Has WCC Watch died?
July 12th, 2011 at 11:00 am by David FarrarI went to WCC Watch this morning to see if they had any extra info on the investigation of complaints by Rob Goulden against WCC CEO Garry Poole.
But no posts for the last six weeks, so I guess they have died. A pity. I didn’t like their anonymity, but did find some of their work useful.

Apropos of nothing, I noticed in the photo accompanying the story this morning that Garry Poole had undergone huge weight loss…

The ex-councillor who made the complaint is AFAIK a former police inspector. He was a minority ‘finge’ councillor who seemed to be frequently at loggerheads with other councillors and staff. Reading between the lines, he seems to have got some serious potential ‘dirt’ on the CEO (no doubt using his police learned skills). Apart from that minority fringe, it does seem that the current CEO has enjoyed the confidence of councillors during his tenure. Some people need to remember that Parliament / Government (and even courts eg Hanlon v Incercargill City Council) has imposed varied statutory duties on councils, and the CEO’s bear the brunt of ensuring they are carried out. Councillors rely on this – their job is to ensure that these duties are carried out. Hence councils and their CEO’s can come in for alot of flak from residents and the odd councillor for wasting money, not publicly notifying resource consent applications when there is no legal basis to notify them etc.
Perhaps the CEO is on the wrong side of the worst of bullying style ‘cop culture’.
