A potentially very serious issue that is that will affect every NZer seems to have gone very quiet. It is who is going to direct and co-ordinate the next pandemic response? Will it be solely the NZ government or will they just be taking orders from the WHO, that Chinese controlled corrupted organisation. From government press releases, https://www.beehive.govt.nz/release/nz-subject-pandemic-treaty-full-national-interest-test ,it seems NZ won’t sign, but that final decision does not seem to have been made. Is there behind the scenes pressure being applied? What is the Opposition’s policy on this as sooner or later, they will get back into power, with or without Mr Hipkins? GM modification of grass is a no-no for the Greens, but for human viruses it seems OK. Where are their protests outside the Chinese embassy? Ms Ardern and Clark are all for it, another reason to say no.

The WHO has run out of money since the US pulled out. Will NZ be funding them to make up the shortfall? There is still gain of function research going on, perfecting mutated viruses. What has WHO done about it? That experimentation causing Covid wasn’t enough. Shouldn’t that GE mutation be banned like say nerve gases? Or is that because the Chinese are doing it, that is alright?

Has it ever been officially admitted the Covid was caused by the Chinese lab leak, where the experimentation was funded by US money? Doing stuff that they couldn’t do in US as it was deemed too dangerous, even in a lot more secure facility than the Chinese had. The rejection of Matt Ridley’s paper https://rationaloptimistsociety.substack.com/p/the-evidence-suggests-covid-19-came suggests that this is something the gatekeepers don’t even want discussed.

The next world war or even just regional conflict is likely to be presaged not by bombs but viruses. That is a lot more of an existential threat than Climate Boiling (TM) ever was. And yet just so many unanswered questions. Why is that?

  Has it ever been officially admitted that research staff from the Wuhan lab, were present in the World Military Games accommodation block doing “research”? One whistleblower from the lab came forward admitting that is wasn’t a lab leak, but a deliberate spread outside of the lab.

    That Herald article has to be a textbook case of a story with what is politely called “Low epistemic confidence’. More directly, the chance of it being false are >99%.
    Consider what they claim, a political activist makes claims about science which they have no expertise in, and government plans for which they have no official access. The only bits of that story that can be verified were always public knowledge anyway.
    And the media call him a “Whistleblower” rather than “Political activist” or just “Some guy”.
    You are probably aware that there are other theorist who agree that the virus was released deliberately in Wuhan during the Military Games but it was the other side that did it.
    Doesn’t that make more sense? Instead of germ bombing in your own territory when there are military foreigners in town, why not send your own military officers operating under official cover to germ bomb the oppositions’ town?
    This is a classic problem with these “low epistemic confidence stories” (AKA Conspiracy theories) with exactly the same information you can construct another equal or better story that runs in exactly the opposite direction.

      Actually my research didn’t involve the Herald article as the Herald has a 99% habit of printing whatever it is told to print. I only included it as an example of how even mainstream media is starting to get closer to the truth.
      
      And anyone attacking a point of view by using the term “Conspiracy theories”, indicates that you don’t research and come up with reason debate, you just try and discredit.
      
      More directly, the chance of it being false are >99%. Why greater than 99%, why not greater than 97%? Could you please post your calculations?
      
      Consider what they claim, a political activist makes claims about science which they have no expertise in… A whistleblower that worked for Wuhan labs has more expertise has 10,000% more expertise than you.
      
      You are probably aware that there are other theorist who agree that the virus was released deliberately in Wuhan during the Military Games but it was the other side that did it.
      
      Who is the “other side” in this context?

  I’d be surprised if any NZ govt gave away that sovereignty to the WHO. If nothing else there would surely be noise from the Waitangi Tribunal, TPM, lefty supporters of everything Maori and indigenous that ceding any aspect of sovereignty to WHO was not honouring the ToW.

    Instead of looking at what was happening in NZ and then applying some Form 3 biology, he was, by his own admission in a radio interview, “constantly on the phone with people around the world”.
    Now he’s on the WHO panel that is writing the rules for this “treaty”.

    Oh, they will. Someone at MFAT will tell them that it doesn’t really mean anything, and its not binding…. until one day it is, like the indigenous people’s declarations, or the Net Zero “commitments”… These things always creep in, step by step, non-binding declarations, followed by voluntary agreements, followed by legal commitments to the international “consensus” that strangely enough only involve taxing western countries, and paying subsidies to everyone else.

  “Decisions about how New Zealand responds to any health emergency are made in Wellington, not Geneva, and we are determined to preserve our sovereign decision-making ability,” Mr Peters says.
  
  “While negotiations on the draft Treaty have been completed, there are a number of steps remaining – which are likely to take some years – before the New Zealand Government will take a decision on whether or not we should sign up.”

  More than two years ago I downloaded the MOH’s official Flu Pandemic Plan because I knew it was going to be corrupted sooner or later.
  
  The document was created in 2002 to pull together what had existed in myriad places. They even hauled an academic historian, Geoffrey Rice, who had written what is now considered the standard text on the Spanish Flu of 1918-19, Black November
  
  Back in 2021 I read the whole MOH plan. It compresses over a century of learning about how to deal with flu pandemics:
  – test, track, quarantine is the standard approach.
  – the healthy population left to go about their business, with precautions on excessive contact (i.e. big events)
  – protection for whoever is the most vulnerable to the specific type of flu, but understanding that most of the population is not at risk, given the history of flu pandemics.
  – protection including therapies and treatments to allow the patients’ immune systems to fight back.
  Moreover:
  – the word lockdown does not occur in its 198 pages.
  – no measures at all like the C-19 lockdowns.
  – no passports for vaccines even if one is produced: emphasis on test, track, quarantine combined with buildup of natural immunity at each wave of the flu runs through the population.

    BTW, the Spanish flu was not actually a flu. It was a bacterial meningitis, spread by medical misadventure in an attempt to create a vaccine for soldiers in the trench, and which spread via returning soldiers.
    
    It being bacterial meningitis is on the CDC website. to understand how it happened, you need to do a bit of research but the term ‘coverup’ springs to mind.
    
    The whole profile of the flu and the IFR figures changed somewhere around ~2016, due to a massive serology program in Vietnam.
    Prior to then, there was a general assumption that 10-20% of flu and other respiratory infections were asymptomatic.
    
    So in NZ, with an IFR of say 0.05%, and in a year with 500 deaths, it implied,and was accepted that just under 1,000,000 got the flu with symptoms and 100,000 were asymptomatic.
    
    The study in Vietnam showed that in fact between 65% and 85% (75%) were asymptomatic. This study was accepted world wide, including by our own MOH, and was published on their website, long before Covid.
    
    So the actual IFR is not 0.05%. it is between 0.01% and 0.015%. So in a year where 500 die, the bulk of the population were exposed to the flu, but only 1,000,000 had symptoms.
    
    Furthermore the Vietnam study showed that the 65% to 85% of asymptomatic infections did not vary with flu strain or variations.
    
    Flu infections are seasonal and fit a bell curve, with the bulk (>65%) occurring over a 10 week period. And the bulk of those (>65%, so 43%) occur over about 10 – 14 days. Running the numbers, you could have days where if you tested every single person, every day, you would see daily infection rates of tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands.
    
    So you can see, if you did wide scale testing of the flu, as they did for Covid, how you can induce nationwide panic and fear. And Covid in NZ has the same IFR as the flu.
    
    The IFR is, in my opinion, an outdated marker, given that 75% (avg) of infections are asymptomatic. The stats from the Vietnam study show that the bulk of any population encounter the flu. What matter most to people, is the EFR, i.e. Exposure Fatality Rate. If you get on a plane, go to a party, attended a wedding where someone has the flu (which you most likely will get whether you go or not), what are your chances of dying from it?
    
    A more useful calculation is multiply the population by the EFR and that is the death rate. 5,000,000 * .01% = 500.

      1918 Pandemic (H1N1 virus) The 1918 influenza pandemic was the most severe pandemic in recent history. It was caused by an H1N1 virus with genes of avian origin. Although there is not universal consensus regarding where the virus originated, it spread worldwide during 1918-1919.
      
      So tell us then, what was this bacteria you speak of? Remember identification and classification of bacteria in 1918 was very thoroughly scientifically studied and described.

There’s an important defence and foreign relations conference at present in Singapore. Hardly mentioned in our media. The Herald has a French article but nothing about NZ’s participation. There is an announcement that NZ plans to get to 2% of GDP on defence by 2030. Probably “hopes” rather than “plans”.

Reassuring US allies on Saturday, US Defence Secretary Hegseth said the Indo-Pacific was “America’s priority theatre”, pledging to ensure “China cannot dominate us – or our allies and partners”. He reiterated Trump’s vow that “China will not invade [Taiwan] on his watch”. He called on US partners in the region to ramp up spending on their militaries and “quickly upgrade their own defences”. “Asian allies should look to countries in Europe for a newfound example,” Mr Hegseth said, citing pledges by Nato members to move toward Trump’s spending target of five per cent of GDP. “Deterrence doesn’t come on the cheap.”

Aiming for 2% in 5 years time is woeful. This National-led government is, as usual, all mouth and no trousers. Collins makes noises and NZF and Act praise her but 2% by 2030 is way short of what is needed. Not only do we need new, expensive, equipment but our manpower problem is critical. But the Coalition is much better than Labour and previous National governments which ran Defence into the ground. Note that the UK has committed to 2.5% by 2027 and perhaps 3% by 2030. Also woeful. To keep peace you’ve got to be prepared for war. And as Hegseth says it’s expensive. Sad but it’s got to be done.

      The answer is that, because we are hypocrites, we are guilty of exactly the same behaviour as those we designate as our adversaries (although on a much larger scale), but for us it’s a necessary policy aimed at ensuring an effective defense (which, in truth, as the weaker party, is their motivation), whereas for them, it’s a sign they are preparing for aggression (when in truth, aggression is actually our motivation, not theirs).

Generally it is invited to help nations being threatened, invaded or infiltrated by mafia regimes.     America is objectively the biggest threat to world peace. Maybe people support that, and good for them. But don’t expect me to believe them when they try to tell me black is white and down is up. Just look at the numbers: how many foreign “military interventions” have been undertaken by China in the last 40 or 50 years? Few, if any. Even Russian military deployments tend to be in response to US involvement in the places it occurs (Georgia, Syria and Ukraine being prominent examples). By contrast, the US seems to always be involved, whether overtly or covertly, in most of the world’s trouble spots. And this is just the direct stuff, to say nothing of the destabilising influence of the CIA and various state-proxy NGOs around the world, whose business is to subvert countries with regimes unfavourable to US interests.

        Which ones, and what examples led to your conclusion that they are?
        
        It seems to me that the US’s active military aggression and political subversion is empirically observable and well documented, whereas the active military aggression and political subversion you invoke regarding other countries (while not entirely absent, to be sure) is largely hypothetical, speculative, and comes right out of State Department and Pentagon press releases and neocon think tanks.
        
        In other words, I’m talking about what is known and real, while you and others are talking about what is unknown but could one day be real, if certain circumstances and conditions come to be.

  Agree Cassandra, an ongoing mystery for me is the ignoring of not just an ability to perhaps offer resistance to an external threat, the running down of a cadre of people trained to respond to any existential threat by a service of persons suitably trained and equipped to deal with any and all threats is woeful in extreme.
  I understand Switzerland has a community service requirement for all males as a military operative in a population almost double NZ yet GDP per person is double, Is personal responsibility and citizenship a motivator here.

    NZ on the other hand is doing all it can to disarm its populace and remove firearms from the said populace.
    So that approach can’t work.

    I strongly agree with the citizen involvement community service angle but it has to be organized correctly.
    Is there, for example, a clear pathway for a person doing community service to directly contribute to an on going operation in a Pacific Island 2,000km away? Or is he going to be just marching around the drill hall for a few days and walking up and down railroad tracks with a shot gun a flask of tea and sandwiches brought from home?

  If America wants to maintain its military dominance over the world, perhaps it should spend its own money, rather than nations like New Zealand forking out billions we don’t have to buy American-made weapons. I mean, it’s quite clear what the motivation is (ensuring America’s hegemony and getting others to help them fund it), but it beats me why I should care if China were to ever invade Taiwan. Even if we take the US’s warnings literally, if someone can explain why I should prefer American dominance of the Pacific over Chinese dominance, I’d be delighted.

      Exactly: arming up in response to threats declared for that purpose means borrowing lots of money at interest and spending it on extremely expensive armaments, which require replenishment as they are deployed. How many people still don’t understand this equation, and fall hook line and sinker for the moral pretexts thrown around, is incredible really. Peace is bad for the economy (or perhaps more accurately, the masters of the economy) which is why Trump met so much resistance the first time around with his “end the foreign wars” platform.

      Monopoly rules, monopoly prices.
      That’s not just all of the commercial markets but the military, political and cultural markets as well.
      Does all of our military have to come through the Pentagon, all of our finance through Wall Street, all of our ideas from The Ivy League, all of our culture from Hollywood?

Perhaps most consequential strike of the Ukrainian war as Ukraine sneaks a few hundred AI drones into Russia in false tops of transport trucks with unwitting Russian drivers paid to drive them next to airbases where they took out 41 planes, 34% of Russia’s Strategic bomber airforce in one day in 4 separate airbases up to 4000km from Ukraine.

Estimated ~$10billion total damage – if they could buy replacements but most planes no longer in production and a priceless A50 AWAC (radar reconnaissance plane) also gone – Russia has perhaps got no more than one or two more in service.

I hope the Pentagon is sending them a big thank-you note.

But perhaps the biggest impact is that Ukraine now clearly has tech capacity to parachute drop AI drones from some of their larger drones to take out distributed targets – like bridge truss struts, oil tank farms, refineries, chemical and power plants, train engines, ammo depots and ship hulls at water level etc. These are difficult targets to critically damage with single smallish warheads on cheap GPS targeted long range large winged drones but being able to drop 100x tiny $2000 AI multicopter drones that have been taught exactly what to target to within a meter can do immense damage. Russia will be in big trouble if Ukraine can produce them in high numbers.

  These sorts of ninja stealth sabotage raids are never going to win the war for Ukraine, any more than SAS and Commando raids could have won WWII for Britain.
  Special forces stealth attacks have their place but this is a long term war of attrition, conventional weapons like artillery missiles and bombers will always inflict more damage than stealth raids.
  Everything that Ukraine has, Russia has and more, they are inflicting more damage, absolutely and proportional, they will win.

Treasury wants the government to prop up NZ’s struggling universities reports Centrist.

“Demand for tertiary education and training is currently forecast to exceed the volume able to be funded”, said Treasury. You have to wonder what is wrong with Treasury officials who write sentences like that – and no, I’m not just talking about their clumsy English. “Demand” for tertiary education is artificially cranked up by the universities themselves spending millions on marketing – as they’re expected to do under NZ’s unfortunate “bums-on-seats” university funding model.

If some of our universities really are in danger of going under (as Treasury claims), maybe they should spend less on “decolonization”. If they’re not prepared to do that, let them fail – we have too many universities as it is. And if Treasury officials are going to write such incoherent nonsense, maybe a few heads should roll there too.

Despite being in group 3 – supposedly at heightened risk of the coof – I was very angry at how the government dealt with the pandemic: lockdowns and border closures have done incalculable damage to NZ. And those restrictions deprived us of contact with, and support from, our children and with siblings overseas, just when we needed it most.

        Why obsess over skin colour though?
        
        Why support Israel? They have a right to exist and they are surrounded by religious mafia regimes that hate Israel and the Jews basically for irrational religious reasons. Leave Israel alone and there would be no war. Those ruling Gaza could have acted in good faith and built a prosperous and peaceful civilisation.       Not a single media outlet seems willing to ask the simple question of why not a single neighbouring Arab country will accept any Palestinians. Egypt for example is right on the southern border but has built a fence even Israel would be in awe of.
      
      Could it be because
      – Palestinians in Jordan tried to overthrow the monarchy
      – Palestinians in Lebanon started a civil war and turned the country to majority Muslim from Christian
      – etc etc

        You’re putting the cart before the horse here. Why should they have to accept them, when the Palestinians have already got their own territory, notwithstanding that the Israelis forcing them out of it? The question only arises because they are being ethnically cleansed.

        Like getting to other countries both Muslim and not, getting another citizenship, getting educated and trained in a trade or occupation.

        Because the citizens in Gaza were Egyptians.
        
        Prior to the 6-Day war Gaza was Egyptian territory.
        
        When Israel did the land-for-peace deal Egypt declined to have Gaza back.
        
        In the same manner that the West Bank was Jordanian territory.
        
        For a population that is being ethnically cleansed there have been more births than deaths in Gaza since the war began.

So Hamas tries to rewrite the ceasefire agreement on basis of 7 year ceasefire, removal of all IDF from Gaza and return to UN distribution of food aid.

Why is this? Of course so Hamas can rebuild their fighter numbers, rebuild their terror infrastructure and rearm. Plus make money from controlling the aid and use it as a weapon against Gaza residents.

Any thinking person would see clearly what Hamas is trying to. But the UN, western Govts, media and the left call them reasonable terms and for Israel to accept.

Then we get a story about 24 dead at an aid distribution centre. CNN and BBC quickly blame the IDF. The American company who runs the food programme says there was no incident at all and IDF drone footage suggests there may have been some armed gunman but were Hamas.

Once again who gains from causing fear at the aid stations and kill in people lining up for food. Of course Hamas does but who does the media and left blame without facts? Of course Israel

The reality is the UN employees are rotten to the core

  Palestinians, via Hamas AND OTHER ORGANISATIONS have been trying for years to stop Israeli illegal occupation of Palestine and IDF mowing the lawn regularly, getting nowhere.
  
  Israel just ignores the UN and ICC and just does whatever Netanyahu decides. (Netanyahu’s stated position is the removal of all Palestinians from Gaza (probably the west bank as well.)
  
  As I understand it October 6th was an attempt to get the Palestinian problem in to the worlds consciousness.
  
  Yes, to the western world it was barbaric. Just as Israels response is barbaric. But it got attention(objective achieved, however at a horrendous cost)
  
  Some research and some rational thinking is a wonderful way of looking at the world.

Jacinda on TV One – looks like she’s been Americanised. Tanned hair freshly dyed, teeth look whiter and somehow her features are more regular than I recall. I can’t quite put my finger on what it is, very odd.

I see MSM writing up Russias massive drone atatcks.
What they dont tell you about is the number of Ukrainian drone atatcks on Russian residential areas.

When Ukraine does massive drone attacks on Russian residential areas (reminds me of Ukraine Shelling the Donbass before all this shit hit the fan).

Then Russia will retaliate.

So the whole shebang is escalating with Drone attacks on Siberian military base.

Guess we might see some Russian drone attacks on western Ukraine, which has largely been spared so far, as I understand it.

Trump stirring the pot, re name-calling/threatening Putin, will only make thinks worse, unfortunately.
