      Some States give them Drivers Licence’s so its possible they could Register to Vote using those as photo ID.
      Some States also require a Social Security number and some, but not many, also want Proof of Citizenship
      Also they get counted in the Census.
      In Congress, each seat is allocated by population so its theoretical a State could pick up extra Congress seats.
      That can make a big difference
      We have seen some States lose seats as people migrate to other States

      I read that in the UK the Johnson administration passed a law requiring ID to vote. Boris went to vote at some local election yesterday and was turned away because he didn’t have an appropriate ID.

Hi folks, I have made this guide for anyone wanting to complain about the One News/Verian poll item of April 29. Deadline for complaints to TVNZ is 20 working days from April 29. TVNZ deserve thousands of complaints for the shameless lies and propoganda presented as news.

(The big standout fraud IMHO is they presented a snapshot poll as decisive with the real election still about 3 years away! Plus this is a news item not an opinion piece, yeah right)

Maiki Sherman:

(ACT got 8.6% of votes in the 2023 general election, so a fall to 7%, even in the real world, could not be rightly described as free fall. )

“Winston Peters is plummeting with his party down to 4% so there it is, a nightmare poll for the coalition government which has been in power for just 5 months.’’

In the go-kart scene, Maiki says: “Just 5 months in the driver’s seat, National is hitting speed bumps, NZ First is booted from Parliament and the ACT party continues to take a licking.’’

4. Speaking with Simon Dallow, Sherman says: “This poll will absolutely rock the entire parliament. You will have MPs from political parties across the spectrum sending “OMG What’s up’’ messages to their caucus group chats right this very minute and the reason is that this is largely unprecedented – to have a new coalition government just 5 months into power polled out of power is almost unheard of.’’

    They wouldn’t lose any seats. Every seat they hold is for an electorate and, as long as they won all those electorates, they would still have just as many seats.

      Yes they would, the parliament would be 120 seats not 123, this e seats must come from somewhere, TPM will get the same amount of seats but they have 4%, that extra 2% is coming from somewhere, where ever that 2% comes from who loses the 2% will lose seats, I suggest it will come from Labour

        Some, right or wrong, accused Auckland police of bias over the clash between Posie Parker supporters and LGBTQ people. This adds relevance to police use of an unusual meaning for “youth” as a noun.
        
        Non-standard use of the noun “youth” by the police in the instance discussed here and in General Debate last night was: either sloppy word use; or it opened the possibility of a sought person being of indeterminate gender; or it expressed a position on gender politics.
        
        “Youth” as an adjective has long covered both young males and young females. It generically means “the young”.
        
        “Youth” as a noun, however, mainly, and almost overwhelmingly, refers to young males.
        
        There’s been a trend in our legislation to use “young persons” in place of “youth”. I’m guessing this is because “youth” as a noun is regarded as generally meaning just young males.
        
        On its Justice Department web site, the Youth Court uses “youth” as as an adjective, and refers to those who appear before it as “young persons”.

Kepler in 1619 discovered planetary orbits were eliptical. ALL scientists didn’t believe him. He asked them numerous times to come and look through his telescope and see, but they wouldn’t and refused to be swayed from the consensus that they were circular.

  These events are going to happen- although that one was exacerbated by the Tongan Volcano.

Just reflecting on Julie Anne Genter….

YouTube contains many of her questions in Parliament between 2012 and 2017. She devoted five years to attacking Transport Ministers for building motorways instead of cycleways.

This is one example, but you can use up your entire Saturday watching more. 😂

She was particularly angered by the Transmission Gully motorway, claiming that it would result in net economic costs. It took me two minutes to locate the analysis that shows that the Wellington northern corridor will have positive benefits.

Bizarrely, she claimed that trucks and emergency vehicles would not be able to reach Wellington in an earthquake because “the grades are too steep”. 🙄🙄😳 (She might want to visit Arthur’s Pass. She can stand at the lookout and watch the trucks climb the Otira Viaduct 😂.)

Also, she has a track record in Parliament of quoting from obscure “experts” to support her arguments that cycleways will deliver more benefits than motorways.

Why am I telling you this?

Firstly, my hypothesis is that she is angry and frustrated at a government coming to office and resuming rational transport projects.

Secondly, when she had her tantrum in Parliament, she demanded that the National MP “Read the report!”. She made many such demands between 2012 and 2017, tabling in Parliament study after study that apparantly substantiated her beliefs in the evils of motorways.

More seriously, as a small country, New Zealand cannot afford to have transport policy upended every time the government changes. When JAG finally gained power as Associate Transport Minister she ruined any prospect of progressing Wellington transport by insisting that “rapid transit” should be central to Let’s Get Wellington Moving, despite an initial study showing that the costs of light rail would exceed benefits by a factor of 20. 😭😭😭

  A very good reason why the current government needs to get moving real quick on their motorway projects. They have already used up 1/6 of this term. The whole implementation process, including letting contracts and starting the work needs to be done before the end of 2025.
  
  At least in the past, once contracts have been let and work started the work continues. But will that be the case in the future?
  
  The cancellation of the ferry contract after it had been let (I think) might result in the other side doing the same, especially if the actual construction work has barely started.

    An interesting read is Peter Fitzsimmons book on the construction of the Sydney opera house
    The NSW labor government knew they had to get construction underway because the opposition was dead against it and wanted to cancel the project
    Stage 1 was built beyond a point of no return even though it required substantial rework
    There was all manner of controversy, but work ploughed on and now they have a fabulous asset for the harbour

        Is it that all information that comes from sources that are no longer linked to Wikipedia is to be considered false information?
        Is it that all information from a Russian registered website is to be considered false information?
        Are you working with any epistemic rules at all or are you just throwing dust and smoke into the air to stop people from looking at stories contrary to your own?
        Everyone has to consider the reliability of sources, but these are matters of degree not certainty and they should be determined by the source’s reliability over time not by their political alignment.
        Listening to other parties’ perspectives is essential. Just relying on what the MSM tells you about Russia (China, North Korea, the Houthis, Hamas etc. etc.) is just as stupid as relying on Hezbollah to tell you everything you need to know about Israel.
        Check different stories from different perspectives, cross reference them across time for similarities, differences, inconsistencies and gaps.
        If you are unwilling to learn the techniques of mental self defence then you are just asking to be fooled.

Will the centre hold?

I’ve been mulling this over a lot the last couple of weeks, with some trepidation. The portents do not appear good. By chance, I was reminded today of the powerful poem “The Second Coming”, written by William Butler Yeats after the end of WWI, in which he also asked the question. The poem is often quoted when people talk of social change.

In light of this, I came across a very thoughtful/disturbing reflection by an American woman, Jody Tishmack, taking Yeats as her starting point. She is deeply concerned by both the left and right factions in the USA, but her words can equally apply to any Western country, including ours. She holds out some hope, but it is fragile, and I strongly recommend reading the article.

So another new allegation against Julie Anne Genter.

This time man-handling a different shop owner.

Will there be more allegations? Asking since Ms Genter clearly has “bullying” and/or anger issues. Leopards don’t change their spots etc.

Anyway Ms Genter should resign. Because these events are happening now as an MP (not in the past before entering Parliament).

For balance, it would be in Ms Genter’s best interests to step aside, for own health and well-being. Clearly she is not coping with the stress of being an MP and in Opposition.

And as Winston Peters observed yesterday, the Green Party leadership are also culpable by not decisively dealing with their own MP’s when they are under stress. The Green Party leadership need to step up, support Ms Genter but also act to prevent Ms Genter further spiraling downwards by letting her go, and allow her to recover.

  Although this later incident with Ms Genter was not brought up on the radio show (that I know of as didn’t hear all of it) , I found her believable.
  Where as Ms Genter is not.
  She needs to go.

I frequently watch the presidential race odds on Betfair.
I saw Trump’s odds drop to $2.20 12 weeks ago. Then the various law suits saw him weaken in the market to $2.34.
But over the past few days he has dramatically shortened to $2.16.
Maybe those spurious law suits are working to Trump’s advantage.

  The judge threatened him with prison for breaking the silence rite he slapped on him, Trimp came straight out of the court and called the judge corrupt, he is begging the judge to put him in prison, he knows exactly what he is doing.

There are 47 convicted murderers in New Zealand prisons who have served more than two decades of their life sentences without being granted parole.

Between them, they have killed 53 people – children, wives, family members, associates, strangers.

Yet another Genter Fender bender!

Simon Woolf, formerly a Wellington city councillor, now with the Greater Wellington Regional Council, alleged an incident in 2019 where he was photographing an event, in a personal business capacity, outside Parliament. Genter was attending as associate transport minister. Just a few months earlier Lets Get Wellington Moving had been launched, sparking heated debate about cycleways and mass rapid transit.

Woolf said Genter “came right up to my face and complained bitterly about the slow progress with the city council and the cycleway implementation. I had to tell her three times that I wasn’t there as a councillor, I had two cameras around my neck, and that I was there as a photographer”.

Being an old codger I an often mystified by new titles. Seen DEI tossed around and wondered what it meant ? So found meaning of what it meant then saw an article about the appointment of new acting State Services Commissioner appears she had been the DEI Head in the Commission. I read the DEI statement on the Commission website all I can say is that I am pleased I have been long retired, interesting no mention of competency, ability etc.
I took the opportunity to read the resume of the various Commissioners.
Frankly we are doomed. Governments of any colour does not matter, they have no power
nothing will change.
Academia, Public Service, Education has been taken over.
Would strongly recommend that youngsters who have not been brain washed yet bugger off.

Protest in the streets, protest outside parliament, but leave people alone in their own house

A short, sharp protest outside the Auckland residence of Foreign Minister Winston Peters last night was aimed at hitting him with messaging around the plight of Palestine and then getting away before police turned up.

A group of around 30 people gathered for five minutes in the suburban St Mary’s Bay street, waving placards and shouting demands through a megaphone before slipping away.
