Spamming Bastards
April 23rd, 2008 at 10:52 am by David FarrarSigh – my e-mail address has been used on some spam which has gone out far and wide. I don’t think it is personal – this happens every year or so – they generally pick a random e-mail address to use.
But what it does mean is that my inbox is getting a few dozen bounces a minute. Fun.
I seriously think that if I ever met a spammer in real life, and could get away with it, I’d happily shoot them. They try and destroy everything good about the Internet.
No jury would ever convict me!

I get that a lot, too. Given up worrying about it.

Bill Manhire has been sending me a couple of hundred emails a day on how to meet sexy asian woman online and cure my problems with erectile disfunction. I felt strangely uncomfortable sharing an elevator with him in the library recently.

I actually think it should be compulsory to shoot spammers. Failure to do so should be an offence.

Agreed.
I had the same thing a few weeks back
I can handle the std 50 or so spam emails I get every day – but few dozen bounces an hour is just annoying !

Whats you email setup DPF? If you have a dedicated server then the setup could be awry…
If its hosted by an ISP, then their setup is stuffed….

No no No shooting is to good for them They should be strung up in the town square and we should all have the opportunity of firing darts into them so they die a slow and agonising death.
And the same should apply to all criminals. And dont think Im kidding Im deadly serious.
This would reduce the future incidents as the perps would be wiped out in time.

Gmail is great (excellent spam filtering). Get your email auto-forwarded to there. You can add your actual address(es) to Gmail and even post from there with one of your other addresses. Gmail has both POP and IMAP options now as well.

agree with ross. i use gmail/imap and it’s A+ for blocking spam.

What is annoying is when you get spammed by your own email address that has been harvested somewhere by a spammer. I get that every so often at work.

I’ll filter ya domain for free. We have this bounce attack happen every week or so, our service stops most of it. Left you a message on msn if you are keen.

better than @gmail is hosting your own domain within google apps (free version has plenty capacity for most people)
= 1. all the functionality of gmail, but your own domain
2. import ongoing emails to your old addresses into gmail using pop
3. access your emails using web or imap or pop
4. you can have multiple domains hosted within the one account
5. also integrated with other google apps eg docs, calendar, google talk, etc
i moved to this setup over christmas after forwarding my emails to @gmail for a few years and have found my new setup to be much more elegant

I understand the DIA has recently concluded a number of good-sized spammer busts. (I am not sure whether “concluded” means they have got convictions, or just police arrest/seizure warrants.)
So for what it’s worth, there must be less of it around now than there would otherwise have been…

Shoot them? No way. First it’s lit matches under the finger/toenails, then said nails off with a pair of pliers, then the old hand drill through the kneecaps, a bit of time on the rack, some waterboarding, then…oh shit, I’m starting to sound like D4J!

If I said that here I would get enough demerits for a two month ban. Why do I bother.
I deleted your insane comment from my blog buggerlugs !! What a crackpot coward.
