Driving in Delhi

Well I’ve just checked into the hotel in Delhi, and the taxi experience from the airport was everything I had been led to expect.

There were no seatbelts at all in the backseat. Normally not a big issue, but with a driver who darts in and out of traffic (even at 1 am) was a missing security blanket.

I learnt two important road rules:

  1. Overtaking on the left is encouraged – especially if there isn’t enough room to do it safely
  2. You can ignore red lights so long as you honk your horn repeatedly as you go through them

Anyway sleep now.
