Robert McCulloch makes a very serious accusation against Finance Minister Willis on his blog Down To Earth Kiwi of corruption. He says that she is doing the bidding of the Oz Banks (reducing their capital requirements) for a job after politics and that Orr was pushed because he wouldn’t do it. Heady stuff.

    McCulloch is no lefty. He was and is a principal adviser to Roger Douglas. He is a strident critic of leftist BS, woke and the path successive governments have taken over the last 20 years or more.

      I think McCullough is talking nonsense.
      
      Spent a couple of years at 2 of our large banks recently. One courtesy of the BS11 requirements from RBNZ. BS11 being the recent RBNZ created rules around outsourcing.
      
      Frankly, BS11 was ill thought through and an exceedingly expensive way to address a tiny risk.
      
      Our RBNZ has done some dumb stuff in the last period. For instance, our capital requirements are one of the most conservative on the planet. Reducing them to a reasonable level increases the ability of smaller competitors to grow. Excessive capital requirements also translates to increased costs for our banks and thus us.
      
      If the RBNZ did a decent job it would work with the Commerce Commission to address the excessive profits they make out of NZ.

    I find his past columns reveal him as an independent thinker, especially after Robertson lit the fuse on inflation with his handouts to his constituents. All the usual pack of economists, including one prominent ex-reserve banker, predicted in unison a transitory response to dumping $65billion into the NZ economy. Prof McCullough did not and guess what? We are still suffering from the effects of Orr & Robertson’s bad economic management about 4 years later.

  It’s pretty clear a corporate cabal run the National Party on behalf of vested interests, including the main monopolies and oligopolies that dominate the country. A key tenet of corporate culture is to ‘swim with tide’. So rather than stand up to Iwi control of resources and their growing power to extort businesses and citizens, National has decided to ‘swim with the tide’ and invite Iwi inside the tent and join in the generalised looting as New Zealand continues its managed decline. Any and all costs are simply booked up to the taxpayers, and at local level – the ratepayers. Property developers, banksters, Iwi power brokers, bureaucrats….all are making a killing out of ordinary Kiwi’s as debt climbs, power prices soar, and annual Council rate rises hit nosebleed levels.

    The Maorification of NZ is to keep society in general off balanced. The process got well underway during the Key government.
    
    NZ is a basically an economy unit to be exploited by international capital, assisted by quislings like the National & Labo parties. It makes sense for them that general society to be unorganized in opposition against international capital. Instead be focused on preventing the division of society via Maorification.

    Precisely. You don’t need to have access to the minutes of a secret meeting held in a smokey room to understand who is really in control. All you need to do is look at the decisions that are made and who benefits the most from those decisions.
    
    Interests are always being served in political decisions, it is just that in a “democracy” the interests actually being served must be obscured, usually by a propaganda campaign whereby the people are convinced that their interests are the same as those driving the policies.

  I believe Willis will be judged poorly by history.
  
  Despite all their promises on the election campaign, they have not reduced the public sector employee level and don’t appear to be taking too many hard decisions (although the equal pay one was brought to her by Van Velden and is hard politically but has to be done.)
  
  National did bring in the tax bracket change promised but also need to deal to the age for superannuation qualification. It needs to be raised; albeit slowly.
  
  This country needs a Minister of Finance with the courage and conviction of Sir Roger Douglas.

    He has started training his guns on Willis and Luxon and pointing out connections to the NZ Initiative and the big Aussie banks. Luxon is a devoted disciple of Key and where did Key end up post his stint as PM? Only Chairman of ANZ bank.
    McCulloch is now upsetting the establishment and the vested interests that so desperately want to be in control so they can maintain the current status quo, hence the backlash.

        Yes it is absolutely clear. Potaka has said they are just looking to clarify the role of the tribunal. Secondly it is set to run until Christmas, do we really think any government, especially this one, will introduce controversial changes in an election year.

      I think the outcome will be the changes we all want but some doubt they will be made. The reason for my confidence there’ll be changes, is that if it’s done and dusted or even in train heading into Xmas then it’ll be the number 1 topic of discussion over the BBQ season. That could be a disaster or a blessing heading into an election. You wouldn’t want it to go the wrong way.

  I wonder why we are so unpatriotic as a country? Saffas (I’m married to one) have been through so much shit yet they are still staunch South Africans and some are even moving back there. But we are so fickle and willing to put the boot into NZ every opportunity we get. I find it quite depressing tbh. It’s like we are raised to feel ashamed of our country yet it’s not like AU doesn’t have significant problems which are bound to get worse with another term of a left government. Aussies are way more patriotic and proud of their country than us, what makes them like this compared to us?

      I’m not basing it on this blog, I’m basing it on hundreds of articles on people complaining about NZ, the way we all flee when things get a bit tough. I have also been dark about NZ, maybe it is as simple as the division we have here. It’s been happening for a while but accelerated particularly during the Ardern government where we’re now made to feel like we don’t really belong here and only Maori are people of this land. I guess also having Australia next door with such better paying jobs and it being so easy to immigrate too also doesn’t help.

    I think it’s a hangover of cultural cringe; we were always primed to be embarrassed about our nation and culture, and that was an exploitable chink that the Left could pour through in school with all the wank we’ve become so familiar with: racism, de-colonialism, etc, etc. A people already feeling embarrassed about themselves lapped up that shit:

    Sure, there’s the occasional outburst of pride when some Kiwi hits the global news, usually in sports, but that’s the flip-side of the same coin.

  I stopped reading when I got down to several 1000s have left the last 2 years, this is crap, 1000s have left ever since Peter’s delivered us Ardern, it took Key 4 years to turn those numbers around. In Feb the numbers had slowed slightly, but no mention of that, just a point lie this has only been happening under this government

  I don’t think NZers know the level of their decline. They refuse to see it.
  
  After moving to Brisbane, the difference in schooling for my son has become starkly evident. He was in “intermediate” in NZ, first year of it.
  Over here he started secondary school, which they start earlier in Australia, during the second year of NZ intermediate.
  We went to the parent teacher interviews last week. I was shown his maths work. Pages and pages of concepts such as Cartesian planes, basic facts.
  Compare that to his last year in New Zealand school? For the entire year, 4 pages of maths work. Most incomplete. That entire year read a write off.
  One of the teachers in Australia was a NZer, she said that the concept of intermediate still taught 11-12 year olds a primary curriculum while the Australians taught it within secondary. So their kids are already preparing for the concepts of examinations and external assessments. New Zealand kids are just being taught how many tinnies Rangi has after he sells 2 of them…
  
  About 80% of the daily interactions I have with people in Brisbane are New Zealanders. From the person I just bought a mountain bike from to my property manager. Not one of them is ever considering coming back.

  The thing that should worry the politicians here is that this departure seems to be more about people giving up on their future in New Zealand, irrespective of whatever parties are in government.
  
  In my lifetime, when discussions of our emigration popped up I usually had people shrugging their shoulders and saying they’ll hang on until “their side” gets back into power.
  
  That doesn’t seem to be the case now, post C-19. Clearly they’re lacking confidence in this government – and many of them must have voted for it – but they’re also effectively saying that they lack confidence that a Labour-led government would be any better, at a minimum, and likely will be worse.

  0ver 60,000 leaving a year – a few months back it was “only” 40,000 a year.
  
  Considering there are less and less people left to leave, the number should be going down – not up!
  
  40,000 was 120 people a day. Now that’s 160 a day.
  
  In terms Luxon can understand, that’s a whole Airbus A320 full of people flying west on one way tickets. Every day.
  
  Many of those are productive, high skilled people. Many will also be public servant types – but likely useful ones who are actually in demand the world over. Only a small number will be future 501s.
  
  There are less than 200,000 net taxpayers in NZ. Every day we’re losing a bunch of those. There are less and less productive people treading water to keep more and more tax consumers afloat.

“Ken Turner, the council observer on the Watercare board, said the water company had good practices in place, which picked up the offending.
He said the problem was that the council and council-controlled organisations (CCOs) had a preferred supplier system for contractors and suppliers, leading to a “workaround” where small suppliers were asked to do work and bill it through the principal contractor.
This created a hole that allowed someone to calculate a scam and rip-off Watercare, Turner said.

Chambers said the suppliers paid the invoices and then on-charged Watercare, adding a margin.”

If they had good practices in place, this wouldn’t have happened. It will be rife throughout the public sector where main contractors cant actually do the work they are supposed to (for a variety of reasons) and the procurement process will be to difficult or incompetent to bring the small guys on board so they just let them invoice straight through the bigger companies. Not only does this result in false invoices like this case, there is also no scrutiny of the “valid” invoices to ensure they are fair and reasonable as they just go straight through for payment or are signed off by someone who has no idea what they are looking at and takes the path of least resistance in the name of “efficiency”.

The other point not addressed here is that the larger contractors are allowed to make margin (likely 10%) for simply passing through an invoice, resulting in higher costs because the original department are to lazy to properly on-board suppliers. This will be all through the public sector and a leading cause of why costs are so high and your taxes wasted.

It’s easy to fix, but it’s hard to cut through the army of blue and green hairs that are more interested in feelings and working from home than controling costs.

It’s 101 for controlling costs in a business, but doesn’t seem to be important when it’s other people’s money.

Deloittes probably charged watercare $500k for what I just solved in 5 minutes and a handful of paragraphs. I’m really in the wrong industry…

  The woman reacted the way she did in response to seeing the kid, likely much older than five, rifling through her baby bag as she played with her child on the play equipment.
  
  People watched recently as the family of a young gentleman, Karmelo Anthony, who stabbed a fellow student to death, raise $500,000 and receive support from large sections of the black community – so the white community have said ‘fuck it, if you can act like that then we will to”and have raised nearly a million dollars for the playground woman.
  
  There’s a new phrase which has entered the US lexicon very recently – black fatigue.
  
  It appears whitey has decided he and she have had enough, they don’t want to live like this – and they don’t give a shit anymore about being labelled as racists (they’ll get called that anyway, regardless of what they do). They just don’t want to put up with vile black behaviour any longer.

      I very much doubt that you would have the same reaction if Shiloh Hendrix was Black, the kid and the guy filming where both White, and the phrase in question was “cracker” or “honky” or any other “racial slur” directed at a White person. In fact, nobody would be talking about it.

The woman who was supposed to have her life ruined by the mob is instead on her way to potentially becoming a millionaire.
    
    I’m not so confident that Cancel Kulture is dead, but this certainly is pushback like I’ve never seen before.
    
    The point is that the only way to put an end to this routine — the routine where the outrage mob mobilizes to destroy someone’s life — is to disincentivize the routine. And the only way to disincentivize that behavior is to reward the person who is being targeted.

  This incident is a big picture incident. It could be the White community’s version of Rosa Parks. And I am deadly serious when I say that. In other words, the day when White people found out that it was OK to stop deferring to others out of fear of the consequences, collectivise in their common interest, and stop being hounded and denigrated by another group of people who hate them, yet are being brought in to live amongst us.
  
  Yes, White people are still the significant majority in the Anglosphere and Europe. But, increasingly on an institutional and systemic level, we are consistently shown very little respect (or worse), our manifold historical accomplishments are repudiated, and we are expected to always defer to groups of people who have by and large never contributed anything to the Western world.
  
  This Somali immigrant (who I believe is either a convicted sex offender, or is currently being processed for the same by the courts, hanging out at a park filming young people) was obviously hoping to make hay out of this incident, but it hasn’t turned out like he thought. He probably expected that he was going to be the next George Floyd and cash in on the lucrative anti-White grievance industry.
  
  The expectation was that he would post this footage, become a hero, and destroy Shiloh Hendrix’s life: all for calling him a name. The “mob” is also making death threats against her, forcing her to relocate. This is the vengeful mindset towards White people.
  
  Compare this with the reaction by the “Black community” to the murder of White kid Austen Metcalfe by Black teenager Karmelo Anthony. They raised a similar amount for the murderer, Anthony is out on bail, and the comments on social media reveal the vengeful and hateful attitude Blacks tend to have towards White people. They don’t see it as a tragic incident that should be denounced, they see it as a fellow Black getting one up on “da White Man.” Meanwhile, they claim that Metcalfe deserved to be murdered for asking Anthony to leave, even though Anthony was, for some reason, armed with a lethal weapon at a high school athletics event and was sitting in a area reserved for a particular group of athletes.

National have scuttled an independent firearms registry review in keeping with their wet woke corporate owners.

“Today I announced that ACT has formally invoked the “agree to disagree” provisions of its coalition agreement in relation to the firearms registry.

I want to explain why.

Earlier this month, I asked Cabinet to consider that the recent review of the firearms registry did not meet the commitment in ACT’s coalition agreement. I also asked that a more thorough and independent review be conducted in the 2025/26 financial year. Unfortunately, these proposals were rejected by National.

I also sought Cabinet agreement to delay the upcoming ‘activating circumstance’ that would apply to ammunition purchases from June 2025. There is currently no clear definition of ammunition in the legislation, creating confusion. Pushing back the date to December 2026 would have provided time to build public trust in the registry and ensure clarity in the law. This recommendation was also rejected.

The ACT Party’s coalition agreement includes a commitment to review the firearms registry to determine whether it is effectively improving public safety. However, the review that was conducted fell short of that standard.

The purpose of the review was to establish a clear evidence base, covering public safety impacts, government costs, compliance burdens for licensed firearms owners, and international comparisons. In my view, the review failed to deliver on these objectives.

Although the review acknowledged there was limited data available to assess the registry’s impact, it makes only limited use of domestic data, such as enforcement trends prior to the registry, or the experience of the 20 percent of licence holders already registered. Nor did it meaningfully examine international examples that could have provided further insight.These are not gaps in available information but gaps in the analysis which was undertaken.

One of the key conclusions – that the registry is justified if it prevents just two fatalities a year – is speculative and unsupported by evidence. Without a clear model of risk reduction or causal link to public safety outcomes, that claim is difficult to defend.

The review focused narrowly on operational costs to government but gave little weight to future changes, such as the inclusion of a dealers registry – projected to cost an additional $20 million – and the ongoing compliance costs for responsible firearms owners.

Significantly, the review also failed to account for privacy concerns. Given past breaches of firearms owners’ personal data, it is troubling that the review did not assess the risks associated with centralising sensitive information in the registry. This despite the fact I am aware of six breaches of data since 2019.”

A vote for National is a vote against individual and property rights.

See that Thomas Manch at Stuff has limited self awareness.
Writes all about the ‘Government to work on social media ban for under-16s, despite ACT disagreement’, when ACT’s disgreement was based on need for more work.
‘The coalition is falling to bits’ was last month’s news. Try and keep up Thomas.

  The left is desperately searching for signs of cracks in the coalition. What leftists don’t understand is that it’s possible for adults to have different opinions without having to hate each other, but rather to seek common ground and, if necessary, agree to disagree.
