I guess New Zealand is getting what it wanted. It seems every man and his dog has gone hell for leather to criticise the police, the govt hates the police.. just look at who was police minister, that says it all.
Vote:They lose if they enforce the law, they lose if they don’t enforce the law, they are understaffed, under equipped, saddled with ridiculous rules concerning violet youngsters, face private prosecutions and not allowed a higher allowance for living in expensive Auckland.
But hey its no problem, we all can afford to lose more experienced police, let

Funny how the Herald decides to focus on this stuff AFTER THE ELECTION..?????
As for Lance and his comments on the Police, the problems have always been at the top, where the PC culture that has undermined police efficiency has its greatest supporters. For example, today we have a story where people are receiving infringement notices when they have been dobbed in by telephone by other road users. This is an exceptional travesty of justice even in socialist controlled NZ, and an event that should never occur in a civilised country. Perhaps it would be unremarkable in some clapped out Eastern European Police State, but here in NZ under the Westminster system..?? Unbelievable. .. and yet police management are speaking out in support of this jack booted blot on the judicial process. The Police Force is sick, and the disease that afflicts it is spreading downward from the top.

Westminster system? Which country do you live in? The Herald is a Labor party rag I thought everyone knew that.
If you are a police officer at the bottom of the pyramid provided you treat the job as bit of a joke you will be fine. Have a good time and a few laughs.

Duders park is part of the Eastern Policing area of the Counties Manukau district. This is probably the most under-resourced policing area in NZ with about 1 police per 1300 people when compared with the NZ average of 1 to 540. The troubled Flat bush suburb is also part of the Eastern Policing area and you may find that the Police are a little tied up with the youth gangs at the moment.
It is simply a resource issue, nothing more, nothing less. My suggestion to the government is to deploy a large number of the extra 1000 Police to the Counties-Manukau district. My suggestion to the Public is that instead of complaining about the Police to the media why don’t you join a Crime Watch patrol and do something to help the Police reduce crime in your area. My suggestion to the Herald is why don’t you do a feature on Crime Watch patrol volunteers in the Counties-Manukau area?

The Press ran this story too, but with an added piece about how police are sending tickets in the mail to errant drivers using only the word of another motorist to set the ball rolling. Fair enough I suppose in some cases. I mean I’ve seen some pretty apalling stuff while tooling around in my own car, mostly from young male drivers.
However you have to question this in light of the fact that they’re not responding to crimes where there is actually videotaped evidence of the offense and the offenders. This is the second case like this that I can recall this year. Doubtless there are others that haven’t come to light.
