And it is holloween day. So will it be trick or treat. I see she is contemplating making chnages in health education and social welfare 3 pillers of the Labour Party. This suggests to me that National is winning the argument in those areas. Which it must if the Labour Party is to be politically destroyed. I just hope the headlines will be all about the sackings and demotions rather than the “fresh” new faces of queers, school teachers and Union Officials who went into politics for the gravy train.

I thought the greens were about protecting the environment and banning airbus and boeing (even though they fly in them all the time) The more I read about them, the more they come across as a fringe left wing weirdo sect verging on irrationality. I bet they didn’t ask how much of the native vegetation in the Urewera’s was cleared for the training camp without resource consent and how many native snails were killed.

The writing is on the wall for schoolchildren – a report says nearly 60 per cent of teachers do not teach writing effectively in all the areas they should.

    So what’s new?

“Which it must if the Labour Party is to be politically destroyed.”

It’s never occurred to me that Labour could be destroyed but if there’s ever been a time to be possible, it’s now.

The entire electorate in all it’s shapes and forms and ideologies has every reason to abandon the socialists… if those reasons have sunk in.

Labour are unravelling the final threads of democracy in this country and should never be allowed access to treasury seats again.

If they ever do they might as well put on uniforms and goose step.

‘Heil Helen’ sounds like it could catch on very easily.

He’ll need to take the hint or it’ll be the Labour party lash. Maybe the latter appeals.

Bugger the reshuffle – if the Hurricanes leave Jimmy Gopperth out of their annual reshuffle today I’m going to start watching badminton…if there is any on TV that is…

Gopperth, for all his foibles, is the best first five eighth in the Hurricanes system, but the word on the street is he’s gone.

Just a little rant about the media referring to an “accidental discharge” in relation to the incident in Afghanistan where those two Kiwi soldiers were shot.

THere is no such thing as an “accidential discharge” in the military. The terminology is “unauthorised discharge”.
Accident implies a certain non-culpability. That is not the reality. The soldier(s) involved may expect to be disciplined and disciplined severely.

Helen wasted half a million on a narrow inquiry into Phillip Field and was okay with him until he suggested he might stand as an independent next election; she was okay with Benson-Pope lying until he didn’t keep her in the loop; then this one: no comment on the police terrorist tactics until someone [the Maori Party this time] needles her about Mallard, so she confirms in the bit about ‘molotov cocktails and naplam’ – there’s this funny little boundary or no-go region – cross it and you are screwed, she lashes out – pity we don’t have an opposition politician or real journalist left who can zero in on it and see if she’ll implode.

Hey llew, October been pretty good in our part of nz. I got that info from the moonman long range weather forecaster. he has interesting points to make on weather etc. The effect of the moon’s gravitational pull on our airmasses.

and perhaps for debate – how about the effect of the gravitational pull of the lined-up planets in 2012 on the earth’s molten rock under the wafer-thin crust? Increased volcanic activity pouring huge quantities of ash and smoke into the atmosphere, cutting out most sunlight and making temperatures plummet for months and years. Holy guacomole – and we are worrying about global warming?

I’ve heard and read numerous times that tax cuts would mean cuts in services (e.g. educations, health care etc etc). It’s been a pro-Labour argument for quite a while, used to scare people and undermine the opposition, positioning them as uncaring, money-grubbing, etc etc.

So then to your average New Zealander, how do explain this?

    http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/1/story.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10473107
NZ Herald – Schools’ cash cuts to hit parents. One in four Auckland schools will have their funding cut next year, and parents will be expected to make up the shortfall.

You sit on huge surpluses YET make cuts too? WTF?!? The crafty decile system has put schools like West Auckland’s Laingholm Primary on par with schools in Remuera. Huh?!?

I’m starting to think NZers are a bunch of mindless sheep. What exactly does it take to get people motivated to take a stand in this country? Oh yah, GE and nuclear power. That was probably enough for a while. Schools? Child cancer wards? Can’t be bothered.

Have a read of the article too. Great quote by the Minister. Essentially he says ‘deal with it.’ Nice.

Thanks for listing the Hurricanes squad I have been trying to find it elsewhere.

Being from HB it is good to see Michael Johnson there and hard to believe Taumololo dipped out. Didn’t he and Newlands destroy the Wellington scrum after Tialata left the field yet the other Wellington props are there. I thought Giddens (the midfielder) was stiff to miss the draft – he was as good as any I saw anywhere at the end of the season in perticular.

TMC at 11.05 a.m. raised an interesting point.
It seems that school principals should have encouraging parents to understate their income in the census forms. That way their school would drop a decile point or two and the school’s funding would improve.

And in the absence of todays General Debate

Anyone notice how in the name of managing drugs and terrorism our civil liberties diminish further and further.

Now National propose that simply by suspecting someone of a crime which may result in a prison sentence – police be able to collect DNA.

Already suspicion of drug offences is used to gain entry to premises without a warrant, now it’s to be DNA as well. What this effectively means is that police will go through anyone’s house or DNA if they profile that person as

    1. unfriendly to police in general or themselves in particular – using this as the basis of suspicions about them (seeing lack of trust in the police as a sign of drug induced paranoia – self fulfilling evidence)
    2. a rival for a female
    3. a dissident

Anyone with any brain knows that with this sort of power police can easily intimidate anyone – simply by suggesting that they are prepared to fit someone up.

It all reinforces policing by profile rather than by evidence and policing surveillance of the general public, not such offenders.

It means that the HRA is being undermined as profiling (are discriminatory attitudes technically banned by by the HRA making a come back?) against anyone of a status (unemployed, unmarried, unchurched) or race (ethnic minority) or political creed etc can be backed up by checks premised on “suspicions”

Already police are citing evidence supplied by an “anonymous” informer to get warrants … and they now don’t have to bring this “person” forward in court Where will it end. What if they just make it up, have somone make it up for them as a favour (diversion) or gather the info by an unwarranted sound survelliance (breach of due process) …
