CNN head forced out by blogs

The CNN chief news executive Eason Jordan has quit his job due to controversy over his claim that coalition forces in Iraq were deliberately killing journalists.

On top of the outting of CBS’s Dan Rather, this is another indication of the growing powers of blogs in the US. This resignation may be even more significant though. With Rathergate the controversy started on the blogs but was carried on in the mainstream media quite forecfully. The Eason scandal has been almost totally ignored by the mainstrea media and has just festered away on blogs for a couple of weeks. Blog after blog called for release of the video tape of his remarks and I guess CNN finally worked out how bad it is for a news organisation to support a refusal to release it.

Instapundit has a good round-up. Also Jay Rosen.

Back in NZ all we can manage is a claim for partial credit in Pam Corkey’s show being terminated from TVNZ!
