Interesting to see how the free-speech advocates in right-wing blogosphere will respond to this. Seems pretty quiet actually. Funny that.

When is it acceptable to state a blood libel against a people?

Sweden knowingly supports terrorists with humanitarian aid knowing that their monies assist the terrorists to use their monies for terrorist purposes because their income stream includes the Swede’s monies.

Therefore Sweden knowingly supports terrorism and anti semitism.
But where is the UN in this?
Doing the same and giving those terrorists a voice and vote in the UN and even committee posts.

Dunno about you guys, but I’m a lifelong cricket fan of NZ, and is anyone else starting to get sick to fucking death of the Black Caps performances?
The only players that are consistently reliable IMO are Ryder, Taylor and Vettori (Vettori is the star of the team by a mile).

Oram, Mccullum-two most overrated players in the country. You can count on them to choke when the pressures on.

The Swedish press were pretty disgusting – publish an unchecked racist conspiracy theory as though it was fact.

What was worse was that the Swedish politicians refused to comment.

At the presentation I went to on Wednesday by Labour Minister for Media (and Digital Broadband), Stephen Conroy, he didn’t state what official policy would be, but that it would be seen as totally unacceptable by the Australian Labor Government.

However, I imagine the previous NZ Labour Government, and current opposition would have been pretty silent if such a thing occurred locally. We have already seen their reaction to the ‘hate fest’ that was the UN anto racism forum.

The difference between Australia’s Labor and NZ’s Labour is chalk and cheese. I get the feeling that there is a similarty to NZ cricket. If Marcus North was a NZer – he would be tossing the coin rather than Vettori. If Senator Conroy was NZ Labour, he would be the Leader of opposition.

Sean – In Law there is a thing called Libel. You can’t publish lies in the press, without exposing yourself to risk of being sued.

So what if the lie is racial vilification? Whether it’s against Jews, Muslims, Maori, Aborigine or whoever, the press have a responsibility to check their facts.

Everyday about 1000 new conspiracy theories will appear on the internet. Some on this blog! But people clearly hve a responsibility in the information that is published. And a national newspaper surely has more responsibility.

Lets be clear – this is not a “criticism” of Israel’s policies or action. It is a blatantly racist lie presented as fact.

“Lets be clear – this is … a blatantly racist lie presented as fact.”

Which is the standard Israeli response whenever something like this is floated. Whether the issue is about the actions of the IDF or the settlers or the Israeli govt, it’s always “a blatant racist lie presented as fact.” Another aspect to the standard response is that immediately something like this arises, all the Israeli supporters, from diplomats to politicians to journalists to bloggers, aggressively defend in unison, the allegations. Almost like it was a designed propaganda offensive.

In this particular case, I’d be surprised if something like this were true, notwithstanding the allegation is linked to those arrests in NY.

What surprises me however, is that it never seems to occur to the said Israeli supporters, that the best way to deal long-term with these issues, is to stop giving the world the impression that you are indeed, a bunch of blatant racist liars. That of course involves not words, but actions.

Your continual justification is that your actions are necessary because you’re surrounded on all sides by a seething cauldron of hatred. Has it never occurred to you that this was exactly the same justification used by South Africa to defend apartheid. Do you not see the parallels? Those who don’t learn from history, are condemned to repeat it. So far, you haven’t given the world any indication that you have observed, and you have learned.

So Reid – do you honestly believe Israel was harvesting organs? Why should there be double standards about what can be written in the Press about Israel, and what gets written about other countries.

Apparently (according to you) stories which tell lies about Israel don’t need to have their facts checked. And apparently because Israel defends the allegations they must be true (in your words).

Excuse me for interrupting the Israel – Sweden thing, it is very interesting. I just want to pop in a couple of quotes so we don’t forget like we are expected to:

“The Labour Government has shown utter contempt for New Zealanders and the democratic process with its plan to railroad the anti-smacking bill through Parliament.
The Labour-led Government knows the measure is deeply unpopular, so it plans to act against the wishes of the majority of Kiwis and ram the bill through under urgency. This is a deeply cynical abuse of power as Labour tries to clear the decks of this controversial issue. Helen Clark has refused to let her MPs vote the way they really think on this bill. To ram it through under the cover of urgency shows just how out of touch her government has become….”

“I simply believe it is bad law for Parliament to pass a piece of legislation outlawing an activity absolutely, and then expect the Police not to prosecute minor breaches.”

“the way you send a message is to make the law clear and precise and then to police it strongly and vigilantly. My colleague, Whanganui MP Chester Borrows, has put forward an amendment to Sue Bradford’s Bill that would do this. In my view, this is the correct response, and the one Parliament should adopt.”

Not looking for debate, just quoting someone. Thanks.

TimG_Oz – in case you hadn’t noticed, the question I am raising is about free speech, not whether it is true or not (or even if it is “racist” or not as you keep on harping about). I mean, I doubt the prophet Mohammed ever had a bomb in is turban (therefore that comment could equally be termed as untrue and racist). What is of interest if of those so-called free speech sdvocates that so resoundly defended Jyllands-Posten and Southpark are actually going to condemn their ideological allies for the same behavior. So far, it seems not.

Sean there is a difference between a cartoon paroding support by a certain members of a religion that support blowing civilians up and a newspaper righting a story about organ harvesting.

This wasn’t an opinion piece it was a media story published in a mainstream paper that is likely to be believed by dumb arses like yourself.

Criticise Irsael as much as you like, hell even join the Reid bandwagon.

But don’t try and represent pure anti-semitism as fact and justify it as free speech. This is no different than Arab state television having childrens cartoons showing Jews eating children.

“The publicly funded Multicultural Center’s (Werkstatt der Kulturen) decision to remove educational panels of the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Hajj Muhammad Amin al-Husseini, who was an ally of Adolf Hitler, from a planned exhibit, sparked outrage on Thursday among a district mayor, the curator of the exhibit, and the Berlin Jewish community. ”

One of these is a proven truth but the left wing media doesn’t like to discuss it. The other is at best an unproven suggestion at worst a link to a blood libel that has caused the deaths of thousands of Jews, but the left wing media is happy to publish it as the truth and incite race hate.

I’ve quickly read the story about the alleged death threats against Sue Bradford.
It saddens me for several reasons.
I don’t agree with her politics. I don’t think she’s honest; I have good reason to believe that she is a manipulator (policemen have told me that in the old Sue-at-the-barricade-days she cynically used to cry out about being hurt when she knew the cameras were on her, and she wasn’t).
But back to the Sunday Spews story: I hold it very precious that in this country we can have political debate and disagreement without anyone’s life being threatened. It is precious to me that our politicians, no matter who they are or what party they belong to, can walk the streets, go into restaurants, churches, bookshops without fear to their lives or wellbeing. Friends I have overseas have difficulty believing that our politicians are not shadowed by regiments of armed guards wherever they go; or that our Governor-General can wait in a queue at a cafe in the South Island, like an yone else.
We don’t kill our political enemies here.
And more than that: killing or harming Sue Bradford would turn her into a martyr.

He was being accused by some twerp on BBC of starting a new arms race, the cold war was brought up, to which Netanyahu responded “the Soviets never placed their ideology ahead of their survival” that radical Islam was a different enemy and needed different tactics.
The extreme left, which I would include SOME of the greens and Labour are exactly the same, they see their ideology as absolute truth and everybody else as absolutely wrong. They would tax until there was not a bean left and they would “engineer” society until it fell to bits in a screaming heap, which of coarse would be all our fault for not submitting to the “way”.
You would have more luck convincing a radical Muslim they were wrong than a radical left winger.

Southern Raider – apparently the “twit” (is that the correct name for someone who uses Twitter??) has been “outed” here:

Here are some of the main points they use.

“On Twitter, someone recently wrote this

@suebr is STILL a good candidate for NZ’s first political assassination. (watch sue run to the Police because of a death threat, stupid cow).”

(Is that really a death threat?)

“The person who wrote this goes under the name Kiwi1960. I thought that sounded familiar. A person underthe name of Kiwi1960 has said stuff like this before.”

(“Stuff like this before” sounds scientific…….)

“I blogged about Kiwi 1960 and his mates some time ago after Helen Clark got a brick chucked through her electorate office window.”

(Is he saying that Kiwi1960 threw the brick?)

“Kiwi1960 is Henk van Helmond, and on this site he called Sue Bradford a communist.”

(I thought she was a Marxist.)

“Sue Bradford, you have my Email address, please provide me proof of these death threats, because even if you said the world was round, I’d still think it was a lie because of the mouth it came out of.”

    (Fair point.)

“Nasty piece of work, isn’t he?”

    (Pretty average I thought.)

Nice beat up (scuse the pun) by Bradford, now most of the Standard is all over it claiming the right are all violent thugs and the left are all tree hugging, Woodstock progeny. I appreciate that point. Some of those commenters make one feel as if you’re swimmimg in sewage.

Generally the site owners give me a fair go.

However, they’re sticking it to Kiwiblog.

It drives them nuts that we post on unapproved ideas here and they can’t stop us.

    Southern Raider says:

Sean you obviously struggle with the basics of truth.

    - do some Muslims blow up civilans?
    - does the IDF harvest Palestinians for organs?

One of these is a proven truth but the left wing media doesn’t like to discuss it. The other is at best an unproven suggestion at worst a link to a blood libel that has caused the deaths of thousands of Jews, but the left wing media is happy to publish it as the truth and incite race hate.

SR, perhaps the question might have been:
    - do some Muslims (terrorists) blow up civilians? (A = Yes)
    - do some Israelis (IDF soldiers) blow up civilians? (A = Yes)

I’d suggest both activities might somehow, for some reason, “incite racial hatred” in a reaction on behalf of those blown up.

Perhaps both sides who are doing it might give some thought to its effects.

Even if one imagines one side or the other’s actions are “justified” in the name of state security. But they are civilians after all, in BOTH cases, aren’t they.

    Talk about the Double Standard.
Free speech is fine, so long as its about the virtues of socialism.

Talk about paradoxical, the Greens pretend to stand up for civil liberties on issues like the Zaoui case, yet they vote for the EFB?!?! What a joke, what a bunch of authoritarian nanny statists

EDIT: Why the fuck would Iain O’Brien walk in such a high stakes situation? Fucking hell

Again it would not surprise me to learn that some of those who pose as rightists are in fact leftists doing what they can to discredit Kiwiblog..”

Two new long-term studies that show many children have been subjected to violent physical punishment clearly illustrate the need for the repeal of Section 59 of the Crimes Act, the Green Party says.

“These studies, part of the Dunedin Multidisciplinary Health and Development Study, show that some parents are not deterred from beating their children so badly it results in long-lasting physical injury and emotional trauma, Green MP Sue Bradford says.
    [and]
“I look forward to seeing the results of the next stage of the study, which examines the long term effects of physical punishment on children.

“These two investigations will be very useful in informing the work of the Select Committee,” she says.
