A new approach to welfare

June 23rd, 2010 at 10:00 am by David Farrar

Dutch News reports:

The Frisian villages of Dongeradeel and Dantumadiel have come up with a novel way of cutting spending on welfare payments – encouraging jobless women to find a rich man, the Leeuwarder Courant reports on Tuesday.

The local social service departments are paying for the women to have a make-over in the hope they can hook up with a rich husband to support them, the paper says. If 70 women find a new husband, the council can save €400,000 on welfare payments.

The councils are putting €1,400 into each woman to have her hair done and get help with her image. They will also get their wardrobe updated and tips on social skills and presentation.

I await the announcement of a pilot here, by Paula Bennett!

    That’s right, because women are just reproductive assets who can be bought and sold. Certainly, it can never be the other way around. I hope these women know their place. {/sarcasm}

[DPF: I hope no one thinks I was seriously endorsing the concept]

But she never paid for a make-over. Have you seen some of the blowsy looking strumpets? Its a wonder anyone wants to shag them, let alone pay for it – must be real hard up.

America runs those schemes from time to time, most notably of late called Rock of Love. I can barely stand the advertisements for the show, so never tried watching it. That Dutch Council has ten women signed up for their plan so far. I’m sure a Gay Rights group will soon start calling the scheme discriminatory.

Wasn’t it the Dutch who recently considered sending welfare recipients into prostitution as a valid career path? They’re just so wonderfully progressive. Are any of them sane?

rock of love…almost sets a new benchmark in deeply ‘watchable’ crap/reality telly-shows..

the contestants are gargoyles…and you get to see them self-immolate…

    brilliant television….!

..not least because of the male lead…

    ..a deeply insecure rock bad-boy/little boy…

..acting out the archetype hetero-male fantasies…

    ..’tis multi-layered…

and if you watch any of those surf-save/airline/whatever ‘reality-shows…?

..they are the real crap of this genre…’cos they are so terminally boring…

..rock of love….is the real deal..

    (nb..rock of love:charm school…is utter crap…and to be avoided…)
