I must say… I’ve held the view that the election outcome will be grisly either way… but now… the chance that Winston might be unseated has rejuvenated my enthusiasm.

He does have some fans- the National Front!
Apparantly they could not get their documentation ready so the NF are backing Winnie and some other party.
But you’d think those other racists might have been in the running too- the Maori Pary!

Bernie Ogilvy also personally blamed Don for the Prostitution Bill getting through (while at the Helensville Political Forum).

I personally think that any moral issues should be decided by a referendum, not by a conscience vote.

Blaming any ONE policitician who voted for the prostitution law reform bill certainly ain’t logical – blame them all, whatever their political colours.
If you want to hear logic really turned on its head, I’ve twice now heard Ron Mark in a public meeting blame United Future (!) for the passing of prostitution law reform and Civil Unions. This kind of twisted logic reminds my of Hitler’s propaganda minister Joseph Goebbles who said “If you tell a lie enough times, it becomes accepted as truth, and, the bigger the lie, the more likely it is to be accepted.”

I thought Don was a true blue conservative gentleman that had old fashion values of respect towards women (eg refusing to yell at Helen during the leaders debate). However if this is the case, can anyone explain to me why he “conscience” voted to legalise prostitution?

BTW, last night I had just finished off recovering a stolen car for the Police and drove past Manurewa town centre to find 5 child prostitutes on the street. Child prostitution is not really a laughing matter and it is a real shame that neither National or Labour takes it seriously.

I’m with you James Doherty, It should be the conscience of the Nation that decides moral issues not politicians. If Labour narrowly wins the election I wager that first up will be the anti spacking conscience bill and it will be passed by a collective Labour /Green conscience and a few silly
right wingers exercising their freedom of thought.Close thereafter will be the Hate speech law decided in a similar manner.

No. While Don may well be a gentleman, he is not a conservative, but a classical liberal. And while he alone is not solely responsible for the prostitution “reform” bill, he is, as is every member of Parliament that voted for it, personally responsible.

So Winston is not being desperate, hes pointing a valid criticism.
