Woods bails on Wigram

Megan Woods has announced she will go List only at the next election. There are two reasons for this.

  1. She was at serious risk of losing the seat at the next election. It is the most likely seat for National to pick up on the proposed boundaries, and National’s Wigram electorate has had soaring membership and finances
  2. If Labour loses the next election, she can leave Parliament without a by-election.

Woods has held the seat since 2011 when she succeeded Jim Anderton. At the last election her majority was only 1,179 compared to 14,770 the election prior.
