Political Drama

April 27th, 2004 at 12:26 pm by David Farrar

One News has just reported that Tariana Turia left the Labour Caucus meeting at Premier House after only 45 minutes and in the PMs car.

Also that Richard Prebble is calling a press conference this afternoon regarding his leadership.

Highly likely that Turia has been told by Clark, she is being sacked. Less likely that Prebble is standing down.

Turia certainly pulls nu punches. At a time when some may be looking for compromise, she said, in response to asking if she will resign as a Minister “I haven’t done anything wrong, and usually people resign because they’ve done something wrong. They have either been drunk-driving or not quite told the truth in a way that the public would expect.”

I am sure Ruth Dyson and Lianne Dalziel appreciated that!

I hope that there is a by-election. As much as I disagree with her, at least she hasn’t done a flip flop like Georgina.

I aslo wanted a by-election in Nelson, if only it gives National a change to improve and test campaigning techniques.

Heh, I was quite keen for a Nelson by-election purely from the point of view of spending six weeks in vineyard country!

A by-election in Otago (Queenstown) would be nice also.

Seeing the footage of Turia’s exit, I was startled to see that she was lying on the back seat.

Yes it was very undignified. Normally behaviour you associate with gang members going into court.

A Minister of the Crown is a public figure and it was somewhat farcical.

Judging by some of the comments that have issued forth from Tariana Turia lately, she’s probably little better than a gang member. Remember, this is the woman who refers to all non-Maori, whether born in this country or not, as tauiwi – foreigners or aliens. I hope that she goes and drags this dreadful, lying, cheating, taxing government with her.
