I’m sure the Greens/Reds are working on a way to make earning over $60,000 illegal, David, ie. anything you earn over is immediately taxed because you don’t need that much. The typical socialist politics of envy, don’t ya love it?

That sort of nonsense from the left is no surprise and it arises from the presumption that tax is actually Government money to redistribute. They hate the idea of any of that redistribution finding its way to those they despise. If for a moment stopped to think that tax is actually a deduction from one’s hard graft, taken by coercion, it only makes sense that it out to be returned on a pro-rata basis.

Here’s the acid test for lefties, if tax were voluntary and had to be earned by the Government

And in a nutshell, the Green’s attitude to tax, as epitomised in this post, together with their worship of shonky science and their willingness to go soft on every assylum seeker they can lay their hands on will ensure that I do my bit at the next election to make certain that they remain a marginised party full of crackpots.

It’s rather simple. The Left assumes that all income belongs to the state — all of it. But the State is periodically nice and lets people keep some of it’s money. To want more of it is clearly greed since it’s the State’s money. And when the state gives it out it to others, what they receive are “entitlements”. To want someone else’s cash is an entitlement. To want your own is greed.

This post, admirably summing up the Greenies attitude to people like myself, struggling on while raising a family and paying almost half my salary in tax, helps to focus me on the reasons why I will do my bit at the next election to ensure the Greens remain a marginilised party of crackpot weirdos.

I’m no fan of the Green’s lack of economic sense, and frequently tell them so, but…

Taxation for income redistribution is not theft as many of the readers of this blog seem to think. Its the predictable outcome of democratic majority rule when income distributions are skewed as they invariably are.

Well, we are getting very exercised, aren’t we? I’m not sure how DPF can justify the claim that “the Greens display an arrogance about the source of taxpayer funds” – when the whole basis of our tax policy is to move the tax burden off work and enterprise, and all I was talking about was giving EVERYONE the same tax cut. Yup, a tax cut…

I’ll say it again: what the Greens propose is that EVERYONE gets the first $5,000 of income tax-free, which would mean that EVERYONE who earned at least $5,000 would get a tax cut worth something like $15 a week. Why is that envy politics? What’s wrong with the idea that everyone get a similar tax cut?

Right-wing nut jobs talk about the government and the state as though we lived in some kind of Stalinist totalitarian distopia. There are downsides to living in a society, bozo – things like obligations to your fellow citizens, accepting decisions of the majority that you don’t like, all that kind of stuff. If you don’t like the idea, go find an uninhabited island somewhere to live on.

Your society currently feels that the people with the most money are the ones that need to pay the biggest share. Suck it up, soldier! Quit your whining! The left doesn’t see your money as belonging to the state, it sees you, yes you, as having some obligations to the society you’re a part of. If you can find some country that doesn’t think the same way, go live there, but you’re going to have quite a search on your hands.

P.S. Feel free to keep the Greens a fringe party, us materialists don’t like them either.

While you have a point I wouldn’t exactly call those in the higher tax bracket ‘generous’. I thought taxes were coercion, therefore not voluntary, and so on.:-)

I personally think that those on lower incomes deserve far more credit. They may only pay 52% of tax, as opposed to a whopping 48% by the $60,000+ crowd, but taxes always hit them harder. Moral? This is one of the marketing problems of the ‘right’. They talk about the generosity of the $60,000+ folk, which is great and all, but I wouldn’t have thought it would be such a great idea to effectively offend the rest of the voting population. Which is what this sort of thing does. And that’s why National, and its ilk, are drowning out there. The right-wing lack of realization that the average voter translates this sort of thing into ‘smug rich bastards’ and then they vote Labour.

Look at your own stats, 11% earning over $60,000. That leaves another 89% earning less. And the democratic model is based on percentage of popular vote.

Just a thought.

$60,000 doesnt make you rich,

$30,000 doesnt make you poor, 66% of people earn less than $30,000

yes..kimble..telling evidence in support of the lifting of wage rates across the board..eh?

international comparisons show us falling further and further behind..

also any tax reform should be from the bottom up..once again using those same international standards the poorest carry the greatest burden..

and of course, the same standards show our top brackets to be lightly taxed..

so yes, there is need for tax reform..but in ways different from brashs’ model of borrowing to fund tax cuts.. wtf is he thinking?

By the Green’s tax cut logic (sic), if you and your neighbour’s house was burgled, and the police recovered the loot, the stolen property shouldn’t be returned to the original owners – it should be split ‘fairly’ amongst them! How is it that they remember to breathe?

I wonder what proportion of the people leaving permanently to Australia are in the top tax bracket.

Soon there will only be the low paid and beneficiaries left and Labour will be happy.

Those on $30,000 could be the new rich!
