Those who inhabited the island in Oceania several thousand years ago probably possessed the land long enough to “claim” being indigenous, but they are still really just settlers or first occupiers.

ah yes…i see where you have been horribly misinformed as to be sadly mistaken.

It’s not that Maori are indigenously tangata whenua (people of the land).

It is that they, along with many other Pasifika nations, are Tangata o Te Moananui a Kiwa. A sea people indigenous to Oceania and the wider Pasifika region.

Sadly, this is something Maori choose to conveniently forget. Even when you remind them that ulitmately they whakapapa back to a canoe.

Not to worry though. I’m working to change that. Couple more generations should see us right.

Applying Taylor Series expansion on the relativistic equation for E above, at very small velocity v (Newtonian domain):

E = m0*c^2 (1 – (1 – (v/c)^2))

Simplifying the above:

E =(1/2)*m0*v^2

That’s classical Newtonian Kinetic energy.

My physics is a little rusty but I think your equation states that the relativistic kinetic energy is equal to the rest energy minus the total relativisitc energy thus giving a negative value for the kinetic energy which I’m not sure makes physical sense. Also I don’t think your taylor expansion is quite right and by my calculation simplifies to -m0v^2

E_k = m0c^2/sqrt(1-v^2/c^2) – m0c^2

(1-v^2/c^2)^(-1/2) approximates (1+1/2(v^2/c^2)) at low velocity giving

E_k = m0c^2(1+1/2(v^2/c^2)) – m0c^2 which simplifies to 1/2m0v^2

Actually, there is so much evidence that there were others here first that it’s embarrassing really to suggest otherwise.
This thing about Maori being the first is politically motivated.
For instance –

Despite the clear evidence, some archaeologists did not want to accept the story the bones told: that the accepted theory of human settlement in New Zealand from AD1200-1300 was incorrect. The method of ash layer dating was vigorously attacked, but intensive retesting found it to be sound. A vote at the 2002 Archaeological Association Conference was split – 27 voted for and 24 against early human arrival. There was eventually a majority consensus that humans had brought the rats to New Zealand in 100AD, but didn’t stay.

What’s even more interesting is the letters from locals that have been sent into eLocal magazine – from people who have no reason to lie – eg –

Rea Anderson of Pukekohe is of Ngati Tipa descent. Her family lived at Port Waikato for several generations. Now almost 70, Rea was raised by her grandmother Te Rewanga Wi Putini Kahui, known as Rewa. “She told me there was a very tall Pakeha race living at Port Waikato long before Maori. They were very fair. She had been told about them by her father and her grandfather. I met an old lady from the Chatham Islands. She told me how Maori sailed from Taranaki to the Chathams and killed the people. She said they were Moriori and she was of their descent. When she was a girl, she and her grandmother walked along the shore of the harbour and saw bodies that had been thrown in the water, uncovered in the sand. They buried them. Her grandmother told her that they were a tall, fair haired people, that they were there before the Maori. She said “my people didn’t fight. They were slaughtered.”

That’s oral tradition, and it’s not really that long ago time-wise.

This was happening up to and after the signing of the treaty. A treaty first signed by northland tribes who were concerned about utu over their raids south. The rest of the country had caught up in the arms race
That they would have continued warring without western intervention is beyond doubt Did the French or the English worry Maori?no not unduly they represented trade and wealth The total western population was around 2000 in early 1840 not a threat for the well armed Maori worriers

That the musket wars are ignored in discussion about the treaty and a boat load of lost French is held up as a reason to sign is lefty social propaganda at its it worst

Its not A document its a series of documents in both english and maori we do not know for sure which was the “real document”
The present translation used is a modern version biased to suit maorifacation

The whole thing should be returned to the shelf and ignored. It has to many dubious words to be taken as a legal foundation for this country

You should put up something positive there for your readers that’s going to be inspiring, like an image of Reagan, Thatcher, Einstein, Feynman, Heisenberg, etc,… You put those pictures on your site, then the younger generation readers of yours will want to emulate those political/intellectual giants.

See its a good thing, if you can inspire youngsters in your community for something positive like that. You do want success for PI youngsters but at the same time, you portray that the only way to achieve that is via thuggery like Che Guevara. You think that others owe us PIs? The word maori simply means people, so that is their way of describing themselves.

They actually belong to what we call the Polynesian peoples – but I am no anthropologist- and I am aware that DNA testing proves that these people originated in Taiwan – even today, there are great similarities to the indigenous people of Taiwan, who are actually second class citizens in their own land since the occupation by the Chinese from the mainland over the past several centuries.

However, Maori are a priveledged people in this country – perhaps they should invite their cuzzies over 😉

The solution is, stop the judging, on both sides.

“Rich pricks” whoever they are and apparently lots of Kiwibloggers probably are, according to the lefties, are judgemental, as far as social workers are concerned. Social workers really truly don’t get the compassion in the conservative perspective.

See but social workers are judging conservatives on a ridiculous untrue level, as well.

This is the fundamental talking-past mis-communication in this country and it happens on the Maori-European level as well, same dynamic, different arena.

The problem is, no-one is thinking of the children, in all of this.

If you want to put up someone on your blog, you could do no better than Sir Apirana Ngata, and link some of his writings. That man was a sterling Maori leader – Che Guevara was a piece of shit.
Back in history a little further, the two Maori chiefs who arranged the passive resistance at Parihaka – thats about 70 years before Gandi used passive restistance in India – he learnt from Parihaka.
They were real men and REAL Maori; able to stand tall alongside many of the European, American and other famous leaders of history..

The true facts are that the so called maori chief of Parihaka arent quite what you think they are.
2 months before they turned up at parihaka 1 of the men has been documented to a vicious crime in the north Taranaki,he fled when persued and turn up at Parihaka,hiding out he found passive resistance as a ruse to save his mana and skin ,sorry nothing so noble as you wanted him to be/
Also do you know where the greatest loss of life in battle in the history of this land was?
Not 1st or 2nd world wars, but was when waikato maori raided north taranaki and on one day 10,000 where clubed and eaten or slain ,this being a tame estimate and who stepped in too intervene ,the local ministers ,who where ignored,as the slaughter continued,never hear turia or hone talking about that,just the holocaust at Parihaka,where no-one was killed,just a horse stepping on a foot and some incarsination.

With Shearer leader and setting the tone of raising child poverty issues it looks like state asset sales and the economy are off the table and going to get a soft run by Labour, especially if the wimpy Parker gets the shadow finance role.

Afterall, Key only wants to sell the assets to build schools for the kiddies !

That’s a line Shearer could easily echo as co leader with Key of the new centrist movement cos let’s face it, Shearers legendary global aid expertise isn’t about showing where the money is or how it came to be. It’s just about spending it for social causes. Essentially promoting welfare to the less fortunate and we all know how well that goes down with kiwis at the mo eh ?

The other thing is, Shearers vote drawing appeal isnt to the swinging centre right winger that needs to be drawn back to the left, it’s to the swinging centre left winger the greens have siphoned off Labour and will continue to do so. Labour are now left with the hopeless task of trying to reconnect with a constituency that doesn’t see any benefit to aligning with it anymore.

I’d say chalk up a win to the VRWC on this farcical left wing leadership campaign.
