Yay

The Dom Post reports:

It is time for Wellington to party – and now it can rock all the way through to the finals.

The waterfront festivities have been extended, with Wellington City Council making an about-turn last night on its decision to shut the fanzone straight after the quarterfinals and put an end to Rugby World Cup celebrations.

Mayor Celia Wade-Brown said the fanzone would now show all four big matches after the quarterfinals, including the two semifinals on October 15 and 16, the bronze final on October 21 and the final on October 23

Excellent, one back-down I thoroughly approve of.

Still no explanation as to who decided that Wellingtonians didn’t care about the semis and final.

Cr John Morrison, as Sports Portfolio leader, is responsible.

If he didn’t do anything about the situation before it hit the media headlines, he should have done something about it afterwards. If he can’t do the job he should resign and not rely on the Mayor and others to bail him out.

Really? I suspect you are the same Donald McGregor who wages war against most things Cr John Morrison does and as such I think your support of the current Gween Mayor (and equal dislike for anything to do with Cr John Morrison) has clouded the facts.

According to Cr John Morrison (when he was interviewed on TV last night), he knew nothing of this decision in advance as it had been made by the Mayor and it was obvious to the viewer that he was totally blind sided by it. In fact, he expressed his annoyance that the Mayor had made this decision (to scrap the fanzone) without even talking to him (Morrison) about it.

The reality, of course is that the original decision was totally dumb and the reversal was only triggered when the Gween Mayor Celia Wade-Brown realised the enormity of her initial cock up. She even fronted the follow up TV clip, wearing an All Black jersey….. it was a rather pathetic attempt at a ‘mea culpa…..

Elaycee: Unfortunately, the facts don’t support your argument. All the information about “Festival of Carnivale”, whether the brochures or websites or newspapers show:

“The Festival of Carnivale will run from Friday 9 September to Sunday 9 October ….”

    http://www.wellingtonnz2011.com/festival/daily-programmes
    http://www.wellington.govt.nz/services/events/rwc/rwcfestival.html
    etc

There was no decision to scrap the fanzone!!!!! …. it was always scheduled to finish on the 9th of October.

I saw Cr Morrisons shabby performance on TV last night. He was either lying or incompetent …. neither a good recommendation to keep ones job.

Thank you Donald McGregor for confirming you are one and the same critic of anything and everything to do with Cr Morrison / a critic of the long overdue planned roadway extensions in Wellington / the same man who took a swipe at Cr Pepperell once (over Capacity) and ended up with your own face covered in egg / and the same keen supporter of Gween Mayor Celia Wade-Brown.

At least we can see your colours.

“I saw Cr Morrisons shabby performance on TV last night. He was either lying or incompetent …. neither a good recommendation to keep ones job.”

Lying? A big call – do you have any evidence or is this just bullshit? Do share…

Incompetence? If he was blind sided by Gween Mayor Celia Wade-Brown, then any such accusation of incompetence should be directed at her. Indeed, the fact that she emerged last night to do a ‘mea culpa’ was to save her own skin and not that of Cr Morrison. Even the TV interviewer recognised that she had cocked up – his first question was whether she had dropped the ball on this issue and got a response from CW-B (dressed in AB jersey and holding a RWC2011 ball) that, as she was holding a rugby ball, she hadn’t dropped it… Comedy Gold!

Shit – and I thought the only moron mayor in the country was in Auckland. Not so – there is a cloned dope in Wellington.

Elaycee. The evidence is in the interview and the above links …. which you just ignored.

Perhaps you will so kind as to present your evidence that says there was a Mayoral decision to cancel the fan-zone (Cr Morrisons statements don’t count as independent). Once you realise that that piece of information is false the whole story looks somewhat different. Morrison can’t have been blind sided by something that didn’t happen, now can he?

  8. Elaycee (3,507) Says:

Donald McGregor – you state Cr Morrison is telling porkies simply because his version of events cannot be deemed to be independent. Err…. using the same logic, you disqualify yourself, don’t you think?

You’re creating a smoke screen in an effort to avoid the salient point of this thread: If Gween Mayor Celia Wade Brown didn’t think that she had cocked this up in the first place, she sure as hell wouldn’t have have come out with a ‘mea culpa’ on TV last night, would she? Of course not.

Now stop trying to score cheap political points on this issue – because thats all you’re trying to do. You ongoing campaign against Morrison (plus a long list of other political opponents) is clear to anyone who wants to spend a few minutes on Google.

I think your biggest frustration is the fact that Morrison gets re-elected to Council. In fact, I suspect you may well be Gween with envy.

Yup – agree. Anyone can see the facts via Google.

At least the ‘about face’ last night by the Gween Mayor to extend the duration of the fanzone, will be welcomed by the good folk of Wellington.

Thanks what this thread was supposed to be all about.
