Friday Photo: 5 February

Friday, February 5th, 2010 at 7:37 am

I’ve been thinking of wekas lately, so thought this might be a more topical subject. I liked the colours and textures of the feathers in this particular photo.

As always, clicking the image will take you to a larger version. And this morning’s coffee will be Kenyan :)

Friday Photo 22 January

Friday, January 22nd, 2010 at 8:01 am

I’m angling for a Kenyan coffee this morning, and in the meantime, here’s a photo of one of the ‘enemy’.

As always, clicking the image will take you to the bigger version. It’s an Australian paper wasp- an invasive vespid wasp that arrived sometime in the 1800s. Wiping out their nests should be a guilt free experience :)

Friday Photo 15 January

Friday, January 15th, 2010 at 7:36 am

I’m afraid I was a long way from the internet last Friday. So here’s two birds to make up for it.

Magpie Geese

These are Australian Magpie Geese. They were once common, but numbers have diminished due to habitat loss. I like this photo mostly for the fact that both birds are in focus :)

Hope everyone has a good day, whether you are at work or not. :)

Friday Photo 1 Jan

Friday, January 1st, 2010 at 8:49 am

This is almost a New Year’s photo from a couple of years ago. It took though until the 3rd to get the combination of light and cloud necessary for this glow.

The shot is pre-dawn and taken at Waiake on the Hauraki Gulf.

Waiake

Here’s hoping that this decade will be better than the last :)

Friday Photo: Jesus Bird

The Australian comb-crested jacana is also known as the Jesus bird for its ability to walk on water. It seemed an obvious choice for Xmas :)
