Hamas has rejected the American-devised truce deal with Israel. The reasons are:
1. The Hamas leadership and their family members are not living in the Gaza Strip. They live in luxury in Qatar, Turkey, Algeria and Lebanon. They and their families lead comfortable lives and do not have to worry about lack of food or medicine. They do not have to stand in line and risk being shot by Hamas terrorists for trying to receive food from a humanitarian organisation or by the IDF.
2. The mullahs in Tehran who make the final decisions are in no rush to end the war against Israel. They want it to continue: it distracts attention from Iran’s efforts to acquire nuclear weapons.
3. For Hamas’s leaders the No. 1 priority is to make sure that Hamas remains in power the day after the war. For them “the end” (eliminating Israel) justifies “the means” (sacrificing Palestinians as “martyrs” in the jihad against Israel).

Combine that with a significant body of opinion in both Israel’s population and its present government that there’ll never be an acceptable deal and peace in the foreseeable is a fantasy.

What with that, Ukraine, whatever else Russia is going to get up to, Iran and its bomb, India vs Pakistan, China and Taiwan and don’t forget the Rocket Man, we live in uncertain times. Or as Helen Clark said “an incredibly benign environment”.

  America is in no way an independent party in a position to broker a deal. They are, in all but name, a combatant, always willing to do Israel’s bidding and meet all of the Israel Lobby’s many demands. It may as well have been Israel-devised deal, and we all know how lopsided those “deals” are, so much so that you have to suspect those deals are specifically designed to be rejected by the Palestinians.

I know some here have a very mixed view of Winston Peters but I believe it’s time for a re-evaluation? Check him out absolutely ripping into the Maori party and their extremist ideas:

Winston is magnificent calling out their boorish behaviour and inability to listen rather than shout down opposing speakers. Winston also speaks for Maori who believe in their country and want to get ahead. As opposed to the Maori party who want to tear everything down and return to tribalism.

Listen carefully to what Winston says, there is not one thing I disagree with. And Winston can criticise the Maori party as he is himself Maori and understands Maori culture and the traditions of the marae much better than the Maori party does.

The camera does pan to the greens and the Maori party. Look at what a show they are!?
Also some young fellow makes a point of order in Maori. At the risk of upsetting liberals, I don’t like it when MPs speak in Maori. I can’t understand what he is saying? English should be the language of parliament. So everyone can understand what’s being said.

Unlike many here, I think the coalition is working well. And Peters is certainly doing his part, calling out the undoubted extremism of the Maori party, who don’t even believe in the country they are supposed to represent.

  Most of us dont disagree with what he has ever said, apart from when he said Capitalism is broken, but last week he gave an opening to Labour, get rid of Hipkins and i can swing your way, he will never ever be trusted, he cannot be relied on to do the right thing.

      1. Winston had leverage over Helen Clark and this bridge was purely for his own ends. Helen Clark, as Bob Jones once said, would have built concentration camps for Maori, if it gave her another term.

      Except had Peters not gone with Labour in the previous election Ardern wouldn’t have been able to give us bubbles, kindness, and teddy bears in the front window.
      It would have been a quite different election had a Nat/ACT/NZF government negotiated Covid.
      The economy would likely not have been eviscerated and I’m pretty sure that we would not have been locked down for so long, if at all.

  Winstons issue has never been his words. He is very good at saying what people want to hear. He is also good at saying things in a way that make you think he means one thing but actually leaves him open to do another.
  
  The most recent example is ‘I wont work with a hipkins led government’. For Nat voters that sounds great ‘I wont work with Labour’ and for Labour voters that sounds great ‘I will work with Labour if they change their leader’.
  
  Winston has two major flaws
  1) You cant trust anything he says
  2) He promises a lot but delivers little.

    He WILL go with Labour, the Greens, and TPM if they give him enough incentive.
    We will see another “capitalism has failed” moment.

  The one thing that has come out of this is the NZ Labour Party is going to have to rule out working with the Maori Party. Whether that helps their cause is moot. They will not get the Votes as long as even their own supporters, never mind the swing vote, know that voting Labour gets the Maori Party inside or outside of Cabinet. Many remember Jacinda taking the Greens in when not needed too and realise the Green Party in it’s present iteration is just as unhinged as Te Pati Maori. MMP, don’t you love it.

    Malaya/Malaysia/Borneo commemoration 16 September

  About 80% of the destruction of German forces during WW2 was done by Russia. D-Day was a picnic compared to the meat grinder that was the Eastern Front. That doesn’t mean the anniversary shouldn’t be commemorated, but it wasn’t the turning point we are told it was.

    The Eastern Front was a meat market in part because Stalin wanted to make it so. It didn’t have to go the way it did.
    
    By contrast the Western armies were much more cautious with the lives of their troops.
    
    Yet Russia gets to glory in the size of its sacrifice. Odd, really.

      Given the amount of allied funding and hardware provided to the Soviets, “we” obviously weren’t too concerned about “the size of [Russia’s] sacrifice.” In fact, profiting from the destruction of the equipment being sold to them, as well as the heavy Soviet casualties being sustained by what would become “our” enemy in a matter of months or years after the end of the war, was a win-win for “us.”

    Fair enough if you are referring to popular Western histories from the thirty years after 1945, but since then there has been a huge re-evaluation by historians who, initially from German archives, then from Russian archives, when permitted, have cut through Western biases and Soviet propaganda, and acknowledged the huge Soviet contribution to victory.
    
    A major problem here is the concept of a ‘turning point’ in a long, multi-front war waged by a coalition.
    
    Yes, 80% of the Wehrmacht’s losses were inflicted by the Soviets and the last 40 years of research by Western historians on the Eastern Front, have acknowledged this, but what in a nearly three-year campaign is a turning point – the 1941 struggle for Moscow, the 1942/43 struggle for Stalingrad, the 1943 struggle at Kursk? They were all significant strategic defeats for Germany, collectively transferring the initiative to the Soviet Union.
    
    The successful lodgement of Allied forces and subsequent breakout in France guaranteed that Germany could not focus its remaining forces on the Soviets and would now have to fight a two-front war on land. This too was a strategic defeat, coming on top of losing the war in the Atlantic and increasingly losing the war in the air over Germany.
    
    Was the Battle of Britain a turning point, keeping Britain, and potentially the US, in the war and depriving Germany of access to food and war materials, so long as the Royal Navy existed, and ensuring Barbarossa began with a weakened Luftwaffe?
    
    Or perhaps Pearl Harbour and Hitler’s declaration of war against the US was the real turning point as it condemned Germany to a struggle against three large industrial powers with a greater total population and control of the Atlantic.

The debate on the Privileges Committee recommendation was a show of contempt, arrogance and ignorance by Te Pati Māori and some Green members. Their speeches and interjections reinforced the fact that they are treasonous. Their aim is secessionism. They are open about being ‘trojan horses’ there to not just divide but to be the dominant ruling elite – all 15% of them. It is an utter abuse of our democratic process. The equal tragedy is that the MSM shield them, support them and mislead . In this case they keep stating it was the performing of the haka that was the cause of the punishment when it was made abundantly it was not.

The three ACT women, Karen Chhour, Nicole McKee and Parmjeet Parmar all made very powerful and poignant contributions in the debate. The speeches were sincere and quite remarkable in content and delivery. Well done for them refusing to play the race card and for staying away from the gutter politics of the left.

  … Labour needs to do to Te Pāti Māori in 2026 exactly what it did to the Māori Party in 2017 – drive it out of Parliament. In 2017 Labour retook all of the Māori seats. Moreover, by executing that clean sweep it reclaimed its historical position as the pre-eminent guardian of Māori interests.
  
  However then, as under Ardern and Hipkins, “as the pre-eminent guardian of Māori interests” Labour falsely advanced Maori lore and law above that of all other ethnic groups because either that just seemed a good idea or, as some suspect, it was because the Maori Caucus can threaten to cede Labour and bring them down, and will a vote for Labour recreate that position – a Winston-type kingmaker within the Party, rather than te Pati Maori without.
  
  Does Jacinda’s book reveal why she elevated Maori to Aryan-like exceptionalism or explain Labour’s motivation for that?

  They hype up the whole race issue way beyond the actual issue and useful idiots buy into it.
  
  The Maori Party are simply not serious parliamentarians , nor genuinely representing their voters’ interests ( beyond trying to bring down our democratic constitution).
  
  And the media instead of holding them to account ,back them up and stir further.
  
  ( How would the media treat Seymour if he had pulled that noose stunt).
  
  Meanwhile Maori children won’t go to school and will therefore be dependent on the Crown ( taxpayer) for their whole lives . ( see A Poole’s post) .
  
  That’s what the Maori Party and the msm should be addressing as a matter of constant urgency.

    No government , public service, judiciary etc would have been able to do what they did, and are continuing to do to us, without them.
    
    The media used to report on things that the people did.

But TPM is a product of democracy and indulgent and conflicting liberal values. As Goebbels said: “This will always remain one of the best jokes of democracy – that it gave its deadly enemies the means by which it was destroyed.” Perhaps, as Carl Schmitt (1888-1985) argued, the age of parliament is over (‘The Crisis of Parliamentary Democracy’).

    exactly, people on here endlessly discussing the rights and wrongs yet the behavior in Parliament is because they can’t even govern themselves. Why was there all that shouting during Winstons speech FFS?
    everyone just sat there bored and why would you tolerate that, none of us would, no company board meeting would, no school would,, how much self dignity does it show on each politician that was present to just obediently sit there.
    I reckon as suggested before, fight fire with simple mockery,
    If somebody like Seymour and Winston, preferably all the males in parliament, went and bought cheap cowboy hats and wore them everyday for a week or two in Parliament the shame would be smashed home. Ignore the media, make no comments at all,No words spoken, just a simple act of ridicule would see a behavior change. Then work on the next thing, language perhaps, just start adding french phrases or something at times. Same applies for media, why would you not just mock them to death and smile and openly laugh while doing it, especially when its being filmed, make them nervous to approach you.     Ferries generally carry a few Cars/ Trucks etc but 100’s of potential passengers and Car carriers with small trained crew carry vehicles etc.
    
    How can you safely evacuate untrained Passengers.
    
    Because rules and regulations are slow to act, A prominent Ferry operator in Norway has just down right banned EV’s on his Ferries for the Safety of his Crews.
    
    It is just a matter of time before a Ferry operator carrying EV’s has a major event with multiple casualties. This problem is enhanced if the ferries carry “Hybrid Battery” systems ( Ie what the loonies proposed for NZ) along with standard Propulsion.

Waititi said that throughout history when Māori did not play ball, the “coloniser government” reached for extreme sanctions, ending with a plea to voters: “make this a one-term government, enrol, vote”.
He brought out a noose to represent Māori wrongfully put to death in the past, saying “interpretation is a feeling, it is not a fact … you’ve traded a noose for legislation”.

1 – If Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke, who gave the Maori Party voting number as 6 against sending the Treaty Principles Bill to the Justice Committee, had waited for “the ayes have it” the vote would have been over and performing the haka, from their seating positions, would have probably passed without consequence. The voting, said to be disrupted, was over, it was just the result – just four words probably – had not been formally announced.

2 – “make this a one-term government, enrol, vote” – ‘enrol’ means ‘enrol on the Maori Roll” as was the urging of Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke’s speech outside Parliament to the last Hikoi – all enrolling will give us 20 Maori seats.

3 – does Waititi always keep a noose under his desk for suitable moments, or took it in on the day but was not stopped from carrying an objectionable object, or was it concealed which may be perhaps a more serious problem?

The MSM continue to campaign for citizenship for children of overstayers. The media are correct in that issue is not going to go away; there are 18 years worth of them and that train is going to keep on rolling. And, I feel sorry for the kids concerned. But, this is entirely on the parents. As overstayers, they are completely in the wrong, and what they have done to their kids is a form of child abuse.

Unspoken in all of this is the assumption that NZ is better than where these overstayers come from. It’s a pretty arrogant assumption, I think. Divorcing an Indian (as an example) child from his heritage is just cruel. Really, it’s all about money, which speaks volumes about the motivations of so many of our immigrants.

And, glossed over by the media in their concern that these kids have no jobs, no travel rights etc, is that this exactly defines the situation of the overstaying parents. Can’t get a job? Pull the other one! The parents have been working in the black economy since they lost their right to be here. Of course their kids can work. But, this is illustrative of the (I think) vast black economy that surrounds our ethnic migrants and their communities. You never hear of IRD or Immigration investigating this, yet it surely exists and will be full of scams.

Time to rip the sticking plaster off, and go hard after the illegals.

I remember when

I see that Mike Hosking has suggested that vaping was ‘a gateway for kids.’
There would seems to be some truth in this statement, at least from personal observation.
Go to any big retail establishment with a carpark area attached and look at the groups outside vaping.
Very few now seem to be in the older age generation, with many in the twenty to thirty group.
Another thought is that they always seem to have companionship.
Are they sort of friendship groups?

I have a few thoughts about the debate yesterday concerning the Maori Party.
As a penance for my many sins I watched it.
I was struck by how few MPs from National and Labour were in the chamber.
Both front rows were conspicuously empty.
The fight seemed to be carried on mainly by Maori women in Act and New Zealand First, and Willie Jackson and Adrian Rurawhe.
On the latter … what a pity the man wasn’t still Speaker of the House.
I almost began to like William Wakatere Jackson until I remembered how much he did in Government to advance the Maorification of this country for his political gain.
The best speeches were by three Maori women – Nicole McKee, Casey Costello, and the one I regard as the most impressive woman in the house, Karen Chhour.
The most fantastic – in terms of ‘are you serious?’ – was by the part-Italian Tākuta Ferris, whose recitation of victimhood and oppression seemed at odds with his Sciascia and Ferris ancestries.
It is clear that Labour is beginning dimly to perceive that the Maori Party is the worst sort of poison. I expect that they will more conspicuously flee from them in the next few months.
The Maori Party: backwards-looking, spewing historical victimhood and resentment by what the vlogger The Anglo Saxon calls fractionated Maoris.
They don’t like being called part-Maori, as a flick in Parliament by Mariameno Kapa-Kingi showed a few weeks ago.
Well, I don’t like being called a visitor or a guest to this country.
I am indigenous to this country, and I think that’s something more and more non-Maori who were born here should assert.
I am as indigenous as anyone with a Maori-Pakeha ancestor.
I was born here.
My Mum and Dad were born here.
My maternal grandparents were born here.
I am as Irish, though, as Debbie Ngaraewa- Packer and John Tamihere.
But I and my siblings and my cousins were all born here. We have nowhere else to go ‘back to’.
I also have Maori cousins. One is a current Olympian. Her ancestor was my grandfather’s youngest brother who had, Grandma used to say, ‘a wandering eye’.
The Maori Party continue to assert and wail that it’s all a racist, Pakeha plot to keep them subjugated. They assert that everybody is wrong but not them.
And yet their message has found a home – just look at the young MP who kicked off the haka, Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clark.
I imagine that since she was a pepe she has imbibed the diet of resentment and victimhood soup served up by her elders.
I wonder how much else she knows – such as how her ancestor who was the first Maori Cabinet Minister advocated the suppression of the Maori language so they would learn English.
Don’t expect apologies and contrition from the Maori Party. If they were ever offered it would not be sincere.
They’re not in Parliament to play by Pakeha rules.

    There was a childrens story about a baker who sold bread of a lesser weight than he claimed. The people got upset and complained to the King. The King had the baker weighed and gathered the same ‘nominal’ weight of bread. The King has a large ‘scale’ erected over a cliff and had the bread placed on one basket. His soldiers started putting the baker in the other basket and then swing it out over the cliff. The baker realising he was doomed begged for mercy. The King relented as long as the baker did not short weight his bread in the future and also that he agreed to provide a 13th loaf when a customer purchased 12 loaves (the ‘Bakers Dozen’).

  The issue as I see it is why IRD was not actively dealing with employers who put in PAYE returns late. Also on payday the employer should be setting up a simultaneous payment for PAYE tax, Kiwisaver, student loan repayments, child support etc. At present most employers need only make a monthly payment. Why not immediately? Similarly IRD has been pretty slow chasing up late payments (even before Covid).

  Surely , in the 8 or so years this project has been going, someone could have foreseen that there is no pickup/drop-off areas around the station. It really is Transport 101 to do stuff like that.
  Oh, but perhaps it was built into the scheme that the last Labour guvment, that paid soooo much for, and connected to the Light rail system that spectacularly failed.Thanks again to the lightweight who is now part of or leads that union E Tu.

The Greens have blocked a call for NZ’s Parliament to condemn the terrorism in Kashmir

Parmar told the meeting the Green Party had blocked the motion.

“The Green Party said they would not support the use of [the phrase] ‘terrorist attack’ in my motion. And I decided not to take it out,” Parmar said.

“I felt removing these words would mean minimising the evil motivations behind the action.”

Failing to get consensus, Parmar’s motion failed to pass.

  A teenager who narrowly missed hitting another girl’s spine as she stabbed her multiple times with a steak knife has been sentenced to home detention.
  
  The now-19-year-old handed herself in to police even though the victim had not laid a complaint, and pleaded guilty at her first appearance, something Judge Peter Hobbs said was “unusual” in his 14 years of experience.

    Apart from loss of salary there is no indication of other implications of the suspensions. Presumably they would be paid to return home, but can they claim travel costs while suspended. Also would they be banned from the Parliamentary precinct during their suspensions? Would Parliamentary Services funding to TMP be adjusted?
