        It got more than media attention, I can recall Royal Forest and Bird or NFAC activists running around High Schools in the early 70’s trying to scare the bejesus out of us re the coming Ice Age unless “we did something”. I think we were more concerned with a nuclear war back then but even that was less of a concern as to whether a local pub would let us buy a flagon on a Saturday night.

  Whenever I see these headlines, I wonder what new lie has been made up to support this collapsing narrative. Usually it’s the same lie using a different word. We have been through global warming, climate change, climate emergency and now climate boiling and climate crisis (sounds awful doesn’t it). Could we be on the edge of climate catastrophe ? Last one would be a hard one because Greta and most Greenies would have difficulty with the spelling. The Greens seem to be very quiet on Green issues lately, and are more concerned with giving away free money, supporting terrorist and promoting dead languages. I’d love to know how far the greens have fallen and the split in their support between actual Green issues, support for terrorism and handing out free money. I suspect Green issues garners the lowest level of support these days.

    Back in my day, ALL of them were spokespeople for different aspects of the environment: I can’t remember who was who, but one would talk about rivers, one about forests, one about the oceans etc. etc.

  I suspect either the leadership in Iran has fractured or the comms were out that led to the missile strike. The former is likely given there would be elements who would not want to see any cease fire and would prefer to keep fighting to the death. Until there is regime change that brings in a leadership that is moderate and wants peace with Israel nothing will change.

Here in NZ our govt is generally very respectful to the mainstream media and continues to fund them, TVNZ and Radio NZ, even though they trash this govt every single day.

While over in the USA the Congress is cutting funding to their state funded outlets like PBS. Meanwhile the president of the United States is laying into left wing outlets, CNN and MSNBC. He calls them total losers.

Now for me personally I like it when Trump lays into the mainstream media. I think it’s way overdue, I think the mainstream media is terrible and they deserve every heap of scorn they get.

But the same people lay into Luxon and say he’s weak and why doesn’t he speak up stronger?

So you, many of you on this blog and you know who you are, criticise Luxon for being weak and hate Trump for being strong.

So which is it? Are you just negative people? People who can’t be pleased all of the time?

For me I like it when Trump lays into the media. But I’m a happy guy. 😎

  FYI – I like Trump for his strength. I love that he calls a spade a spade. I dislike some of his policy, such as his handling of tariffs.
  
  I am now at the point that I strongly dislike Luxon. I actually prefer Hipkins. At least Hipkins says what he believes in, even though its rubbish. Don’t get me wrong, I am not supporting Labour.
  
  I was thinking about it this morning, if I was polled I would be voting ACT and stunningly (to me) selecting Winston as preferred prime minister. This is scary as I dislike Winston in general, but as a spokesman for the country he comes across as a statesman and at least seems to say what he believes in.
  
  To me this is a sign of Luxons failure as a leader. He should be miles ahead in preferred PM ratings. I am sure it is a major part of why National is now losing to Labour on 17 out of 20 areas in recent polling, including handling of the economy. I think the National team is pretty strong but its leadership is weak as dishwater.

        He’s not saying what he’ll do about increasing warnings of power shortages.
        
        He’s not saying how much power prices will rise with a continued focus on wind and solar. There ample evidence now of underperformance of those sources.

  I’m wondering if the reason Luxon continues to fund the media is to display some sort of virtuous ability to hug the enemy.
  
  If so, he has missed the point that they aren’t just his enemy, they are the enemy of the population that they manipulate with lies and propaganda.
  
  The media are an activist political force, with no mandate and no responsibility, with an agenda to foment civil unrest in NZ. Giving them money can only be seen as supporting that aim and must surely be grounds to see Luxon lose his job.

Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.

He’s a master of the deal, a master of leverage.

Iran and Israel both tested the ceasefire, like clockwork, and both got firmly put back in their box. Trump didn’t play favourites. He called out Iran for the missile strike and rang up Bibi mid-escalation telling him to calm the hell down. That’s control.

And let’s not lose sight of the big win: the US got Iran to back off nukes without losing a single soldier or piece of gear. No boots on the ground. No quagmire. Just hard talk, pressure, and deals.

I know some of you here will twist yourselves into knots to downplay it. Some think he’s a narcissist (as if politicians aren’t by default). Some are jealous. But strip away the tweets and theatrics? He’s the best president of my lifetime (Ford was President when I was born). No contest.

  Although it’s always difficult to rate Presidents until well after they’ve departed the scene, I am genuinely interested in how you can rate Trump as the best President of the last 50ish years.

  Iran’s bomb program has been set back by a few months at best, and the Mullahs will be far more determined to build them now.
  
  Iran has also been taught how shit Russian air defense is, so will be busy sourcing better stuff from China. Their ballistic missile and drone tech has also been well tested so will now be improved upon.
  
  Trump has managed to greatly piss off the Iranians while tying Israel’s hands behind their back and basically guaranteeing that Iran’s Insane death-cult leadership will have nuclear bombs within the year.
  
  I’d say 50-50 chance millions will die as a result.

  It was a great call from Hosking. He also had some pretty big hits against the coalition government, essentially saying they should be thrashing Labour but are looking like they could lose next year.
  
  National will be praying for the economy to pick up soon, which they wouldn’t have to be if they were managing their messaging better. They have some pretty awesome things but haven’t reaped the rewards for it as the focus has been on the areas they are ‘wishy washy’ on. As a (non Luxon) example I offer education, led by may favourite National minister. The curriculum improvements appear excellent however education is bogged down by the slow roll out of partnership schools, stuff like Ta Ao Maori being a requirement in the new system when they were supposed to be removing it and continuous reporting around school lunches.

  Ginny seems to have a real credibility problem around rents.
  Last year when they were being discussed on Hosking she grizzled about how she knew what people were going through under this terrible government as her own rent had gone up and it was so difficult.
  A few weeks later Hosking was going through the register of interests and raised her mortgage with her. She confirmed she had one.
  So a bit confusing. The only conclusion I can come to is she managed to find a house and buy it and register it with Parliament all within a few weeks. Probably because of her sky-high rent.
  That’ll be the answer. There can’t have been any deception of the listening public in order to score points by Ginny.
  On a further point, if she has moved to a new abode, at least she use her voice to strip the varnish and paint off the walls.

This irks me no end.

A young woman/girl flees police and drives into a tree and kills herself.

Solution: charge the pursuing officer with reckless driving causing death.

I call bullshit. It was her speeding and her dangerous driving that caused her own death. If she had slowed down or stopped none of this would have happened.

Usual bullshit about “Riley described Angel as a beautiful soul.”

“She would have been 19 this year. We feel robbed of a young life, a young beautiful girl, just coming into adulthood. Her confidence was soaring.”

Yeah, naah, not going to accept a gangster’s opinion of his daughter who was seems to be living out her genes.

Perhaps the wanau should rather be asking themselves what they did to encourage her to go off the rails and try to flee police. Perhaps some self-accountability is in order rather than trying to blame others. But then those with a criminal past and associations tend to blame others for the things that go bad in their lives.

The net result from this is that cops will be even more reluctant to pursue the idiotic dangerous drivers and criminals that make society unsafe.

When doing your job can end you up in court, what motivation is there to join the police force? Or if you do, what motivation is there to pursue criminals?

  The other day there was a report of a well known All Black rugby player who was charged with speeding and “fleeing the police” on his motorbike.
  He was charged with an offence and let off without conviction by the court.
  Will wait to see if the police who recommended charges be laid, will themselves now be charged with something.

    The footy player got nothing more than anyone else would get on a first offence. He wasn’t pissed or on drugs. Anyone with a job that involved travel would have played the same card to the judge and got the same result.
    As the judge said in New Zealand we believe in 2nd chances.
    If he wasnt a footy player, this wouldnt have made the papers and had his name plastered over the country, no one would know if he was an accountant.

        Plus Eroni and his wife would probably not have been in court supporting him.

      I think you’ve inadvertently exposed the real problem – anyone fleeing from cops and hitting over a ton in a 50 should not be getting discharge without conviction.
      These discharges without conviction are a joke. Either you committed a crime or you didn’t. If you did, it’s a conviction.
      Now you could then go for effectively no penalty (we have conditional discharges in the UK where you’ll be re-sentenced for the original crime if you re-offend within a certain period) but this NZ idea that it’s a little bit mean to record someone has committed a crime with a conviction is just ridiculous.

  There is no mention of the Policeman using his siren and `blues and twos’ as the saying is but, it is odds on he used one or both as he started to pursue her.
  
  Had she stopped then she would not have died as a result of the pursuit.
  
  In the last 10 days I have had to dodge (make way) for two Police Cars and an Ambulance in three separate incidents. It is not hard to pull over to the left and stop.
  
  In the case of the ambulance it happened on a round a bout so I had to accelerate to a spot where I could get out of the way. Again not difficult even with reflexes slowed by age.

  The police have rules about pursuit. Safety is the primary consideration, as it should be. In this case, the police have decided their officer breached the rules to a criminal degree, which resulted in death. It seems entirely appropriate to put this before a court.

      Allowing miscreants to just drive off is not putting “Safety as the primary consideration” in the context of society as a whole – otherwise you get anarchy.
      
      But what to do. You can get all technical with ways to track these people, but I’d suggest a far simpler way – anyone fleeing from police when found get’s a life ban on driving, and an automatic 1 year (no parole) incarceration, on top of anything else. Anyone also in the car gets the same unless a child or can prove they had no way to influence the decision to flee. Also the vehicle is owned by the offender(s), it gets taken.
      
      Has to be firm and hard, same for anyone attacking any first responder, or A&E nurse.

        The technology is there, but would require a second person to pilot. But that could be a central control who would fly it once it was airborne. Then under their guidance the Police Officer(s) could follow and/or others approach from another direction.
        
        So if we start to see strange humps on top of Police cars we now know what they could be. A big launch button on the dashboard and the device could launch and just follow the Police car until hand over to a live pilot.

      As new taxpayer money is now unavailable to WOCA, I strongly suspect the funding for this ad will be from WOCA reserves – unspent taxpayer money.

        If you want to know their financial records I suggest you read their annual report. If you want to decide that organisations that get funding to provide a service should then repay that money because of an imaginary reason you will make up as usual, then well, that is just plain stupid
        
        The tax payer did not pay for this advert or the campaign. If they used some of the money they made on those contracts, that is their money, their profit. They were contracted to provide a service, which they did for many years and were very good at, and were paid for that service. I heard Hipkins on the radio at noon. He stated that Trump’s actions were illegal. If he were PM and said that, how would that be for NZ? I hope that Luxon follows the Marxist PM in Oz and tells Trump he did a great job is stopping Iran from getting nuclear weapons.
