Hope for ICANN!

Sometimes I get pessimistic over ICANN, especially when it does dumb things. But sometimes it does very good and ballsy things.

For several years it has been galling that they have not appointed anyone to the role of Manager of Public Participation. This was promised as a vital part of abolishing the directly elected seats on the ICANN Board.

Well now they have not only made an appointment, but have appointed Kieren McCarthy. Kieren writes for The Register and has his own blog. Kieren has been one of the journalists most critical of ICANN and their actions. I would have sworn he was almost persona non grata with certain senior people in ICANN.

So this is a very ballsy move on their part. Kieren should make a real difference towards improving and encourgaing public participation.
