Over 140 people, mainly female, attacked in France in “syringe attacks” at music festivals in coordinated attacks across the country.

“Before the party, posts on social media had called for women to be targeted during the festivities.”

Perhaps it is my bigotry showing, but I am prepared to place a hefty wager on the identity of such attackers. All information about the attackers is being whitewashed.

I hope this is treated as the the terrorism it is.

      Explain HOW China can invade Taiwan.
      How do you gather and then move troops across close to 200 kms of open water without very nasty things happening to them.
      Putting aside the subsurface assets that USN has in that water at all times…with their missles and torpedos (do you think USA will sit by and watch it happen?) how do you think a naval invasion force would go against Taiwans 100o or so tanks, 2000 or so artillery pieces, 500 attack aircraft, and what about a few million drones?

        Hundreds of thousands of Chinese living working studying raising families on both sides of the straits, hundreds of billions of dollars in business between Taipei and Beijing.
        Over a period of time the Taiwanese see that they will be better off as a semi autonomous province of the rising Empire rather than as a vassal state of the failing Empire. They could even keep their gay marriage and pride parades if it means so much to them (which it doesn’t).

    Sat photos show Iran was busy moving critical equipment and probably enriched uranium out of underground facilities prior to US bombing (large groups of trucks), so Iran probably still on track to have nukes very soon.

      If you look at the sophistication of the technology, it is more than just the enriched uranium. Iran has lost it’s top scientists, and all the support infrastructure (buildings and equipment) and the “quiet time” to do all of this efficiently.
      
      And having a prototype – which is all they could ever expect to produce at this time – is nothing like having the arsenal that the USA and Russia have after 80 years to refine and produce warheads.
      
      Now I know that all Iran wants to do is to attack Israel, but that requires stealth, and to date not a good reputation there given the effectiveness of the Mossad.
      
      The continuing bombing and attacks by Israel will ensure that it is not going to be easy, and all the while their political strength is waning, and regime change is a valid topic of discussion.

        I’m pretty sure that Iran will have nuke bombs within a year (quite likely they already have a few built) they only need a few of their latest centrifuges to complete enrichment (bomb construction is relatively trivial in difficulty) – unless there is regime change, and that regime change really is the only chance for any sort of ‘happy’ ending for Iran.
        
        Israel must be getting very close to the point where they will use nukes to stop Iran getting the bomb, but If I were a mad Mullah who didn’t care about loss of life I would be shifting Uranium and bomb making work to deep under a large population center – making it politically untenable for Israel to do anything.
        
        It’s an impossible situation for Israel, dealing with madmen who have demonstrated that their Missiles can get through Israeli defenses around 10% of the time. This is a clear existential threat and so they are going to get very very bloody in this.

    Until they are dealt to there will be no peace, no Two State solution, and no peace in the Middle East.
    
    Hamas do not play by accepted International rules. They continue to hold hostages, all the while killing some, so IMHO cannot see any meaningful peace discussions with such people.
    
    I’d love to hear a sensible proposal of what should be done. So far Trump’s idea is the only one that makes any practical sense. I suspect that once Iran’s influence has been curtailed, this will be the next objective on his list.

        From Israel’s perspective – Palestinians and Iranians already hate them with homicidal intensity, so not making any more enemies, and puts the Gazans far away. A lot of Israel’s Arab neighbours (who quietly hate Iran due to Sunni-Shia schism and also don’t like troublesome Palestinians) would be quietly happy to increase Iran’s internal troubles.

  One way to solve NZ’s current race relations issues would be to have it resolved who actually counts as Maori. If it’s personal choice then everyone should be Maori. If it’s genetic then we need accurate records and biological proof of being more Maori than not. I think we all know that very few people would qualify.

    I would say that Reform would be hard pressed to form a cabinet which is worse than this Labour government’s, or for that matter anywhere near as bad as the past three term Tory governments.
    “Just sitting on immigration” shows that you are either not listening or just don’t want to hear. Farage has more new policy announced over night, and it’s nothing to do with immigration or Muslim rape gangs, he will appear on tv, radio or anywhere else to answer questions on their policy, he is by far the most capable political operator anywhere in Europe at the moment.

    The Reform popularity has already changed UK politics, even Starmer is sounding much more centrist and it is causing serious splits in the ruling Labour government. Referring to mass immigration without saying it, “We are becoming an Island of strangers”.
    From the rape gangs to illegal small boat invasion,
    an ever growing deficit despite the recent big tax increases with more to come. Starmer has no explanation or plan on what to do next. Farage with only five MPs is now the centre of attention.
    Reform is now in control of 10 local authorities and in the process of publicising the shocking levels of tax payer money being wasted on all the usual things like DEI, asylum seeker hotels, free phones, free food, free medical, free days out, free English lessons . Much of this goes to failed asylum seekers who should be kicked out. Farage calls him “never here Kier”, and the voters are angry.

Education is one of the rights to which all children (<18 yrs) are entitled, and one of the most essential.

It is probably the one area where the state has the greatest influence, yet she is silent on the subject.

      Keith, this isn’t anything new. Firstly, he’s a young bloke, and young blokes do dumb things. I look at it from my own experience. I did dumb shit, seriously dumb shit. At 64 I look back at the things I, and my mated did, and wonder how I survived. I ended up in court. The worst charge was dropped (I think it was “causing serious injury whilst driving under the influence”) and I copped a relatively minor charge (at the time) of drunk driving. I wasn’t a top rugby player, didn’t have friends in high places and couldn’t play the “ethnicity card”. And I was a “lesser mortal”. But I reckon I turned out OK. Went off to University and did good. Got great jobs and ended in high places. Retired over 5 years ago. All without blotting my copybook again. Clarke was dumb, took risks that could have cost him, and worse others.   While Marsden Point would have offered some flexibility of supply, it still depends on crude.
  
  If we really want to be self-secure, there is over 300 years worth of lignite in South Island waiting to be converted into petrol and diesel via the Fischer-Tropsch process.

    We currently use 157,000 bbls a day, But totally agree this process in Southland would be a winner , More so with Hydro power from Manapouri, Good port in Bluff and untold lignite.
    In addition this process is easier to convert to Synthetic Gas.
    Why is this seriously not considered I do not know.

      I will say though that the Sasolburg (the home of SASOL) in South Africa stinks, and stinks badly. Secunda does too. I am not sure if that is an inherent part of the F-T process or whether it is high sulphur levels in SA coal.
      
      We have enough lignite in the Southland/Otago area to provide ALL NZ’s energy needs for hundreds of years, including:
      * Electricity generation (even if we replaced all our hydro)
      * Synfuel (diesel, petrol, jetA1 etc) for all our vehicles and planes.
      * Heating,

  So that’s a relief
  Previously the Marsden Point Refinery imported oil from the Middle East which did go through that strait
  NZ was unsuitable for refining at Marsden Point

The Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand, the Combined Sikh Association of NZ and the New Zealand Buddhist Council are again pushing for “hate speech” controls.

This is in the Herald report of Police Minister Mitchell having a go at the Destiny Church.

The Herald attributes the following to Destiny members:

Palestine, Islam, Buddhist and Sikh flags were torn and stomped on by men who performed a haka after each ritualistic destruction of a flag.

It’s as annoying and useless as ripping up New Zealand, British, and American flags in other demonstrations. Not as dramatic as a midget with a shotgun blowing holes in a national flag after first splattering it with spit and snot.

People from other cultures moving to New Zealand need to accept Western tolerance — as expressed in freedom of speech.
