoil would not stop and “should not” stop. Note her warning “beware”. Note how she shamelessly linked the leftwing protests to the 2020 Election Day, emphasizing their assumed political utility.

In 2020, the Left found old Joe Biden from Scranton a useful “moderate” and “unifying” veneer for a hard-core, Obama third-term agenda—thanks to Biden’s long senate career and his Delaware pseudo-working man schtick.

But Harris was first a Bay-Area leftist, second a California hard-core progressive, and third a failed 2020 primary candidate who tried to vie with Bernie Sanders for the Democratic socialist base—on the assumption she had a harder left record in the Senate than Sanders himself.

So, the 2024 Harris campaign may again emulate the 2020 formula of keeping the gaffe-prone, cognitively challenged candidate in the basement.

Like Joe Biden, Harris’s deer-in-the-headlights moments are not sporadic but characteristic. And so the only remedy is as much seclusion from the public as possible.

And her handlers, as in the case of Biden, may again count on the 2020 revolutionary changes in state ballot laws to ensure that nearly 70 percent of voters do not cast ballots on Election Day.

But in 2024 they will not be able again to veneer the hard-core leftwing Harris and repackage her as a middle-class centrist.

There was never any such thing as good ol’ moderate Kamala from Berkeley.’

Sokmething’s wrong in a Radio NZ web site report about a man saying the Maori Battalion rugby team in World War 2 should receive more recognition.

The various battalions of the NZ Army had rugby teams in World War 2.

Herbert Manupiri says his father, George Te Ngahuru Pitman (Manupiri), played for a Maori Battalion side against a Welsh team during the war.

RNZ reports “his [Manupiri’s] dad was shot in Gallipoli and left in Crete where he was cared for by locals.” Then he became a prisoner of war.

Gallipoli? That was World War 1.

Internet journos and posters are excited about 51-year-old Yusuf Dikec, of Turkey, winning a silver medal in a team air- pistol event at the Olympic Games.

Journos and posters commented on his shooting stance, with a hand in pocket. Yet many other air-pistol shooters use this balanced stance.

At least one person thought he looked like a hit man. Others commented that Dikec had ear plugs rather than over-head ear protectors. Many other competitors wore these plugs. Air pistols aren’t loud.

A poster noted that Dikec had “prescription glasses” rather than a special shooting lens for his dominant eye.

You can bet the shooting glasses Dikec is wearing in the photographs weren’t bought from the reading-spec rack at a Parisian stall.

The third issue is about Act MPs wearing their party logos on their lapels. It would not be an issue at all if Act MP Cameron Luxton and National’s James Meager had not objected last week to Te Pāti Māori MP Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke having a party logo on her laptop. She had to cover it up. When the issue was raised this week at the business committee, it was decided to extend it to all logos – including the Act broaches that can be easily seen on television coverage of Parliament. Former Speaker Trevor Mallard gave Act dispensation a few years ago. Brownlee, as is his right, has decided there should be one rule for all. In this case, Brownlee should do nothing except enforce the rule and allow no member of the Act Party to ask or answer questions until all its MPs comply. Their choice.
