I’m afraid Tamihere is losing it

John Tamihere is back blogging, and I can not believe what he is saying. His press secretary must be tied up and gagged somewhere.
In his blog, he:
* compares TV3 producer Jennings to Hitler
* compares Duncan Garner to Goebbels
* calls them both liars
* but worse of all almost labels Rodney Hide a paedophile, referring to Rodney having had dinner with Jim Peron and saying “I wonder what tricks and treats occurred at these dinners”.
This is just suicidal behaviour. As I have said often I like John Tamihere, but he is losing it if he thinks writing stuff like that will help him.

Since when does a backbencher have a press secretary

It’s not very lucid stuff from a possible future PM is it? Perhaps he’s given up on that particular ambition. Watching John over the next year or so will be insightful. Perhaps the government-funded stress management course isn’t working?
Speaking of future PMs, where’s David Kirk these days?
And John, if you’re listening, I’m only trying to help.

Tamihere currently has as much brain activity as the rocket fuelled combination of Terry Schiavo and Pope John Paul II.
Helen Clark will be fuming over this.
hehe

It seems like John is losing it. He seems to be lashing out in frustration because he can’t control the situation he is in.
Like you I liked him. In the past he appeared to say what he thought and not just followed the party line.

I forgot he is not a Minister for now, and hence has no press secretary that he has to knock out and tie up!

Makes you wonder whether this blog should do a bit more research.

DPF -
Isn’t JT still supposed to have someone vetting all his speeches and press releases? At the very least, Mike Munro should explain to him that it’s rather unwise to slander people on the Labour Party website which, as far as I know, is not ocvered by parliamentary privilege.
Any how, JT isn’t ‘losing it’. He lost it the moment he thought the bizarre double act with Clayton Cosgrove in this week’s general debate was a good idea. This isn’t red-blooded heterosexual ‘front-footing’ of an issue, but yesterday’s golden boy raging as his career goes down the toilet.

Why do you keep saying you like Tamihere? He is a crook and a welfarist. Like too many other Nats, get over him will you?
April 2nd, 2005 at 9:18 am
I have been disappointed in JT recently. I am already to listen to him when it comes to matters relating to tax. Tax is for losers and JT has lots of important points to make in this respect.

JT does seem to have come off the rails – although his blog is not as outrageous as DPF characterises it (as usual). His actual comment was:
‘Getting Jennings to rush to the aid of Garner is a bit like watching Hitler defend Goebbels.’
Which is still a pretty dumb thing to say, and reminds me of Godwins law, in which the first person in an internet debate to invoke Hitler or the Nazis automatically loses said debate. The reasoning behind Godwins law is that the scale of the crimes committed in the name of National Socialism were so terrible that to glibly compare them with (say) Tamiheres contretemps with TV3 is invalid and in poor taste.
There’s an element of hypocrisy here, however. Hide, DPF et al are shocked (shocked!) that Tamihere would compare Jennings to Hitler, but they have no such qualms about comparing Helen Clark with such historical notables as Joseph Stalin (a far greater monster than Hitler, to my mind) Kim Jong Il, or, in todays Hawkes Bay Herald, and quoted with great approval by DPF, Robert Mugabe.
These tedious, absurd and endless references to ‘Helengrad’ and ‘Dear Leader’ are an almost daily feature of this blog, so it’s pretty rich for DPF to be claiming that Tamihere is losing it simply because he’s going for the same cheap joke that Davids been recycling for several years.

Dim – first of all such personal attacks on members of the media by MPs, just because they exposed he lied about a $300,000 golden handshake on which no tax was paid, is too Muldoonist for me.
I am also staggered that JT really thinks he did nothing wrong, and he is the victim.
I am not that worried about the Hitler/Goebbels stuff – in fact I have been called both titles at times, but I think there is a difference when a MP does it on their official party website against a journalist he has a personal grudge against.
But you overlooked the truly offensive one, which is really what staggered me. The suggestion that as Hide is friends with Peron, that the two of them are both paedophiles. And lets not try and kid ourselves that that was not his implication.

Dim I think you’ll find the phrase is not “Dear Leader” it’s “Der Leader.”
Personally I find the double entendre very amusing indeed and think I might start using it much more often – thanks for reminding me.

Simon – what are these important things the crook says about tax?
April 2nd, 2005 at 11:01 am
David continually states he “likes” John Tamihere and I’m baffled by this. Just what is there about this guy that anyone could like?
April 2nd, 2005 at 1:33 pm
First of all I can like someone but not approve of their conduct. Hell many of my friends like me, but sometimes disapprove of my conduct.
On a more political level, I think JT has been one of the rare people who can bridge the divide between Maori and non-Maori, and that he has often spoken much common sense on these issues.
I also think he did some good stuff at Small Business Minister.
However he has a near fatal flaw – being his judgement which swings from careless to reckless.

Freudian slip about ‘tied and gagged in a back room’ of parliament ?
I hear there is a ‘strict mistress’ who spends a lot of time around the place !
April 2nd, 2005 at 6:36 pm
For some strange reason JT’s weblog is inaccessible.
April 3rd, 2005 at 7:09 am
He does not “bridge the divide between Maori and non-Maori”. He is an Uncle Tom who has no support among Maori, except West Auckland half-caste trash. All he does is mouth talk back platitudes that gets a certain kind of Pakeha all excited.
April 4th, 2005 at 9:32 am
The weblog appears to have been taken away by Labour. Did you cache it?
April 4th, 2005 at 9:12 pm
What on earth are people going on about Tamihere’s comments on his blog being defamatory. Maybe Tamihere is implying that the fun Rodney Hide and Jim Peron are having whilst enjoying enjoying a spot of dinner, consists of maintaing the Institute for Liberal Values website or Rodney’s blog. Besides Tamihere’s mates in Labour come off far worse in Investigate.
April 5th, 2005 at 1:52 am
“West Auckland half-caste trash” is pretty offensive, as is the Uncle Tom accusation. Dare I accuse you of being “a certain kind of Pakeha”, RightKiwi?
April 5th, 2005 at 7:25 am
Whig: It was meant to be offensive.
