Disgraceful
August 26th, 2008 at 3:24 pm by David FarrarThat is the politest word I can find for Margaret Wilson’s interference in the House today, where she stopped Rodney Hide even finishing his questions in relation to incredibly serious matters. She played partisan politics to protect the Government.
It is a new low for Parliament in my opinion.
I will blog the transcript when it comes out.

Worst. Speaker. Ever.

Kimble – until today, I placed Wilson second behind Dr Gerry Wall as the worst Speaker in my memory (dating back to the early 1970′s). However today, she has even exceeded the late Dr Wall’s ineptness.

She must be removed. National and ACT should not sit in a Parliament she is chairing.
Vote:August 26th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
It must be about time we changed the way the Speaker is selected.

While I could understand the sub judice bit, isn’t taking Winston at his word a bit like trusting your bank account to Bridgecorp? She lost it and I can’t wait to see the Hansard of what Hide launched into as he was dragged kicking and screaming from that cesspit that used to be the highest court in the land…yet another great reason not to vote Labour

I can’t believe she actually called him fat.

I have previously stated that Margaret Wilson obviously favours Labour and their allies. She fails to force labour mp’s to answer questions, and berates national mp’s when they object.
I’ve only listened to parliament for the first time this year. At least, from observing Wilson, is that she is allowed to be biased. If she is not supposed to show bias, then she should not be in that job.
In my opinion Wilson is a fraud, elected to parliament on a list, goes ahead and makes massive changes (banning the privy council) that noone ever voted for, then given cushy roles by her pyjama party mates.

She actually looked ashamed. Peter’s was shaking terribly. He was clasping his hands together to try and stop the shaking but it was obvious.
Vote:I blogged on this in a similar vein to you David. We are left speechless by the venal lying by peters and the speaker aided and abetted by Cullen following her lead.
A complete and utter disgrace by three list MP’s. Unelected fuckers, and they are all laughing at us.

Any sign of even mild outrage from Labour-Lite – or will the glare of golden opportunity be too much for them to capitalise on ?

Brownlee’s point of order was interesting. If a member is taken at their word, and Hide stated in the prelude to his question that the matters addressed were not sub judice, who’s word is being taken?
The silver lining is that this should serve to highlight these issues in the media, especially the conduct of the speaker. She is hopeless.
Cullen made an analogy to parliament being like a game of rugby, with the speaker as the referee. Of course in Rugby the ref is neutral. Where is Peter Van Zyl when you need him!

I’m with you DPF – this was a new low. AQnd considering the depths to which the 48th Parliament has plumbed at tiumes, that is saying something!!

Anyone have a link to what happened?
I’ve been out and am in the dark.
I’ve checked the usual ‘news’ sites and found them (as usual) missing in action.

This was a sad day for democracy in New ZEaland.
Her unwillingness to have Peters tell the house just what it was that was sub-judice showed an unacceptable level of naivety. She also erred, as Gerry Brownlee pointed out, by taking the word of Peters that the issue in the first question was before the courts, but not taking the word of Hyde that the issue in his supplementary was not! Futher, the crassness of sullen Cullen in shouting out ‘how much are you getting paid’ to Hyde was certainly out of order – a fact she somehow managed not to rule on!
If any one in a civilised country were to look at this broadcast, they could only conclude that this was the parliament of a banana republic. Luckily it’s not true, we are, today, a milk republic!

I nearly shit when Cullen started talking referee’s………………. have we ever had a more useless speaker than this woman? Barely in parliament before she assumed the seat from the fattest white man to ever have the job, I see a few years walking on hampstead heath has not helped him shift any of that weight.

After today’s performance, she should choose whichever euphemism she likes; ‘sick leave’ ‘limb replacement leave’ or whatever, and stand down until the election.

She is a shameful excuse for a person who sits in a the highest Court in the land. She has bought the House into disrepute and should be censured by the Priviledges Committee
Oh I forgot The Parliament is no longer able to be bought into disrepute It is already in disrepute as regards thinking citizens
A squalid cess pit of the most vile evil feral and venal pond life. May they live in interesting times

What’s the coincidence between NZ1 supporting the ETS and this occurring today? I bet Clark said to him “support the ETS and I’ll support you. Don’t support the ETS and I’m cutting you loose and you’re fuc*ed”.
She wants that job in the UN *that* badly.

If I was sitting on Nationals side of the house I think I could put up with the bias of Wilson, I could put up with the way that Peters wastes the houses time but I COULD NOT put up with being lectured to by Micheal Cullen in his best school teacher mode about ethics.

Ahh the so called ‘scampi affair” yet another tale of massive political and civil service corruption that has been covered up on the watches of both Socialist and Nat government.
If every a country needed a Commission for Uncovering Corruption and Bribery it is NZ.
Theres enough work to keep a panel of 3 members of the Judical Committee of the Privy Council going for years.
Time the white wash was removed and the unvarnished truth exposed. The carefully cultivated myth that is a sham

I’m speechless. The corruption that permeates Parliament has reared its ugly head for all to see. It is now the job of the media to give this event the headline status it deserves, and to ensure that viewers are correctly shown the links between the DELIBERATE misconduct of the Speaker, the corruption of the Foreign Minister and the complicity and underhandedness of Cullen & Clark.
Surely this is the final straw. Surely.
