9,000 users
November 13th, 2012 at 4:00 pm by David FarrarThis week Kiwiblog had the 9,000th user registration, which is what allows someone to make a comment.
We’re also a few posts away from 24,000 posts and are up to 912,000 comments. We’ll need a party for the one million mark!
There are 4,565 different tags or topics also which is a bit disturbing!

Most of them from the left. ya know, milky & co.

Congratulations, David. That is quite a feat.

Well done David, you and the other fella who apparently is not allowed to be named are really dominating in NZ. Despite his points victory over the last few months it should be noted that you have been doing this since CB radio. +1 for stamina
Vote:November 13th, 2012 at 4:31 pm
So does the guessing start on how long to the 1,000,000th comment and who it will be from? Will there be a prize!
Vote:November 13th, 2012 at 4:32 pm
Impressive.
Yes, it is a huge commitment to keep any blog chugging away let alone one this size with the quanity and quality of posts it has on a regular basis. Enormous effort.
I’m very grateful for the very open forum you provide. It’s been informative, great experience, and often a lot of fun in the Kiwiblog community.
Cheers (in anticipation of a geographically inclusive 1m party).

Good on you DPF – I don’t know what I’d do without my regular visits to the sandpit to play!
I understand Whale Oil is bigger now, but you’ve always been a lot easier to read, long may it continue.
As others have said, Phil Ure and Redbaiter the First surely deserve an honourable mention at any pissup, as each of those two chaps in probably account for more of the comment count than any of the next ten put together.
Vote:November 13th, 2012 at 4:40 pm
Well done David…I dont know the explanation, but while Whale is apparently read by many more than KB I find the comments here an order of magnitude more informative and interesting…especially now Ure has, it would appear, had the fear of God put into him by WINZ, and has chosen not to continue to prove his ability to spend hours writing some semblance of English…as well as drive buses under two names of course…
As for the party for 1,000,000 comments, excellent idea!! I shall come off the wagon for the occasion…
Vote:November 13th, 2012 at 4:41 pm
By far the best political blog in NZ. Congratulations DPF.
Vote:November 13th, 2012 at 4:45 pm
You could host a fabulous party that served many functions
Creating community
Raising money for Fred Hollows
Loads of media coverage
Celebration of a fantastic achievement
And the all important ….fomenting of happy mischief
What say you?
[DPF: Actually I am planning a Kiwiblog Party for July 2013, when we will be 10 years old. Need to think about format for it and then may go out looking for some sponsors]

light moderation.
Vote:Interesting posts.
And a bedlam of commentators from all over the political spectrum.
Thanks DPF.

“I shall come off the wagon for the occasion…”
OK, just make sure you bring plenty of tissues.

Congrats, Not bad for a little read travel and arts blog as Whale once said
88,000 comments to go at say 600 per day? nearly 5 months to hit the big one.
Vote:November 13th, 2012 at 5:48 pm
Well done, you earned it DPF.
It is a great blog with a vast array of ideas and approaches. Many blogs tend to be an echo chamber of self affirmations and I find them boring. You are not overly zealous with your moderation, and that is the key to keeping things interesting.
Vote:November 13th, 2012 at 6:09 pm
Cool – love to help with the party in any way I can.
Vote:November 13th, 2012 at 6:14 pm
Russell, why dont you just fuck off? The only bigger pain in ass here is Penny.
But if you want to show up to the said party and discuss my views in person, I would welcome that opportunity. One so rarely gets to meet a truly hard man like yourself.
Vote:November 13th, 2012 at 6:18 pm
The question is, will there be fights at the party!
Vote:November 13th, 2012 at 6:18 pm
Seconded.
Vote:November 13th, 2012 at 6:19 pm
I just got my answer!
Vote:November 13th, 2012 at 6:26 pm
I have consistently found this to be the best and most readable political blog in New Zealand. I am not alone. It is required reading for the mainstream media if they want to know what is happening.
Vote:There are a few intemperate comments that resort to unneeded swearing and personal abuse but this a blog for the big people and if you cannot stand the heat……
Your moderation is light handed and it takes a lot to get a suspension or a ban. Long may that continue.
I am impressed by the sheer number of posts and the variety of topics covered.
I look forward to the 10th year birthday party.

I am assuming a Wellybum location tho.

“Oh, and of course I would never, ever, as a barrister and solicitor of the High One, even think of resorting to violence”
No, the usual course of action is to resort to tears and apologies, and then run off home.
Vote:November 13th, 2012 at 7:02 pm
Ya Beat me Rick, I was supposing the millionth would be something deep and meaningful like ” Fuck off Red”
Hold it, that is deep an meaningful and given how often its used stands a good chance

Ah, Russell…by God, it brings tears to my eyes, thinking of you on the breakout tong…back in 1953…so you’ll turn up to the party then? Oh, do say you will…

It would be interesting to just turn up and start chatting and see who can figure out who everyone is. I can see it now, civil discussion going fine, name revealed, then leaping across tables (or just through the air) with yells of ‘you sonofabitch!!
You can’t play that one though DG, you should have used a fake name.
The truth is, we’d all probably sit there like church mice occasionally giggling like school girls

DPF well done.
The relevance, consistency, clarity and insight of your blog is unsurpassed in the NZ political blogosphere.
Microsoft’s vision statement at one time was: “Empower people through great software, anyplace, any time and on any device”
I’ve always
wondered how much the consultants charged Microsoft for that onethought that was a brilliant cut-through to the real core. This is what you do extremely well DPF. And you make it look easy.
Well done.

Farrar says:
“We’re also a few posts away from 24,000 posts and are up to 912,000 comments. We’ll need a party for the one million mark”
This is about 45 comments for every single post , and as Barnsley Bill points out there is no comparison in quality with the other fellow
Vote:November 13th, 2012 at 8:28 pm
pq: ah…I think you will find that it was moi who observed that that quality of the comments here was far superior…
Where have you gone Red, you big chunky thing?

Though while fitting faces to familiar user names at a party would be fun, it might be disappointing.

Odour-proof underwear developed
Tuesday, 13, Nov, 2012 7:38PM
Underpants which claim to neutralise the smell of flatulence are proving a hit in Japan.
A Japanese textile company has developed a range of underwear which it says uses tiny ceramic particles to prevent unwelcome odours.
The company’s range has now expanded to 22 items, including socks that prevent feet from smelling and t-shirts that mask the whiff of sweaty armpits.
Business executives are apparently buying up the odour eliminating underwear, which was initially designed for sale to nursing homes and hospitals.

PE – yes, I’ve wondered sometimes but I agree, it would be impossible to maintain that sort of act for so long, keeping a straight face, and not blowing your cover.

I’ve recently become aware that ‘Redbaiter’ is in fact a long-running piece of performance art put together by a feminist collective based in a Parnell Road villa and subsisting entirely on funding from Creative New Zealand.
Vote:November 13th, 2012 at 9:34 pm
IMO Redbaiter normally posts relevant factors to calculate into today’s political mix, as do you all.
Why dispute anyone for doing that?

Red’s a good guy, once you get used to his foibles. If nothing else, he has a wonderful turn of phrase. He’s a vast improvement over the po faced Tories you usually get.
Vote:November 14th, 2012 at 8:11 am
Tom, RB is adept at cutting and pasting from his extensive library of quotes but if he tries to say anything original he flies to pieces, that’s probably why he avoids debating anything.
